Most sites offer electric hookups, fire rings, and picnic tables, with many facilities providing shower houses and sanitary dump stations for RVs.
The camping season primarily runs from April through October, though some locations like West Branch State Park remain open year-round. Reservations are strongly recommended during summer months, especially for waterfront sites which tend to fill quickly. Primitive tent camping areas generally offer more privacy than the developed RV sections. Many campgrounds provide water and electric hookups, though full hookup availability varies by location. According to one visitor, "West Branch State Park was very welcome after our first two unlucky Ohio state park experiences. We had no trouble pulling in at 3 pm on a Sunday after Labor Day with no reservations and snagging a very nice spot."
Waterfront campsites rank as the most popular feature in the region, with numerous locations offering direct lake or reservoir access. West Branch State Park includes sites that back up to Kirwan Reservoir, while other campgrounds provide access to Berlin Lake, Guilford Lake, and Lake Milton. Facilities typically include clean restrooms, showers, and laundry options at the more developed locations. Several campgrounds include recreational amenities such as playgrounds, hiking trails, and boat rentals. A camper noted that West Branch has "nice playground with toy stocked sandpit, volleyball net, cheap laundry, dishwashing sinks, showers, and clean bathrooms." The region appeals primarily to local Ohio residents, with relatively few out-of-state visitors even during peak season.

"This beautiful small state park is only a half hour away from my house. It's close enough that we ho for a week several times a year and I can still drive to work daily. We love the sites lakeside."
"You are close together and no privacy like they have at other ohio state parks. I was able to snag a site on the water same day. Bathhouse is dated but clean and stocked."
"It's been raining and our step out is into mud. To be expected in the area during the winter. If it isn't snow covered, it's muddy. They have a little pizza shop and are right by Gilford Lake."
"This was another way for us to social distance as COVID-19 was still an issue. I also took photos of the camping bathrooms as each KOA does it a little differently."
$42 - $60 / night
"Nearby attractions are: The Hartville Kitchen (seriously worth it), Hartville hardware (again, worth it - believe me), Quail Hollow State Park, Football Hall of Fame, McKinley Museum, and Cuyahoga Valley"
"My 2 boys had so much fun at the lake and the playground and the bounce pad ect ect! The owners and all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and always around interacting with the guests."

"There is a local butcher shop right around the corner and they have an incredible selection to choose from . The Buckeye ebail connects to the footpath down to the reservoir ."

No reservations needed. There is always primitive space available. With a good bit of full hookups available aswell. Pool, sauna, hot tub, picnic tables, scheduled entertainment throughout the summer. Always a blast
Nice little place that’s open Friday was very pleasant during the day and most of the night. Reason for mark down is due to the trains that came through in the night and it must’ve been trash day in Harmony as we heard dumpster being banged around in the early hours of the morning. No problem parking all 45’ of or rig and trailer. Easy access to town and Pittsburgh. No WiFi and you have to call to book.
Pymatuning Lake Campground is a huge 700 site family oriented campground. Sites are large and clean and your not packed in. Bathrooms and showers are OK but they are clean. Best part of being here is the awesome fishing. Know for huge black crappie, walleye, and small and big mouth bass. This is the place to go fishing.
First time here. They told me Ohio State Parks were voted #1 in the US. Well there is a reason for that. Beautiful, clean, great spots, not a bad site in the entire park. Wood is dry and cheap right outside the park entrance. Bass fishing is top notch on the lake. I would definitely come back here again and again.
Like this place it is close to home easy to get in and out pulling a camper the activity were not opened yet but when they are I bet it is a great place
Site was pre-season opening (although no discount - almost $80/night), so there was construction during our stay. Rains resulting in site flooding - the gravel pad was fine, but had to wade into the mud & water to get to utilities for the trailer.
Dumpsters were overflowing and campground sent email to inform campers they would have to haul out their own trash.
Biggest disappointment was lack of EV charging options at this site. Didn't see the "No Charging" rule on their website when signing up, or we would have gone elsewhere.
Won't return.
Spend one night here on our way to Ohio. Owner was very friendly and allowed me to charge my Rivian onsite (I offered to pay for the extra power).
Pad was level and utilities were well located.
Check-in & check-out were seamless.
The site amenities are dated, but it is a pretty cool campground!
We would definitely return for longer!
We came off season. Bathrooms are updated and gorgeous. Beautiful lake setting

Fishing access at Mill Creek: At Mill Creek Camping, the Berlin Lake Wildlife Area provides numerous fishing spots along the reservoir shoreline. "A very nice and clean campground with many access point to the lake. Our camp site was in close proximity to the restroom facilities. We were fourtante that our spot was right beside the lake and we could keep the boat docked their during our stay," reports Renee G.
Hiking trails at Silver Springs: Silver Springs Campground features wooded walking paths surrounding the campground area. "There is also a wooded walking trail network on the east and North sides of the campground," notes Gary G. The trails connect to larger recreational areas in the Stow community park system.

Private showers at West Branch: West Branch State Park Campground features individual shower facilities that receive consistent praise. "Clean individual showers," notes Dan M. in his review. Another camper, Joe I., mentions "Bathrooms were clean separate showers verizon works well here."
Lakefront camping at Guilford Lake: Guilford Lake State Park Campground offers waterfront sites with direct lake access. "The camp sites on the water are very spacious, but the ones on the inside of the loop, not so much," reports Kevin C. "Low cost for staying ($18 for a waterside, spacious site for up to 8 people, 2 tents at no additional costs)," shares Katie, who called it "one of my favorite campgrounds visited this summer."
Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds in the region have uneven terrain requiring leveling equipment. At West Branch State Park, Andrea F. reports: "Our site was labeled slight slope. That was a joke. We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches. The jack was down as low as it would go and we were still off by 1.5 inches."
Variable bathroom facilities: Bathroom quality varies significantly between campgrounds. Silver Springs has limited facilities, with one reviewer noting "The bathrooms are portojons and there are no showers." In contrast, Countryside Campground gets high marks with "Showers were clean and spacious."
Weather impact on sites: Heavy rainfall can affect camping conditions at several locations. At Jellystone Park, Sally C. mentions "after a huge downpour of rain for a day, our beautiful premium site flooded." Sites near lakes and reservoirs may have standing water issues during wet periods.

Swimming options for children: Lake Milton-Berlin Lake KOA offers lake swimming with inflatable water features. "Kids absolutely loved swimming in the little lake and sliding/jumping off the inflatables," reports Kelly R., though she notes "my only complaint is that the sites are very close together."
Sewer hookup positioning: Check the location of hookups before setting up. At Lake Milton-Berlin Lake KOA, Julie F. found issues with utility placement: "Our spot was level but our sewer hookup was next to the neighbors campfire so we couldn't hook up and had to use the dump station before we left."
Water fill stations: Some campgrounds have poorly designed utility stations. An RVer at West Branch noted: "The water fill is on an incline so when our tank was 'full' pulling away from fill station it was really only 2/3 full. This was okay for a short weekend but not good planning."
Site selection for larger rigs: For RVs over 30 feet, research site dimensions carefully. At Jellystone Park, one reviewer with a large motorhome reported: "We have a 41 foot class A and we were centimeters from dragging our bumper crossing the road to park."
