      Bowling Green KOA

Why would I pay that much?!

My brother visits KOA’s all the time for camping. Me, not so much. I have a hard time paying $40 for a tent site when I can camp for free or under $20. The Bowling Green KOA, Ky is located on the outskirts of Bowling Green near the I65 and Natcher interchange. You can actually see the back end of the campground from the ramp that connects the two. My first thought when considering a stay.
I spoke with two of the very friendly and helpful ladies in the office and got a plethora of information. So much so that I’m sure I’ll forget some of it, but here goes;) So first with your fee you recieve (you and all your group) a free game of Minature Golf a day. Next there is wifi and cable available. There is a swimming pool on site and two pay lakes with paddle boats. A dog park and short trail. Depending on the month you visit there are also special incentives to stay an extra night. In May some of your fee is donated to Camp. With a KOA card there are special incentives too and you earn points with every stay. So, all that being said I did purchase a KOA card. Though this is not my favorite type of camping it will come in handy on an upcoming trip and when I camp with my brother ;) I was pleasantly surprised that the interstate noise was mostly not noticiple. There are plenty of trees that help block the noise and offer a lot of shade. We were in a busier site at the end of Abby Dr but it was an easy walk to the two small “lakes“( more like ponds ) and the dog park and showerhouse (with dogwash station) were a short walk away. Not much else to do but a fun enough spot for younger kids. ( no “bears“ to take photos with) and not as many special activities as some other theme campgrounds. This is a nice older campground, worth a night or two visit to get away from the grind for a bit.

      Bowling Green KOA

      Nice KOA

This KOA was easy to find by following our GPS. We checked in about 45 minutes prior to their 1:00 PM check in time and they didn’t even mention us being early. We decided we didn’t need an escort to our site as it was near the office. We proceeded to deluxe-patio pull-through site H-4 with FHUs. The utilities were nicely placed in the middle of the pad. Water pressure was good at about 50 psi. This site has plenty of shade as does most sites in the campground (CG) due to mature trees, so we did not put out Starlink. We got 4 bars LTE on Verizon and used our MiFi versus Starlink. Site H-4 has a utility box on the yard side, so we had extra space between the adjacent site. They have a decent sized dog park with an agility set up. This KOA has a lot of amenities and lives up to a Holiday KOA rating. The dog park is a nice size. They have a decent laundry room behind the office with 4 washers and 8 dryers. It’s$2.50 to wash and$1.50 to dry. They have 2 fishing ponds. The large one you can keep 2 fish for$20 and the small one is catch and release. There’s some traffic noise from I-65 and surrounding roads. Our main reason to visit the area was to visit the National Corvette Museum. We enjoyed our two night stay.

      Beautiful campground

This place is a hidden gem back in the woods, the owner met us when we arrived and gave us all of the information we needed. This place has a beautiful fishing pond, dog park and a nice walking trail. Perfect for anyone stopping through for the night or wanting to spend the week. Highly recommend!

      Moutardier

      Lakeside, fisherman's paradise

Moutardier Campground is a fisherman’s paradise. It is located on Nolin River Lake. Our site was lakeside which was beautiful (Site D6). This campsite offered electric/water hookup, fire pit, picnic table, filet table, bathrooms, and showers. There were boat ramps, a marina nearby to rent boats, and also offered a playground. Pets were welcomed (we have a dog and a hiking cat). We also had cell service (Verizon).

The view of the lake from the teardrop camper was awesome. We kayaked around the lake which was very enjoyable - saw ducks, and birds such as a grey heron. Also lots of fish jumping. There are power boats allowed in the lake. Many people were fishing from their boats, kayaks, or from the shore.

There is also a two mile hike that is in the campground called Shady Creek Trail. It looked like it had not been hiked in a while but it went through woods, small stream and had a cool rock formation at one part that you would swear is a haven for snakes. Pets enjoyed it but beware if you do not like spiders. This trail was covered in spiders and webs. No exaggeration that we cleared about a hundred spiders out of our path.

The campground was very well manicured and clean. Many of the sites were right on the lake. They were close together but did not seem it as they were on different levels and angles. Everyone was quiet and courteous. Bathrooms were very clean and well lit. The showers were “dated” - water stains but clean. Great water pressure and hot water.

There was no store on the campground but 5 minutes away was a great little restaurant called Sherry’s that we had both lunch and breakfast at. Food was delicious (fried dill pickle chips!) and one could buy bags of ice.

Overall this was a very relaxing campground. We met some wonderful people who have been coming to the campground for years. It is about 30 minutes from Mammoth Caves which was a great place to explore. Overall we gave the campground a 4 - lakeside and if you love to fish - it’s paradise.

      Bowling Green KOA

      Nice KOA

This was a nice KOA, but some sites were small with all sites having very small fire pits made from only old tire wheels. This KOA has a pool, fishing, putt putt, dump station, general store, cabins, a little run down restroom/bath houses, kids play scape, large chess board, and a dog park. This KOA was about 20 minutes from Mammoth Cave National Park and the National Corvette Museum. Both are worth the trip to.

      Bowling Green KOA

      Standard KOA/Awesome stay!

This is a typical KOA park but in an awesome area. The only downside is the traffic noise from the highway. It was not audible inside the RV so it wasn’t enough to disturb sleep.

The park has nice long pull through spaces, and quite a few long term residents of the park. They have a very nice dog park with obstacles for them in a central location to be accessed by everyone.

The sites were level and clear of obstacles. They left plenty of space for vehicles and rigs. We had a pull through patio and the space had a giant beautiful tree that was very helpful in the heat.

Equipment is well maintained at this location! Cell service for AT&T and TMobile we’re both excellent.

      Western Kentucky RV Park

For a short stay.. Western KY RV Park is okay.

For a short stay I'd come back again. The RV Park is close to shopping , in case you forgot something or didn't get a chance to stick up. However, the park itself leaves much to be desired. Though there are showers( pressure low and get in early for hot water or sometimes late at night so the propane can heat more) they are relatively clean. It mentioned a dog park, which is more like a run. For noise, there really isn't much in the park, probably due to the long list of rules, but the Kentucky Park Way is rather noisy! The park has lights so you really can't enjoy the night sky especially with lights from the city .The park is maintained and has 24/7 surveillance. Each site has hook up for 30 and 50 along with water and waste hook ups. They do allow for RV's to pull in and empty for a small fee. They have electric as well for .22 a kw. The only other thing I can really say is the manager is super nice and will accommodate you the best she can. Has laundry room for 2.oo a load. Machines are mediocre. So if I had to, or was in a spot of having to stop for either a weekend or a day , it's fine. Most of the campers here are ppl. who are working out of town, so they stay here- which makes perfect sense, otherwise,if you're looking to kick back and enjoy amenities , or for completely no sound of the eternal rat race .. keep searching this ain't the place. Want to add there are no fires allowed on the ground. So no fire pits unless you have your own that is raised.

    Guide to Dunmor

Camping options near Dunmor, Kentucky center around Nolin Lake and the surrounding state parks at an elevation of approximately 600 feet. The region features rolling hills and forested areas with moderate humidity during summer months. Seasonal campgrounds typically operate from April through October, with several year-round options available for visitors needing accommodations during winter.

    What to do

Water activities at Nolin Lake: Moutardier Campground provides excellent water access with boat ramps and shoreline sites. "We kayaked around the lake which was very enjoyable - saw ducks, and birds such as a grey heron. Also lots of fish jumping. There are power boats allowed in the lake," notes one Moutardier visitor.

Hiking nearby trails: Several short to moderate trails exist within the parks around Dunmor. At Lake Malone State Park Campground, the trails are well-maintained and accessible. "The trails were nice. The beach and beach house were just okay, not bad, but not great either," according to a recent camper.

Wildlife observation: Early mornings provide optimal wildlife viewing throughout the region. "Got up at the crack of dawn and took a walk, saw lots of critters," reports one Lake Malone visitor, highlighting the diverse fauna present in the area.

Fishing opportunities: The waterways around Dunmor offer productive fishing spots. "Many people were fishing from their boats, kayaks, or from the shore," notes a Moutardier camper, describing the popularity of this activity.

    What campers like

Well-maintained grounds: Several campgrounds receive praise for their upkeep and landscaping. "The restrooms and grounds were very clean at the campsite. The camp host and store clerk were friendly and helpful," mentions a visitor at Lake Malone State Park.

Quiet camping atmosphere: Nolin Lake State Park Campground provides a peaceful environment according to most reviewers. "This is our second time here and we love it as much as the first. Will probably be a yearly visit for us. We love all the sites, it's quiet, near the lake, everyone is friendly," writes one returning camper.

Site positioning and privacy: Campgrounds in the area are designed to maximize views while maintaining some separation between sites. At Moutardier, a camper notes: "The sites were close together but did not seem it as they were on different levels and angles. Everyone was quiet and courteous."

Seasonal events: Halloween camping is particularly popular at certain parks. "Family friendly Halloween fun. Has a decorating contest with trick or treat in the campground. Safe and clean with lots of restrooms and lake front sites," explains a Moutardier visitor.

    What you should know

Tick protection required: The wooded areas around campsites harbor ticks, especially during warmer months. A Nolin Lake State Park camper advises: "Really nothing bad to say at all (except for all the ticks....spray up)!!!"

Limited amenities at some locations: Not all campgrounds offer full services. At Hopewell RV Park, which welcomes pets but prohibits alcohol, a visitor notes: "Full hookups at each site and new picnic tables. Beautiful country and Dollar General just down the road."

Site leveling challenges: Some campgrounds feature uneven terrain that can make setup difficult. "The sites are hard to back in with a camper, we had to buy longer extension cables and a longer water hose, sites are very close together," reports a Pennyrile Forest camper.

Seasonal operation: Most state parks operate on limited schedules. "Primitive camping is also available. Due to bug concerns, Lake Malone State Park does ask that you purchase firewood on site and not to bring it in," mentions a frequent visitor.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground availability: Several campgrounds feature play areas for children. At Western Kentucky RV Park, a visitor notes: "There is a nice little playground for kids as well. Make it your next stop through."

Beach access considerations: Public beaches can get crowded during peak times. "Beach is free to public so very crowded and some elements are not family friendly," cautions a Pennyrile Forest visitor regarding their swimming area.

Multi-generational activities: Look for campgrounds with diverse recreational options. "This is a very small park with a quiet campground. There is no gate to the campground, so there is some traffic that comes through from time to time which I didn't care for," shares a Lake Malone camper.

Dog-friendly trail options: For families camping with pets near Dunmor, trails provide exercise opportunities. "We haven't camped overnight yet, my husband and I frequent Lake Malone State Park to hike the trails. In order to access our favorite trail we park in the campgrounds and are often greeted by friendly waves from other campers," reports a regular visitor.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park provides RV sites but with some limitations. "We had to go and stay where the horses are cause that area is even," advises one RVer who discovered the equestrian camping area offers more level sites.

Site selection strategies: When reserving at dog-friendly campgrounds near Dunmor, inquire about specific site characteristics. A Pennyrile visitor suggests: "When you reserve your site make sure you ask about the specific site's terrain. Site 48, where I was, was sloped with no grass and had just been repaired."

Budget-friendly options: For long-term stays, consider parks with monthly rates. At Livermore RV Park, a visitor shares: "These sites are right off the green river, there is a boat ramp adjacent. Good people all around, and the monthly is amazingly low. You can opt to pay for 50 or 30 amp service. Only cash or check accepted however."

Utility extension needs: Some sites require additional equipment. "The sites are hard to back in with a camper, we had to buy longer extension cables and a longer water hose," cautions a Pennyrile Forest RVer about the park's site configuration.
