    Letchworth State Park Campground

A little gem with a lot to do

Cabin campers here at letchworth for the past two years. We stumbled on cabin camping at letchworth due to weekends being booked for almost the entire summer for tent spots. the cabins are spacious, with bunk beds, a stove, fridge, and a fire place. i thought they might be close together, yet they were all pretty private, with a fire ring and picnic table. There was a beautiful updated playground, and clean bathrooms. Last summer they had just opened the new nature center with guided hikes, and activities all summer long.

Great for the falls, swimming, hiking, white water rafting, kayaking and so much more!

    Willow Bay Recreation Area

    Quiet nights, Easy days

Willow bay campground is run by the National Forest Service. The reservable lots are wide and numerous for a out of the way sight. The campground services tent sites, RV sites as well as small cabins with electricity. There is a central bathhouse near the oak loop. Closer to the boat ramp sites- most of which are tent ready, there are vault toilets. These sites are less than a mile from the North Country Trail. Other, smaller trails are here as well. The New York State lone is less than five miles away- providing access to Allegheny State Park. The closest town of note is Bradford, which is about 18 miles away. It has all you need to get your necessities. The cabins were small- one twin bed and a set of single bunks. You need to bring your own sheets. There is a small heater imbedded in the wall. It keeps things from getting too cold, as it was when I was there. Fire ring and picnic table provided. Charcoal grill as well. The only problem I had was with the wildlife. A mouse or something kep crawling in the space between the roof and ceiling. There is no cel service here, and you shouldn’t need it either. Places to visit are too numerous to mention, but I will give a shout out to the zippo case museum, absolutely a must.

    Clean, private, swimming!

Stayed here multiple times. Cabin is clean, large firepit, huge patio, great swimming pond with a slide. Cabin included many kitchen items as well as there being a full size freezer/fridge, tables and chairs on the patio. Pet Friendly but no fenced area.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Cute cabins and amazing views

We stayed in a cute cabin with running water, a stove, and a heater for cold nights! Outside we had a picnic table and a campfire pit. The park itself has amazing hiking with awesome views. Highly recommend!

Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill

    Wonderful!

Great secluded tent camping (recomend numbers 7 and 8), cabins are new and ample beds and space. Camper camping is close to everything, but less privacy. Numerous pavilions that are wonderful for parties or weddings. Stunning overlook that is breathtaking (also great for weddings). Hiking, bike trails, fishing pond, playground, open fields for sports, much more!!! Great for photo shoots, weekend stress getaways etc. I live close by and visit a few times a month.

Quaker Area — Allegany State Park State Park

    Quaker Area- Buffalo Cabin #8

We head out to Allegany State Park every year in late fall. The cabins are perfect for cooler temperatures and cozying up beside the wood stove. The table and chairs provided inside the cabin are perfect for eating on and prepping food.

The buffalo trail is perfect for a weekend getaway, with Cabin 8 far in the corner, providing lots of space between nearby cabins. It is also beside the river and provides a wonderful sound to fall asleep to.

Shower facilities are just down the road and were very clean! The bathroom facilities on the buffalo cabin loop are also equally clean and warm in the colder temperatures!

    Conesus Lake Campground

Camping with amenities, close to fun

This is your typical Mom and Pop family campground, there are rules to follow but they do not hinder on your experience. They have a well stocked camp store, boat rentals, golf cart rentals, an indoor heated pool, jump pad, playgrounds, a hiking trail and frisbee golf. The bottom portion of the campground has mostly seasonal campers and cabins. You do have to go up a pretty steep hill to get to the 'transient' camping section, but there are many pull through, level, full hook up sites to choose from. ( We had site 250 and really liked it) The bathrooms were toilet/shower combos and were very clean. Attractions close by is a drive-in with 4 different screens, many places to eat, parks ( Vitale Park was really nice), a fun center with mini golf, go carts, batting cages, laser tag and arcade. We also experienced the local flea market in Avon, NY. It's HUGE!

    Darien Lakes State Park Campground

    Clean/Quiet Campground

9/25-9/29/22- The park was nearly empty, perhaps 6 or 8 other campers widely spread out. It was immaculate and the sites well spaced apart. All site have a picnic table and fire pit. Ours had both 30A and 50A power, was pretty level left/right but about 6” high in front before we leveled our 34’ fifth wheel. The park has drinking water faucets at a variety of places throughout, but site#15 has a faucet directly next to it, so we had water available too. Both AT&T 4G and Verizon 5G had 3 bars reception. The dump station was clean and convenient. It looked like a great place for kids that included at least one (probably more) playground.

Guide to Belfast

Cabins near Belfast, New York provide access to the Genesee Valley region, with elevations ranging from 1,200 to 2,000 feet across rolling hills and stream-cut valleys. The area experiences distinct seasons with summer temperatures averaging 70-85°F during peak cabin rental months. Winter snow accumulation can reach 60+ inches annually, making most cabin facilities seasonal operations.

What to do

Gorge hiking trails: Stony Brook State Park Campground offers multiple waterfall-viewing trails suitable for various skill levels. "The gorge trail is very busy but you still can enjoy the beautiful waterfalls along with the gorge formation. We also did the east trail that goes up to the top of the gorge and is also a little further into the woods. It was much quieter up there," notes one visitor.

Creek exploration: At Sugar Creek Glen Campground, the waterways provide natural recreation. "Tent sites along a confluence of creeks; ankle deep clear water. Amazing miles of upstream hiking, water holes, rope swings, etc. Perfect for little kids and adults," writes one camper.

Swimming opportunities: Beyond traditional pools, several campgrounds feature natural swimming areas. "My favorite part about this park has to be their natural pool. It's beautiful and so refreshing," comments a visitor to Stony Brook State Park Campground.

Special events: Many campgrounds host themed weekends throughout the summer season. "We went during their Christmas in July weekend. They had a good list of activities from cookie decorating to visits with Santa," explains a family that stayed at Woodstream Campsite.

What campers like

Natural water features: Multiple campgrounds incorporate streams and ponds as central amenities. "We had the best time at this campground. Walked the Creek, played in the waterfall and talked with friendly neighbors," reports a visitor to Sugar Creek Glen Campground.

Wildlife viewing: The forested settings around cabins create habitat for various species. "A great park for bird watching. Particularly if you like Blue Jays. I couldn't get over how many there were!" shares a day visitor to Stony Brook.

Cabin quality: Evergreen Trails Campground receives specific praise for its accommodations. "One of my favorite places to camp. Very quiet. Owners are super nice. Everything is extremely clean. Cabins are amazing," reports one repeat visitor.

Privacy between sites: Despite being in established campgrounds, many cabins offer reasonable seclusion. "The scenery was absolute beautiful but we were given the last open tent spot available. This site was beautiful. You crossed a small foot bridge to get to it," notes a camper at Evergreen Trails.

What you should know

Weather impacts: Flash flooding can affect creeks and access roads to certain campgrounds. "Unfortunately it stormed the night we were there and the river flooded over the road, so it was tough getting the truck out to leave the next day," reports a visitor to Sugar Creek Glen.

Site selection matters: Some cabin areas have significant differences between units. "Our particular spot, Site L20 was narrow and there was zero tree coverage over our camper due to the trees being dead," explains a camper at Houghton/Letchworth KOA.

Seasonal pest issues: Plan accordingly for insect activity. "We were unable to eat outside due to all of the Gypsy Moths falling out of the trees and pooping on our heads and on the table, chairs, etc," shares a KOA visitor.

Shower facilities: Most campgrounds with cabins near Belfast feature central bathhouses with varying payment systems. "The bathrooms are outdated, but clean. Some of the showers cost a quarter and some don't, which was peculiar," notes a Woodstream Campsite visitor.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly water access: Retreat at Fern Hill provides safe water recreation options. "Cabin is clean, large firepit, huge patio, great swimming pond with a slide," reports a regular visitor.

Multiple playground options: Several campgrounds feature varied play equipment. "There is a beautiful playground and Gaga ball pit," writes a visitor to Sugar Creek Glen, while Woodstream offers "playground, swimming pond, camp store, fishing trout stream throughout the campground, miniature golf, game room, basketball court."

Tent-cabin combinations: Some sites allow mixed camping arrangements for larger families. "If you are looking for a deep woods experience... this is it! We were in a primitive spot and we usually don't do that. This site was beautiful. You crossed a small foot bridge to get to it," notes a visitor at Evergreen Trails.

On-site activities: Jellystone Park of Western New York offers extensive structured programming. "Put put was free. So many things to do with the kids. Heated pools. Beach was clean," shares one family visitor.

Tips from RVers

Site access challenges: Not all cabin areas accommodate larger vehicles. "VERY tight to maneuver in and park if your camper is over 30 feet," cautions a visitor to Woodstream Campsite.

Electrical considerations: Power supply can be inconsistent at some locations. "Be prepared for very low power voltage drops with nothing running in your site," advises an RV owner at Woodstream.

Creek crossings: Some campground layouts require navigating water features. "Just be advised that if you plan to camp with just a tent you will have to cross a creek to do it, so make sure to have an elevated, AWD/4x4 car or truck to help with the process," notes a Sugar Creek Glen visitor.
