      Ouabache Trails County Park

      Homey, clean

Level gravel sites, site 17 needs extra long electric cord, extremely well cared for park with helpful hosts. Very clean bathroom, shower and laundry facilities, decorated with homey touches. Firewood and ice available at campground. Some road and train noise, but park itself was quiet.

      A few great spots

We secured a spot on the look near the lake. The view was awesome! The spots not on that little circle were eh, ok. If you can get a good one it’s worth it for sure.

      Hoosier National Forest

      Quiet and secluded

Way off the beaten path and not in a random valley this was a great step over the random spot I had chosen earlier. Gladly unpacked the car to rack out.

      Mitchell Creek Road

      Hole in the road

Did not stay the night - wasn’t confident about its safety given my own personal circumstances so I’m leaving.

It’s on a forest trail that may or may not go to a residence. Theres a fire ring and some bit of a clearing but my car camping requires removing a specific necessary valuable from th car in order to lay down and I don’t feel safe doing so here.

      Patoka Lake Campground

      Great little weekend

Came out this weekend for our first visit to the area. Great campsite, really couldn't find anything to complain about. The lots are huge giving you plenty of room for activities. Tons of trails, amazing paved bike trail thru the whole park. Came off-season but there was a shower house with nice warm water, and clean facilities. Can't wait to come back again.

    Guide to Oakland City

Camping opportunities near Oakland City, Indiana extend across several state forests and county parks with varying levels of development. Located in the southwest region of Indiana at approximately 450 feet elevation, the area experiences warm, humid summers and mild winters with occasional snowfall. Most campgrounds remain accessible year-round, though water systems at primitive sites may be winterized from November through March.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Glendale State Fish and Wildlife Area offers excellent fishing at Dogwood Lake. "Campground can be crowded when the fishing is good. I rated it on the fishing," reports Jennifer K., who notes her family runs their camper "off of solar" in the primitive section.

Mountain biking trails: Scales Lake Park maintains dedicated mountain bike trails suitable for different skill levels. "Scales Lake is a wonderful campground... Hiking, mountain bike trails along with pump track for kids, a small petting zoo, and a beautiful lake front for swimming with water slide and diving boards," shares Jennifer T.

Golf access: Multiple campgrounds provide golf course proximity. Vanderburgh 4H Campground offers "great views of the small lake" according to Jerry H., while maintaining a quiet atmosphere that doesn't feel like "some drive-through campsite."

    What campers like

Primitive camping options: Pike State Forest provides a true back-to-basics experience for those seeking solitude. Brandon W. notes, "This is the place to go if you really want to camp without the modern convenience of water and electricity. Which in my mind is perfect because it's usually just one maybe 2 people if that."

Reclaimed natural areas: Miles Landing Campground sits on former strip mine land that has been reclaimed. Doug describes it as being "in the middle of a large reclamation. Lots of ponds and young trees. Great modern sites mostly dispersed." The campground reopened relatively recently after extensive renovations.

Clean facilities: Multiple reviewers mention facility cleanliness as a standout feature. At Miles Landing, Jacinda L. notes, "The bathrooms were probably the cleanest, nicest shower houses I've seen at a campground," while Michael at Glendale reports "Showers were very hot, toilets clean."

    What you should know

Seasonal limitations: Some campgrounds operate with reduced services during certain months. Glendale State Fish and Wildlife Area only operates from April 1 through October 31, limiting camping options during winter months.

Site spacing considerations: Site proximity varies significantly between campgrounds. At Lynnville Park, Thomas W. notes, "Sites are big and spaced apart," while reviews of other campgrounds mention close quarters.

Reservation systems: Several campgrounds utilize self-registration. Kelly W. describes Lynnville's approach: "We checked in through the honor system as the store/office closed at 5p; we filled out a registration form put $22 in it and put it in the mail slot."

    Tips for camping with families

Water recreation access: Lake Lincoln Campground provides family-friendly water activities. Danielle M. notes it's "usually packed" and "less than 10 miles away from Holiday World. I think a lot of theme park visitors camp here."

Holiday-themed activities: Several campgrounds offer seasonal programming. MISTY P. mentions that her "kids love Lincoln especially around Halloween when they do their trick or treating."

Animal encounters: Warrick County Park maintains a small petting zoo with unusual campground access. Keith P. explains, "In the morning they let the animals out to feed on the grass. So expect to see them in the campground. Harmless and unique."

    Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Full hookups vary by location. At Miles Landing, Never Sitting S. notes, "Full hookups on every site, have in trees half in direct sun," adding that the campground will "fit any size rig."

Navigation challenges: Some campgrounds have access issues. Never Sitting S. advises that Miles Landing can be tricky to find: "GPS states there is a bridge to the campground, but not true. Can drive directly to it."

Site leveling requirements: Surface conditions affect setup time. At Prides Creek Co Park, Laura H. reports, "We got into our campsite fairly easily. It was quiet and they have a lot to do at the campground," though she notes the "roads were narrow but doable."
