What campers like
Family-friendly amenities: Pet and kid zones. "The park has so much to do for kids and adults. Hiking, mountain bike trails along with pump track for kids, a small petting zoo, and a beautiful lake front," notes a Scales Lake Park visitor.
Holiday-themed experiences: Halloween weekends. Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph offers seasonal themed camping. "We went to Lake Rudolph for their Halloweekends and it is a one of a kind experience. They have so many activities for the kids such as hayrides, a DJ, pumpkin carving, and so many other things throughout the day!" shares Ashley D.
Quiet locations: Away from crowds. John James Audubon State Park Campground provides a less crowded option. "Probably one of the smallest campsites I've been to and it's never been crowded when we went which is nice for our family. There are some very nice hiking trails and a great museum and nature center," explains Misty P.
What you should know
Highway noise levels: Sites along main roads. John James Audubon State Park Campground sites parallel to Highway 41 experience traffic noise. "The campground is layed out parallel to highway 41. The sound of traffic whizzing by on the highway is constant," cautions Laura E.
Site spacing concerns: Tight quarters in some areas. "The sites are very close together, so when the campsites are full you don't feel like you have much privacy or personal space," notes Stefanie W. about Scales Lake Park.
Bathroom maintenance: Variable cleanliness. Rocky Falls Campground & RV Park received feedback about facilities. "Bathrooms were very dirty and sketchy. People who stayed there are nice but the facility itself is in disrepair," reports camper Luke.
Tips for camping with families
Theme park access: Adjacent location. Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph provides convenient access to Holiday World theme park. "The location of the campground is perfect if you're visiting for Holiday World / Splashin' Safari. Speaking of which, I was a little hesitant about Holiday World as it sounds a little cheesy, but I think it's one of the nicest amusement parks we've ever been to," writes Danielle V.
Petting zoo: Small animal contact. Burdette Park offers additional animal experiences. "Complete camping package. Love Burdette. They have everything to keep your family entertained. A pool, mini golf, hiking cabins and so much more," says Jamie B.
Kid-focused amenities: Playgrounds and activities. "Two playgrounds, little petting zoo for kids. Beach area with small fee. Full hook up sites," reports Jessica D. about Scales Lake Park.
Tips from RVers
Payment methods: Cash/check only. Livermore RV Park near Baskett, Kentucky has specific payment requirements. "These sites are right off the green river, there is a boat ramp adjacent. Good people all around, and the monthly is amazingly low. You can opt to pay for 50 or 30 amp service. Only cash or check accepted however," advises Brandon R.
Site arrangement: Entry/exit coordination. "We had 3 RVs in our group and we camped in one of the 'wagon wheels'. It was a very cool experience. I'm not sure how you could get in or out if all the spots were reserved. It took a collaborative effort when it was time to pull out," explains Dan H. about Scales Lake Park.
Site leveling requirements: Minimal at some parks. "Our spot was great and didn't require much leveling. We did get a deluxe spot. However we only got the spot because at the others were sold out. Many of the other spots were on hills and right on top of each other," shares Megan about Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph.
