Palmers Pond State Forest offers free dispersed camping with pet-friendly sites on grassy terrain under pine trees. Located near West Almond, this primitive camping area features fire pits and picnic tables with no hookups or facilities. Campers report abundant flat areas for tent setup and parking near a scenic pond where beaver activity can be observed throughout the day. Letchworth State Park Campground also welcomes pets at its established campsites with more amenities including electric hookups, showers, and toilet facilities. The area provides multiple accommodation options ranging from basic tent camping to cabins that accept dogs. Sites are well-maintained with ample space between neighbors, creating a quiet camping environment even during busy weekends.
Access to Palmers Pond requires careful navigation, as some roads are blocked. Visitors should approach from the north entrance via West Almond Road rather than following Palmers Pond Road, which ends in a dead end. The unpaved gravel roads are passable with standard vehicles, though high clearance is beneficial for accessing more remote sites. Multiple camping spots are available both along the road and surrounding the pond, offering choices between waterfront or wooded settings. Wildlife observation opportunities abound, with quiet mornings being particularly spectacular for viewing pond activity. During dry seasons, water levels in the pond may be reduced. Dogs must be kept on leash in most campgrounds to minimize wildlife disturbance and maintain the peaceful atmosphere that makes these locations popular with pet owners seeking natural surroundings.

"I was able to set up next to the water with no problem. Definitely will be back."
"The cabins next to us were very loud so that was distracting. The cabins looked very nice though.
The shower house was clean and nice but did cost money, which I think is not appropriate."
"My only complaint would be that the pet rules are not enforced. I would see five dogs from my site and only one was on a leash all the time. My dog. One dog was free to roam wherever it wanted."
"The site next to us was built up so that there was a slight hill that contained their sewer pipe. Had they had sewer issues, I'm sure their waste would have run directly into our site. "
"There was outer edges of a tropical storm when we went so lots of rain! The bathrooms are clean - quarter showers were nice and hot!"
"It was right next to the river and actually very nice! They ever had karaoke at night, which was fun and different! Great place !!"
"Jones pond has 6 campsites located along a Jeep road, out of the boat launch parking lot."
"We stayed for two day and hike the trails. The gorge trail has all the waterfalls and you can walk right next to them."
"The campground side doesn't open until around 11 we were told, and we reached at 8am, so we started at the North (day-use) side, parked there, hiked, ate, and eventually drove back to the other side, checked"

Letchworth State Park is known as the Grand Canyon of the East and is located in Mt. Morris New York. My husband and I visited regularly when we lived near Rochester, NY. The park is stunning and is fit for camping whether you’re in a tent, RV or choosing to rent a gorgeous cabin. There are many walking and hiking trails for adventurers of all types. Make sure you bring your camera as the views are all photo worthy. The camping price is right due to the fact that the park is run by the state. A great place to stay especially in the Summer!!
We have camped at Letchworth State Park for nearly 30 years. Recent updates to playground equipment and restroom/shower facilities have brought the amenities into the 21st century. The price is reasonable, and the park is a gem. A couple cons to consider: pets only allowed in three loops. Quite often, pet loop reservations are maxed quickly. There is a two dog limit, which excludes many campers. If you are used to private campgrounds, realize that services are limited here. Mediocre camp store and laundry; both get the job done, but leave a lot to be desired.
great New York state park. stayed here for 2 nights and I will be back. the park is so big I only got to do some of the hiking. very nice.
Jake from the Dyrt here! Quiet Valley is a glamping campground with canvas tents in a slowed down country setting in New York. Check them out and leave a review about your stay on the Dyrt!
Called up on Friday afternoon of Labor Day weekend and they accommodated us for two nights. John and his staff were friendly and welcoming. Very clean campground with mostly seasonal sites. Several overnight sites with electric and water. These sites were mostly gravel and cut into a bank so that there is some separation. Surrounded by trees but grounds are well kept. Fully fenced dog park that was great for our pup. A couple of ponds for kids to fish and what looks like a nice pool. Quiet hours observed. On Saturday night there was a band in an outdoor stage that was great.
Close enough to Ellicottville to enjoy the shops, brewery and restaurants there.
Only thing I would mention is the dump station is simply just a pipe off one of the driveways with a water hose. Not a problem and it works, just not typical of dump stations.
Not technically in the Finger Lakes but still one of the most beautiful parts of Western New York State. Splurge and eat at the Glen Iris Inn! Great for cycling and hiking but no swimming. I love taking visitors here in all seasons but in autumn it is exceptional. I’ve stayed in a few tent sites and all are wooded and pretty private with your standard basic amenities. This is a popular park so make reservations.
I went to college right near Letchworth State Park so I spent many wonderful weekends there! There is a reason why they call it the Grand Canyon of the East. Not only can you check out the beautiful waterfalls, but there are also many awesome trails, rivers, and caves to check out. When I would camp, we would rent a camp site with our tent but, you could camp with your RV or even rent a cabin. Ive gone every month of the year, but these pictures were from my birthday in January. Letchworth is one of the best parks in New York state and a definite must see!
My son and I have a new favorite campground. We absolutely fell in love with this park. I find it odd that even though I grew up only an hour away, we never camped there. Big mistake! There are many trails to hike on and beautiful views of the gorge and river. You have to drive to many of the places but it's worth it. There are many souvenir and snack stands as well as a pool (again, you have to drive to them). The camp store is small but well stocked with a laundry attached. Some loops allow pets and others don't. If you want to bring your pet, please check to make sure you reserve a pet-friendly loop. Unfortunately for us, it rained the entire time we were there so we never got to walk the trails or use the pool. Keep an eye out for other activities. There are balloon rides, craft shows, etc. that happen throughout the summer. With so much to do in the park, you don't really need to leave but nearby is the Arcade and Attica Railroad. It's a nice little ride through the countryside. There is also a small dam that you can visit (we missed out this last time). I highly recommend visiting.
