Best RV Parks & Resorts near Lyndhurst, NJ

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City provides 90 RV sites with electric hookups, water connections, and dump station access less than 5 miles from Lyndhurst. Sites accommodate big rigs with 50-amp service, though spacing between units is extremely tight with minimal outdoor space. Skyline RV Camp offers electric hookups at its two Brooklyn locations, with the waterfront section providing 20 sites for RVs and the non-waterfront area offering 28 sites, though recent reviews indicate the waterfront location has moved and no longer provides skyline views. Black Bear RV Park in Florida, NY maintains 74 full-hookup sites about 40 miles northwest of Lyndhurst with 30/50-amp service year-round. "Literally a parking lot with water & electric hookups. Larger rigs will barely have a yard. And don't bet on a private picnic table."

Most RV parks in the metro area fill quickly during peak season, particularly Liberty Harbor with its proximity to Manhattan. Navigating Jersey City streets around Liberty Harbor requires careful attention with larger motorhomes, as construction and narrow roads create challenges. According to one visitor, "The area was under a ton of construction when we drove in, which meant difficult to navigate roads and we barely squeezed by larger trucks." Cell service remains strong throughout the metropolitan area parks. Dump station availability varies, with Liberty Harbor providing on-site facilities but potentially requiring waiting during busy checkout periods. Pets are generally permitted at most locations, though amenities beyond basic hookups are minimal at urban RV parks. Price points reflect the premium location, with Liberty Harbor charging significantly more than parks farther from NYC.

    Adventure Bound Camping (Tall Pines)

    Deceiving Website

We stayed at Adventure Bound Tall Pines in Elmer, New Jersey, for Memorial Day weekend for a quick getaway. Despite reserving and paying for a“Premium” site, it fell far short. But there were still a few things we liked

    THINGS I LIKED:

    1. Super-friendly staff, especially Allie, who was courteous and seemed to try to make things right

    2. Lots of mature shade trees

    3. DJ at the pool Saturday and Sunday and live band Saturday evening

    4. Close proximity to Delsea Drive-in Theatre and Cohenzick Zoo

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE SO MUCH:

    1. I reserved and paid-in-full for a premium site which listed 50-amp service and a concrete pad. Nope. Only 30-amp service and no concrete pad. When I called the office, assuming there must’ve been a mistake, I was told by two different staff members that their website is“wonky.” I wouldn’t mind as much, but this weekend was 90-degrees each day and humid, so it would’ve been good to have air conditioning.

    2. The entire park was dirty sand with weeds growing everywhere

    3. This place is not big-rig friendly, difficult to navigate some of the turns in our 45’ motorhome and taking scratches from tree branches that should be trimmed

    4. I paid$432 for 3-nights and feel like I was taken

    WOULD WE COME BACK?

Nope. I’m sticking with campgrounds that give you what you paid for.

    Blydenburgh County Park

    Big Rig Camping in Blydenburgh

We have a 42 ft 5th wheel toy hauler. A few Big Rig spots are available, but this is a Suffock Co Campground that is not well maintained. 2 miles of the Road have many areas of missing blacktop making a very rough ride with low branches. The dump station is basically not accessible to a big rig. Most of the longer sites were very difficult to level.

    Kymers Camping Resort

Fun, friendly & nestled in the woods

We stayed at Kymer's on a whim for a weekend, so we could be close to Mountain Creek for a Spartan Race. It truly exceeded our expectations in all aspects. This is a family friendly, camper-friendly place. Lots of seasonals- everyone waves, everyone stops to chat. This is what a campground should feel like. The sound of laughter and play sitting around the huge, clean pool was refreshing. Our site was Oak 10. It was level, good placement of electric water & sewer connects. Camp store has all the basics you might need. There is a brook that flows adjacent to the property. It's peaceful & magical. Pet friendly, although we didn't have our pup with us. We will be back again. I almost feel like I'm revealing a hidden gem with this post. 💎

    Mahlon Dickerson Reservation

    Nice, small, spacious campground

We stayed at site 15 for 5 days. The sites are nicely wooded, very well spaced, fairly level with 50A service and water hookup. Although the water spigots were shared between sites, they provide hose caddies that should reach most RV hookups. No sewer hookup, but there is a convenient dump station. There are no fire rings in the RV section, only raised grills. We had the place pretty much to ourselves during the week, but the weekend did get busy. AT&T had ok data connection with 1-2 bars most of the time. There is no satellite coverage due to the heavy tree canopy. OTA TV was very inconsistent using an external omni antenna. There is no WiFi. There is a very nice network of trails in the reservation, most if not all were leashed dog friendly. There is a very nice restaurant, Stone Water, less than 10 miles away and is right on lake Hopatcong.

    Panther Lake Camping Resort

    Stayed all summer

We stayed at Panther Lake as full timers all season. Great during the week but very busy on weekends. Could be noisy with children not very well supervised.
Friendly, helpful staff. Cable TV poor when it rains. Cell service spotty all carriers. No internet at sites. Lake beautiful and pool nice.

    Turkey Swamp Park

    Quiet Woodland Campground

Turkey Swamp Park is a great find! Heavily wooded and supremely quiet, it’s located not far from anywhere you’d want to be. 30 minutes to the shore.ïżŒ Every site is a pull-through, large and spacious with great woodland views.ïżŒ 30amp and water. Dump station.

The park has miles of shady forested trails for hiking and dog walking.ïżŒ there’s a large lake here too, for water based recreational activitiesïżŒ.

The bathrooms, showers, and laundry are co-located in a centrally situated structure. Everything inside is clean and well-maintained.

We’ve got good cell signal with Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. (We use all three.ïżŒ) Good OTA television signal also.ïżŒ

We spent three days here in July 2021.

Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center RV Sites

    Quiet, spacious, no frills

We stayed in site #1 with our 21' travel trailer. In our opinion this is the best site because you have an unobstructed view of Stockton Lake & the horizon over the ocean. Big rig spots are further back (around site 6-9 or so). 9 sites total & they are often booked, so need to do so in advance. Free beach just a few moments' walk down the road. Close to shore towns & many restaurants. Plenty of space for kids to play in the field/grass area. TONS of geese everywhere though. Pets are NOT allowed (but they'd probably help w the geese problem). You get access to the showers with a key card and when you check in, but I don't have anything to report as I used the bathroom/shower in our trailer. Price is great at $45/night. FULL hookups as well. Only annoying thing was the sewer hookup is about 18 inches off the ground so you need to lift the hose when emptying the tanks to ensure it actually fully drains.

Guide to Lyndhurst

RV sites near Lyndhurst, New Jersey are predominantly concentrated within a 40-mile radius, with most options positioned east toward the Hudson River or northwest into more rural areas. The region sits at the junction of suburban development and transportation corridors, creating limited but strategic camping locations. Sites typically experience seasonal temperature variations from winter lows around 20°F to summer highs near 90°F, with peak camping season running May through September.

What to do

Hiking in Harriman State Park: Beaver Pond Campground offers quick access to numerous trails including parts of the Appalachian Trail. "A quick 15 minute drive from Beaver Pond, is Bear Mountain State Park. Here you can find some of the Appalachian Trail, with various smaller trail heads for this historic (Revolutionary Times 1770s) part of the region including the one to Doodle Town," notes one visitor at Beaver Pond Campground.

Ferry rides to NYC landmarks: Utilize the ferry services near Liberty Harbor RV Park for Manhattan access. "Short drive to Liberty Park where we got out and walked at night to admire the city skyline and Statue of Liberty at night," shares a camper at Liberty Harbor RV Park. Another mentions, "This is a prime location for visiting the city or heading down the shore. The light rail is a block away, and the path train is about 8."

Local beach access: Several campgrounds provide water recreation opportunities. A camper at Military Park notes, "Free beach just a few moments' walk down the road. Close to shore towns & many restaurants. Plenty of space for kids to play in the field/grass area."

What campers like

Transportation convenience: The proximity to public transit makes city exploration manageable without driving. "The ferry is 100-yards away that takes you to Wall Street M-F. There is a great market about 1/4 of a mile away, and the path that can take you to WTC or 33rd Street area is only a mile away," reports a camper at Liberty Harbor RV Park.

Wooded seclusion within reach of urban areas: Mahlon Dickerson Reservation offers natural settings with adequate spacing. "Our site is easily the nicest—all the way in the back with only one neighbor. It is so quiet here. The sites are spaced well and have a nice bonus of large fire rings set back in the woods a bit from the pad that you park on."

Evening skyline views: Nighttime views create memorable experiences for campers. "We had a FHU 30/50 amp. At dusk when the animals came out!" reports a Black Bear RV Park visitor. Another camper at Skyline RV Camp shares, "The view of the skyline across the water is spectacular and there's a metro station within a 10-minute walk."

What you should know

Limited amenities at urban sites: Urban RV parks prioritize location over facilities. "This is all about location. The closest RV park to NYC. It's basically a parking lot with a dump station. Not much else," explains a Tri-State RV Park reviewer. "Located just off the highway so lots of vehicle noise 24/7. Sites are on a gravel lot. Restrooms are clean. Not much else to say about this CG, is just a parking lot with hookups."

Construction challenges: Urban development affects access to several campgrounds. "The area itself was under a ton of construction when we drove in, which meant for difficult to navigate roads and we barely squeezed by larger trucks who were also in the roadways," reports one Liberty Harbor visitor.

Seasonal operation: Some camping options have limited availability. Beaver Pond Campground operates from "April 22 to October 9" while Military Park RV sites at Sea Girt operate from "Memorial Day to Labor Day," requiring advance planning during peak months.

Tips for camping with families

Platform camping for wet weather: Black Bear RV Park offers elevated camping surfaces. "Many of the camping options were on platforms which is especially nice if it recently rained or if you are expecting rain during your stay," notes a Beaver Pond visitor.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Children can enjoy wildlife sightings at several campgrounds. "We recently had the pleasure of staying at Mountain Top and were impressed by the exceptional experience and service provided by the owners. The family-friendly atmosphere was evident through the thoughtfully designed property, including an updated pool, playground, game room, and a brand-new pickleball court."

Playground access: Many campgrounds provide play areas for children. "Has a playground. Short distance from the NYC, very organized, clean pond, has a playground, showers, bathroom. Your phone will have signal," explains a Beaver Pond camper.

Tips from RVers

Navigation challenges: Plan your route carefully when approaching urban RV parks. "Getting in and out of the city is an adventure. Stay right off the highway to avoid the $30 tunnel toll. Follow RV life pro and not Waze," advises a Liberty Harbor visitor.

Water connection management: Be prepared for unusual water hookup configurations. "Website lists water hook ups at long distances but they have hose reels to help with that. Our site (15) said 75' however the 50' hose reel made it to our rv connection," reports a Mountain Top RV Park camper.

Sewer connection height issues: Some facilities have elevated waste connections. "Only annoying thing was the sewer hookup is about 18 inches off the ground so you need to lift the hose when emptying the tanks to ensure it actually fully drains," notes a Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center visitor.
