    Still Waters Campground

    Wonderfully beautiful, peaceful, and friendly

This campground is located at the mouth of the Elkhorn Creek and Kentucky River. It is extremely popular among locals who want to sit in an tube float and float down the creek to the Kentucky River, a trip that takes approximately 3 to 4 hours. Note you have to bring your own tube. Nearly all of the campsites are spacious and have grass. You can park next to your campsite. The campground is very clean, full of trees and shade, and the lawn is well manicured. On weekends you can find campers playing corn hole and karaoke. Food trucks occasionally set up on weekends. Due to the location, only Verizon and Visible cell phone users have service. There is no local Internet. There are two dump stations for RVs. There is also a hiking trail to the top of a nearby mountain. The view of the Kentucky river is magical. The office is open Wednesday thru Sunday. Use of ground mats are frowned upon as they kill the grass at the campsite but are tolerated for long term campers. They have assorted types of camping sites, including: primitive, water and electric, and full hookup. They also offer daily, weekly, weekend, seasonal, and monthly rates. The public restrooms have no heat and are closed when the weather gets cold.

Cummins Ferry RV Park, Campground on the Kentucky River

Great park next to the river

This is a small well maintained campground right on the Kentucky river. It is down in a hollow which makes it secluded and quiet. There is a dock and a boat ramp. The customer service is exceptional. Under new management since November, they are making some very nice upgrades. 30/50 amp full hook ups with a number of pull throughs. The sites next to the river are level and easy to back into. There is a pavilion and a pool. It is about 30 minutes from Lexington and about 8 miles to the closest town. The one lane road coming in might give you the willies but it is worth it. They have 5 WiFi connections making this some of the best campground WiFi I have ever had. This is a lovely spot with nice amenities.

    Louisville South KOA

Close to Louisville and Bourbon Tours

The Louisville South KOA is approximately 25 miles south of downtown Louisville in Shepardsville, KY. The location is easy to find off the exit of 65(which also has a Walmart and other stores nearby to resupply).

The campground has both pull through gravel sites, back-in, and tent sites. The sites were close to each other but provided plenty of space for the average sized rig. Many were longer than other KOAs, which enabled the tow vehicle and TT to be parked. Full hook-ups and 30/50 amp services at the sites, some leveling required. The campground store is well stocked and the employees are very friendly.

There is a pool(no hot tub-filled in with stones), play/game area, bounce pillow, and 2 miles of hiking trails around the campground. While the campground was nice, there is a lot of“stuff”(old broken trailers, mowers, etc) laying around the edges and in need of mowing between the sites. These items tend to take away from the overall welcoming feeling of the campground.

This being said, the wifi was strong and it is very convenient to sightseeing around Nashville, especially for the price of$54 per night.

Small park restrooms and showers. Very clean. Nice pool. Camp store offers basics. Fairly close to shopping groceries etc. staff was friendly 30/50 amp service didn’t count the number of river view sites. But quite a few. Some sites have 20 X 12 elevated decks. Full hook ups. Pet friendly. Was very quiet the week we stayed. Didn’t feel like bringing the camper home so payed for another week and drive back the following week. Cell service. Isn’t the best WiFi was available if I remember. Correctly rates were reasonable

    Two Rivers Campground

    Very Nice!

Two Rivers is a fairly new, city run campground close to I-71 and adjacent to the Ohio and Kentucky Rivers. All sites are FHU, about half of them are pull-through and all are on level pads for the rig with adjoining concrete pads with picnic tables. There is a playground for kids, a very nice bathhouse and free WiFi. We’ve stayed here on our way to and from Nashville and are doing so again this year. Can’t recommend enough!

    Still Waters Campground

Great for long term or seasonal

Lots of run down RV’s and shanty town in the back of the park. More long term renters than weekend warriors. One dump station, no sewage on the sites. One bathroom, for the whole Park. lots of tents sites (that were busy) makes for poor bathrooms. Not to mention its outhouse style with no climate control. 1/3 men’s bathrooms were out of order and 1/3 urinals were too. 2/3 showers where out of order and the two useable toilets, the door locks were broken. No wifi. Fires are allowed. Fire pits are run down so be mindful. 2/5 bars for ATT services. Sites aren’t labeled or labeled extremely bad. Electrical seems very out dated. Make sure you have protection. Over priced at $60 + tax for the night. Scattered shade. Pull through sites mainly. Picnic tables have seen better days (years more like it). Good space between sites and access to the river for water sports. Little lake for fishing. No pet area and strict leash laws. I wanna give this a 2/5 because they were pleasant. They encouraged me to review on multiple sites but I think that would be bad for them so I’ll stick to my main review site. 1/5, if the price was better like 30-40/night maybe 2/5 but for the price of a motel 6 and only electrical and that is sketchy. Save your money book elsewhere or avoid.

    Camp Carlson Army RV Park

    Small quiet dispersed

Very quiet. Two fenced dog runs that were slightly overgrown when we first arrived but were cut when the rain allowed. Paved roads throughout but very few paved sights. WIFI and cell service very limited would advise a antenna for long term. Office personnel were extremely helpful and understanding. I had truck problems and it extended our stay so I just had to move trailer to different site. Ft Knox is just a few miles away.

Overall this is a great FamCamp. Will definitely stay again.

    Pioneer Playhouse Campground

This is all about the theater...not the camping

This place has some fascinating history and a unique outdoor summer stock theater experience. The oldest outdoor theater in Kentucky with 5 productions running through the summer months. Definitely a good time and casual dining evening with stories of many famous faces that have graced the stage: John Travolta, Lee Majors, Jim Varney...to name a few. The campground has 35 sites with little elbow room; all have electric(30 amp) and water, gravel/grass pads, shower facilities and bathrooms, and they do have a"rustic" dump station. Many of the sites seem to have long term tenants...so this is best for a one night stop and a show. The town of Danville has what you need for supplies and dining, loads of historical sites in the area and of course there is a Bourbon Distillery that must make the list of activities. pioneerplayhouse.com/visit-us/campground/

    LockRidge Park

    A Diamond in the Rough

This is a true gem and one not to be missed. Unfortunately, our stay was limited to one night, however, we will definitely be returning to take advantage of the many amenities included. Full hookups, laundry, bath house, general store, tastefully designed accommodations, activities, and even an outdoor theatre; everything you need for an enjoyable long-term stay. The Site was quite large and accommodated our 24 ft rig and truck, and FH, which were very clean and well placed. Our site also provided partial shade, which in the warmer months would be very beneficial. Not to mention, the beautiful views with a lovely trail and lookout over Dix River that runs behind the property. Management/Owners were incredibly hospitable and friendly. We loved our overnight stay at Lockridge, it was quiet, peaceful, and absolutely beautiful. We camped at LockRidge Park in a Travel Trailer.

*TIP ~ Dix River runs behind the property, nearby there is a marina, waterfalls, trout fishing, and many other recreational activities. This venue also hosts events and has Harvest Host accommodations.

Guide to Mount Eden

The region sits at the confluence of several watersheds with elevation ranging from 700-900 feet, creating diverse terrain for campers and RV travelers. Weather tends to be moderate with four distinct seasons, though summer humidity can make shade sites particularly valuable.

What to do

River activities: 30 minutes: Cummins Ferry RV Park provides boat ramp access and river trails along the Kentucky River. "There is a boat ramp (perfect for my kayak), docks to go fishing off of, lots of nature and trails," notes one reviewer.

Explore hiking trails: 1-3 miles: The wooded areas around campgrounds offer hiking options on various terrain. At Three Springs Campground, "It has 3 beautiful hiking trails" and "Uphill trails are spectacular, with plenty of pet friendly areas."

Weekend entertainment: Saturday evenings: Several campgrounds host regular events for campers. Cummins Ferry offers "Live music and food trucks every Saturday are a nice touch!" while other parks organize community gatherings at their pavilions.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many campers appreciate room to spread out. At Whispering Hills RV Park, "The park is well-maintained. The grass is mowed regularly and everything looks neat and tidy."

Water features: Ponds and waterfront areas add ambiance to camping experiences. "The river and waterfall makes it feel like a tranquil place. The walking trail by the river is nice, we walked it almost every day," shares a Cummins Ferry visitor.

Family amenities: Parks offer various recreation options. Whispering Hills includes a "Swimming pool with small water slide, fishing pond, jumping pillow, events at picnic shelter," making it popular with families.

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathhouses rank high in camper satisfaction. "The bathrooms were very nice and clean. The park was clean and very spacious," mentions a Cummins Ferry guest.

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Be prepared with adequate leveling equipment. "The sites here are not level. We used our normal 2x green blocks for the Jack, but needed all 10 of our leveling blocks, plus 8 paving stones to get the appropriate height," notes a Cummins Ferry camper.

Seasonal availability: Several campgrounds operate on limited schedules. Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground runs from April through mid-December, with peak season from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Staff presence varies: Expect different levels of service depending on timing. A Taylorsville Lake visitor noted, "The main overall issue is the lack of staffing. We got in shortly after 7PM and there was no ranger or staff to be found to get firewood."

Local supplies: For last-minute needs, know where to shop. Small camp stores carry basics, but for major supplies, Georgetown and Frankfort have larger retailers within 30 minutes of most campgrounds near Mount Eden.

Tips for camping with families

Playgrounds: Multiple options: Kids need places to burn energy, and several parks deliver. "We had kids that fished and played in the playground and sat by the fire every night!" mentions a Cummins Ferry visitor.

Water recreation: Bring gear: From fishing to swimming, water activities keep kids entertained. Camp Nelson RV Park "has a very nice pool and is very quiet," making it good for families seeking water recreation without crowds.

Reserve early for weekends: Family-friendly sites book quickly during peak season. "The campground was pretty full with only a few spots left," noted a Three Springs camper during high season.

Wildlife watching: Educational opportunities: Kids can explore natural habitats. A camper at Three Springs mentioned the "creek the kids caught crawfish in," offering natural hands-on learning opportunities.

Tips from RVers

Connection quality: Cell service and internet access vary by location. "They have 5 WiFi connections" at Cummins Ferry makes it suitable for digital nomads or those needing to stay connected.

Navigation considerations: Some campgrounds have challenging approaches. Brooks RV Park provides "nice sized sites, reasonable priced compared to the KOA, all good full hookups" but like many parks, requires careful navigation on smaller roads.

Electric service variations: Different parks offer varying hookup options. At Camp Nelson RV Park, you'll find "Full hook-ups for $395/mo if you are staying monthly," making it suitable for extended stays near Mount Eden.

Site selection strategy: Review site maps carefully when booking. "The sites next to the river are level and easy to back into," advises a Cummins Ferry reviewer, highlighting the importance of site research for RV camping near Mount Eden.
