Nice and quiet

Whitten Park campground is located on a peaceful waterway far enough from the highway to feel secluded but not difficult to access. Each site is surrounded by trees. Site 011 had a beautiful view on the water and was completely level. All sites are paved. The bathhouse is no frills but had hot…

Great for families! Trash location is an issue though

The campsites were nice. They clouded full hookups, a picnic table and fire ring. The area was clean and surroundings wooded. Neighboring camping spots were adequately spaced. There were lots of areas for kids to play, including a large playground, a baseball/kickball field and hiking/biking…

Busier than expected

I camped here just one night in May 2021 on a Saturday, I got there at about 3pm and was the first there but by nightfall every site was full. People stayed quiet with the exception of a 12:30am arrival man who walked onto my site right up to my tent to I guess see if anyone was there?? I’m a solo…

Wooded, clean & quiet

We stayed here passing through on a Thursday night. The campground was about half-full. Our site was next to the public beach, but it hadn’t opened for the season yet. The site was clean and tidy, and the view of the river was gorgeous at sunset. An occasional boat with loud exhaust went by before…

Great hidden spot

We’ve frequented this small space since childhood. It’s very well remote off of HWY 30 in the Holly Springs National Forest.

It’s fairly well patrolled by game wardens and the camping spots are well maintained.

Self check in is handled at the permit box upon turning off the highway. Be mindful…

Beautiful place

We stayed one night (4/25/21) at site 78. Our site was on the water and we were able to catch quite a few bream directly in front of us. It seems like the sites which aren’t waterfront are a little more tent friendly, but our tent fit just fine in the gravel area by the picnic table. We used the…

Older, but nice

We only stayed one night, so we did not explore the park too much. Do not use your GPS to get here, it will take you down the road to a house, but the guy must be used to it because he gave us directions without us even having to tell him. The sites are closer together than what I usually see in…

Decent enough for a couple days.

This is very near my home. It's a decent enough area for a day or two but not enough for an extended stay for me personally. Facilities are really only maintained during peak season and even then I've been greeted by dirty showers and restrooms more than once. The swimming area steps are quite…

Planes, Barges, Motor Boats and Paddlers

Our stay at site 82 from 3/12/21-3/14/21 is filled with the sounds of people working and playing. Sites are nicely spaced. During the week, we enjoy watching pilots from the Columbus Air Force Base honing their skills. The barges, more frequent during the day, have the occasional after dark run.…

AWESOME

This is a GREAT campground. We camped in a tent on site 88. Right on the tombigbee.

Barges and Planes

We enjoyed campsite 89 from 3/9/21-3/12/21. We launch and paddle from our site. The walking path is about 3 miles round trip from the the day-use boat ramp and playground to the campground end. Camp hosts are friendly and campsites are well maintained.

Boating, Fishing, and Walking

Our visit (3/6/21-3/9/21) falls during a busy school vacation week. We are on the water at Site 74. The site is small, without trees, and very close to site 73, offering no privacy. Some larger sites have trees, and offer water access. The water along this stretch of the Tombigbee Waterway is very…

A Tombigbee View

Our 3/3/21-3/6/21 stay at Site 60 provides easy access to a fishing pier, walking paths and enjoyable sunsets. Sites are a comfortable size and located with adequate forrest canopy that provides shade for most. We enjoy several afternoon paddles on this stretch of river.

Outside the campground…

The locals like it - and that’s a plus

This is the first campground we have stopped at this week that had more than one other camper. I’d guess they were 70% full.

Most of the folks we met were local, here for a weekend away and outdoors. Lots of families with kids. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming.

The camp host came by just…
