Best RV Parks & Resorts near Salmon, ID

Several RV parks accommodate motorhomes along the Salmon River corridor. Andreas on the River RV Park offers full hookups with 50-amp service and can handle larger rigs, operating from May through November. Century 2 Campground provides water, sewer, and electric connections at its sites from April to mid-October. Wagonhammer RV Park, located in North Fork, features 56 spacious sites with full hookups and accommodates big rigs despite some tight turns at entry points. Round Valley RV Park in Challis offers pull-through sites on gravel with ample spacing between units. "Big spaces in the middle area, smaller spots on the river," noted one camper about the Wagonhammer layout.

Between Salmon and North Fork, cellular coverage varies significantly, with some parks offering WiFi to compensate for limited cell service. During summer months, advance reservations are strongly recommended as riverside sites fill quickly. Many parks provide sanitary dump stations, though not all offer on-site propane service. Pet-friendly policies are common throughout the area, with some parks featuring dedicated pet areas. When traveling through this mountainous region, RVers should be prepared for occasional steep grades and narrow roads. According to one visitor, "Navigation into the park requires crossing a narrow bridge, so watch your sides if pulling a camper."

    Elk Bend RV Park

    Peaceful and Idyllic

We set up our daughter in our Super C here for 2 months while she worked in nearby Salmon during the busy season. We were so happy with the beautiful scenery, quiet grounds, and excellent service from the owner. If she ever needed anything, they were happy to help. There is a clean laundry room, showers, and bathrooms onsite, and more than enough space for a 40 foot RV. There are shade trees, some grass sites, some landscape rock sites, picnic tables, a gas firepit, and an onsite mini-store if you need. The owner waited for us until we arrived, helped us get our bearings, and then grew to be a friend. If you are needing to camp(even in a tent!) anywhere near Salmon, Idaho, you need to go and see Stewart at Elk Bend RV Park. Say hi to the deer that roam the area, too, or walk across the street and listen to the Salmon River. Just a beautiful area! Sites with full hookups and not. Would not hesitate to recommend Elk Bend RV Park.

    Pet Friendly!

    South Van Houten Campground

    Lovely lakeside camping for free!

Nice small camping area with about 5 sites, complete with picnic tables and fire rings with grills. It was a fairly long drive down a somewhat road but wide gravel road, but I did see a truck with a big fifth wheel on it, so you can definitely do it!

Fishing in lake, just no motorized boats. Pit toilets. Pretty area!

    Round Valley RV Park

    Quiet & Clean

On a motorcycle trip through Idaho and this place met my needs. It is close to town but no noise from the highway. It was walking distance to grocery store and gas station. Check in was fast and rates are reasonable for tent site. I had a site with power and water. It was close to the bath house. Overall, a great place for a nights stay on the road.

River's Fork Lodge & RV Park

    Hidden Gem

What an unbelievable place. Found this place on a total random pick. I was actually a little concerned about the cell/WiFi ability with being so potential remote. When we booked our RV spot with Porter he mentioned that Verizon cell service wasn’t very good but they did offer free WiFi which was extremely important as my wife needed it for work. When we arrived we found zero cell service but the WiFi was a savor. Now depending of what your here for no cell and WiFi could be just fine, I surely enjoyed the seclusion and being disconnected from the world.

We stayed in site #2 pretty close to the lodge which I think helped with the WiFi signal. The sites are large and easily fit our 28’ trailer and truck. Definitely could fit any size class A rig. There are full hookups at each site 20, 30, and 50amp at each site as well I believe. Not sure if you can get any closer to the river. The back of the trailer was probably less than 10 ft. to the river. Outstanding view.

The fishing was spot on, right on the river you don’t have to even drive anywhere if you don’t want. They also offer kayak rentals. Unfortunately I didn’t realize how warm, calm, and popular the river was. Next time we come back we will definitely float the river.

If there was really anything they could add, would possibly be something for kids to do. Just as a family of four with a 3 and 6 year old, they can only fish so much.

But over all 5 star, unfortunately this place won’t stay a hidden gem for much longer, can’t wait to come back. A huge thanks to Porter again!

    Sam Billings Memorial Campground

    The best in SW Montana

12 sites with good tables and fire rings. This is a well maintained NFS campground. 3 vault toilets that are kept clean. Sites #1 & #2 get the most sun, are the largest, and can accommodate any size RV. The remaining sites vary in size. #2 can easily hold 5 full size trucks side by side, or three medium size trailers/5th wheels with their tow vehicles. It also has 3 large tables, plenty of open ground for tents, and is ideal for large groups and families. Toilets are located across from site 3, between 5/6, across from 12. #7 is low ground camping you walk down to with minimal shade and perfect for hot weather days.

The exit is at site 12, one way travel thru the campground. Across the street from the exit is the entry to sites 1-4 horse camping. Small sites with table, fire ring, and enough room for a small tent. There are 3 large metal structures with 3 chains each for horses and 2 horizontal tie out bars. No room to park horse trailers on that pull thru. One trailer spot across from site 4 by the “stock water trail” sign, the rest can park 50 yards down the road at the trail head/turn around. There are 2 additional tie out areas here for horses and plenty of room for horse trailers and several other vehicles.

Be sure to read the notice above the envelope box before you pay. From weather dependent dates chosen by the Rangers there is no cost from late Oct to late May. Otherwise it is $10 per night, $5 with golden or access passes.

No cell service, only 1 mile to the paved road, Ranger station is only about 1/2 mile down that paved road. The Rangers are proactive in sharing any important information such as severe weather, bear activity, or any other notable activity.

Details: Ranger station on the main road less than a mike from the entrance. They show up once a week Ravialli county sheriff is who to call on weekends and holidays, they will respond Be bear aware in season Equestrian specific campsites Trailhead next to the CG So much firewood laying around There are some karens that have been “coming here my whole life” and think they own the place; avoid Only three site requires walking access, the rest are drive right in to. Only a few sites so if its great weather or holiday show up mid week or even a week ahead if you can Free stays out of season, otherwise it’s a daily fee, pay at the entrance sign

    Sula Country Store and Resort

    Nicest, cleanest, friendliest

I was camping at a nearby national park site that had a flyer for Camp Sula, saying that if you show the receipt from your stay you can use Camp Sulas shower, laundry facilities and wifi at no cost. I arrived there and the ladies working in the combination store/restaurant/gas and coffee station were so friendly and down to earth. I was given a towel and shampoo/conditioner for the shower, they had complimentary and coin washing machines, and coin dryers, all very efficient. After my shower and waiting for clothes to dry, I walked around the camp, the log cabins are adorable and cozy, each has its own porch, picnic table and adjacent fire pit. There is free put-put golf, horseshoes, tetherball and a small well stocked fishing pond with benches to watch the action or simply admire the beauty of the surroundings. It is close to the main highway but tucked back enough you feel "away" from the bustle. I enjoyed myself so much I inquired about camping there for the night & I would only need a parking space because I sleep in my truck bed canopy. They were full (accommodates RVs and tents) but offered a makeshift spot right by the creek. It was perfect. Because of COVID, they had limited reservations for dinner, and practiced social distancing and requested patrons wear masks. Not everyone participated with their request but were equally treated with kindness and respect. I highly recommend their breakfast, big fluffy pancakes and local meats. They kept the restaurant, showers & bathroom & store very very clean. The location is a landmark, the Lewis and Clark expedition camped there on their way to discover the west. I highly recommend them

    North Van Houten Campground

    Nice fishing lake

Nice little campsite near a small, quiet fishing lake. About 5 sites here with a pit toilet. No cell service. 10 mile rocky road in, but saw a fifth wheel, so its not impassable by any means! There’s also South Van Houten on the other side, but I can’t imagine this serene little patch of heaven gets too full. Saw folks swimming, fishing, and boating in the lake.

Nestled in by the Salmon River

This is a cozy little campground about 20 minutes outside Salmon, ID. It's located directly on the Salmon River. It's a well-run site, is clean and has full hookups, laundry, a store, etc... If you're traveling north along the Salmon River, it's a good place to spend the night before heading up over the pass towards Lolo and Missoula, MT. Wagonhammer RV Park & Campground

    Scenic and Peaceful

So close to a five star campground if it were not for the swarming mosquitoes anywhere in the shade. Grounds were well taken care of, owners so very nice and helpful, showers and restrooms spotless and free, great little laundry room, and cute gift shop. Lots of boat launches up and down river for kayaking.very peaceful. One down side was the lack of nice swimming area in the campground. Spots were side by side so little in the way of privacy. Wi-Fi was weak but worked. No cell service for Verizon. Nearest town with groceries etc. is in Salmon so stock up before you go.
