Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

    Field Camping

It's not all bad! It took a while to find our site in the dark as site markers are small. The sites are decent size, the bathrooms are clean but spiders will hang out. Showers are hot. Sites are available with electric and there is an RV dump station if you have one. There are a lot of RVs at this campground, a large playground, and a field with soccer goals (no net). Niagara Falls is 15 or so miles away, and Buffalo NY is a short drive. The bathroom building has an outdoor sink with heated water, and this is also where the trash bins are.  Firewood is available in front of many nearby homes (a couple of miles, max,and $4-5 a bundle). The fire pits are either low or leaning, so we found a camp stove to be essential. It can get quite windy, we saw a tent buckle and our stakes were pulled up from the wind. It can get loud at night and it doesn't seem as if quiet hours are enforced. I'd stay again but only if a more private campground was unavailable.

    Evangola State Park Campground

    Great campground

We stayed here three nights to ride out a heat wave and really liked it. Sites are electric only, with a dump station available at the entrance and one in the campground loop. There are potable water spigots throughout the campground, where you awkwardly pull over to the side of the road and fill your tank. Sites are pretty much wide open, with zero separation between you and your neighbor. Most are out in direct sun but the ones along the edge have some tree cover and shade.

There are yurts here as well, and a playground, and a huge disc golf course. You can walk to the beach from the campground (dogs aren’t allowed on the beach). The nature center is right in the campground, by the basketball and tennis courts.

Showers were dirty and buggy, but they’re free and you can actually choose your own water temperature. NY State campgrounds require proof of rabies vaccinations for your dogs.

Good cell reception for Verizon, ATT wasn’t great but the cell booster helped. Trash bins, but no recycling. Beautiful sunset on the lake.

    Niagaras Lazy Lakes Camping Resort

    Clean & Friendly

We have camped here several times. Bathrooms are very clean along with the showers. They are cleaned on a daily basis. Store on site has just the bare amenities. Big clubhouse, 2 heated pools and a pond to fish (catch & release). Sites are big. Pet friendly. Staff are very friendly. 10-15 minutes from Niagara Falls and close to stores. It does have 2 on site laundry facilities but the dryers take a while. Enjoy going there.

    Darien Lakes State Park Campground

    Clean/Quiet Campground

9/25-9/29/22- The park was nearly empty, perhaps 6 or 8 other campers widely spread out. It was immaculate and the sites well spaced apart. All site have a picnic table and fire pit. Ours had both 30A and 50A power, was pretty level left/right but about 6” high in front before we leveled our 34’ fifth wheel. The park has drinking water faucets at a variety of places throughout, but site#15 has a faucet directly next to it, so we had water available too. Both AT&T 4G and Verizon 5G had 3 bars reception. The dump station was clean and convenient. It looked like a great place for kids that included at least one (probably more) playground.

    Golden Hill State Park Campground

    Quiet Campground Over Lake Ontario

We camped at Golden Hill over the weekend of July 24-26, 2020. Due to COVID, advance reservations are required to book a spot at any NY state campground. We had site 47 in loop C, which was across the road from the lake view sites. I recommend sites 40-45 for lake-front views. Loops A and B were more crowded and more suitable to RV trailers and rigs (we were camping in a pop-up camper). Site 47 was large and had a few trees. The campfire ring was right against the pad, which made it difficult to position our pop-up so that it was away from the fire ring.

Things to consider: There are 2 bathrooms in the campground, one near the A-B loops and one near the entrance. It was quite a hike in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom from our site. Some sites in the A-B loops are right next to each other, and we preferred the space for the sites in the C loop.

Wonderful things: The views are spectacular, particularly at sunset. The campground was quiet at night. The Niagara Wine trail is close to this campground, and Niagara Falls is about a 50 minute drive away. We hiked Devil's Hole and Whirlpool State Parks on this camping trip. The showers in the bathrooms were phenomenal - very clean with hot water and a private dressing area next to the shower. Showers were ADA compliant and had shower seats.

    Evangola State Park Campground

Some Sites Have a View of Lake Erie

    Unfortunately, my site did not.

However, my site wasn't crowded and the electricity was reliable. This campground has three loops. One has 30 amp power, one has 50 amp power (with a 30 amp outlet on the same pedestal) and the third loop is for tent camping. There are several places to get water in the camp, so be sure to fill up your tanks before you park. There is a dump station. None of the sites are full hook up.

Each site has a picnic table and a grill.

There are two bath houses. The newer one - between loops one and three - also has laundry facilities.

Your payment for your campsite entitles you to admission to the beach, which is a hike or a drive away.

    HTR Niagara Campground

Very Nice and Big Rig Friendly

We stayed here for five days and had a blast. Gravel roads and pads but level and no issues with mud (it rained). Several laundry rooms, bathrooms, cabins, playground, pond to fish in, paddle boat and bike rentals.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Four Mile Creek State Park Campground offers shoreline fishing with views of Lake Ontario where campers can see the Toronto skyline on clear days. According to one visitor, "About 30 minutes from Niagara Falls. Staff inside office were very friendly-gave many trail suggestions and good tips for navigating the city. Comes with state park parking pass to park free and access to town shuttle."

Swimming options: Branches of Niagara Campground features multiple swimming areas including salt water pools. A camper noted, "Lots of activities at this park, staff is friendly, clean pools, facilities, zip line, boat rentals, spacious sites, and minutes from the falls!"

Hiking trails: Golden Hill State Park provides lakeside trails and a lighthouse to explore. One reviewer mentioned, "The best part of Golden Hill is being right on the shore of Lake Ontario. The Lakeside sites are the best bet as you get an unobstructed view of the incredible sunrise and sunset over the lake."

Disc golf course: Darien Lakes State Park has a relatively new disc golf course perfect for casual players. A camper shared, "This park is a nicely kept, clean and quiet gem. I live local to the area and still find a time to setup the tent and enjoy some peace and quiet away from the noise of daily life. There are miles of hiking trails, nice 'lakes' to fish and swim in. There is a fairly new Frisbee golf course as well."

What campers like

Clean facilities: HTR Niagara Campground receives consistent praise for maintenance standards. One visitor commented, "This was the most perfect family campground we've been to. The staff is very nice and they're always outside working and helping. The back sites were perfect and decent sized. They have every amenity you could need and the grounds are pristine."

Lake views: Daisy Barn Campground offers views of Lake Ontario with Toronto visible across the water. A camper mentioned, "This campground is clearly well-maintained. Everything was tidy and clean, from our campsite, laundry room, showers, bathroom, camp store, and walking paths. My only complaint is that all campsites do NOT have a view of Lake Ontario. However, it's just a short walk to a nice grassy area to overlook it."

Proximity to attractions: Four Mile Creek State Park Campground provides access to Niagara Falls with additional benefits. A reviewer shared, "We stayed here when seeing the falls easy 18 min drive to the falls. One perk we were not aware of was free parking at one of the three New Yark park parking lots with our campground pass. Showers clean and warm. Staff helpful and friendly."

Cabin options: Multiple campgrounds in the area offer various cabin styles, from rustic to deluxe. The cabin accommodations at Niagara County Camping Resort are situated near recreational areas with one visitor noting, "Nice secluded place. Quiet surroundings with lots of stuff for kids to do. Swimming, fishing, putt putt, petting zoo. Camp sites are clean and large."

What you should know

Campground layout: Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground has many seasonal sites, which changes the atmosphere. One visitor explained, "Place is filled with campers which don't move all summer. There are decks, low fences, and stuff around their campers. Clearly they visit annually for the season."

Seasonal considerations: Most cabin rentals are available from May through October. Golden Hill State Park has a specific operating season, as one camper noted, "We camped at Golden Hill over the weekend of July 24-26, 2020. Due to COVID, advance reservations are required to book a spot at any NY state campground."

Booking requirements: Most cabins require advance reservations, especially during summer months. Some properties may have minimum stay requirements of 2-3 nights during peak season.

Utility variations: Electricity can vary between campgrounds. One visitor at Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground reported, "We had a lake front spot but our electricity didn't work. When I called they said someone would come check it 'later'. We didn't have power for our short visit."

Tips for camping with families

Look for kid-friendly amenities: Niagara County Camping Resort offers numerous activities for children. A visitor shared, "Quiet surroundings with lots of stuff for kids to do. Swimming, fishing, putt putt, petting zoo. Camp sites are clean and large."

Choose campgrounds with organized activities: Some locations offer scheduled events for families. At Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground, a visitor mentioned, "Plenty of activities around the campground. Golf cart rentals available. Clean restrooms near the store."

Consider cabin location: Select cabins positioned near bathhouses when staying with children. Four Mile Creek State Park offers different camping loops with varying environments, as one camper explained, "Camping with kids and enjoy interacting with other camping families? Then the 100 loop with large playground (lots of sites with electric hookups, though not a lot of shade) is for you!"

Pack for pool time: Bring swimming gear as multiple campgrounds have pools. At HTR Niagara Campground, "Our favorites were the 3 pools and brand new playground. We have little kids and they were just as entertained as all the big kids."

Tips from RVers

Site selection matters: At Niagara Falls North / Lewiston KOA, pay attention to site size. One RVer mentioned, "The campground is very small. Some sites are a little bigger than others but most are quite small."

Check power supplies: Some campgrounds have voltage issues. At Niagara County Camping Resort, one RVer reported, "Our problem was that the low voltage power would trip our EMS. Power went to as low as 109 volts that I saw."

Maneuvering considerations: Some campgrounds have limited space for large rigs. A visitor at Niagara Falls North / Lewiston KOA observed, "The campground is very small. It makes for challenging entry and exit for Class A, especially if towing."

Consider surface type: Different campgrounds offer various pad surfaces. At Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday, a camper noted, "Simple, cute, scenic campground. Gravel sites. Easy pull through sites. Pool near camp store. Friendly staff."
