Best Cabin Camping near Grand Island, NY

Cabin rentals near Grand Island provide convenient access to Niagara Falls while offering more shelter than traditional tent camping. HTR Niagara Campground features cabins with electricity and furnished interiors suitable for families seeking comfort after exploring nearby attractions. "The cabins were spacious and had a nice concrete patio, beautiful built-in fire ring, and great solid patio furniture," noted one visitor of the KOA Holiday location. Both campgrounds maintain clean bathroom facilities with hot showers, laundry services, and recreational amenities including swimming pools, fishing ponds, and play areas for children.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Four Mile Creek State Park Campground offers basic cabin accommodations approximately 15 minutes from Niagara Falls, while the Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday provides premium cabin options with more amenities. The KOA cabins typically include furniture, climate control, and some kitchen facilities. Most properties require advance reservations, especially during summer months from May through October when tourism peaks. Pets are permitted in select cabins at additional cost, with verification of rabies vaccination required at New York State park properties.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities vary significantly between properties - KOA cabins often include refrigerators and microwaves, while state park cabins may only provide outdoor fire rings with cooking grates. Basic provisions can be purchased at on-site camp stores at HTR Niagara Campground and Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA, with a grocery store located approximately 5 minutes from the Grand Island properties. Several cabins include outdoor picnic tables and fire pits, making meal preparation possible even in more rustic accommodations. Cooking utensils, dishware, and cleaning supplies are not typically provided.

Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

    Field Camping

It's not all bad! It took a while to find our site in the dark as site markers are small. The sites are decent size, the bathrooms are clean but spiders will hang out. Showers are hot. Sites are available with electric and there is an RV dump station if you have one. There are a lot of RVs at this campground, a large playground, and a field with soccer goals (no net). Niagara Falls is 15 or so miles away, and Buffalo NY is a short drive. The bathroom building has an outdoor sink with heated water, and this is also where the trash bins are.  Firewood is available in front of many nearby homes (a couple of miles, max,and $4-5 a bundle). The fire pits are either low or leaning, so we found a camp stove to be essential. It can get quite windy, we saw a tent buckle and our stakes were pulled up from the wind. It can get loud at night and it doesn't seem as if quiet hours are enforced. I'd stay again but only if a more private campground was unavailable.

    Evangola State Park Campground

    Great campground

We stayed here three nights to ride out a heat wave and really liked it. Sites are electric only, with a dump station available at the entrance and one in the campground loop. There are potable water spigots throughout the campground, where you awkwardly pull over to the side of the road and fill your tank. Sites are pretty much wide open, with zero separation between you and your neighbor. Most are out in direct sun but the ones along the edge have some tree cover and shade.

There are yurts here as well, and a playground, and a huge disc golf course. You can walk to the beach from the campground (dogs aren’t allowed on the beach). The nature center is right in the campground, by the basketball and tennis courts.

Showers were dirty and buggy, but they’re free and you can actually choose your own water temperature. NY State campgrounds require proof of rabies vaccinations for your dogs.

Good cell reception for Verizon, ATT wasn’t great but the cell booster helped. Trash bins, but no recycling. Beautiful sunset on the lake.

    Niagaras Lazy Lakes Camping Resort

    Clean & Friendly

We have camped here several times. Bathrooms are very clean along with the showers. They are cleaned on a daily basis. Store on site has just the bare amenities. Big clubhouse, 2 heated pools and a pond to fish (catch & release). Sites are big. Pet friendly. Staff are very friendly. 10-15 minutes from Niagara Falls and close to stores. It does have 2 on site laundry facilities but the dryers take a while. Enjoy going there.

    Darien Lakes State Park Campground

    Clean/Quiet Campground

9/25-9/29/22- The park was nearly empty, perhaps 6 or 8 other campers widely spread out. It was immaculate and the sites well spaced apart. All site have a picnic table and fire pit. Ours had both 30A and 50A power, was pretty level left/right but about 6” high in front before we leveled our 34’ fifth wheel. The park has drinking water faucets at a variety of places throughout, but site#15 has a faucet directly next to it, so we had water available too. Both AT&T 4G and Verizon 5G had 3 bars reception. The dump station was clean and convenient. It looked like a great place for kids that included at least one (probably more) playground.

    Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday

Great Location! Great Staff! Best in Area

We stayed in site A42 for 10 nights in mid May and it was a great experience. We are full-time, have a 40' Class A motorhome, flat tow a Jeep, have 2 kids, and have 2 dogs. The site itself was wonderful. It was a large pull thru, nice & level and had plenty of comfortable space between it and the neighboring sites. It had a nice concrete patio, beautiful built-in fire ring, and and great solid patio furniture. We didn't even have to bring out any of our outdoor rugs or furniture.

As for the location, it was ideal! It took maybe 15-20 minutes to get to the falls. There were great eating options in Niagara (15 minutes out) and even right outside of the campground at Adrian's Custard & Beef. There is a grocery on Grand Island as well that takes 5 minutes to get to. Wal-Mart and all other stores you could need are within 15-20 minutes.

The kids loved it too! There is a nice playground, fishing, bikes to rent, a jump pad, basketball goal, arcade, and a pool for summer. There is also a place next door for go karts, arcade, and mini golf.

We explored the area quite a bit and this is by far the best campground on the US side to see the falls. Would definitely recommend.

    HTR Niagara Campground

Covid update on one of my favorites

Once again, the Branches of Niagara comes through stunningly. Even in the midst of the lockdowns and augmented restrictions, TBON went above and beyond to be sure we had the safest and most enjoyable time we could during our stay.

Bathrooms, as usual, were pristine, with regular visits from the staff to disinfect and make sure campers were satisfied. This is a campground of several lakeside cabins and mostly RVs, so they were also seldom in use, making them even more accommodating for us during this time of distancing. They notified us in advance that they were still open and what was functional under the strict and ever changing NY requirements. Note: as of Summer 2020, masks were required to enter the store and check in areas, but not required elsewhere. Kids activities were augmented to allow for distancing and remain completely outdoors.

We got site 10, which was excellent both for proximity to everything, hookups, privacy, space and views. This particular site had ample, mowed and cleared room behind the spacious site as well where you can set up your hammocks and relax in the wooded shade. Directly in front of the site is a clearing which allows a view to the pool and pond-side of the campground. It was quiet and clean.

Stef is always friendly, and the camp store rents a number of items to add to the fun - paddle boats, kayaks, 4 seater bike surreys, peddle carts, and other fun things. Zip lines were both still open. Activities were updated to reflect safety during C-19.

Beautiful, peaceful, spacious campground with so many hidden gems. The lake is pretty and the campground’s access from the Grand Island side of Buffalo to Niagara Falls is very convenient, yet away from the loud commotion and traffic. We highly recommend!

    HTR Niagara Campground

    Beautiful campground

This is a fairly new campground on Grand Island near Niagara Falls. There a lot to do here, kayaking the pond, 2 zip lines, miniature golf and great pools. The bathroom/showers are spotless. The sites have a decent amount of room and many have a lot of shade. They have back in or pull through sites, cabins, tent sites and even yurts.

Guide to Grand Island

Cabin camping near Grand Island, New York offers accommodations within 20 miles of Niagara Falls. The region borders Lake Ontario with elevations averaging 600 feet above sea level and summer temperatures typically ranging from 65-80°F. Winter cabin rentals remain available at select locations, though most campgrounds operate seasonally from May through October with limited services during shoulder seasons.

What to do

Water activities on Lake Ontario: Four Mile Creek State Park Campground provides shoreline access with sunset viewing areas. "The sunset views over the lake each evening were spectacular. Our site actually had a gravel driveway and pad, as did several others, but I noticed that the majority of sites were grass only," notes a visitor who found the park convenient for day trips.

Amusement park access: For families seeking both outdoor camping and rides, Six Flags Darien Lake Campground offers direct theme park access. "This is a large campground. Walking distance to the theme park. Campground fees include admission to the theme park. The sites are very nice and well maintained," explains a camper who appreciated the value.

Outdoor recreation: HTR Niagara Campground features multiple recreational options beyond cabin stays. "There's a pretty large pond with a picnic island in the middle and a beach. Playground, mini golf, weekly free activities ranging from root beer float night to a traveling Birds of Prey show," shares a visitor who enjoyed the on-site amenities.

What campers like

Cabin variety and comfort: Branches of Niagara Campground (HTR) offers multiple cabin styles with varied amenities. "We didn't even want to leave it to go to the Falls! This was the most perfect family campground we've been to. The staff is very nice and they're always outside working and helping," reports a family who found the cabins well-maintained.

Pool facilities: Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday maintains upgraded aquatic facilities that guests appreciate after sightseeing. "Nice campground with many amenities. Typical KOA. You can schedule tours of the falls in the office. Tour bus stops at office," notes a visitor who appreciated the convenience of transportation arrangements.

Bathroom cleanliness: Four Mile Creek maintains well-serviced facilities that campers consistently mention. "Bath houses were clean and had laundry facilities. There is a camp store and firewood for sale," explains a reviewer who appreciated the basic necessities available on-site during their cabin stay.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Darien Lakes State Park Campground cabin rentals book quickly during peak season. "This park is a nicely kept, clean and quiet gem. I live local to the area and still find a time to setup the tent and enjoy some peace and quiet away from the noise of daily life," shares a local who recommends securing spots well in advance.

Seasonal considerations: Most cabin facilities close between November and April. Exceptions include Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday which operates select heated cabins through October 28, though with reduced services.

Supply needs: Cabin rentals typically provide beds without linens. HTR Niagara Campground store carries essentials but at premium prices. Nearby grocery stores in Grand Island provide more economical options for longer stays.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: HTR Niagara Campground schedules family-friendly programming throughout summer. "Nightly Hayrides around the grounds, and rentals for various boats available. Adult and kid zip lines. The bathrooms were seriously nicer than most home bathrooms," notes a family impressed with the facilities.

Budget considerations: Four Mile Creek State Park Campground offers more economical cabin options. "The park is located on a scenic byway with several state parks along its route and only about 20 minutes from Niagara Falls. The campground is very large and was very busy the weekend we were there," explains a visitor who found the location convenient despite fewer amenities.

Transportation options: When staying at Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday, visitors can book falls tours directly through the office. "Tour bus stops at office. Restaurants nearby. Note: if you are coming in from the southern side, DO NOT GO THROUGH DOWNTOWN BUFFALO like we did! PAY THE TOLLS!" advises a camper regarding navigation to attractions.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: At Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA, cabins and RV sites differ significantly in size and privacy. "Sites are easy access, rock bed for the sites, you are escorted to site. Easy access to local attractions, including Niagara Falls. Multiple things to do around the local community and on the park," notes an RVer who appreciated the escort service.

Utility considerations: Cabins at Niagara County Camping Resort offer more reliable power than RV hookups. "Our problem was that the low voltage power would trip our EMS. Power went to as low as 109 volts that I saw. We really wanted to love it there but with no sewer and bad power we had to leave early," warns an RVer who experienced infrastructure issues.

Seasonal site options: Several campgrounds offer both short-term cabin rentals and seasonal options for those making extended stays. For families transitioning between housing, these longer-term arrangements provide stability with recreational amenities.
