Wildhurst Campgrounds and Lax Lake Resort offer cabin accommodations with varying levels of amenities near Lake Superior. Cabins at Wildhurst provide electric hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings, while Lax Lake Resort features cabins with drinking water and electric hookups. A visitor commented, "We stayed here last June with our large family. My bf and I stayed 2 nights in a cabin and tent camped 2 nights on a camp site." Both locations maintain clean facilities with showers and toilets, though bathroom access varies by property. The Carefree Casita provides a more private cabin experience with toilets and trash service but lacks electric hookups.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Lamb's Resort offers cabin options with water and electric hookups, while Sawbill Lake Campground provides more basic accommodations. Most cabins require advance reservations, especially during summer months from May through October. Pet policies vary by property—Wildhurst Campgrounds and Lamb's Resort allow pets in their cabins, while The Carefree Casita does not. A camper wrote, "I loved my cozy cabin. Its the old creamery on a farm, and is equipped with a futon sleeper, comfy chairs, a sink, picnic table and lawn chairs."

Most cabins include basic furnishings but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities range from simple fire rings with grates to more equipped setups with sinks. Several campgrounds like Wildhurst and Lamb's Resort offer on-site markets for basic provisions. Firewood is available for purchase at most locations. Visitors staying at cabins near Finland and Silver Bay can access additional supplies in these small towns. Cell service can be limited in more remote cabin locations, so downloading maps and information beforehand is advisable.

    Birkie Barn farmstay camper cabin

Great farm stay near Ashland and Apostle Islands

I was in the area for a workshop, but wanted a place "out of town" for a peaceful retreat in the evenings. Tom’s homestead is so welcoming, and I loved my cozy cabin. Its the old creamery on a farm, and is equipped with a futon sleeper, comfy chairs, a sink, picnic table and lawn chairs. Tom also has a Bed and Breakfast on the proerty. Tom is so great to talk to, and his property is an old dairy farm on country land with wildlife ponds and miles of trails you can hike or cross county ski. Great birdwatching everywhere! The whole place is  restful and meditative. My little cabin even had an en suite sauna that I hope to try out next time I come! No bathroom in cabin, but you can go inside the host home, and also use the kitchen and family room there. Ashland is about a 15 minut drive, Bayfield about 30 minute drive. Lovely spot to stay, I’ll be back!

    Great Location and Nice Staff

This is a  private campground that fills up quick.    It is 1 mile from Bayfield town center.  It is close to the ferry dock, restaurants, parks and beaches.  All sites are electric and water and some are full hook up.  There are cabins and tent sites as well.   The office/store is very clean and stocked with things you may need.  8 flavor ice creams on site!  There is a  dump station and picnic tables and fire rings at each site.   There is free wi-fi and a shower house, bathrooms and laundry.

    Kreher RV Park

    Love this place

This is a municipal park, right on the shores of Lake superior. A beautiful little park, with a great playground and a boat launch. Each site has a picnic table fire pit and grill. Water and electric are provided with your $40 a night Lakeside campsite or $35 park campsite. Beautiful grounds very well-kept and very clean! They offer monthly reservations or it is a first come first serve park.

    Silver Rapids Lodge

    Ely, Mn

We stayed here last June with our large family. My bf and I stayed 2 nights in a cabin and tent camped 2 nights on a camp site. This area has great access to many lakes including the BWCA along with being close to Ely for anything you may have forgotten. Silver Rapids Lodge itself has a bar/restaurant right by campground along with many other amenities. Many cabins to choose from from 4-6 ppl all the way up to a 24 person cabin!! Good fishing and lots of areas to do so without a boat, if you don’t have a boat and would like to rent one SRL offers boat rentals. Small swimming area and play place for kids. Pet friendly, clean, and nice hosts.

    Fisherman's Point City Campground

Ranger Review: GRAND TRUNK PARASHEET BEACH BLANKET at Fisherman’s Point Campground Hoyt Lakes, MN

    Campground Review:

****This campground is located on beautiful Whitewater Lake in Hoyt Lakes, MN. The fall colors are absolutely gorgeous right now, and my pictures don’t even come close to doing them justice!! We have lived just 5 miles down the road from this campground for over 20 years, and regret not camping here sooner!! This campground is very family and pet friendly with so many activities to choose from. We spent the bulk of our time hiking the paved trails, and fishing the lake. You can reserve a spot online at http://www.fishermanspointmn.com/ , or it’s a first come first served campground. There were plenty of spots available when we camped there, but recommend reserving during the busy summer months.

There are 93 spacious and wooded sites divided into separate loops. If you are driving a bigger RV or 5th Wheel some corners can be tight, but they are currently upgrading and widening the traffic areas. Some of the campsites are right on the waterfront which was nice for mooring our boat close to us. They have some 50/30/20 amp spots, but none of the spots are a full hook up with dump capabilities. The campground hosts were super friendly and the showerhouses/restrooms were super clean and smelled freshJ There is no bringing in outside wood for campfires, but they have a nice little general store where you can purchase bundles. Each spot comes with a nice picnic table and a fire ring. One of the things we liked most is the shelters and grill pits they have right on the lakeshore. They have 2 separate boat ramp areas so there is no congestion or waiting in line to get in the water, and the fish cleaning house is just a few steps off the boat ramp. Quiet hours are from 11:00pm to 7:00am, but we noticed there is no enforcement of that rule, hence the 4 Star rating.

    Product Review:

As a Ranger for The Dyrt, I have the privilege of receiving products to test from time to time. I tested the PARASHEET Beach Blanket from Grand Trunk. https://www.grandtrunk.com/collections/goods-for-the-campsite/products/parasheet-beach-blanket-new-colors Navigating their website is easy and very user friendly!! The thing I appreciated the most is that they are in constant contact with you from the minute you place the order to when it arrives on your doorstep. The shipping time is super speedy from this company!! All items were packed well, and they included a free can cozy and decal sticker (it went on our 5th Wheel!!)

When I took Parasheet, my first thought was that I would not have used the word blanket in the description, it is so much more!! (on their website they use the sentence “The Best Beach Blanket Ever.” With that being said, the parachute nylon fabric is very lightweight, but super durable. This sheet is a packing/carrying dream!! They have a nice variety of colors available, and I ordered the Parasheet in the color Berry Bronzed. The contrast between the deep blue/tan colors is absolutely stunning!! The one feature I liked right away is that the sheet has it’s own drawcorded carrying/storage bag for easy packing and storing. We had a chance to take the sheet out on a windy day, and the sand pockets helped keep it in place while we staked it down. There are an endless amount of uses for this sheet while camping, and at home too!! (my son of course tested and gave a “thumbs up” on the Superman cape tryout lol) The parasheet stood up very well on different types of terrain (we tested sand, gravel rock, and pine needles) Overall, I think the Grand Trunk Parasheet is well priced at $39.99, and would recommend it to all!!

    Wildhurst Campgrounds

    Quiet, convenient, and friendly

A great campsite just a few minutes from the main highway up the coast of lake superior. There's a bar with a kitchen where you check in to the campsite filled with friendly people, games, and great food. But enough about that, the campsite itself is very private with a spot to park you car, and you are surrounded by trees and bushes for each individual campsite. A fire pit and picnic table can be found at each site. There is potable water, showers, and an outhouse. Ice, firewood, and limited camping supplies are available for purchase at the bar.

Apostle Islands Area RV park and Camping

Perfect destination to camp by kayak

We kayaked to many campgrounds and islands in the national lakeshore. paddling a total of 60 miles we were able to make it to 3 different island campgrounds. Bathrooms and picnic tables were at most camp sites, some camp sites were very desolate and rustic. No running water on some islands.

Apostle Islands Area RV park and Camping

Great woodsy location close to town

Loved this location. 1.5 miles out of Bayfield, yet great outdoorsy feel with decent privacy. Can bike to the brewery or wineries and bike to town. Common area great for corn hole and a meager playground for the kids. Also super close to the gourmet garage bakery. Yum.

Sawbill Lake Campground - Superior National Forest

On the edge of the wild

No joke, this was our family’s first camping trip. We have five kids 10 and under. The sites were clean and large. Some are larger than others. Ours was about 15 feet from the next site but that was through trees.

Plenty of drinking water and bathrooms. Each site has a picnic table and a fire pit with a grate.

The outfitters on site are amazing. Kind and helpful. They have pay showers and all the rentals you need.

We did a day trip and had a blast.

Guide to Beaver Bay

Cabins near Beaver Bay, Minnesota range from basic shelters to fully equipped cottages located within 20 miles of Lake Superior's shoreline. Beaver Bay sits at an elevation of 689 feet with average summer temperatures between 65-75°F and winter temperatures frequently dropping below freezing. Winter cabin rentals typically require advance booking due to limited availability from November through March.

What to do

Hiking trails access: Several cabin accommodations provide direct access to hiking trails around Beaver Bay. At Wildhurst Lodge and Campground, campers note the location's proximity to popular hiking areas. "Within 20 minutes of some great hikes. All in all, decent price point and saved our trip when everything else was full," one visitor remarked.

Lake Superior fishing: Cabins with lake access allow for fishing opportunities. A visitor at Lax Lake Resort shared, "Great views of the lake and very close to hwy 61 to access all the parks. Paid $22 or so night. Super grateful of the staff to accommodate on short notice!"

ATV trail access: Some properties connect directly to ATV trails for off-road enthusiasts. A camper at Wildhurst Lodge and Campground explained, "There is a trail connected at the back of the grounds. There was some noisy riding around, but we were gone hiking most of the day so we barely noticed."

What campers like

Private woodland settings: Many cabin campers appreciate the secluded forest settings. At Eighteen Rustic Lake Campground, a visitor noted, "Lake is clear and looks like very good fishing. Does not have a boat launch. There are three campsites that are decently big and you could fit two-three cars. Has a nice 2 1/2 mile hike around the lake."

On-site amenities: Cabins with added amenities receive positive feedback. A guest at Wildhurst Campgrounds shared, "A great campsite just a few minutes from the main highway up the coast of lake superior. There's a bar with a kitchen where you check in to the campsite filled with friendly people, games, and great food."

Proximity to attractions: Cabins located near North Shore attractions are particularly valued. One camper noted, "A group of 4 of us planned a fall colors camping trip, hoping to snag a state forest campsite. Unsurprisingly, on a friday afternoon most of those campgrounds are packed during peak fall color."

What you should know

Seasonal availability: Most cabin rentals have limited seasonal operation. Sawbill Lake Campground operates from "April 28 to October 27" according to their information, with a camper adding, "With the Sawbill Canoe Outfitters located on the campground, there is a small convenience store supplied with food, clothing, souvenirs, camping supplies, etc."

Bathroom facilities vary: Toilet facilities range from indoor bathrooms to vault toilets. A visitor reported, "The shower cost $4 or $4.50 if you needed to rent a towel. The showers are very clean, but the water temperature is difficult to control (either hot or cold)."

Road conditions: Access roads to some cabins can be challenging in certain weather. A camper at Eighteen Rustic Lake Campground mentioned, "Road coming to the campground can be rough in places, but doable with passenger car. The campground itself was nothing special, but camping in the woods along a beautiful lake was appealing."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Some cabin properties include playground facilities for children. A visitor to Lamb's Resort shared, "The playground had enough equipment to keep our children busy with plenty to do while we prepared meals."

Beach activities: Lakefront cabins offer water activities for families. Another Lamb's Resort guest noted, "The smooth pebble beach is fantastic. Our dogs loved running up and down the beach and playing on the shore."

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Several cabin locations provide wildlife viewing chances. A camper wrote, "We had a wonderful time at Lamb's Resort on our way back from Thunder Bay! The owners were available for questions and our site was perfect! We stayed at site 49, which was a short walk to the beach."

Tips from RVers

Site dimensions: RV sites with cabins vary in size and accommodations. At Penmarallter Campsite, a visitor noted, "You can save $5 a night if you only need 30-Amp electric and water. Some shade but mostly sunny pull through camp sites worked well in the cool Minnesota evenings."

Hookup options: RVers should check what utilities are available. A camper mentioned, "Super sweet kind owners. Facilities are nice. If there was laundry available, it would be five stars."

Seasonal considerations: Weather affects RV cabin camping experience significantly. A visitor stated, "Well maintained and clean site. Owners were friendly," highlighting the importance of maintenance during different seasons.
