      Knob Noster State Park Campground

      Cute, Small Quiet

We camped the last weekend in September picking a late reservation where kayaks were available for our first tent test run were our main goals, which the site met. Kayaking was wildly available, due to the small lake and difficult launch, we can see why, but still very enjoyable. Site was very sizable for our tent, as most are suitable for campers. Lots of even ground, with decent distance. Facilities could do with some updates, but there were a number of bathrooms on site, spaced so no site seemed far, including the vault toilet and a lot of people masking up while going into bathrooms as well, which was appreciated. Current host was super nice and helpful to first timers. The tiny market has a number of random items, including a collapsible fork which was the only thing we hadn't overpacked, and wasn't overpriced. Fire pits on our site were adjustable, making grilling food easier to control.

      Well maintained campground

Well maintained campground with nice, level concrete pads. Sites are spacious. Bath houses (there are at least 2) have 4 unisex shower pods that are clean and have good pressure. There are no sinks or mirrors, just shower and bench. I did not go into bathroom, which was a separate building. The only reason I took off a star is because my site (13) was adjacent to a fenced off sewer lagoon which did emit slight odor. If I came again I would choose another site.

A little rowdy but everyone nice

Way off the beaten path but we had a good time. The campground was clean and everyone was nice. It did get a little rowdy on the weekend but folks respected the quiet hours.

      Bathrooms decent with showers.

T-Mobile and Verizon in places. Hard to get in a camper Several sites that can take advantage of Starlink.

      Great Overnight Campsite

Stayed here for one night after driving down from Nebraska. Great place to set up for the night, clean bathrooms, a nice fire pit, and plenty of room to set up a tarp for the rain. Not too much privacy as there’s not very many trees around and the sites are close together but otherwise a great campground!

Great views, nice sites, okay amenities.

      Stayed 7/22/200 - $15/night

      Site 97

Lake-view sites, beaches, flush toilets and showers, all for$15/night. Don’t have super high expectations.

      PROS:

Great sites on the water. Good space with picnic table and fire rings with a grate. Site 97 was on a corner, with a neighbor to one side, and lots of space between sites to the other.

      CONS:

Showers aren’t great. Cobwebs and mold. First door didn’t even lock. Wide gaps with no curtain. No soap in bathrooms.(During COVID). Can’t expect much for$15/night, but bathrooms/showers were disappointing.

You can setup in the grass, right by the water and enjoy the beach. The ranger also told us of beach access just outside the park, across the street. Bathroom/shower house was a bit of a walk from our site, but nothing crazy. Worth it for the views. No problems with AT&T cell service.

Electric Only Site with a View

Flat level gravel site with plenty of space to spread out with an amazing view of Truman Lake and Long Shoal Marina. Lakeside site with view of the open sky. Picnic table, fire ring

Poor Verizon coverage, TMobile a little better. Enjoyed lunch and breakfast at the restaurant in the marina.

With America the Beautiful Senior pass, cost of site was $10 per night

Clean bathrooms and showers. Dump station and fresh water fill station at camp ground entrance

COE Harry S Truman Reservoir Long Shoal Park

      Spacious sites - pretty views

The weather is not under control of Long Shoal unfortunately. Our plans included some kayaking however the relentless rain and wind did not allow it. That aside I can see the park is well laid out with ample space between sites. Most will accommodate the largest rigs. The only service is electrical. A dump is provided, along with trash bins at the entrance. Potable water facets are scattered around. Some are close enough to sites to connect directly but that may not be allowed. The central rest room, shower& laundry building is typical for an aged facility. It does need updating. The town of Warsaw is close with many favorite retail and food services including Walmart.

      Knob Noster State Park Campground

      Shake-down weekend with family.

Our first camping weekend this year, only 1 mile from home. Testing our 24' Forrest River Salem Cruise Lite pull behind camper systems, support supplies and food supply inventory. It was a spectacular weekend with our of town and our of state family. Knob Noster State Park is a great park for the grandkids to ride their new bikes on the level smooth campground road in safety, and for the adults to catch up over some cold beverages. The campground host this year - 2018 is ran by a couple from Illinois, and although a stickler for all the established park and campground rules - parking on the grass - they did a great job patrolling and managing the campgrounds so everyone was safe and the parks integrity was preserved. The park honored our disability rating and gave us a discount - $22.00 for 3 days & 2 nights. If you require electrical hookups, it is getting to be more common to plan ahead and submit a reservation in state parks as more and more young people are catching on to the camping experience. We didn't reserve a spot and had to take one of the last 5 'non-electric back in sites as all the many electric sites were already reserved and filled up fast. But, we were ok, as we had onboard water, sewer and DC power for lights, radio, awning, and jacks, we just switched our refrigerator to LP. We had a wonderful time and cooked everything on a portable LP grill outdoors in the amazing weather. The park offered a brand new shower house this year. Water and sewage dump sites were always available and no waiting. Next to the campgrounds was a nice medium sized lake we took our 3 canoes on with all the kids and grandkids. The only downer was that the only trash dumpster the campgrounds had and centered in the campground was already full beyond capacity when we checked out on Sunday - we were forced to carry our trash back home to disposes of it properly.

      Small tent campsites, large campground

Easy to reserve online, but the camp registration office was closed when we rolled in right after 5. The tent campsites are just a small patch of turf, but they do have tables and a nice fire pit. It was a little noisy as everyone was on top of each other and we did get a little bit of sewage smell at our site. Pool and mini golf are awesome!

    Guide to Windsor

Truman Lake offers multiple camping options within a 30-minute drive of Windsor, Missouri. The area contains three state parks and multiple Corps of Engineers sites positioned along the 958 miles of shoreline. Water levels fluctuate seasonally, with summer levels typically 4-5 feet higher than winter pool. Campsites range from basic tent spots to full hookup sites, with many located within walking distance of boat ramps and fishing access points.

    What to do

Fishing from shore: At Sparrowfoot Campground, shoreline fishing spots are accessible from multiple locations. "Site 47 right on the water great for kayaking and swimming. Water in the lake is high this time of year but fun is still to be had via fishing," notes a recent visitor to COE Harry S Truman Reservoir Long Shoal Park.

Kayaking on smaller lakes: Knob Noster State Park offers kayak rentals on Lake Buteo, providing a calmer alternative to Truman Lake. "There are several small lakes and plenty of hiking trails to keep everyone busy. The campground is one of the better ones in the state park system," mentions one camper about Knob Noster State Park Campground.

Swimming at designated beaches: "Loop B also has the playground which is right behind site B47. Further past Loop B the road turns to gravel and there is a parking lot with a walkway to the lake. This offers some small bluffs with deep water for jumping off," explains a visitor to Sparrowfoot when describing swimming options.

    What campers like

Lakefront sites: Many campsites offer direct water access. "Each site in the electric loop has a private path to the waters edge. Sites viewable by map next to water," notes a visitor to Pittsburg Area Campground at Pomme de Terre State Park, located about 90 minutes south of Windsor.

Affordable camping options: The Corps of Engineers sites offer reduced rates for pass holders. "With America the Beautiful Senior pass, cost of site was $10 per night," reports a visitor at Sparrowfoot, which features newly renovated hookups and concrete pads.

Wildlife viewing: The area supports diverse wildlife. "Raccoon have taken over the park... About 40 in my camp the whole week making us scared," warns one camper at Knob Noster State Park, highlighting the importance of proper food storage while camping near Windsor.

    What you should know

Seasonal water conditions: Lake levels fluctuate significantly. "When we were here (July) the lake was pretty muddy but I'm not sure if it's always that way or not. It was also pretty low, but still had plenty of fun and kayaked through all the little coves," explains a visitor at Sparrowfoot.

Limited cell service: Many campgrounds have spotty coverage. "Poor Verizon coverage, TMobile a little better," notes a visitor to Long Shoal Park. Another camper at Berry Bend - Harry S. Truman Lake mentioned having no signal during their stay.

Bathroom facilities vary widely: "Loop B: this is where the shower house and flushable toilets are. Showers were clean and water was hot. Showers had good water pressure," reports one camper at Sparrowfoot, while others noted some parks only offer vault toilets.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground options: Several campgrounds include play areas for children. "Loop B also has the playground which is right behind site B47. It's a newer playground and all equipment was nicely maintained. There are no swings," reports a visitor to Sparrowfoot.

Biking-friendly campgrounds: "Nice level area great for bike riding," notes a visitor to COE Harry S Truman Reservoir Bucksaw Campground, which offers paved roads suitable for children learning to ride.

Kid-friendly swimming areas: Several spots offer shallow water access. "If you walk further around the corner to the right, it turns into a nicer 'beach' style area with few rocks, although the mud can be a little thick after it rains," mentions a visitor describing the swimming area at Sparrowfoot.

    Tips from RVers

Concrete pads at state parks: "Well maintained campground with nice, level concrete pads. Sites are spacious," notes a camper at Knob Noster State Park, adding that most sites are well-spaced with good shade coverage.

Dump station access: "Dump station is about 3 minutes away," reports a Sparrowfoot visitor, indicating that while not all sites have full hookups, facilities remain conveniently located for RVers staying at glamping sites close to Windsor, Missouri.

Hookup locations: "Only negatives were our hookups were literally in the next site next to their table, and their fire ring was very close to our trailer," cautions a visitor to Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA, highlighting the importance of checking site layouts when booking glamping accommodations near Windsor.
