Lake Lincoln Campground — Lincoln State Park

    Very nice!

Lincoln State Park in Southern Indiana. About as far South as you can go! (In Indiana!). We did a weekend visit.

150 electric sites. There's 30 & 50 Amp sites with water at each site!

6 handicap sites. There are NO pull through sites.

The best sites are by Lake Lincoln- 40 & 41. 39 is ok, but all 3 of these sites are in the sun most of the day. Also, 40 & 41 are not ON the lake. Trail 1 & a wide grassy area are before the water. The only advantage IMO is an unobstructed view of the water & a short walk to the lake.

The sites seemed short, but people were able to park very large rigs in them. Check the site dimensions before booking or call the office to make sure you'll fit.

There's a large primitive campground. They have a modern bath house with showers. Some cabins.

There's 2 bath houses in the electric side with flush toilets & showers. Very clean for a state park!

      A double dump station.

6 trails from easy to moderate. The longest is 3.7 miles.

Boating & fishing are popular, but electric motor only. There's boat rental.

There's a beach, but closed after Labor Day. The camp store is in the pavilion by the beach & has limited hours after Labor Day.

      There's a small nature center.

Lots of history in the park & in the area. Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is directly across the road from the state park

. Santa Claus Indiana& Holiday World are nearby.

    Windy Hollow Camp and Recreation

    Price Gouging

I have a class A 50 amp RV and got put in a 30 amp pull thru with no sewer hookup and no wifi or cable and duck and goose poo everywhere .  The lady I assume was the owner is extremely rude and charges 60$ a day for.  The bathroom facilities are filthy and whatever you do don't buy any of the smelly outdated crap in the office store that reeks of musty mold.  Worst 4 days ever.

Lake Lincoln Campground — Lincoln State Park

    Very nice State Park

Very nice state park campground with electric, (50 on some, 30 on some), and water hookups. Two clean shower houses. Two dump stations. Lake for swimming, fishing, canoe, paddle boat and Jon boat rentals. Hiking trails and fire tower. Typical camp store on site. Gas station with propane about a mile from the camp ground. Has primitive sites and cabin rentals also. The park has a large outdoor covered amphitheater with several concerts throughout the season. Most sites are pretty level. There are a few that are not. The majority of the sites have at least partial shade. Weekends are usually booked up in advance. Through the week is no problem getting your choice of sites. Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is adjacent to the State park. It has a living farm. Both are free. Admission to the state park is $7.00 per vehicle or a Indiana State Park annual pass for $50.00 gets you into any Indiana state park anytime for the year. You can book through reserveamerica.com or calling the park directly.

    Burdette Park

    Nice little sute

Burdette Park is on the west side of Evansville. Really nice park! Currently we are full timing there. They have maybe 24 full huck up spots and about 10 or so w/o sewer. 30/50 amp electric on all. All pads are drive through and very level. They don't have much going on in winter but summertime is great. Pool, trails, BMX racing on Friday nights and tons of shelters for your get-togethers! Wonderful camp managers!

Red Hills Lake State Park — Red Hills State Park

Nice state park with recent upgrades

We were there in November for just a night. At first I thought the sites were a bit rough and not very level. But while were there, they started to regrade the pads at the sites. The new gravel was leveled and packed flat. The sites are greatly improved.

Cell service was very good, Verizon, and very quiet. Most sites are 30 amp but the Lake view loop are 50 amp. There are a few sites that will handle large rigs but most are for medium sized rigs.

    Ouabache Trails County Park

    Excellent County Park

Great gem of a woodsy campground. Stayed one night before visiting George Rogers Clark National Park (you can park your rig right in front of the natl park visitors center on the street). Campground is out of the way, which I consider a positive.

The staff were great. Excellent communication, seamless reservation process. Received prompt response to email, voicemail message was left after booking explaining exactly where my site was located.

If you are coming in for one night, definitely pick site 23 or 24 pull throughs. TIP: Make sure you have an extension for your 30/50 AMP, and one for your water as well (but what serious camper doesn't already have those?). Definitely on the list of "do agains."

    Scales Lake Park

    Starve Hollow Park INDIANA

Very quiet though it is winter season. There is still water available and a place to dump. We camped close to the lake in a pull through site. This time of year very few campers. But everyone I encountered even park staff was very friendly.

    Harmonie State Park Campground

    Lotsa trees

Ranger Review: Primus at Harmonie State Park

I recently visited Harmonie State Park near New Harmony, In. https://indianastateparks.reserveamerica.com/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=IN&parkId=570048 Just a heads up when camping in Indiana there is a fee to visit the State Parks. I always carry cash for that , laundry and in some states bathroom use. So, the number one thing that stuck out to me about this campground was the shade. For the most part it’s level (floodplain...I saw no standing water) And all the sites are nicely shaded (we are talking full growth) and good size. The sites are electric only, no water, no sewer. There are centrally located water hydrants and a dump station on the way out of the campground. The campground wasn’t very full when we visited, but there is a plethora of activities to enjoy. An Olympic size pool which back in the day my kids woulda loved. Hiking paths (very wide), one right by the campground and a connector trail to the mountain bike trail area. There’s also a bike section on the paved roads. You could spend a comfortable week here and not be bored.

Product Review: As a Dyrt Ranger I get to occasionally try out outdoor products while camping and this trip I brought along some Primus “kitchen gear” https://primus.us/ . Primus is known for its camping stoves , the kitchen accessories are pretty sweet too. I have the Trailsporks , a long spoon , a spatula for grilling , campfire plates and a campfire knife. These are very sturdy made accessories and pack in my kit without taking up a lot of space. There are a lot of options on the site to fit your packing needs too, from family fireside to fastpacking . I’m building my fireside kitchen kit .

Guide to Highland

Camping near Highland, Indiana provides numerous options for outdoor enthusiasts within a reasonable driving distance. The region features mostly flat terrain with small lakes and wooded areas, plus temperatures that range from 40-85°F during the main camping season of April through October. Rainfall averages 3-4 inches per month during summer, making early fall a particularly comfortable time for RV camping near Highland, Indiana.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Lynnville Park offers multiple small ponds for fishing enthusiasts. "Nice little campground next to a small lake. Sites are big and spaced apart," notes Thomas W., who appreciated the peaceful setting despite some interstate background noise.

Water recreation: At Scales Lake Park, visitors enjoy both fishing and swimming. "There is a boat ramp for fishing boats and kayaks... a beautiful lake front for swimming with water slide and diving boards," says Jennifer T., who lives nearby but still enjoys staying at the campground for weekend adventures.

Holiday World access: Families can take advantage of the proximity to Holiday World theme park when staying at Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph. "The location of the campground is perfect if you're visiting for Holiday World / Splashin' Safari," reports Danielle V., who found the wooden roller coasters particularly impressive.

What campers like

Seasonal events: Halloween-themed weekends are particularly popular at certain campgrounds. "We went to Lake Rudolph for their Halloweekends and it is a one of a kind experience. They have so many activities for the kids such as hayrides, a DJ, pumpkin carving, and so many other things throughout the day," explains Ashley D.

Hiking trails: Some parks offer nature trails for exploring. "This park is kept clean and has nice trails for those who enjoy hiking," Todd S. says about Scales Lake Park, which maintains well-kept paths through wooded areas.

Historical attractions: John James Audubon State Park Campground offers cultural experiences alongside camping. "The onsite buildings are old school and have to be seen to be appreciated. Worth the trip or a nice stop off enroute somewhere else," reports Shelly S., highlighting the park's historical architecture.

What you should know

Site spacing varies: Campground layouts differ significantly across the region. At Burdette Park, "All sites are pull through, and within 2 feet of the drive. Good spacing between sites, I didn't feel like I was right up on my neighbors," according to Jon P.

Highway noise: Some campgrounds are situated near major roads. At John James Audubon State Park, "The campground is layed out parallel to highway 41. The sound of traffic whizzing by on the highway is constant," warns Laura E., noting that nearby business lights also shine into the camping area.

Reservation timing: Many popular campgrounds fill quickly during peak season. "We live right across the Ohio in Evansville thus this is our go to park for a last minute getaway where we don't have to worry about making reservations months in advance to get a decent spot," says Misty P. about John James Audubon State Park.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Many parks offer dedicated facilities for children. "Two playgrounds, little petting zoo for kids. Beach area with small fee. Full hook up sites," summarizes Jessica D. about Scales Lake Park.

Theme park packages: Livermore RV Park serves as an affordable base for families visiting regional attractions. "Affordable!!!" emphasizes Brandon R., noting that this "wonderfully cared for rv park right on the boat ramp to the green river" offers good value.

Multiple activity options: Some parks feature various recreation possibilities in one location. "Burdette Park is right outside Evansville, In. And BUSY. BMX track, HUGE swimming pool/water park with slides and several other outdoor activities," notes Shelly S., highlighting the diverse entertainment options.

Tips from RVers

Site selection considerations: Some RV sites present challenges for larger rigs. "Our spot was great and didn't require much leveling. We did get a deluxe spot. However we only got the spot because all the others were sold out. Many of the other Spots were on hills and right on top of each other," warns megan about Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph.

Park layout navigation: Certain campgrounds have unique configurations. "We had 3 RVs in our group and we camped in one of the 'wagon wheels'. It was a very cool experience. I'm not sure how you could get in or out if all the spots were reserved. It took a collaborative effort when it was time to pull out," explains Dan H. about Scales Lake Park.

Convenience factors: Some parks offer honors-system registration for late arrivals. "We checked in through the honor system as the store/office closed at 5p; we filled out a registration form put $22 in it and put it in the mail slot," recalls Kelly W., appreciating the flexibility at Lynnville Park.
