    Elk Bend RV Park

    Peaceful and Idyllic

We set up our daughter in our Super C here for 2 months while she worked in nearby Salmon during the busy season. We were so happy with the beautiful scenery, quiet grounds, and excellent service from the owner. If she ever needed anything, they were happy to help. There is a clean laundry room, showers, and bathrooms onsite, and more than enough space for a 40 foot RV. There are shade trees, some grass sites, some landscape rock sites, picnic tables, a gas firepit, and an onsite mini-store if you need. The owner waited for us until we arrived, helped us get our bearings, and then grew to be a friend. If you are needing to camp(even in a tent!) anywhere near Salmon, Idaho, you need to go and see Stewart at Elk Bend RV Park. Say hi to the deer that roam the area, too, or walk across the street and listen to the Salmon River. Just a beautiful area! Sites with full hookups and not. Would not hesitate to recommend Elk Bend RV Park.

    Pet Friendly!

Nice place to stop on road trip

We stopped here to sleep on our way to Glacier NP. It was easy to find but off the main road and quiet. Very clean campsites with fire pits and trash cans. We drove around the campsite before we left, all the sites were camper trailer friendly and had grassy areas for tents. All for $5

River's Fork Lodge & RV Park

    Hidden Gem

What an unbelievable place. Found this place on a total random pick. I was actually a little concerned about the cell/WiFi ability with being so potential remote. When we booked our RV spot with Porter he mentioned that Verizon cell service wasn’t very good but they did offer free WiFi which was extremely important as my wife needed it for work. When we arrived we found zero cell service but the WiFi was a savor. Now depending of what your here for no cell and WiFi could be just fine, I surely enjoyed the seclusion and being disconnected from the world.

We stayed in site #2 pretty close to the lodge which I think helped with the WiFi signal. The sites are large and easily fit our 28’ trailer and truck. Definitely could fit any size class A rig. There are full hookups at each site 20, 30, and 50amp at each site as well I believe. Not sure if you can get any closer to the river. The back of the trailer was probably less than 10 ft. to the river. Outstanding view.

The fishing was spot on, right on the river you don’t have to even drive anywhere if you don’t want. They also offer kayak rentals. Unfortunately I didn’t realize how warm, calm, and popular the river was. Next time we come back we will definitely float the river.

If there was really anything they could add, would possibly be something for kids to do. Just as a family of four with a 3 and 6 year old, they can only fish so much.

But over all 5 star, unfortunately this place won’t stay a hidden gem for much longer, can’t wait to come back. A huge thanks to Porter again!

    Wagonhammer RV Park & Campground

Nestled in by the Salmon River

This is a cozy little campground about 20 minutes outside Salmon, ID. It's located directly on the Salmon River. It's a well-run site, is clean and has full hookups, laundry, a store, etc... If you're traveling north along the Salmon River, it's a good place to spend the night before heading up over the pass towards Lolo and Missoula, MT. No cell service, but serviceable WiFi, and its location on the river is excellent for anglers and those looking to enjoy the river. Spaces are a little tight, and there are definitely other boondocking sites along the river in this area, Wagonhammer provides a nice spot for those looking for the comforts of home while nestled in the wilderness. It's a quiet, calm, and safe place for travelers staying in everything from tents to enormous RV's.

    Great little roadside park

$5 a night, no hookups or dump/water on site. Beautiful setting. Not great but usable Verizon and T-Mobile cell service. Loop is a bit tight in spots so I wouldn't recommend it for a large 5'er or motorhome.

Vigilante Campground — Bannack State Park

    Beautiful small camp

Nestled next to an old ghost town with a creek flowing around it. No att coverage, super quiet. No hook ups. Vault toilets, community water faucet. Plenty of room for our 30’ trailer and truck. Just empty your tanks and fill up on water, food and supplies in Dillon. Heavily shaded. Bring a generator to charge you bank, though I felt bad about running them because of the disruption in the serenity.

As the previous camper indicated, this is a quiet and lovely Campground. Please note I found only one site with electrical hookup. Currently, there is no water at any sites. Vault toilets are located throughout. Fees are $12 with $6 discount if you have Federal/Natl Park Golden Pass.

    Fantastic

This is a beautiful campground at higher elevation. The wildflowers were amazing in early July. There were a good amount of spots for tents and rvs. Its up high in elevation so it's hard work on the engine towing a trailer up there but worth it to take it slow. Vault toilets were clean and you can hand pump drinking water. A really lovely place!

A relaxing soak and a spacious site

This private Hotsprings has two pools - ine about 97 degrees ( large and inviting), the second is smaller and hotter at 107!

located about 7 miles from Challis it has great lawn areas for tents, and shaded RV sites along the Salmon River. Playground. Showers.

bring your mountain bike or running shoes for a relaxing ride or run on the country access roads.

    Challis Hot Springs

    Everything but the kitchen sink

This place has it ALLLLL. Tent sites, RV sites w/electric and water, dry sites; boat ramp; playground, volleyball net, clothes lines, hot springs pools(2!); showers; camp store with ice; WiFi; wildlife(two mountain goats lead me in on the road); walking trail; shade trees(no hammocks allowed). And it is next to the Snake river. Seriously?? Ok, so the tent sites are really close to the RV sites, but with electric there aren’t any generators running. And the pools close at 9pm, which seems kinda early when the sun doesn’t set until almost 9:30. But I get it. And you are close to the town of Challis with two grocery stores and two gas stations and a Family Dollar. If you can’t find what you need, you probably don’t need it. Besides, you are going to spend all of your time in the water or playing land games. The bathrooms and showers are open 24hrs a day so you don’t even have to use the porta potties scattered around the property if you don’t want to.

    Beautiful!

Large, flat sites - many of which are right on the water.  Gorgeous views with the lakes nestled between mountains!  Plenty of space between sites.  Great hiking trail.  We didn't fish, but we watched others catch many trout out of kayaks with fly rods.  There were about ten sites (and the cabin) full while we were there over a weekend.  Vault toilets.  No hook-ups.  Long, bumpy road going in and out.

    Nice spot on river

We have done only boondocking but were tired and wanted proximity to town. A few spots left and asked for one on the river, which had its own deck. Kind of shocked it was $45 a night after so much free camping !

But nice to have hookups and our own deck looking over the river watching osprey fish

Host is a bit peculiar, almost grumpy but if you chat for a bit he’s actually a wealth of local folklore Quiet enough. And felt private from other campers , so on a 12 night trip it was worth it. Walked to dinner at Shady Nook My second pic is a drive we took on Shoup Rd

    Not for Digital Nomads

If you want complete solitude from the internet and TV this is the place for you to reconnect with nature. (see video)

Being new RV'ers we didn't do our due diligence before booking, we went by pictures and the park did their part.  They said poor internet and poor cell service we just didn't believe them.  There was internet at the office but it was 56k speed.

Having to run our company from the road, traveling with three kids under 5, 3 dogs and a cat, all over 5 we need to be able to work.

    Here's what we loved:

    • Beautiful and clean
    • Quiet and close to the river
    • Incredible dog area
    • Level parking
    • Staff was incredible

    We weren't fond of:

    • No cell service (AT&T & Sprint)
    • Poor WiFi

We gave this a 4-star review because it's exactly what it said it was and the staff was very kind.

If you are a digital nomad and stay here then go to Salmon (30-minute drive), turn left, and a few blocks down on your left is the public library.  It's the best wifi you'll find and you can access it from the street.

    Tower Rock Recreation Site

Nice place to call home for a couple of days!

This small campground is right along the highway so it has easy access... and some highway noise. It is small, but we were there by ourselves 2 of the 3 nights we stayed. Camp sites are well spaced with their own fire pits and picnic tables. The roads and campsites are paved. However, they had just cut the grass and weeds, which we appreciated, but they left all their clippings around the campsites, so we used our rake and broom to clean it up. The parking area for the small boat launch is nearby, so there were people around most mornings and evenings. This is right on the Salmon River so a good place to camp if fishing the Salmon. No cell phone reception for Verizon. There was an osprey nest right by our campsite which had some babies and parents which were interesting to watch.

Okay site on Salmon River--HOT in July

Simple campground along Salmon River--beautiful setting, with maybe 5 spaces, not all of which are marked well but do have picnic tables to indicate. Also a vault toilet at loop campground. Buggy, even with river flowing and slight wind. Free, which is nice. Can hear US93 traffic, but not bad considering neighbor ran generator which drowned out some noise.

    Good for a short trip

The campground is very open, a few patches of trees, but mostly it's bare. It sits right on the edge of the salmon River, and is only 15 minutes from town if you need supplies. The host of the campground is really nice too. It's got about 5 spots for camping, and a volleyball court, spot for horseshoes and a fairly open field perfect for any other activities.

I would say it's a better rec site than camping spot.

    Salmon river camping

Less than a dozen sites along a pretty bend in the Salmon River. The sites have picnic tables and grills and rock fire pits under a nice shady stand of cottonwoods. Try and get either the first or last spots as they have easy river access; the rest of the spots have little tunnels through the underbrush to get to the river. Clean vault toilet. Not much more you can ask for for free.

    Scenic and Peaceful

So close to a five star campground if it were not for the swarming mosquitoes anywhere in the shade. Grounds were well taken care of, owners so very nice and helpful, showers and restrooms spotless and free, great little laundry room, and cute gift shop. Lots of boat launches up and down river for kayaking.very peaceful. One down side was the lack of nice swimming area in the campground. Spots were side by side so little in the way of privacy. Wi-Fi was weak but worked. No cell service for Verizon. Nearest town with groceries etc. is in Salmon so stock up before you go.

    Changed reservations day of campout

Loved going to Challis with the group I belong with but will not be back. Day of campout my reservation was taken away and was told to park with another camper. I had to park on the road as all of the other campers were anchored down for the weekend. The spot was not set up for two trailers and was told he does not offer discounts. Was unable to use fire ring nor set up outside kitchen due to how I was parked. The only bright side was the group of sisters that provided the weekend of laughter.

    Beautiful and desolate

If you’re looking to get far off the beaten path, this is your spot. Vault toilets and trash, very small loop. Possible to fit 30’ trailer. Will be difficult to maneuver. Bit of a drive from Dillon and you’ll want to stock up on supplies. Dry camping for sure. Lots of trees and you’re over looking a like. Only one camp site was being used in early June. Gets real chilly at night and mornings. Long drive through cattle country on mostly dirt roads with plenty of cattle that cross in their time. I’d recommend going for several days, not just a 1 nighter. Plenty of fishing and hiking available. Drivable Forrest paths as well. Tons of wild life to spend time with.

Small campgound on Salmon river and highway

Shoup Bridge  Campground is a small Campground surrounding cottonwood trees along the banks of the Salmon River. It is also right along the Highway.  We found this a pleasant campground to stay in, plenty of flat ground for our tents and only $5 a night.  A few sites are quite small, but still room for a tent. This was our Scouts jumping off point for a backpacking trip the next day.  While next to the highway we expected a lot of noise during the night, but that was not our experience, the only real road noise we had was in the early morning with worked out as it helped wake us up.  Each site has a picnic table and metal fire ring.  Water is available and the area has a vault toilet and trash cans.  Campground has a boat launch.
