Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area

    Bad experience

Stayed here on Saturday night of July 4th weekend. Arrived after hours without a reservation. No information on how to self register or which campsites were available even though some sites are first come first served. Found an open site, set up and went to bed. There were fireworks (prohibited) and the campsite next to us played loud music but it was before quiet hours so we didn’t mind. The loud music turned into a party with alcohol (prohibited) and the loud music continued way past quiet hours. No campground host or personnel did anything about the noise/party. At 12:30am we moved campsites because we couldn’t sleep. We saw sheriff patrolling the campground - don’t know why they didn’t quiet the offenders.

The campground is large with many sites so the probability of inconsiderate people is higher. I won’t be returning.

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Big, beautiful lake!

Great park! Sites are spacious and level. Very clean park. There are several full hook-up sites. Electric sites near the lake. We stayed at site #96. New Bathrooms are under construction. Campground is flat and great for bike riding. Nice playground for kids. Dog park nearby. Camp is near beach & marina. Also many shops and restaurants within a 10 minute drive. We will definitely be coming back to Mosquito Lake!

Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area

Busy, but not too bad :)

Stayed a night here near the end of June after a rainstorm. A few quick highlights:

    1. Because there are a ton of sites, you can expect one thing: variety. There are plenty of aluminum Airstream, Winnebago, fifth wheels, pull behind, and tents. You can expect to find a little bit of everything here.

    2. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, Mill Creek might not be for you. Most of the sites seem to be typically pretty packed. Generally, people respect quiet hours, but with sites so close to each other, noise is a factor.

    3. The surrounding area seems to be pretty spartan. There’s a grocery store about 10 minutes up the road, a bait shop about three minutes away, and a drive-through (with some light groceries and drinks) about two away. Nice enough folks in all three :) Super helpful and accommodating.

    4. Berlin lake seems to be the big draw. Plenty of boats, jet ski‘s, kayaks, and swimming opportunities. If that’s your thing, plan accordingly and you won’t be disappointed.

Overall, Mill Creek is a pretty solid site within driving distance of Akron / Canton. I’ll be back, with adjusted expectations.

Quick tip: My particular site was pretty muddy upon arrival. Granted, that was after a bit of rain. But it wouldn’t hurt to bring an extra pair of shoes ;-)

    Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

Well kept park with good spot spacing

Stayed here the first weekend of October.  Nice spots and many have good spacing from your neighbors.  Pets are welcome.  Facilities are older but well kept.  Bathhouse is heated with showers that have a fiberglass tub surround, not concrete.  Nice hiking trails that connect through the campground.  Hiking trail maps are not great but the trails are marked well. The Lake is a good walk and looks good for kayaking and fishing.  Brought our kayaks but it was a bit too cold.  Big wide spots are 11 and 16.  Nice hammock hangers on the non-electric spots.

Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.

Good location but expensive for what you get

Pros: closest camping to Cuyahoga National Park, safe, professional (labeled envelopes with information at check-in and wood delivery) Cons: bathrooms weren’t cleaned or restocked as frequently as necessary (overflowing trash cans, TP empty by 5 pm), shower curtains/showers had mildew, truly dirty bathroom floors, had to drive 1/4 mile to the one trash dumpster, unlevel sites

One more thing: there’s a significant raccoon and skunk problem along the section with water/electric back-in spots. We got to know our neighbors very well over two nights as we helped each other fend off multiple raids by entire families of raccoons and one very large, very bold skunk. We lost two camping chairs to the skunks because there was no way to fight them off once they moved into our shelter and, even without spraying, skunks tend to leave a scent behind on anything that’s fabric.

The price is okay in that it is the closest to the national park and the next closest campgrounds are the state park campgrounds (West Branch and Mosquito Lake), but the state park grounds are MUCH nicer and about $15 less per night. If you have the time to drive and can plan your trip months in advance to get reservations, West Branch is a better alternative.

    West Branch State Park Campground

    A ++

Always a great time at West Branch. The staff are very friendly and care a great deal about the quality of everyone's experience - they inspect and clean each site after the sites are vacated. The quiet hours are truly quiet, the bathrooms are very clean and fresh. Decided to rent a pontoon for the day - the boats were also very clean and well kept - they also have the option of an inner tube or jet skis if you want to rent those as well!

    Clendening Lake Marina & Campground

    Peaceful serenity

My family and I had never gone tent camping before together, since my husband and I were kids. I have chronic pain and was terrified to go due to my difficulties. This place was amazing!

    PROS:

The shower houses are individual big rooms to use that include a shower with a seat and toilet. They do also have handicap parking&camping spots right by the shower house, no smell even being 89 degrees.

They also have amazing prices for renting out a pontoon, it’s only a max 10 mph. I was able to comfortably fish for 4 hours on this. For the boats we were allowed to park down below right by the docks so I wouldn’t have to walk the hill.

When you book online it needs to be done 2 days out, from where we live (Columbus Ohio) the reception at the camp was very very hard to hear on the phone. It is easier to book online then see them at the office when you arrive, they close at 7 pm. Checkin is at 4 pm and checkout is 2pm for camp set up(you can set up sooner if no one is there)

We were lucky to get a walk up electric spot, although hilly it was beautiful! We were right by the private dock and the residents were very kind, some offered us worms or help with our fire. Even though we were by the public outhouse you could not smell anything until right by the outhouse.

You do need a special plug for the electric, we didn’t realize this and did not bring one. I was panicked at first since I needed a fan to get through the 89 degree weather in a tent but the front office has spares you can borrow! They are a lifesaver up there and so kind, if we could have tipped we would have.

We caught plenty of fish up there for all 3 of us, including my 1 st grader, all we used were worms and was surprised how much we caught.

All in all we were really happy and even convinced my parents to come up with us next year 😊

    CONS:

The drive up was very hilly and lots of buggies. Be careful sometimes the road disappeared and you don’t see the buggy until right there; the road speed is 55mph but we only went between 35-45.

There is no cell service up there so be prepared, we lost it for about 20 minutes before the camp site. We have sprint. Make sure to pack a old school map so you can get around, there is a family dollar store in town, about 4 mile drive, if you forgot anything.

Most neighbors you have our yearly members, this is great for peace but limits the spots they actually have open to rent out by the lake and have electric. We were hoping to get a better spot in the future but they only have a couple of non yearly spots available even a year out.

Guide to Sebring

Glamping in Sebring, Ohio offers camping options nestled in the rolling foothills of Northeast Ohio's Glaciated Allegheny Plateau. The region maintains a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons, with summer temperatures typically ranging from 70-85°F and high humidity levels. Most campgrounds in the area sit at elevations between 1,000-1,200 feet above sea level, creating varied terrain for both waterfront and wooded sites.

What to do

Lakeside activities year-round: West Branch State Park Campground provides water recreation access throughout all seasons. "There are many inlets to explore or fish. There is a boat launch at the campground. There is a small beach at the campground but a larger one on the other side of the lake," notes Alisa G. from West Branch State Park.

Hiking trail exploration: Mill Creek Camping at Berlin Lake Wildlife Area offers nature paths connecting to larger trail systems. "Very nice park with a lot of spacious spots. Scout camping, boat launch, primitive camping and more," according to John R. who visited the park.

Dog-friendly recreation: Mosquito Lake State Park features specialized pet amenities. "The dog park is amazing. There's so much to do here. Swimming, boating, fishing. We love it," shares Courtney C., who frequents the park despite noting that "no real bathrooms except at the front of the park. No place to wash dishes. Rough if you're tent camping."

Archery and specialized activities: Beyond standard camping pursuits, some parks offer unique recreational options. "Opportunities for disc golf, archery range, canoeing/kayaking/row boats, swimming (no lifeguard) and golf," writes Rebecca G. about Punderson State Park Campground.

What campers like

Waterfront access: Many visitors appreciate the ability to enjoy direct water access from their sites. "Our site was right beside the lake and we could keep the boat docked their during our stay. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table," explains Renee G. from Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area.

Clean facilities: Atwood Lake Park earns praise for its well-maintained bathrooms and shower facilities. "The shower house and bathrooms are large and clean. There is even a book exchange shelf at the shower house in case of rainy days," reports Alisa G., who also appreciates that "the park office loans games and sports equipment to campers."

Family activities: Lake Milton Berlin Lake KOA offers structured entertainment for children. "The campground had so many amenities its hard to name them all! My 2 boys had so much fun at the lake and the playground and the bounce pad ect ect!" shares Casey L., while another visitor notes "they had a lot of things to do and activities all weekend."

Private wooded sites: For those seeking seclusion during their glamping experience in Sebring, West Branch State Park provides natural separation. "West Branch has private, spacious, shady sites. We can launch our kayaks right from our campsite," writes one reviewer, highlighting the integration of privacy with water access.

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Prepare for uneven terrain at some campgrounds. "We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches. The jack was down as low as it would go and we were still off by 1.5 inches," warns Andrea F. about West Branch State Park Campground.

Seasonal water conditions: Lakes can experience algae growth during warmer months. "The algae was kind of thick, which made fishing impossible, so we stopped bringing the kayak," notes Rose S. about Mosquito Lake State Park.

Bathroom limitations: Facilities vary significantly between parks. "Bathrooms were clean separate showers verizon works well here," states Joe I. about West Branch, while Courtney C. mentions Mosquito Lake has "no real bathrooms except at the front of the park."

Site sizing variations: Countryside Campground offers different site types with varied dimensions. "The pull thru sites were a tad small but nice and long. Even with the sites close together it was quiet and peaceful," reports Kathryn P., who still found the experience positive overall.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly water activities: Countryside Campground provides structured activities for children of all ages. "Clean campground, lots to do! Dog friendly! Lake Accessible," notes Jessica R., while another reviewer mentions the "nice short walk takes you to Mogadore reservoir."

Playgrounds and recreation: West Branch State Park features multiple play areas. "There are playgrounds for the children. An ice cream social is held on Saturday evenings that my children always love to attend," shares a frequent visitor who brings family annually.

Weekend planning: Avoid disappointment by booking prime spots early, especially for luxury glamping in Sebring. "Make reservations! (6 months in advance). Waterside sites fill up quickly!" advises an experienced camper at Atwood Lake Park.

Nature engagement: Punderson State Park offers educational opportunities. "Opportunities for disc golf, archery range, canoeing/kayaking/row boats," reports one visitor, while another notes it's "great for families" with sites that are "pretty far apart and you feel secluded but, at the same time, the bathrooms are close by."

Tips from RVers

Hookup options: Atwood Lake Park Campground provides comprehensive RV services. "All new camping spots with full hookup. Grass is coming in nicely," notes Fred R. about the improved infrastructure at this location.

Site selection strategy: Research specific sites before booking at Punderson State Park. "The sites greatly very on size and flatness so make sure you look at the pictures of the site before you book some are basically the parking pad and a fire ring, some are big and flat some are on an incline," warns Joe I.

Power considerations: Check electrical service before setup. "Very few full hookups. Rest of the sites only have 15-20 amp service. The lots are not even close to level," cautions a reviewer at Punderson State Park, suggesting you bring "a lot of blocks to get close to level."

Weather preparedness: Be ready for rapid ground saturation after rain. "It's been raining and our step out is into mud. To be expected in the area during the winter. If it isn't snow covered, it's muddy," explains an off-season visitor to Salem-Lisbon Ohio KOA.
