    Bogue Chitto State Park Campground

    Spot 124 is great!

We stayed at site 124 in “Bottomland” and we loved it. New “deck” with room for a rug, fire pit, and chairs. The deck also has a picnic table with a fire pit just off the edge. There’s a creek that ran behind the spot that kept my husband busy. The only downside is that the water and electricity plug are pretty far from your camper- you may need to pack your extender.

    Keesler AFB FamCamp

    Small spaces and disappointing experience

We reserved 4 months ago, only to get there and find out there may be an issue with our dogs (2 max and we have 3...well behaved dachshunds. When we reserved, they "penciled us in". No deposit and no information, other than our name and dates. Got there for our reservation and told that we cant have three dogs there and either have to board one or leave. When i said we had nowhere to go, they were willing to let us stay one night so we could find other accomodations for the next few days, but after that warm welcome, even one night was not an option. Never were we told pets would be an issue, we never got a confirmation email that mentioned pets, and then to arrive and find out we had to find somewhere else to stay was disappointing to say the least. We were able to stay the night at Shield, so we went over there to work on our plans for the next few days. So glad we did, as the sites were much larger, much more private and the office staff was very accomadating with our last minute reservation. Apparently Keesler is adding sites, so it may be better next year, but currently the sites are close together with a fire pit in the center. For the hour we did sit in our site, we had to keep the windows closed because of the smoke. Another issue...the drive in was sketchy for a high profile 5th wheel, with low hanging trees and narrow streets. Lastly, for those lookong for the security and conveniences of staying at a famcamp, this fam camp is off base.

    Bayou Segnette State Park Campground

    Dirty bathrooms/site

I wanted to give this place a good review but…Site was dirty with cigarette butts and the grill was not cleaned out in what looked like a long time. Fire pit was still smoldering. Bathrooms were out of toilet paper and soap. Told the receptionist at the front gate. It was still not restocked. Bathrooms were dirty and very moldy shower curtains. Looks like it was once a nice place but not anymore. Needs some updating and someone needs to take some pride in their job and at least clean and restock the bathrooms

    Land-O-Pines Family Campground

    Pleasant campground

Land-O-Pines is a nice private RV park near Folsom and Covington. We stayed two nights because my daughter was in a horse competition at a nearby horse farm. The sites are mostly shady. The streets and sites are gravel and can get a little muddy in spots after a rain. The park was clean and quiet, and the staff was friendly. About half the sites are for permanent users.

Stayed in pull-through campsite C69 which was shady and level. It was a gravel site. There was enough parking for my 34 ft TT and truck. Neighbors are nearby by not on top of you. The site included: picnic table on gravel, no fire ring. Utilities: 20/50A electric near the middle. The 20A receptacle looked like it had some minor burn marks. Water next to power pole, good pressure. Sewer near power pole with 4 non screw-on fitting.

AT&T had 2 bars of LTE and Verizon full bars of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest: 30.8 Mbps down, 3.6 Mbps up. Verizon Speedtest: 4.5 Mbps down, 11.8 Mbps up. WiFi available, but did not use. Required a login.

Would stay here again. We camped at Land-O-Pines Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

    Looks like a blast!

Traveling through for the night. Just a few minutes from the interstate. Spacious sites. Friendly staff. They are upgrading many things in the park like electric, location of setups, etc. Has fishing and more. This park looks like a blast to come to on holidays for the family. They already have Christmas decorations up, a train ride ready and more! No doubt a great place to bring the family. Will stop by next time through. Hope it's when festivities are going.

New Orleans RV Resort & Marina

    Interesting location, a hidden gem.

The biggest drawbacks are the drive up and the ... Flight for life? Helicopter that keeps passing over. The amenities are top notch, the sites are great. The price is a premium, but it's legit. We wanted a presidential site for its private hot tub, but apparently the one available isn't free for our duration. We got one next to it and it shares the excellent Waterfront view. The communal pool and hot tub are great to relax in after our long drive in. Looking forward to exploring the city which is right down the road.

    New Orleans West KOA

    Tight spaces, good location

The spaces are a bit tight, only RV spots have a fire pit. Showers are well kept but the place smells musty. The location can’t be beat and the employees are great. Very safe area and convenient shopping places nearby. Short drive to downtown. Good Wi-Fi, good laundry and dish cleaning area. Would stay again but I wish the small camper area would be more spaced out and have fire pits or grills. Nice little playground and the pool looked good as well.

    Hidden Oaks Family Campground

    Fun family campground

this campground has been around for a long time.  It has great festive activities for the seasonal holidays and a general laid back mind set year round.  Halloween decorations were in full effect.  The campground has a river running through it making it a great option to go up river and kayak back down.

The campground is split into 2 sides - primitive and RV.  A general store sits in the middle for any necessities.  We setup our tent area in the primitive area near the river/beach area.  It has many trails to walk through, open areas for activities, bath houses, and more.

Three Oaks & A Pine RV Park

    Convenient location and basic amenities

About 30 back in gravel slots, the neighborhood is not very scenic but it’s a good location right off I-10 and 15 minutes to the French Quarter. I’m a single female traveler and I did not feel unsafe. It has showers, laundry (though a few machines don’t work), a coded gate that closes at 8pm, and a nifty human size chess set. The prices seem to change by season and during events so call in. It is by a train depot, so there is considerable noise. There’s a snow ball stand going south on Chef Hwy on the right that is worth the excursion though I promise 😂

Guide to Slidell

Camping near Slidell offers diverse options ranging from primitive tent sites to modernized RV accommodations within 45 minutes of town. The area sits at just 3-13 feet above sea level with subtropical weather patterns that bring year-round humidity and temperatures ranging from 45°F in winter months to over 90°F during summer. Mosquitoes remain active throughout most seasons except during occasional winter cold snaps.

What to do

River access activities: McLeod Park Campground provides water recreation opportunities along the Jourdan River. "We walked the nature trail and enjoyed the river views from our campsite," notes one camper who visited in mid-October. The campground features a playground, splash pad, and river access with a boat launch.

Wildlife viewing: Bogue Chitto State Park Campground offers extensive wildlife viewing opportunities throughout its trail system. "We saw plenty of wildlife such as turkey, deer, rabbits, turtles, alligators and birds. Plenty of trails for hiking and biking," reports a recent visitor. The river provides a swimming area during summer months.

Water recreation: Bayou access remains available year-round at multiple campgrounds. Visitors to most water-adjacent sites should be aware of alligator presence. "Literally, don't feed the gators. There were signs everywhere... When my hubby rustled a bag, several alligators swam right up to our site!" explains one camper about their lakeside experience.

What campers like

Convenient NOLA access: New Orleans RV Resort & Marina provides urban access with natural surroundings. "Great RV resort and Marina. Right on the canal waterway and only 10 minutes in good traffic to the French Quarter, 20 to the Garden District and zoo," explains one visitor. The resort features freshly paved sites and an on-premises restaurant.

Budget-friendly options: Three Oaks & A Pine RV Park offers affordability when visiting New Orleans. "You're paying roughly $30 a night to be about ten minutes by car from the French Quarter. It's a $8 Uber ride in non peak times," shares one visitor. The campground includes full hookups despite its modest setting.

Swimming facilities: Land-O-Pines Family Campground provides swimming opportunities for families. "There is a lot of fun things to do for the whole family, from swimming, water slide to playing bingo and a lot more," notes a visitor. The campground maintains water recreation options despite its older facilities.

What you should know

Site conditions vary significantly: Spacing and maintenance differ widely between campgrounds. "Beautiful campground, boat launch and water access are nice, but the most crowded park we have been to! You're VERY close to your neighbors and there is little room for parking," explains one visitor about McLeod Park.

Seasonal pests: Humidity brings mosquitoes and other insects, particularly after rainfall. One summer camper notes: "The roaches THE ROACHES WERE HORRIBLE. Especially at night as soon as you'd open up the door they were flying EVERYWHERE, we camped in August."

Access routes: Some campgrounds have challenging access roads. For New Orleans West KOA, a visitor explains, "As stated in other reviews this KOA is close to town and very convenient. But it's noisy. Traffic, trains, airplanes and construction noise, you've got it all here. Bring earplugs if you're tent camping."

Tips for camping with families

Yurt camping options: Yurt camping near Slidell, Louisiana provides solid shelter with camping convenience. Bayou Segnette State Park Campground features yurt accommodations alongside traditional camping. "The bathrooms were kept clean. The campground was nice," notes one visitor about the facilities.

Activity planning: Scheduled events enhance family experiences at certain campgrounds. At Hidden Oaks Family Campground, "This park looks like a blast to come to on holidays for the family. They already have Christmas decorations up, a train ride ready and more!" observed one off-season visitor.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Premium waterfront sites book quickly at most campgrounds. "We picked a deluxe waterside plot which was opposite one of the spare moored up river steam boats," notes a visitor to New Orleans RV Resort & Marina.

Leveling requirements: Be prepared with leveling blocks at certain campgrounds. At Hidden Oaks Family Campground, a visitor mentions the campsite "was quite muddy due to the large amount of rain recently. Took 2 blocks to level off."
