Best Dog-Friendly Camping near West Springfield Town, MA

Northampton / Springfield KOA accepts pets at all accommodation types including tent sites, RV spots, cabins, and glamping options. The campground offers a range of amenities for both pets and their owners, with water and electric hookups available at most sites. Sites are situated close together with limited privacy, though the wooded sections provide more separation between campers. Some visitors note that while the campground features activities for children including weekend fire engine rides, a playground, and seasonal events, the facilities are somewhat dated. ['The bathrooms occasionally receive mixed reviews for cleanliness, with one guest mentioning the men's room was in poor condition during their stay.'] Dogs must be leashed while on the property, and owners are expected to clean up after their pets.

Black Rabbit Farm permits pets at its three tent and RV sites located in a serene natural setting. Campers with dogs appreciate the peaceful atmosphere where stars twinkle and fireflies dance in the vineyard and meadows during summer evenings. The property features basic amenities including drinking water, picnic tables, toilets, and fire pits with firewood available for purchase. Unlike many commercial campgrounds, Black Rabbit Farm maintains a quiet atmosphere ideal for campers seeking a more natural experience with their pets. Prospect Mountain Campground and RV Park also welcomes dogs and offers more extensive facilities including a pond for fishing, swimming pool, and playground areas. The campground maintains clean, well-raked sites with friendly staff available to assist campers and their pets. The grounds are heavily wooded, providing natural shade and increasing privacy between sites once trees leaf out in spring. Both campgrounds enforce standard pet policies requiring dogs to remain leashed when outside and owners to promptly clean up waste.

    Cozy Hills Campground

    Very nice campground however…

We have enjoyed our stay. Nice campground with lots of activities and things to do. However, we picked this place because it has an enclosed dog park. It does have an enclosed dog park but the fence is only 3 feet high. While this might be fine for some dogs, I have 2 young border collies that will jump that fence like it is not even there.

    Waters Edge Family Campground

    Incredible campground

Most amazing weekend with tons of woods (privacy is huge for us). Very friendly guests and staff! Amazing weekend with lots of fun for the kids and even the dogs! We’ve been to campgrounds with playgrounds worse than the waters edge dog park. Every one of us had a great time with the perfect campsite deep in the woods (still able to park my 26’ camper trailer). Swimming pool, great playground, among lots of trails and wooded area surrounding almost every site. Best camping weekends we’ve ever had have been at Waters Edge.

    Wilderness Lake Park

    Really enjoyed our time here

Quaint little campground. Not many tenting sites but along a beautiful lake. Pets allowed. Bathrooms close by 10, something to keep in mind. And they’re cash or check only! Taylor Pond is not far and a great hike to bring both kids and pets. This campground was perfect for us and our dog. Bring your own kayaks or use the campgrounds free of charge.

    Spacious Skies Woodland Hills

    A peaceful place with character.

My first visit to New York state was amazing, largely in part due to my campsite at the Woodland Hills campground. I had a back in site and was having problems with my camper, and they were able to change to a pull through at time of check in. However, it was in early May and before the summer crowds. The pond has a fountain which sounds like a small waterfall at night, and wildflowers were in bloom. Very nice bathrooms and showers, and my dog loved the dog park.

    Pine Acres Family Camping Resort

Great spot in the middle of nowhere

Miles and miles of country/forests surrounding pine acres, however pulling in you’ll soon realize how much goes on inside the campground. AWESOME pools (very kid friendly), parks, dog park, hiking trails and even sections off of the trails to find your own private beach on the water. Went there in a tent rather than our camper, which turned out to be better. Tent sites were very dispersed and way up on the top of the mountain. Camper sites seemed a little close but worth the sacrifice due to the incredible environment. On the more expensive side but worth the money if you have kids. Another big plus was the abundance of wood to get from fallen trees (not having to pay for the expensive bundles at the store) and the size of the fire pits

    Thousand Trails Sturbridge

Nice, yet cramped and no cell reception

I really wanted to like this place. It's in a very cool area that I didn't expect to be so awesome. First main issue was how bad the cell reception is. Normally, I'd day that's a perk for camping but we're full-timers and work on the road so it is important for us. Next, the place is massive and they are more about make money than making people comfortable. What could easily be a very nice and spacious pull-thru spot are 2 back to back back-ins. Unless you're lucky enough to get an end spot, those are pull-thru. Pros: awesome dog park, great office with laundry, activities, arcades, adult only room, community campfire, indoor pool with lifeguard, the staff is nice, there's a lake for swimming, boating, catch and release fishing. Their basketball court is on a shuffleboard court, playground is nice though. Close to Old Sturbridge Village and many cool hikes and MA cities.

    Bowdish Lake Camping Area

Wow! Beware of all the extra charges and filthy facilities

Bowdish Lake Camping Area is the worst campground we have ever been to and we travel fulltime! Their website states: $1,800-$3,600 per season (look for yourself on their website if you don’t believe me). We get there after reserving site Blue 65. They then charged us $3,900. Why? We have no idea! Then they charged us an additional $75.00 for our truck. Why I don’t know? Then they charged us an additional $50.00 for having our own kayak. Then they charged us an additional $50.00 for a small dog, $100.00 for large dogs (by the way they have no dog park). Then they charged us an additional $100.00 for cable. Then they charged us an additional .50 cents per kWh ( which cost us an average of$250.00 extra per month). The public facilities are filthy. They do not supply any toilet paper, hand soaps, hot water, etc. They charge you an additional charge by coin operated showers (cold water only) that are crawling with spiders, bugs and cobwebs.

    Douglas Forest RV Resort

    Awesome Campground In The Forest

We had an incredible stay at Douglas Forest RV Resort! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by how peaceful and well-maintained everything was. The RV sites are spacious and easy to navigate, with full hookups and strong Wi-Fi— a big plus for us since we work remotely on the road. What really sets this place apart is the location. You’re literally steps away from Douglas State Forest, which made morning hikes and evening strolls absolutely magical. It’s pet-friendly too, and our dog loved the wooded trails and open areas. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the camp store had everything we needed. Even though the recreation area is still being built, the amenities already in place more than made up for it. We’re already planning our next trip for summer when the pool opens! If you’re looking for a relaxing spot that blends nature with convenience, look no further. Douglas Forest RV Resort is a true hidden gem!

Guide to West Springfield Town

Camping near West Springfield Town offers both remote state forest experiences and private campgrounds with amenities. Located in the western Massachusetts region at around 200 feet above sea level, this area features a mix of deciduous forests and river valleys. The region sees four distinct seasons with warm summers and cold, snowy winters that affect camping conditions throughout the year.

What to do

Kayaking and fishing access: At Wilderness Lake Campground, visitors can enjoy water recreation without bringing their own equipment. "They even had free kayaks/canoes for the lake," notes Rob L., who appreciated the convenience of on-site watercraft.

Hiking local trails: The trail system at Austin Hawes Memorial Campground connects to larger networks in the American Legion State Forest. One camper mentions, "If you like nice big private sites, peace and quiet while providing a great location for fishing and hiking (Henry Buck Trail) then this is your kind of place."

Seasonal activities: Fall brings special events at many campgrounds. Jason A. from Northampton/Springfield KOA shared: "We went to this campground during fall foliage time. Very peaceful and very great staff. They had hayless rides and fire truck rides. This time they had a haunted house walk through."

What campers like

Privacy between sites: Site selection matters at Prospect Mountain Campground. Dawn E. explains, "It looked like the sites were close together, but I was there before there were leaves on the trees and could see how there would be more privacy once they filled out."

Evening nature viewing: Black Rabbit Farm offers a unique nighttime experience. Steve W. describes it perfectly: "I stayed here last weekend and had a great night watching the stars twinkle and the fireflies dance in the vineyard and meadows."

Water features: Multiple recreation options at The Quarry Campground received praise from Brittany V., who noted "2 separate ponds: one for fishing, one for swimming; large outdoor games; Rec hall with video games, 50¢ pool table, live music; volleyball; boat rentals; and even a baseball diamond!"

What you should know

Campground terrain: Granville State Forest has important site differences. One camper warns, "Best not to book them unless you want to get to know your neighbors. I can't speak to the other sites." Another visitor specifically recommends "Camp site No. 11. Def the best campsite in the area very secluded in comparison to the other sites available."

Facilities maintenance: Bathroom quality varies between locations. Missi N. at Northampton/Springfield KOA reports "clean and modern bathrooms and showers," contrasting with variable reviews at other properties.

Site types: Partridge Hollow Campground offers a quieter experience according to Dave who states: "This is a fantastic campground that is quiet for those looking to relax. The staff is friendly and helpful."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Sandra S. recommends Prospect Mountain Campground, saying "Prospects mountain is a great campground for families with younger kids. They have activities every weekend such as dances, bingo, hayrides. They also have a great pool, playground and pond for fishing."

Entertainment options: Sunset View Farms provides activities even during bad weather. Jarrett F. mentions "Great location kids had a blast just wished they had more activities for them to do for the weekend we stay it poured everyday and they only had one craft and then an arcade to entertain them."

Safety considerations: Several dog friendly campgrounds near West Springfield Town have varying rules about pets. Austin Hawes is one of the few campgrounds in Connecticut that welcomes pets but Katherine P. warns: "In the summer, this place is mosquito central, so bring lots of bug spray or be eaten alive!"

Tips from RVers

Site access challenges: Larger rigs may find some campgrounds difficult to navigate. Nancy at Partridge Hollow notes: "The way in is very twisty and hilly. Was a challenge for our 33' towing a car but we made it!"

Hookup availability: Full hookups are sometimes limited. At The Quarry, Brittany V. shares, "They advertise full hu but turns out to be a lie when you pull in… all full hi is given to seasonal customers. We did receive a pull thru with 50/30/20 and water."

Pet-friendly options: For those seeking pet-friendly camping near West Springfield Town, Wilderness Lake Park accommodates dogs with specific areas. Kailie G. states "This campground was perfect for us and our dog. Bring your own kayaks or use the campgrounds free of charge."
