RV Campground — Echo Canyon State Park

    pioch camping

Ok, I gave this campsite 4 stars only because it's worth another 20 minutes to get up to the horse thief gulch campground…

anyway, it's so sad to see the water level so low… awww this poor lake breaks my heart.

    partial hookups and hot showers

    ADA accessible

no one was on the water but I did see a guy who said he was able to catch dinner…. it's super muddy so be prepared to bring a change of clothes.

Bathrooms are clean and well maintained.

quite a bit of a walk for you to get to the lake but heyyyy what else do you have to do??

    Pretty views and sunrises.

You're about 30 minutes to Pioche if you forgot anything or want to wake up to and eat a hot breakfast.

Gravel roads and great sized campsites. EVERY spot is great!

Eagle Valley Resort & RV Park

    Eagle Valley Resort

Stayed here in July for a family trip. Rented a small cabin for my mom and adult sons and an RV space for myself and husband. The cabin was surprisingly clean and well maintained. The rest of the park, not so much. Most of the spaces were filled by permanent residents in mostly run down trailers and spaces full of trash and other “stuff”. Dogs and cats were wandering with no leashes. The spaces were small and overgrown with weeds. The picnic tables were falling apart, warped with peeling paint. The bathroom’s were clean but the fixtures were old and mismatched. The store seemed well stocked and actually affordable. The bar was dingy but had a lot of character. The park was for sale so I assume they weren’t interested in maintenance. I’m glad we only paid $25 for the site with the Passport America membership but the $90 for the cabin seemed like a lot. It did allow us to all be together so that bumped up the stars.

Ranger Review: GCI Outdoor Comfort Cushion  at Echo Canyon State Park, NV

    CAMPGROUND REVIEW

Echo Canyon State Park, 12 miles east of Pioche, NV. There are two campgrounds: Sites 1-20, on a hill southwest of the reservoir, are for RVs with full hook-ups, restrooms, showers & dump. There are 33 more sites on a hill just north of the reservoir, with restrooms & dump. All sites are first come first serve. Campsites are very well designed and thoughtful with large roofed shade structures over sturdy  picnic tables, fire rings, BBQ grills, and water at every site!  Beautiful landscape, easy access to the Ash Canyon hiking trail loop, and a 65-acre reservoir for kayaking & fishing. Very peaceful and quiet!

    PRODUCT REVIEW

As a ranger for The Dyrt, I get products to test from time to time. While camping at Echo Canyon State Park, we tested the GCI Outdoor Comfort Cushion.

    https://www.gcioutdoor.com/stadium-chairs/comfort-cushion/

GCI Comfort Cushions are light-weight, thickly padded, and with a zipped cover. Inside, the padding consists of dense foam and a lighter foam. These cushions are nothing less than wonderful! No more sore sitz bones when sitting at the picnic table (or any place you need extra padding/comfort)! I comfortably sat for 4 hours while we are here, working on a project that required sitting at the table top. It was a delight to be outside for so long and be comfortable! We highly recommend the GCI Comfort Cushions, 5 stars!!

Here we are using the cushions at the campground:

In summary, we loved camping at Echo Canyon State Park (4 days, 3 nights) and adding these great cushions to our camping gear made our stay extra fun & comfy!

    Roll-Inn RV Park

    Full hook ups for RVs

Not much to this little RV park, Pull-in, find your spot, and pay.

They have pull-through sites, tables, full hookups, and really decent prices for daily and weekly rates. (Weekly  is only 90.00)

Bring quarters... if you need to do laundry, it's a small room but well kept.

Look forward to seeing deers running through the streets and hunters always found at the diner... by the way the diner has decent food that is hot on a cold morning or evening.

It gets cold in Pioche so make sure you dress accordingly if your coming during the winter months.

And bring a hat during the summer times.

All in all an affordable place if your driving through and need to pull over and rest.

Here are my star ratings based on my lifestyle and based on what I like.

I'm also a mother, dog mama, and a wife so it's not just me it's my crew and i.

1 star- AUTOMATIC relocate… the property is no longer there, trashed or/and I could never have my children there and I wouldn't ever think about staying no matter what OR it is not something our campers are on this is more of an Airbnb.

2 star- Not really my jam, and would NEVER go to again… It probably more of desert life and not really my style for sure…Being from Vegas I can't stand being in the desert and I love the Trees and the Green more than anything. Not to mention not much to do for my children so…. not where i would need to go again

3 star- Would stay there again in a pinch, but not really my style, the reason its not is because not enough family things to do, the scenery, or the location… but I would go again and feel safe having my kiddos here but only if I needed to in a pinch.

4 star- a really good rating for sure, maybe needed some improvements, minor things like being on top of each other, not a lot of privacy, but honestly little cosmetic things that aren't anything to sweat and would be back again for sure.

5 star- MY FAVORITE… love the location, safety, the surroundings, big camp spots available to fit toys for my kids to play, hammocks to hang, our big family tent, cases of firewood, our suburban or RV, etcccccc….. I would not only come back but would live if I could!!! Anyway thanks for reading and enjoy every moment like it's your last!

     CHEERS!

    Meadow Valley Campground

Beautiful tent camping site from BLM

I happened upon this campground by accident and so happy about it. There is a sign warning that the grounds are not suitable for RV or trailers so it's perfect for tent campers wanting to get away from that. The campground is set just off the highway leading to Spring Valley State Park. It is a small campground but is surrounded by untouched natural beauty. All of the sites have picnic tables (not covered), fire pits and grills for cooking. The sites are pretty good sized and set far enough away from each other to give plenty of privacy. There are tent pads at some sites but all sites seemed level and spacious. There's easy access to the bathrooms. Bring in your water as there is no access.

    Cathedral Gorge State Park Campground

    Very Unique location

Nice little campground located in the Cathedral Gorge State Park in Eastern central Nevada. Sites are first come first serve. Each has Electrical hook ups, but no sewer/dump facilities. Bathrooms have running water and a shower which is very nice. The hiking trails are great and provide lots of exploring on the Cathedral Gorge.

    Steve, the “Happy Camper”

Guide to Pioche

Cathedral Gorge State Park is located at 3,100 feet elevation in the high desert of eastern Nevada, featuring dramatic clay formations shaped by erosion over millennia. The park serves as a hub for pet-friendly camping near Pioche, Nevada, with surrounding areas offering a mix of developed and primitive options. Winter temperatures regularly drop below freezing while summer days can exceed 100°F, requiring seasonal preparation for comfortable camping.

What to do

Explore slot canyons with dogs: Cathedral Gorge State Park Campground allows leashed pets throughout the park, with unique hiking opportunities. "Nice hike around camp," notes Breanna B., while another camper explains the exploration potential: "It was so much fun to play in all the slots and explore on your own. They aren't super long so it would take a lot to get lost."

Visit nearby state parks: Spring Valley State Park offers additional recreational opportunities just a short drive away. "The lake is not big, but the fishing was good. Campground is very clean and maintained," reports Gary C. This park provides a contrast to Cathedral Gorge with its water-based activities.

Watch wildlife: The area around Pioche attracts diverse wildlife viewable from camping areas. "Every night the deer come down to graze in the field. So between 4-5pm I take the kids to watch them," shares Missy L. from Horsethief Gulch Campground. Jackrabbits, birds, and occasionally desert foxes can be spotted in quieter camping areas.

What campers like

Well-maintained facilities: Cathedral Gorge receives consistent praise for its upkeep. "This campground is well maintained flat level gravel sites with some shade, power available," notes Donald J., adding "This is our second stay here," indicating satisfaction with the facilities.

Privacy in dispersed areas: For those seeking more seclusion with pets, Bristol Road Dispersed Trail offers quieter options. "We saw wild horses and jackrabbits on the road to the campsite. There was one or two fire pits and lots of rooms. We were there Friday night and had the place to ourselves," reports Kaltra B.

Clean restrooms and showers: State park campgrounds in the area maintain good bathroom facilities. At Kershaw-Ryan State Park, campers appreciate that "Restrooms were clean" and another notes "There is flushable toilets and free showers available which is super nice."

What you should know

Limited availability: Most established campgrounds fill quickly during peak seasons. At Kershaw-Ryan, one visitor warns: "We got the last spot in the campground, it fills up quickly and people came after us who had to leave to find another place. Lesson: arrive early in the day probably between 10am-1pm will get you a spot."

Weather considerations: The high desert climate brings temperature extremes. Visitors to Bristol Pass Dispersed should prepare for weather fluctuations: "Roads just come up quick and aren't marked so slow down before you are approaching," cautions Jules S., highlighting how weather can affect navigation.

Free camping options: For budget-conscious pet owners, Pioche City Park provides no-cost stays. "It's free.....they accept donations. Your stay limit is 7 days. Pick up after your pups and keep them on leashes," explains Brittney C., adding that basic amenities include "water, trash and deers always running around here."

Tips for camping with families

Choose sites with shade: Summer heat makes shade structures crucial. At Cathedral Gorge, Lucy L. points out that "The sites are arranged in a circle and there are clean restrooms available. They were just a short walk from our campsite."

Visit during wildlife hours: Scheduling activities around wildlife viewing times enhances the experience. "The jackrabbits and lizards came right into our campsite to check us out, and there were birds singing everywhere - not what we expected from a desert landscape," shares Tara S. about her family's Cathedral Gorge experience.

Look for campgrounds with play areas: Horsethief Gulch Campground offers family-friendly amenities beyond just camping. "This is one of my favorite places to take the kids! This campground is well kept with lots of sites," reports Missy L., highlighting the family appeal of the area.

Tips from RVers

Electric hookups available: Most established campgrounds offer electrical connections. Donald J. notes that Cathedral Gorge has "flat level gravel sites with some shade, power available. Overflow parking nearby."

Dump stations: RV campers should note available sanitation facilities. Nanine V. mentions Cathedral Gorge's cleanliness: "This was our second Nevada State park campground and it was just as immaculate as the first. The sites were level, groomed, and not a speck of trash to be found."

Consider size restrictions: Whipple Cave requires more rugged vehicles for access. "A 4w drive is highly encountered. You won't be able to make the drive in a sedan," warns Alex B., information important for RVers planning to visit this more remote pet-friendly camping area near Pioche.
