      On-Ur-Wa RV Park

      Nice stopover

This small campground is right off the interstate, easy to get to. It’s right by a small truck stop, but the noise was not bothersome at all. There is a small dog park for the pups. Bathrooms and showers are clean. One of our party is in a wheelchair and had no problem accessing the showers or bathroom. Hosts are very friendly. Sites are close, but for a one night stay that was just fine.

Danish Alps State Recreation Area Camping

      Perfectly Adequate

The overall rec area is lovely. During the regular season, roughly May to mid October, there is running water and showers at some spots with vault toilets available year round. Horse trails and camping is available at Danish Alps as are primitive and electric spots. The electric is all designed for RV's, vans, or trucks, but there is sufficient space at each site that you can have a tent. The electric area is up on a hill overlooking the lake and there is absolutely no mature tree cover in the area. Trees have been planted, but it will be a long while before they provide much shade. Like most of Nebraska most of the time it does get windy and being on the hill the electric camp gets to feel it for good and ill. The town of Hubbard is right next to the rec area, but because of the way things are laid out you do not get as many people casually driving around at night like you do at some other places. Being in the vicinity of Sioux City and Dakota City there is some glow on the horizon at night.

Verizon cell coverage was sufficient for streaming without buffering when camped there in September 2025.

      Union Grove State Park Campground

      Very clean and quiet camping

The campsites are in a bunch of pine trees and so that cuts down a lot on the weather if there's an issue it's got nice breezes but it gets cold cold at night like down in the 50s. I'm camping in a tent with my cat and dog and my cat likes to roam free a little bit and there's only I think about 20 campsites here and they're both from tent sides to a full-on RVs. There's a nice shower and bathroom and close proximity there's four and inside each one is a modern toilet sink and shower and lockable. The only complaint that I have is that a lot of the campsite spots are at an angle not only to get down to it from the road but an angle for the tent and the pine needles cover the ground which make great starting for fires they burn so fast and so quick that you feel like you're in a tinder box a little bit which is kind of spooky if there's a spark that goes flying it could actually set the whole campfire on a blaze. There is a nice camping pit this is a steak Campground and so able to get campsites for $16 a night. The people that are on staff here are so sweet give you lots of good advice for what's close by there is it's right between Beresford and vermilion so that's like 10 miles each way but there's no ice here so you would have to drive to one of those facilities to get the ice and by the time you got back would probably be melted to be honest with you so that's the only drawback so I would suggest dry ice for sure. There's a children's playground here for kids it would be something I guess you know very fun to go and be explorers in the woods I don't think there's much chance of them getting too lost really. But all in all this is a really good place to stay I've been here six nights now and I've only got a couple more to go and then I'll be moving on.

Oak Bluff Campground — Ponca State Park

Gorgeous Nebraska State Park, primitive site T45 review

I had the please of staying at this beautiful Nebraska state park with my youngest son on a return trip home from North Dakota over the July 4th weekend 2019. We pulled in after office ours and easily found several primitive walk up sites to choose from. We selected T45 for it’s proximity to a scenic Missouri River overlook and it’s flat, shaded ground. Ponca SP is a large clean and hilly state park offering just about everything you could want from Glamping in cabins to roughing it on one of several pack in trails. There is plentiful wildlife to observe. We witnessed deer and many species of birds in our one evening and morning stay. Guests to the park can partake in horse trail rides($), golf($), fishing, hunting, shooting/ archery range, biking/hiking, water activities such as kayaking or canoeing on the Missouri River, and a large pool near the entrance. Food service is also available on site if you get tired of cooking at your camp. If you want a power site for an RV I’d highly recommend reserving well in advance because this is a popular SP. For those of us who tent camp without power you’ll likely find the perfect spot for your small to large tent on a walk up site with plentiful shade trees at all of the sites that I observed. I highly recommend trying to get the site one spot to the North of T45, it literally looks right over the Missouri River and sits just steps away from the scenic overlook. The bathroom facility right by T45 was clean and well maintained and there was a water faucet next to this site as well as the trash bins. Scenic hikes, drives, or bike rides around the park are largely shaded with a rich tree canopy over rolling hills throughout the park. There are at least two scenic river overlooks with historical referenced to the area’s rich history including the Lewis and Clark expedition. Check the park’s web site at outdoornebraska.gov/Ponca/ to find out what educational and fun events might be happening at the park. They hold a Harvest/Halloween event over a few days in October each year, but you’ll have to book a site a year in advance if you want to for sure get a spot during that time. Don’t forget to stop in to the education center and learn all about the river’s history. The education center is top notch and one of our favorite things about the park. This is a five star state park by any measure and I can’t wait for a return trip to this park.

      Gilman Park

Four sites in a city park

If you are passing through northeast Nebraska, Gilman Park Campground in Pierce Nebraska is a convenient, budget-friendly stopover. It is a small, basic setup located right inside a lovely city park. There is not a dump station directly inside the park, but there is a public dump station located in the town about two minutes away. In May 2026 the nightly rate was $20, with a 5 night maximum stay.

The camping layout is very straightforward, with four campsites lined up together. There are two shared power pedestals, with each pedestal serving two campsites. These are 30-amp electric only. All four sites share a single water spigot as far as I could tell, so you may need a long hose to fill your tank. There is one shared charcoal grill, a trash can, and an area with a picnic table.

The surrounding park is beautiful and I enjoyed my time here. There is a lake with a fishing dock. There are two separate playgrounds and multiple picnic shelters equipped with their own grills. There is a brick bathroom building in the park, but I did not go inside.

Right next to the campsites sits a local Pioneer Museum. It wasn't open during our visit, but it looks like a neat historical feature when accessible.

Verizon is strong here, with a 5G signal providing 200Mbps down and 6Mbps up.

      Neligh Park Campground

      Quiet camping in the city

Neligh Park campground features level concrete pads with gravel in front of each site. Every site includes a picnic table along with electric and water hookups. There is an on-site dump station that costs$2.00 if you are not staying at the park. Camping is $15 per night. Some sites are reservable online, while others can be paid for when you arrive.  The sites do not offer much shade as the trees planted around them are still small. The campground is in a quiet part of town.

The city park is adjacent to the campground. The city park has a newer, large playground, sand volleyball courts, and a walking trail that loops around the lake. There is also a community Aquatic Center on the premises that features a pool and a large water slide.

There appears to be a modern restroom building near the newer part of the park. There are a few fast food restaurants located a short drive away from the campground.

Turkey Ridge — Ponca State Park

      Great Winter Camp

A lot of places in Iowa are closed to camping until April or even May. I looked west and quickly found this. There are areas of the park that are "closed for winter", but I was able to find a primitive spot for an overnight to get out and enjoy the rebound from the subzero weather of the previous weeks. Some sites in that section are quite spacious.....although it was just me, so I had a lot of space! there were several water spigots in that section as well, so water is available during the camping season. There was a restroom fairly close by, and in the 15 hours I was there, the ranger checked on the restrooms twice. I didn't use it, but that is an indication that they aren't torn apart. No one was at the entrance, so I had to go the the education center to find self registration. The primitive rate is$15, but they reduced it to$10 in the off-season. A pass is required to camp, so you can add another$5 if you're a Nebraska resident, and$8 if you're from out of state. Season passes are also available.$40 resident,$45 non-resident. All primitive sites had shade. Lots of trees throughout the park. Beautiful.

Quiet settings: Campers appreciate the peaceful environment at Cottonwood Cove Park Campground in nearby Dakota City. "Cottonwood Cove Park was the fifth campsite we rolled into in this tri-state area looking for a spot that we actually liked, and boy did we score!" says Marc G., who noted the "spacing between sites is very, very generous."

Spacious sites: The campgrounds around Hubbard feature well-designed layouts. "Sites are easy to park in. Plenty of trees and grass," writes Lee M. about Scenic Park. Another camper, Lynn A., confirms that "sites are not crammed together and the staff is always helpful."

River views: Pet friendly camping near Hubbard, Nebraska offers scenic water views. "Our campsite had a river view, picnic table, and fire ring," notes Shannon G. about Scenic Park. At Snyder Bend County Park, "Lake facing spaces available if not already taken. Nice walking trail lakeside," reports Ann W.

    What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Many campgrounds in the Hubbard area operate seasonally. Snyder Bend County Park runs from May 1 to October 31, while Stone State Park Campground operates from April 1 to December 31. Check operating dates before planning your pet-friendly camping trip near Hubbard.

Amenities vary: KOA Campground North Sioux City offers extensive facilities. "This KOA has 5 types of RV sites, Tent sites and cabins. Nature education: Ponca State Park Cabins offers educational opportunities. "There is a visitors center that has a little bit of the history of the area as well as education of the Missouri river," explains Tony B. Another visitor mentioned that "kids did crafts, and a couple of us went to a class on dutch ovens."

    Tips from RVers

Site selection: When RV camping near Hubbard, Nebraska, check site dimensions. "All the spots are spacious...neighbors are not on top of you," reports Chris S. about Scenic Park, adding that "This spot had a nice concrete pad with a picnic table."

Hookup details: Pay attention to electric service availability. Danish Alps Recreation Area provides both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service with a clean dump station. At Cottonwood Cove Park, you'll find "water/electric/cable TV for $22/night. Be aware that there is no dump station here," warns Marc G.

Level sites: Prepare for potentially uneven terrain. "Plan on using your leveling blocks," advises Blake L. about Snyder Bend Park, while noting that despite this minor issue, "This was a restful stop. Sites had plenty of space between and it was very quiet."
