Summer months typically see higher occupancy rates, particularly at Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph which operates from May through October. Dump stations are available at Burdette Park, Lake Lincoln Campground, and Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph, with the latter providing the most accessible options for larger motorhomes. Many parks welcome pets but enforce leash policies and designated pet areas. Cell service remains reliable near Evansville and Newburgh but may become spotty in more remote locations like Hoosier National Forest areas. A review noted: "They have just redone this camp ground with new concrete pads, new bathhouse, and new electrical. It's very peaceful."

    Tipsaw Lake

    Come one come all

Tipsaw Recreation Area Hoosier National Forest is the place to visit if you have a large group or family event planned.

We had a good time doing basic camping activities while here, nothing flashy just fun water sports, campfire activities and hiking. ( no signal so appreciate the quiet :)

5 camping areas which are mostly group based and reservable. Catbrier Loop is the more wide open campground with large RV sites, a pit toilet, pavilion and small field for group events and a path to the beach. Goldenrod (camping side by side) and Primrose (camping around the loop)offer more shade and area to spread out with pit toilets, picnic tables and fire rings. Dogwood has double RV sites and some singles, and you feel more “in the woods” with full canopy coverage. A showerhouse and pit toilet, picnic tables and fire pits. The largest area is Jackpine Loop, good shade, showerhouse and more privacy.

The beach area on Tipsaw Lake is very family oriented, nice bathhouse facility, small picnic pavilions on cement walkways and a nice beach with play area for the kids. We did not visit the beach because dogs are not allowed. Adjacent is the boat ramp which is ramp, dock, pit toilet and parking. The dogs had fun here playing in the water along the ramp, not much shore to speak of.

The Tipsaw Lake Trail is 5.9 miles of technical rolling hills with complete tree coverage. We hiked it and I noticed that it is a little overgrown but overall a nice trail. With all the rain the trail was muddy and several of the small streams still had water in them. Ticks are bad with the rain and overgrowth so apply your bug spray liberally!

In addition to the recreation area there is the Mogan Trailhead in the area which is shared with horses. A zip line Eagles Wing and Citgo gas station. Tell City to the south has the usual stores and fast food for any needed amenities, the ranger station is also located there but closed on the weekends.

I spoke with several of the camp hosts and they were very informative about the area and took good care of their areas. They also have the firewood if you need some.

Lake Lincoln Campground — Lincoln State Park

    Very nice!

Lincoln State Park in Southern Indiana. About as far South as you can go! (In Indiana!). We did a weekend visit.

150 electric sites. There's 30 & 50 Amp sites with water at each site!

6 handicap sites. There are NO pull through sites.

The best sites are by Lake Lincoln- 40 & 41. 39 is ok, but all 3 of these sites are in the sun most of the day. Also, 40 & 41 are not ON the lake. Trail 1 & a wide grassy area are before the water. The only advantage IMO is an unobstructed view of the water & a short walk to the lake.

The sites seemed short, but people were able to park very large rigs in them. Check the site dimensions before booking or call the office to make sure you'll fit.

There's a large primitive campground. They have a modern bath house with showers. Some cabins.

There's 2 bath houses in the electric side with flush toilets & showers. Very clean for a state park!

      A double dump station.

6 trails from easy to moderate. The longest is 3.7 miles.

Boating & fishing are popular, but electric motor only. There's boat rental.

There's a beach, but closed after Labor Day. The camp store is in the pavilion by the beach & has limited hours after Labor Day.

      There's a small nature center.

Lots of history in the park & in the area. Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is directly across the road from the state park

. Santa Claus Indiana& Holiday World are nearby.

    Windy Hollow Camp and Recreation

    Price Gouging

I have a class A 50 amp RV and got put in a 30 amp pull thru with no sewer hookup and no wifi or cable and duck and goose poo everywhere .  The lady I assume was the owner is extremely rude and charges 60$ a day for.  The bathroom facilities are filthy and whatever you do don't buy any of the smelly outdated crap in the office store that reeks of musty mold.  Worst 4 days ever.

Lake Lincoln Campground — Lincoln State Park

    Very nice State Park

Very nice state park campground with electric, (50 on some, 30 on some), and water hookups. Two clean shower houses. Two dump stations. Lake for swimming, fishing, canoe, paddle boat and Jon boat rentals. Hiking trails and fire tower. Typical camp store on site. Gas station with propane about a mile from the camp ground. Has primitive sites and cabin rentals also. The park has a large outdoor covered amphitheater with several concerts throughout the season. Most sites are pretty level. There are a few that are not. The majority of the sites have at least partial shade. Weekends are usually booked up in advance. Through the week is no problem getting your choice of sites. Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is adjacent to the State park. It has a living farm. Both are free. Admission to the state park is $7.00 per vehicle or a Indiana State Park annual pass for $50.00 gets you into any Indiana state park anytime for the year. You can book through reserveamerica.com or calling the park directly.

    Burdette Park

    Nice little sute

Burdette Park is on the west side of Evansville. Really nice park! Currently we are full timing there. They have maybe 24 full huck up spots and about 10 or so w/o sewer. 30/50 amp electric on all. All pads are drive through and very level. They don't have much going on in winter but summertime is great. Pool, trails, BMX racing on Friday nights and tons of shelters for your get-togethers! Wonderful camp managers!

    Scales Lake Park

    Starve Hollow Park INDIANA

Very quiet though it is winter season. There is still water available and a place to dump. We camped close to the lake in a pull through site. This time of year very few campers. But everyone I encountered even park staff was very friendly.

    Harmonie State Park Campground

    Lotsa trees

Ranger Review: Primus at Harmonie State Park

I recently visited Harmonie State Park near New Harmony, In. https://indianastateparks.reserveamerica.com/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=IN&parkId=570048 Just a heads up when camping in Indiana there is a fee to visit the State Parks. I always carry cash for that , laundry and in some states bathroom use. So, the number one thing that stuck out to me about this campground was the shade. For the most part it’s level (floodplain...I saw no standing water) And all the sites are nicely shaded (we are talking full growth) and good size. The sites are electric only, no water, no sewer. There are centrally located water hydrants and a dump station on the way out of the campground. The campground wasn’t very full when we visited, but there is a plethora of activities to enjoy. An Olympic size pool which back in the day my kids woulda loved. Hiking paths (very wide), one right by the campground and a connector trail to the mountain bike trail area. There’s also a bike section on the paved roads. You could spend a comfortable week here and not be bored.

Product Review: As a Dyrt Ranger I get to occasionally try out outdoor products while camping and this trip I brought along some Primus “kitchen gear” https://primus.us/ . Primus is known for its camping stoves , the kitchen accessories are pretty sweet too. I have the Trailsporks , a long spoon , a spatula for grilling , campfire plates and a campfire knife. These are very sturdy made accessories and pack in my kit without taking up a lot of space. There are a lot of options on the site to fit your packing needs too, from family fireside to fastpacking . I’m building my fireside kitchen kit .

    Hilltop Campground

    Small town campground

They have just redone this camp ground with new concrete pads, new bathhouse, and new electrical. It’s very peaceful. Some people may leave their camper there all season but that’s only a couple of spots. Not bad for a small campground in a small community.

Guide to Newburgh

Newburgh sits in the Ohio River Valley at approximately 400 feet elevation in southwest Indiana. The area experiences hot, humid summers and mild winters with periodic snowfall. Camping options in the region extend beyond basic RV parks to include both state and county parks offering various water activities along smaller lakes and rivers.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Lynnville Park provides direct waterfront campsites along its small lake. "Nice little campground next to a small lake. We stayed for one night. Sites are big and spaced apart. Nice and quiet, apart from the interstate background noise which is noticeable but not too bad," notes Thomas W.

Swimming and water recreation: Lake Lincoln Campground features a swimming beach that operates seasonally. A camper reports, "There's a beach, but closed after Labor Day. The camp store is in the pavilion by the beach & has limited hours after Labor Day."

Historical exploration: Visit the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial located directly across from Lake Lincoln Campground. "Lots of history in the park & in the area. Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is directly across the road from the state park," mentions Cynthia K.

Family attractions: John James Audubon State Park Campground offers nature and historical experiences. "This campsite is more for a light camper. It is not primative and they have losging available. It is a beautiful area of land with a gorgwous lake," writes Jamie B.

What campers like

Quiet, spacious sites: Lynnville Park receives praise for its generous spacing. "My camping spot was right on the lake and it was beautiful. I would definitely camp here again. There was some road noise, but that's to be expected due to being close to a highway and it wasn't too much for me," shares Nick T.

Clean facilities: Scales Lake Park maintains high standards for its amenities. "Scales Lake is a wonderful campground. It has primitive, cabIns, and RV camping. The people are friendly and bathrooms are clean," Jennifer T. mentions.

Diverse recreation options: Scales Lake Park offers multiple activity choices. "The camp has so much to do for kids and adults. Hiking, mountain bike trails along wIth pump track for kIds, a small petting zoo, and a beautiful lake front for swimming with water slide and diving boards," notes Jennifer T.

Halloween festivities: Seasonal events draw campers to certain parks. "We went to Lake Rudolph for their Halloweekends and it is a one of a kind experience. They have so many activities for the kids such as hayrides, a DJ, pumpkin carving, and so many other things throughout the day!" shares Ashley D.

What you should know

Site layout concerns: Some Newburgh-area rv parks have limitations regarding site arrangement. At Burdette Park, "Cramped, hookups mis-placed and generally older and somewhat seedy. The county really needs to clean the campground up and evict some of the 'Walt and Jessie' rv's," reports Terri B.

Highway noise: Audubon State Park experiences traffic sound from nearby roads. "The campground is layed out parallel to highway 41. The sound of traffic whizzing by on the highway is constant. There are businesses like gas stations and quick marts on the other side of 41 and the lights of those businesses shine into the campground," explains Laura E.

Seasonal closures: Many amenities operate on restricted schedules. "The beach, boat rental and general use area was well maintained and had some cool old buildings in use," reports Shelly S. about Lincoln State Park, though many facilities close after Labor Day.

Site reservation needs: Western Kentucky RV Park offers basic accommodations with advance planning recommended. "If you're tired and need a quiet place to rest, look no further. Each site has electric and water. Back in and stay awhile. Parking is easy on the gravel lot," shares Chris O.

Tips for camping with families

Water activities for children: Burdette Park offers extensive water recreation options. "A park on the outskirts of Evansville Indiana. Has many things to do for the weekend. Many nearby attractions and activities," notes Barry B.

Animal experiences: Several parks feature small petting zoos for children. "Two playgrounds, little petting zoo for kids. Beach area with small fee. Full hook up sites," reports Jessica D. about Scales Lake Park.

Halloween camping: Seasonal festivities create memorable experiences. "It was so neat seeing the campsites and golf carts decorated and lit up at night. If you get the chance to go, do it!" recommends Ashley D. regarding Lake Rudolph's Halloween events.

Off-site attractions: The nearby Holiday World theme park complements camping trips. "Great campgound with nice wide spots. Close to Hoilday World. Awesome trails," Keith M. mentions about Lincoln State Park.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: At rv parks near Newburgh, Indiana, choosing the right location matters. "The sites seemed short, but people were able to park very large rigs in them. Check the site dimensions before booking or call the office to make sure you'll fit," advises Cynthia K. about Lake Lincoln.

Proximity to amenities: For those traveling in motorhomes, selecting sites near facilities enhances convenience. "We camped here in the middle of October. The sites are very close together, so when the campsites are full you don't feel like you have much privacy or personal space. It was nice having full hookups for our camper," reports Stefanie W. about her stay at Scales Lake.

Utility hookup placement: Some campgrounds have unusual utility arrangements. "We had 3 RVs in our group and we camped in one of the 'wagon wheels'. It was a very cool experience. I'm not sure how you could get in or out if all the spots were reserved. It took a collaborative effort when it was time to pull out," explains Dan H. about his experience at Scales Lake Park.
