Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Overton, NV

Atlatl Rock and Arch Rock campgrounds in Valley of Fire State Park welcome dogs in all areas except visitor center buildings and certain hiking trails. Both sites offer pet-friendly tent and RV camping with fire rings, picnic tables, and nearby water stations. Pets must remain on leashes no longer than 6 feet at all times throughout the park. Each site has covered picnic areas and easy access to pet relief areas. The park rangers patrol regularly to ensure compliance with pet policies. For free camping with dogs, Snowbird Mesa (also known as Poverty Flats) provides spacious dispersed camping with plenty of room for pets to explore, though it can be quite windy. Stewart's Point Dispersed Camping near Lake Mead allows pets but owners should keep smaller dogs close due to active coyotes in the area.

Several pet-friendly trails wind through Valley of Fire State Park, providing scenic walking opportunities for dogs and their owners. Local wildlife includes wild burros that sometimes vocalize at night, requiring extra vigilance with pets. The town of Overton, approximately 20 minutes from most camping areas, offers groceries, laundry facilities, and basic pet supplies. During summer months, extreme heat poses serious risks to pets, so campers should ensure adequate shade and water at all times. Stewart's Point includes nearby free dump stations and water access at Echo Bay. When camping at Valley of Fire with dogs, sites positioned against boulders can amplify sound significantly, making barking more disruptive to neighboring campers. The Wildlife Management Area in Overton provides excellent bird-watching opportunities that can be enjoyed with leashed pets.

Desert Eagle RV Park - Military Only

    Another perk for Vets

This RV park is available to retired and/or active duty…great sites, most are pull thru…dogs loved the dog park instead of leash walks…

Duck Creek RV Park & Resort

Duck Creek RV Park & Resort

Very clean & popular with asphalt roadways, newer RVs, long-term & short-term stays, store, restrooms with showers, pool & spa, and dog park.  Easy access to downtown Las Vegas and nearby major shopping and casinos.

Stewart’s Point Dispersed Camping — Lake Mead National Recreation Area

    Quiet, convenient dry camping

This is dispersed camping, some of which was former lakebed. There’s several NPS designated dirt roads that are passable at various distances from the lake shore, many are nicely level. There is a free dump station and water nearby at Echo Bay. Propane is available at the small gas station at Echo Bay. Overton is a short drive (though possibly inaccessible if raining, several parts of the route are at flash flooding risk) for groceries, laundry, hardware store, automotive stores The local wild burros will serenade you at 3 AM. And the coyotes are vocal as well - be extremely careful to keep pets, especially smaller ones, close.

Las Vegas KOA Journey at Sam's Town

    KOA Winning!!!

This is a one night stay for us and a last minute idea! Was a little worried about finding somewhere for an RV and peoples reviews scared me. This KOA is right off the Highway with easy parking for all sizes, 15 minutes from Vegas strip and there is a casino right next to us too. Friendly staff at check-in, 2 security men patrolling at 1am when we got in. Dog park and dog relief area are small but clean. Showers and bathrooms are well lit and clean. Pool looked good but did not have a chance to get in. Friendly neighbors too. Would definitely come back again.

Government Wash — Lake Mead National Recreation Area

    Relaxing Dispersed Camping

Beautiful sunsets near waterline. Tent and/or vehicle camping only in this lower area. RV camping up on hill side. Fishing good. Hiking good. Lots of birds and some coyotes. Watch your small pets! Facebook SNORR (Southern Nevada Off Road Recovery) if you get stuck in any soil. They will get you out free but please donate anything you can after.

Las Vegas KOA Journey at Sam's Town

    Nice stop

The staff were very friendly and had hours until 9pm. This was refreshing as we got a late start to our trip and arrived in around 8pm. Most campgrounds this would be considered after hours. Maintenance and security were always around the park and friendly. The campground has 2 dog parks. They were both fairy clean! Thankfully we got a back in spot with grass since we did have our dog. Most of the park is just gravel. Just a 5 minute walk across the parking garage to get to the casino if you choose to go to the one that is linked up with it. Would stay here again

    Oasis RV Park - Mesquite

    Nice Enough

If not for competing with the resorts on the strip in Las Vegas, this park meets all needs sufficiently. The dog parks could use some remodeling, and the sites are not landscaped. Pulling into the palm tree lined entrance is the best part. I was under a giant billboard, so this park leaves a lot to the imagination. There was nothing referencing the Vegas strip here, and I think that could be improved.

    Desert Sands RV Resort

    Great SAFE park..

First time living in 5th wheel 26 ft camper home. The staff is always helpful and mailroom lady helpful. The park always clean and security present always, plus they do rounds every hour and at dark the gate closed to one car entry with security officer to validate entry which as a single lady I prefer.  Clubhouse nice with tv games for families and pool has bbq station as heated pool with hot tub beside pool nice chairs to layout and also designed with seating around pool. I feel safe which if needed I have CCP for Vegas but don't feel need weapon in park but out in streets of Vegas always good idea. Covid has made homeless issues out in every area of Vegas but this park does great job as have not seen one homeless in Park. As everyone has to show Id at gate.. I have spent first month with no issues and two dog parks with grass parks close by within 1.5 miles.

    Thousand Trails Las Vegas

    Tight tight spaces

Thousand Trails Las Vegas offers the convenience of being close to downtown and the Strip, but the immediate neighborhood leaves something to be desired.

The RV sites are extremely tight, often requiring neighbors to move vehicles to allow larger rigs to maneuver. Facilities are minimal, with the smallest bathrooms imaginable—there’s barely any legroom in the stalls, and the stoop outside the restroom is a tripping hazard (I fell and got bruised). Laundry is great.

While there is a dog park, the gate was broken upon arrival, only to be manually fixed by a fellow camper. Pool was closed until further notice.

Security is present with 24/7 gate monitoring, but enforcement felt lax when an unknown vehicle parked in front of our RV on Halloween night. Though the intruder eventually moved, it was unsettling that security didn’t intervene.

This park works as a quick city base but comes with several drawbacks.

What to do

Bird watching: Overton Wildlife Management Area offers excellent pet-friendly birding opportunities. The area has designated trails specifically for wildlife observation with leashed pets.

Hiking with dogs: Valley of Fire Dispersed serves as a base camp for exploring nearby trails. "We loved camping here! It provided beautiful sunsets. The dispersed area allows direct access to multiple pet-friendly trails.

Stargazing: Snowbird Mesa provides unobstructed night sky viewing about 15 minutes from Overton. "When you pull off the road, don't be afraid of the gravel road on the left. What campers like

Level campsites: Arch Rock Campground features well-maintained, flat tent and RV pads. "We spent 3 nights here in our pop up camper with two little ones (4 & 2yo). This campground is very well maintained and the access to hiking and exploring are literally out your tent!" shares Kenzie G. The campground charges $20 per night for camping.

Privacy between sites: Sand Mine Road #110 Dispersed Camping offers widely spaced camping areas. "Really nice get away from the Utah heavy snow season this year. Very well dispersed sites many areas. What you should know

Wind protection: Stewart's Point Dispersed Camping can experience significant gusts across the open desert. "Beautiful spot. A bit windy this week. Not to many other campers here mid-week, but a few. White caps on the water because of wind," reports Becky. Position vehicles or tents against natural barriers when possible.
