Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Niceville, FL

Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park Campground permits pets across all 42 campsites, with sites 29-36 offering direct bayou views popular among dog owners. The park maintains strict leash rules requiring pets to be on a maximum 6-foot lead at all times. Spacious, rail-fenced sites provide ample room for RVs with pets, while the clean facilities include hot showers and laundry convenient for longer stays with animals. Bathrooms at this pet-friendly park are exceptionally well-maintained, with several reviewers noting the cleanliness as a standout feature. Water and electric hookups are available at each site, with the campground operating year-round and maintaining gated access after dark for added security. Sites are well-shaded with plenty of trees providing natural cooling for pets during hot Florida days.

The campground connects to several pet-accessible hiking trails through longleaf pine forests, providing moderate exercise options for dogs. Sites near the waterfront allow easy access for dog swimming in designated areas of Rocky Bayou. Niceville's location provides convenient access to pet supply stores within a 10-minute drive, while the campground is approximately 25-30 minutes from Destin's dog-friendly beaches. The heavily wooded sites offer protection from summer heat but require attention to wildlife encounters, as black bears have been spotted in the park. Nearby Eglin AFB - Post'l Point FamCamp also permits pets with water/electric hookups and bayfront views, though some visitors note the camp host can be less accommodating toward pet owners. Both campgrounds enforce quiet hours to minimize barking disturbances.

Fort Pickens Campground — Gulf Islands National Seashore

    Good but not very private

We went tent camping for two nights with our pups at Fort Pickens and we really did enjoy it. The campground was nice and clean. They had nice showers and potties as well. The showers in the RV section have better shower heads btw. The beaches are gorgeous! A tip for travelers with pets, FL does not allow dogs on their beaches accept in specific "dog park" locations. Our dogs are not.. eh, normal .. so we ended up driving down to a private beach so they could enjoy the ocean. There is a lot of night life but We decided to skip that this trip. We enjoyed the beaches in the park at night and i highly recommend it! All in all we enjoyed our trip but we probably won't be back to Fort Pickens campground. The sites are very close together and we had a very nosey and drunk neighbor who really wanted to chat. We camp to get away from people, just saying. We were also bothered by RV and truck lights shining directly into our tent both nights from people driving through the campground. Not the best but we enjoyed camping at the beach.

    Raccoon River Campground

An adventurous paradise away from the ocean paradise

I have read a lot of the reviews. I think some of these people had other issues that caused them to give a bad review. Yes, this is known as a cat haven but with people who have dogs should stay in the dog parks, If they don't accept a place that cannot turn a blind eye to cats. This is an RV park and a campground and I'm not sure why people would expect more luxury than the outdoors experience. This is a beautiful getaway away from the ocean but right next door, and people would love this place if they knew the history behind it and maybe honor it a little bit more. The impact from people that don't like this place gives it a bad reputation. Why listen to someone who don't want you to know about the experience? Just want you to know what they think about it. This is a great place and there are a lot of hardworking, honest people. This is not just a campground, people are residents here and have been here a long time, some would even call it home. There's nothing wrong with anything about this place. It is a wonderful place to be.

    A Cozy Corner RV Lodge

    Quaint RV Park!

Easy check in online. FHU-some shade, level concrete pad, picnic table. Easily backed in our 40 ft Montana. Very clean bathrooms, didn’t use just looked. Washer and dryer, and nice dog park. Close to lots of stores and restaurants, 20-30 min from beaches depending on traffic. Some traffic noise, since it’s next to a main road.

    River's Edge RV Campground

    Swampy!

We arrived and everything was dry. The next morning, our site had literally turned into a pond. By the time I finished packing up to leave, I literally looked like I jumped in the river with all of my clothes on. Haha I guess that’s camping in Florida for ya. The park was nice overall. The bathrooms were okay. Full hookups and lots of trees so our service was a little spotty.

    Pelican Palms RV Park

    Easy spot off the highway.

This camp ground is growing so there was quite a bit of construction debris around, but looking past that. This spot is literally right off Hwy 10 at exit 26 making it convenient for travelers. I would not recommend this campsite for true "camping". On ground fires are not allowed and there are no trails or walking areas. There is a small dog park but it is not really a "park". The Pool looked nice, but was closed. Nice shower house with great shower pressure. Probably 50/50 on folks living there and those just stopping through. I stayed 3 nights during the week, it was very quiet. The price is great for the location close to beaches, rivers and city. Not the prettiest camp ground, but if you just want to park your rig while you hit the beach, good choice.

    Pensacola Beach RV Resort

    Not Happy this stay

This is our 3rd time here we pay a lot of extra money for premium site only to find out that they have a tiki bar directly behind us . Partly spoiling our view but the worst part is lots of people walking through our site to get to bar . This includes workers at bar pulling through supplies on carts . People drunk outside our camper cursing and swearing at night . We came for beautiful relaxing time not happening . The place looks lovely and we have enjoyed it immensely until this time . Also people not using dog park and dogs shitting on our premium site . Next to us had a family that had 4 RVs and they all congregated at the one beside us taking over part of our lot . I couldn’t hardly use my outdoor shower without 20 or more people there . This place has really changed . We won’t be back will look in destin probably for the future.

Guide to Niceville

Rocky Bayou State Park is situated at the northern edge of Niceville with direct access to Choctawhatchee Bay. The park sits at approximately 10 feet above sea level with summer temperatures typically ranging from 75-95°F and high humidity from June through September. Winter camping conditions are mild with daytime temperatures averaging 50-65°F, making it one of the more comfortable dog friendly campgrounds near Niceville for year-round visits.

What to do

Kayaking on Rocky Bayou: Rent equipment on-site to explore the protected waters with fewer crowds than ocean beaches. "We rented a kayak from the campground with a friend. Spent most of the day exploring the bayou. Pretty sure we spotted a bald eagle but didn't have binoculars to confirm," notes a visitor at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park Campground.

Beach access at Henderson Beach: Located 25 minutes from Niceville, this state park offers clean white sand beaches with less congestion than public beaches. "You are in the middle of Destin but this place is gorgeous and quiet. The sites are luscious and private. Walking path to a beautiful beach," reports a camper at Henderson Beach State Park Campground.

Hiking at Topsail Hill Preserve: Explore coastal dune lakes and forested trails throughout the 1,640-acre preserve. "Good trails, coastal dunes with lakes, fishing, paddling, beach, cabins, and tent camping including Glamping!" shares a reviewer from Topsail Hill Preserve State Park.

Boating at Legion Park: Located just a mile from Geronimo RV Resort, this county park offers free boat launching facilities. "About a mile away is Legion Park, a county park with a boat launch, picnic areas with grills, and a playground. We used this park daily to launch our paddle craft."

What campers like

Private, well-maintained sites: Most Niceville area campgrounds feature spacious campsites with good separation. "Our site was level and had privacy from the neighboring sites, with electric, water and sewer hookups! Easy walk to Western Lake - some sites even back up to the lake," explains a camper at Grayton Beach State Park Campground.

Exceptional shower facilities: Pet-friendly campgrounds near Niceville consistently receive praise for clean facilities. "I was so impressed with this campground. The bathrooms (all of them) were well cleaned. Showers have plenty of room and I loved their washer/dryer set up too," notes a visitor to Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park.

Natural surroundings close to conveniences: The area provides woodlands while staying near amenities. "There is a potable water faucet and a two plug 30 amp electrical outlet at each site," mentions a Topsail Hill camper who adds, "I love this place. Checked in Friday and extended my stay from 2 nights to 7 nights. I'm enjoying the solitude."

Military camping options: Two Eglin AFB campgrounds provide affordable options for service members. "Coming up on our 3rd trip from Northeast Mississippi to Camp Robbins. For the price, location and security I would give it five stars," shares a visitor to Eglin AFB FamCamp - Camp Robbins.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Secure sites 6-11 months in advance, especially for winter stays. "This is a hard location to get a site. Reservations have to be made far in advance. There is good privacy in the campground, with thick brush and trees separating the sites," advises a camper at Grayton Beach State Park.

Varying pet policies at beaches: County and state beaches have different rules for pets. "Dogs are not allowed on the beach in the county so this was a great place for her to play and swim," notes a visitor about using Legion Park as an alternative swimming spot for dogs.

Weather considerations: Be prepared for sudden weather changes. "We stayed at Camp Robbins for 30 days. The only reason this is not a 5 star rating is due to the potential for flooding. Definitely need to ensure your rig stays on the gravel pads. Low/soft ground all around," warns a camper at Eglin AFB - Post'l Point FamCamp.

Military aircraft noise: Eglin Air Force Base operations create regular noise. "Camp Robbins is located just south of Eglins airfield so if roaring and screaming fighter jets first thing in the morning is not for you scratch this camp off your list. On the other hand if roaring jets don't bother you then you'll probably enjoy the free airshow every morning."

Tips for camping with families

Protected swimming areas: Western Lake at Grayton Beach provides calm waters for children. "You can walk to one of the best beaches in the United States," shares a visitor who adds, "This is one of our favorite places. The sites are huge and shaded."

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds feature kid-friendly play areas. "Park has boating ramp to the bayou. Close to beaches in Destin, yet away from the hustle and bustle. Park rangers, gated entry after dark, and campground hosts make this park safe and enjoyable for families," explains a camper at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou.

Educational opportunities: Nature programs run regularly at state parks. "Located across the street from the beach access is Topsail Hill Preserve State Park which has around 20 miles of trails," notes a visitor who found this ideal for family nature exploration.

Camp near amenities: Choose sites close to bathhouses when camping with children. "We stayed in site 44 and it was private and near the bathrooms. All the sites had gravel, a picnic table, and a fire pit as well as a clothesline. There's a path to the beach from the bathhouse," shares a family at Camp On The Gulf.

Tips from RVers

Site selection for larger rigs: Sites at Fred Gannon can accommodate large RVs but require planning. "The nicest campground we've stayed at. Washer/dryer. Clean restrooms. Safe. Very pretty views," notes a camper.

Travel between campgrounds and beaches: Account for traffic when planning trips to the shore. "In order to get to the beach we had to cross a major thoroughfare. The traffic was horrible and there are no sidewalks that allow us to make it to a crosswalk," warns a visitor at Destin West RV Resort.

Hookup quality: Most Niceville area campgrounds feature reliable utilities. "Beautiful RV park that backs up to the bay and across the street from the beach. All paved sites, very clean and well groomed full hook up sites," shares a Destin West RV Resort visitor.

Space considerations: Site dimensions vary significantly between parks. "You are right on the ocean front. Power and water only. Spacious sites. Great laundry facilities," mentions a visitor to Eglin AFB - Post'l Point FamCamp.
