    Holiday RV Campground

    Nice Park

Nice park for full timers. Large spots to accommodate big rigs and kids. Full hook ups. Cell service great with Verizon hotspot (22u, 20d, 38ms and AT&T cell(27d, 20u, 27ms). Playgrounds everywhere for the kids. Giant dog park and ponds. Pool was closed. Just needs more grass. Our spot was really patchy and resulted in a lot of mud.

Great campground with polite and helpful staff. Don’t pass this one up.

    Shipshewana North Park Campground

Nice campground in a convenient location

We were passing through and decided to stop for frozen custard at the stand right next to the campground. The first review for this place did not seem very inviting but a more recent one was a little more positive. After checking it out, I thought it could use a little reinforcement of the positives! I’m not sure if there have been new owners since the first review but I received a very friendly greeting, and the office is open from 9 am– 8 pm and clearly marked as the place to check-in.

There are many options here: back-in or pull-thru tent sites, w/e sites, full hook-up sites, camper cabins, and fully equipped cabins. The campsites range from $32-$46 per night and the cabins range from $69-$144 per night. Sites 47-52 are close to the road so you will hear road noise, but Sites 11-35 are farther from the road and are more shaded. The layout is RV park style but there is reasonable separation between the sites.

The restrooms have a code for entry, and I did not see the inside of these.

    Amenities include:

    - a community fire pit

    -  game room with television

    - guest laundry

    - dump station

    - gift shop

    - pet friendly options

     -WiFi

    - There is, of course, an ice cream/frozen custard stand that I dare you to resist.

While we would not consider it a destination, we would definitely consider camping here en route – the price is reasonable, and the staff is friendly and welcoming.

    Twin Mills Camping Resort

    Beautiful Wooded Campground

Twin Mills is a really beautiful and quiet RV Campground, with tall trees in Northern Indiana. We frequent this location when getting RV Repairs and visiting Elkhart, the birth place of most RVs.

There are cabins and tent sites and a large lake access point with a beach area. The playgrounds seemed to be in good shape and the dumpsters were centrally located.

The park has a gate entrance for security.

There is a large pool area and basketball court.

There are several sections in the park, some more wooded and narrow sites, some are more spread out.

Cellular: T-Mobile had good signal strength and bandwidth, AT&T was not as good but still doable.

Most of the sites are full hook up, some have 30amp and some have 50amp.

Amenities: Pool Clubhouse Basketball Volleyball Picnic tables Fire rings Trash Playground Lake access Beach area Dock Cabins Tent sites

    Ted Ranch Campground

No thrills, largely rustic, family oriented, friendly

This campground is pretty rustic with water and electricity at some sites, no showers or restrooms, a dump station for one at a time, Porta potties scattered around, small beach, small boat launch, mostly appears to be seasonal sites without sewer or rustic sites. Some but not a lot of shade, rolling fields being made into smaller sized sites. Dogs and dogs pens are allowed, and they do not appear to have parents who are attentive or keep them from barking. Friendly staff and family of four owners.

    Markin Glen County Park

    Modern Campground Close to Downtown

This is a modern campground with full hook-ups and cement parking areas. It is a newer campground, so there is not an old-growth canopy shading the sites. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring. Some sites are pull-throughs. Tent camping is allowed, but most campers have RVs.

There is a bath house with good showers.

The park also has a lake with a beach, although I have never been in it.

This campground has a great location for people who want to visit Kalamazoo. One downside is that there are train tracks that run near the campground and sometimes the engines idle for extended periods at night.

    Harrison Lake State Park Campground

    Quiet place to get away

We have been here a few times. Really enjoy the secluded sites and the lake. It’s a small campground but it’s clean and quiet. Most sites don’t have water hookups but they do have electric. There isn’t much to do outside of the campground but there is a nice lake with canoe and kayak rentals. Very pet friendly and even has a dog beach.

    Oaks Campgrounds

    Nice for the Night

Friendly staff. Camp store in office. Pull through full hook up site. Seemed to be more of a permanent campground but everyone was friendly. The campground hosted activities such as a potluck and dj dance party at the pavilion.

Bruin Lake Campground — Pinckney Recreation Area

    Bruin Lake Campground

Wonderful place even when it’s packed. Harder to get reservations over the years but always a great place to stay. Awesome bathrooms newly renovated. Nice spots. Mostly paved in the lower sites. Nice swimming area however no beach sand. Just a grassy area. Public boat launch on Bruin lake. Bruin lake connects to a few more lakes creating a nice chain of lakes. Half moon at the end of the chain is a great all sports lake. Awesome fishing. Sites have electric, no water. There is a dump station. Wood and ice available for purchase and a few vending machines. Nice hiking trails. They do have a few hike in yurts and hike in camping sites. Decent parking places for those hike ins.

Guide to Litchfield

Litchfield is situated in the glacial plains of southern Michigan with numerous kettle lakes and rolling terrain. The area sits at about 1,050 feet elevation with a humid continental climate that brings warm summers and cold, snowy winters. Camping options around Litchfield range from family-oriented RV parks to more rustic settings, with most campgrounds closing for winter between October and April.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Several campgrounds offer fishing access, with Holiday RV Campground in Grass Lake featuring multiple fishing ponds. "Giant dog park and ponds" are available for guests according to Sean N., who also noted excellent cell service with "Verizon hotspot (22u, 20d, 38ms) and AT&T cell (27d, 20u, 27ms)."

Amish country exploration: Twin Mills Camping Resort serves as a convenient base for visiting nearby Shipshewana. "Shipshewana is a ten minute drive and has lots to offer including a huge flea market (check dates)," mentions Melissa V., who enjoyed camping there despite the Memorial Day crowds.

Swimming options: Beyond standard pools, Harbor Cove RV Resort offers natural water recreation. Kevin C. notes the facility has "no pool but there is a small pond to swim in and a lake as well," making it a good alternative to chlorinated swimming.

Mini-golf and recreation: Apple Creek Campground & RV Park provides various activities including putt-putt golf. Ryan M. mentions "plenty of activities for the kids including an ice cream sundae bar ($3/person), foam party, hay ride, candy bingo, basketball court, putt-putt (although it appeared to be outdated), and a swimming pool."

What campers like

Quiet atmosphere: Many campers appreciate the peaceful settings at smaller campgrounds near Litchfield. At Hideaway RV Park, Jennifer C. describes it as "Small yet mostly quiet local camp. It's away from all of the daily hoopla but close to towns if you need things," though she notes "never ending traffic noise from the expressway" as a downside.

Spacious sites: Several RV parks Litchfield campers frequent offer larger than average camping spots. Curt called Hideaway RV Park "a diamond in the rough" with "very spacious sites, all of which are full hookups for a very reasonable price."

Family activities: Camp Turkeyville RV Resort stands out for its family-friendly environment. Lydia T. describes it as a "Family campground with restaurant, gift shop, camp store, ice cream parlor, and heated pool," adding "there are 127 sites all of them have a firepit and electric hook up and cement pad."

Shaded campsites: Mature trees provide relief from summer heat at several campgrounds. At Apple Creek, Robyn H. appreciated that this is "a well kept campground that has lots of trees (shady sites) and some nice amenities for kids," noting "nice walking/hiking trails connected right to the property."

What you should know

Seasonal operation: Most RV parks near Litchfield operate from April/May through October/November. Moscow Maples RV Park runs May 1 to October 15, while Lighthouse Village RV Resort operates April 15 to October 15, with Camp Turkeyville being the main year-round option.

Site surfaces: Campsite ground conditions vary significantly among parks. At Apple Creek, Robyn H. reported "most of the sites around us were sandy dirt with very little to no grass," which can become muddy during rain.

Reservation systems: Some campgrounds have outdated booking processes. At Holiday RV Campground, Handsome D. had a frustrating experience: "After confirming and paying in full for my site they forgot to post my site information which left me stranded in the pouring rain."

Electrical reliability: Power issues can occur at some facilities. At Harbor Cove RV Resort, John M. shared a challenging experience: "We had to keep hitting the Circuit Breaker every 5-10 minutes... They even had the City come out to see why, and it was because their system was poorly set up."

Tips for camping with families

Playground assessment: When booking, check which campgrounds have updated play equipment. At Apple Creek, Ryan M. noted good facilities for children: "There were plenty of activities for the kids including an ice cream sundae bar ($3/person), foam party, hay ride, candy bingo, basketball court."

Weekend activities: Moscow Maples RV Park and other local campgrounds offer structured weekend programming. Brenda L. described Moscow Maples as "a smaller campground with some full timers or seasonal campers" with amenities including "a pool and a playground."

Age-appropriate options: Match your campground to your children's interests. William D. appreciated that Apple Creek has "great owners that care about the camping experience and provide activities on the weekend for the kids."

Security features: Some campgrounds offer enhanced security measures. Twin Mills Camping Resort has "a gate entrance for security" according to Laura H., who also noted "cabins and tent sites and a large lake access point with a beach area."

Tips from RVers

Hookup variations: Full-hookup availability differs between campgrounds. At Lighthouse Village RV Resort, Lisa D. advises: "If you want the best sites, forego the 'full hookup', pay less for the best and closest view of Lake Huron."

Pull-through accessibility: Several RV parks Litchfield visitors use offer easy-access sites. Wendy F. at Hideaway RV Park appreciated her "pull thru spot, super easy to get to, full hookup" and that "spots had plenty of room, some had grass others had concrete."

Seasonal limitations: Winter camping near Litchfield is extremely limited. Only Camp Turkeyville operates year-round, while most parks like Harbor Cove RV Resort (May 1 to October 31) and Heartland Woods Family Resort (May 15 to October 31) close for winter.

Electrical capacity: RVers should verify amp service before booking. Eric C. stayed at Camp Turkeyville "during COVID and not all amenities were allowed to be open at the time. However, nice park with friendly staff and good size lots."
