    Cape Henlopen State Park Campground

    Great Escape

The attendant was very friendly and helpful when we arrived without making a reservation first and was able to get us in for a single night stay despite the "no vacancy" for the last 3 weeks straight. He was very thorough about the best showers (with air conditioning), the nature center with trails, bikes to loan, and other things to do. The campsite was meant for an RV but it still worked for our car and tent. The site was partially shaded, had a fire ring and picnic table, electric and water spigot. Bathrooms and showers nearby but we used the shower house with private rooms and air conditioning. Small camp store on site that has wood and ice and a few other things. Laundry facility with coin operated washer and dryers as well as utility sink for dish washing. You can bike or take a long walk to the beach or drive which is what we did. Beautiful beach with bath house and concessions but not as busy as Rehoboth beach a few miles down the road. We also were able to see a pod of dolphins about 100ft from shore when we went swimming! Despite the campground being full and sites very close together the evening was still pleasant and quiet!

    Cape Henlopen State Park Campground

Plan early, one of the best places to camp near the beach!

Cape Henlopen camp sites fill up so quickly, and for good reason! After missing out on reservations year after year, this year, we booked a weekend tent site for July back in January and immediately realized the spark of this place. The campground is large with various loops full of RV, popup, and tent sites. There is also a section of walk-in tent sites, each with 1 parking spot semi close by. (Bring a wagon if you stay at one of these). We stayed in site T021 (walk-in site) and had plenty of privacy and space to set up our screen room, tent, and firepit. All camp sites come with the standard picnic table, as well as fire pit and grill grate. There is a camp store in the center of the campground where you can purchase firewood, coffee, batteries, ice or other camping needs.  There are several bath houses strategically placed throughout the campground so that you can easily find one a few minute walk away no matter where you stay. Bath houses were clean, updated, well maintained and air conditioned. There are both public showers that are stall-like within some of the bath houses, as well as large private shower + bathroom stalls (perfect if you have young kids). I didn't find the bugs to be any worse than typical summer camping spots (I heard they maybe spray for bugs on the sites?) but definitely bring your spray and citronella candles. It also POURED from a small tropical storm the morning we arrived yet our site and the full campground was well and dry by the time we set up in the afternoon  - looked like most of the sites were set up on hills, which is great to avoid pooling in inclement weather.  Pets are allowed and there are water spigots near every site. Although our site (T021) was spacious and private, my brother's family was staying on T011 and there were about 4-5 sites all in an open space back to back with one another near his. The neighbors were friendly so no complaints but the lack of privacy there is worth nothing in case you wanted to feel more 'remote'. The sites are mostly tree lined and semi shaded by pines. The campground gets extremely dark at night and the stars are so beautiful from the lack of light pollution! The campground is in a large state park, full of many bike trails, hiking spots, historical WWII sites, fishing pier, and of course the beach. There is a separate entrance for campers so make sure to follow that when you drive in. The beach *is* walkable (maybe a mile away) but much easier /quicker to drive, and there is plenty of parking by the beach. The beach can get crowded but is clean and has lifeguards.  The best part is on a quiet night, if you listen really closely, you can hear the waves crashing in the distance. Due to the nature vibe, proximity to beach, and modern  bathhouses, I think this campground has become our new favorite one!

    Cape Henlopen State Park Campground

    Great state park

This campground was renovated about two years ago . It is very clean . As a state park we were surprised at all it offers. Laundry , full campstore , air conditioned and clean showers/bathrooms.. Just about all sites are partially shaded to shaded. The park used to be an old army barracks and they still have a lot of old guns and buildings you can walk thru , including the watchtowers. The park beach is a three minute drive and very clean . This campground is a great summer destination.

    Sun Outdoors Cape May

    Close to the beach

We were very pleased with the size of our site.  The campground was quiet and the bathhouses were clean.  We happened to be there when it was 100 degrees so we definitely noticed that the bathhouses weren't air conditioned.  We were really happy we didn't have to shower in them since they were so hot.  The pool was warm but it could have been cleaner.  The lake was so warm that it made us wonder what kind of bacteria was growing in it.  Overall we were pleased with our stay and would return again.

    Sun Outdoors Rehoboth Bay

    Peaceful and fun

Have stayed here multiple times, most recently October 2018. They have a beautiful heated pool, waterfront tiki bar, on site store and restaurant, kayak and golf cart rental and they seem to be adding more every year! They have different types of sites, some gravel, some paved and some with concrete patios and nice furniture included. They also offer cabins and safari tents as options if you don't have an RV. Each site has a firepit and there are multiple clean bath houses throughout, each with laundry. There's a beach on site(soundfront) and a dog beach area as well. We loved the ability to stay in a peaceful campground with beautiful views and still be able to drive to the boardwalk and ocean beaches. Will be back again this year!!

    Ocean View Resort Campground

    ★★★★ Shakedown Trip

We went to Ocean View Resort in New Jersey to kick off the 2022 season in our new Fleetwood Discovery LXE. And we’re glad we did!

This campground is located less than two miles from Exit 17 off the Garden State Parkway. It’s located a short drive from popular shore towns including Avalon, Sea Isle City, Cape May, and Ocean City. We found the park easy to access and navigate.

The check-in process was easy and the front office staff was friendly. I appreciate being expected when stepping up to the front desk.

The most amazing part of our experience was our‘Deluxe 50 Amp Pull Thru’ site# E19. It was HUUUUUUGGGGGGE! See my photos. Our site had full hookups including 50-amp electricity, good water pressure, easily-accessed sewer connection, cable TV with limited channels(some were not clear), and Wi-Fi which was hopelessly slow. Tall trees provided some shade and privacy. The site was covered in gravel and stone, which is great because it didn’t get muddy after the rainstorm we experienced one night. I highly recommend sites E15-E27(E14 slopes too much for my preference). Most sites are seasonal trailers or-park models, but they appeared generally clean and maintained.

The campground, our site, and facilities we visited were clean and well-maintained. Not all facilities were open as the full season begins in a few weeks. The campground store carries a variety of food and drinks, camping and RV supplies, clothing, pool toys, and souvenirs. This came in handy when I needed to replace a damaged sewer hose.

It’s a good sign when it’s difficult to think of negative comments. If I’m being nit-picky, I’d share that the trash and recycling dumpsters were overflowing and unsightly. This could be because it was opening weekend. The firewood they sold was nice and dry, but they don’t deliver it to the sites. This meant I could only purchase what I could carry for my walk back to my site.(I believe offering delivery would be a major convenience for campers and result in increased sales for the campground.)

This was their opening weekend for the 2022 season. While we expected inconveniences or less-than-ideal conditions, we found the place was prepared for the new season and we had no issues. The lake, swimming pool, and cafe hadn’t opened yet, but we’ll be sure to visit those amenities during our next visit later this summer.

THINGS I LIKED: Site was huge and clean with well-maintained full hookups, gravel, and shade trees. Campground is clean and maintained. Store was well-stocked

THINGS I’D CHANGE: No delivery for firewood Slow Wi-Fi Limited working cable TV channels

    Parvin State Park Campground

Great for families with tree covered lake access, plus playground

My wife and I chose site #10 based on its close proximity to the lake and fishing access. Even when I put my waders on, I pulled in algae almost every time. There is a ton of algae in this lake. We rented a canoe with the hopes of having more fishing success but the middle of the lake was just as bad! There was garbage in our fire pit when we arrived. Site is great for people with families as there was a playground within 50 feet so it is a bit louder and busier. We loved the free and clean showers and bathrooms but we had to drive to them from our site. We also loved that we were able to park our car basically anywhere on site so we could park close to our tent.

    Beachcomber Camping Resort

Beautiful wooded sites, lots to do and unique camping experiences.

Fun for the whole family. Lots to do and the beautiful beaches of Cape May, New Jersey are a short 10 minute drive. The different types of camping/glamping experiences exceeded my expectations. We enjoyed the Deer Crossing Teepee which had far more luxuries than any other glamping I have done. Highly recommend this campground resort.

    Cape Henlopen State Park Campground

    Awesome HUGE State Park Campground

Cape Henlopen is wonderful and really, really large. Bring the bicycles, helmets are required. We love it here, there is so much to do. There are miles upon miles of walking and biking trails. There are nice play facilities for kids, loads of water and beach access. Great fishing, with a large open pier complete with well stocked, well informed and reasonably priced tackle shop on the pier. Nice bathroom facilities available there as well.

There is a fantastic nature center (FREE) complete with touch tanks and knowledgeable park staff. Free bike rentals are available, some with baby seats and trailers. As a former military installation, there are lots of military historical items and sites. Underground bunkers and batteries and such. There's a wonderful observation tower built on top of one of these that affords beautiful 360 degree views and photo opportunities. There are also old observation towers, one of which you can climb to the top of.

Lots and lots of wildlife and nature photography to be had here.

Campsites can be a bit tight, and the measurements online are real. Fire rings and picnic tables are available on sites. There's a camp store as well. We've stayed both on sites and in one of the really nice cabins. The cabins are great for families, but do not allow pets.

Guide to North Wildwood

Camping near North Wildwood offers diverse experiences beyond traditional tent sites, with glamping options available across southern New Jersey's pine barrens and coastal areas. The region sits at just 7 feet above sea level and experiences summer temperatures averaging 85°F with high humidity from June through September. Winter camping is limited as many facilities close after October due to temperatures dropping into the 30s.

What to do

Swimming opportunities: Cape Henlopen State Park features both ocean beaches and a swimming lake. "The bathhouse and concession stand at the beach is very nice. Sunset on the beach is absolutely serene," notes Amanda R. The park maintains designated swimming areas with seasonal lifeguards.

Biking trails: Sun Outdoors Cape May provides easy access to an 11-mile rail trail directly across from the campground. According to Joel A., "There is an 11 mile rail trail across the street as well." Several campgrounds offer bike rentals for visitors who don't bring their own.

Wildlife observation: At Cape Henlopen State Park, historical observation towers provide unique vantage points. One camper shares, "There's a wonderful observation tower built on top of one of these that affords beautiful 360 degree views and photo opportunities." The towers originally served as military lookouts during WWII.

Historic exploration: Cape Henlopen features preserved military installations from World War II. Sarah S. mentions, "Over 20 miles of trails through pine trees, with views of sand dunes. It also has historic ruins from ww2." Self-guided tours with interpretive signs explain the strategic importance of these coastal defenses.

What campers like

Privacy between sites: Many campers appreciate the secluded feel at Belleplain State Forest. One visitor noted, "Our site was HUGE!!!! It was also super private with trees and a lot of privacy from the road and our neighbors." Sites in wooded areas offer natural separation.

Clean facilities: Facilities at several campgrounds receive positive reviews. At Holly Shores Camping Resort, Dave R. shares, "Bathhouses were clean and well maintained." Newer bathhouses tend to be air-conditioned, while older ones may lack cooling.

Lake activities: Many campgrounds feature freshwater swimming lakes as alternatives to ocean beaches. Christopher E. comments about Shellbay Campgrounds, "We stayed here because it was within biking distance of the beaches at Stone Harbor, Wildwood, and Cape May." Lakes typically offer calmer swimming conditions compared to ocean beaches.

Seasonal decor: Long-term campers often create elaborate seasonal displays. Dina S. observed at Holly Shores, "Nice pool and some of the best looking seasonal Ive seen decked out with tiki bars, etc." These decorated sites add character to campgrounds throughout the season.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Cape Henlopen fills quickly, especially for summer weekends. Chris G. advises, "I hear it gets packed and I see that it's hard to book if you don't book early." Most glamping accommodations near North Wildwood require bookings 6-12 months in advance.

Off-season options: Many campgrounds operate with reduced services in spring and fall. According to Frank J. at Belleplain State Forest, "Stayed in site 116 in CCC section (only section with electric and water)." Some facilities close bathhouses or water hookups during cooler months.

Cell service limitations: Connectivity varies widely across campgrounds. One Belleplain camper reported, "Virtually NO cell service with AT&T, TMobile or Verizon. AT&T was the better of the 3." Heavily wooded sites typically have weaker signals compared to more open areas.

Campground rules: Each facility maintains different policies about visitors and vehicles. At Ocean View Resort Campground, Diane T. cautions, "There is also a unique payment structure for guests (day pass, night pass after 4pm, or day + overnight are all different prices)." Most glamping sites near North Wildwood enforce quiet hours starting at 10pm.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Ocean View Resort Campground offers multiple water features. Ray L. shares, "This campground had it all from a huge pool and unbelievable splash pad to a great swimming pond with a beach!" Most family-oriented resorts provide structured activities during summer weekends.

Transportation options: Golf cart rentals provide convenient transportation around larger campgrounds. Dave R. notes about Holly Shores, "We had a blast with a golf cart rental. The campground is rather large, so it felt like a necessity to have a secondary way of getting around easily as a family." Rental rates typically run $50-75 per day.

Arcade access: Many campgrounds maintain game rooms for rainy days. According to Tiffany P., Ocean View Resort has "Lake, pool, ice cream, arcade, mini golf, mining station, activities." Bring quarters as most arcade games require coins rather than tokens.

Camping near attractions: Consider location when booking glamping close to North Wildwood. "The campground is a short 5 minute drive from Cape May. Sunset Beach, The Open Air Mall, and the charm of victorian Cape May are all great reasons to visit," suggests Steve W. of Holly Shores Camping Resort.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: When booking, specify your exact RV length. Matt S. from Sun Retreats Seashore Campsites recounts, "We were disappointed by the cramped site assignment because I'd indicated the size of our RV when making the reservation. There were a handful of empty sites that could have more easily accommodated our rig."

Seasonal considerations: Spring camping often means dealing with standing water. Anne H. at Belleplain notes, "Also, there was a dip in the site when backing in and our fifth wheel was bending to the point of rubbing the top of our truck when backing in. It also had rained and there were puddles in the sand."

Dump station logistics: Plan extra time for campground departure. Anne H. warns, "The worst was the dump station. It is just a little hole on the side of the road and the ONLY dump station for the 3 campgrounds! It was very unlevel and not easy to fully dump our tanks."
