Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park Campground

    Awesome campground and facilities!

We stayed here a couple of years ago while visiting family and friends in Lake City, about 20 miles away.  I was very impressed with the facilities, very clean and well kept.  Site 19 is a long pull through with plenty of room for a big rig and tow vehicle.  Picnic table and fire ring available.  Beautiful trees with Spanish moss give the park that old Florida feel.  This is Florida, so expect humidity and some bugs.  Not a lot of breeze at our site but very shady.  Staff was very courteous and helpful, work campers rode by occasionally and would carry off trash if needed.  There is a nice museum and camp store/gift shop onsite also.  Cell service was good, didn't try the tv.  There is no big stores nearby, just a Dollar General in White Springs near the entrance.  Definitely a thumbs up.

    Perry KOA

One of the Best KOA/Private Campgrounds We've Stayed

The campground(CG) was easy to find. Check-in was quick and very friendly and we headed to back-in site E-27 for our overnight stay. This premium site is probably one of the most spacious in the CG, especially on the utilities side, where a swing bench looks out to a huge field. There was a nice patio, furniture, and propane grill that unfortunately, due to the January cold weather snap, we did not get to use. There’s a large tree on this site, so satellite could be iffy, but they have cable TV, plus you get a good amount of OTA channels. The sites in this KOA are well-spaced in comparison to others we’ve stayed in the past. They have a nice camp store that even has a humidor with cigars. They also seem to be the town’s“go-to” place for propane fills. Water pressure was good at about 50 PSI, and we got 3 bars on Verizon. We were in the far back corner of the CG and had to carefully plan our departure to avoid tight turns and other campers departing to get to the exit. Perry has your major amenities. Get a site in the back area away from the road noise. As this was easily one of the best KOAs and private CGs we’ve stayed in, we would definitely come back.

    Suwannee River State Park Campground

Wonderful option for tent or rv camping

Electric and water hook ups. Camping sites are large enough for 2 tents. Shaded well. There’s a decent boat ramp with over flow parking for the truck and trailer. Great for kayaking and Small boating. Trails are great for hiking and a few for mountain biking. Neat cemetery back in the grass lands near ranger station, lots of tortoises to see. Pet friendly for domestic pets. Ranger station was very helpful and knowledgeable about trails for longer distance biking. Wood for sale. Hot water bath house as well. Site has picnic tables. Very clean area.

Dogwood Campground — O'Leno State Park

    Lovely, older state park

The roads and campsites are a bit narrow since this was built long ago before big rigs, but we didn’t have any trouble navigating with our 30’ travel trailer. The campsites are relatively level and have beautiful trees and scenery. There’s a good bit of distance between you and your neighbor which is always nice. The campsites have electricity and water and there is a dump station on-site. We only stayed a few days in January 2019 to visit some friends in the Gainesville area, but would love to come back to explore the area more. Easy access to the park and to Gainesville. We had good internet service for AT&T and Verizon. From the park, you can see the Santa Fe River flow below the ground to the Santa Fe sink. Overall, it was a very nice state park and we will definitely stay again.

    Strawberry Fields for RV'ers

    Great site while passing through.

Strawberry Fields for RVers has lots of potential. It's a clean and well kept area for RVs to park and stay for a few nights. Nice and quiet. The laundry and bathhouse are impeccable, we look forward to the owners building more in the expanded areas. This park looks to have long term construction so there may be some noise at times. We will certainly be returning as this is the best location for transiting to central Florida while staying off the interstates. Sites have full hookups but missing picnic tables.

    Lake Park Campground

    Nice campground

The roads and sites are paved. The wifi is not bad, but no cable TV if that is important. The staff is nice. Grounds are kept up well. The trees are beautiful here with the Spanish moss. Kind of pricey for the limited amenities. The sites are also a little snug for big rigs, but doable. Would stay again

Madison RV Resort and Golf Course

    Enjoyable, quiet and well-kept

Very nice resort. We don’t golf (this was the closest place to our grandkids!) so I can’t speak about the golf course. The RV resort is wonderful! Friendly and polite staff and neighbors. Clean laundry and bathhouse. A large dog park. My only suggestion would be to divide the park into “little dogs, big dog” sections. Big rig friendly. We would most definitely recommend this resort!

    Moonshine Acres RV Park

    New campground with great amenities

Stayed on site 115. No tree coverage or shade, but a nice site. Full hook up & well maintained. Campground is new & facilities look like it. Well maintained & the sites are all well manicured. An off leash dog park, 24hr rec room, general store, and restroom facilities. Would definitely recommend if in the area.

Guide to Mayo

RV campgrounds near Mayo, Florida provide visitors access to the Suwannee River region with its limestone terrain and natural springs. Most sites sit on crushed limestone gravel pads that drain well during Florida's rainy seasons. Summer temperatures typically range from 75-95°F with high humidity, while winter nights can occasionally drop into the 30s, making fall through spring the peak camping season.

What to do

Spring swimming and tubing opportunities: Hart Springs Park features a large swimming area with year-round 72-degree water. "The springs here are gorgeous and the swimming area is large. We came in the winter and it was a bit cold to swim, but there are plenty of boardwalks around the rec side of the park to tour the sights," notes Jessica C. from Hart Springs Park.

Wildlife observation along boardwalks: Many campgrounds connect to natural areas via short trails. "There's a boardwalk that makes a big loop against the river where we have see owls hawks and other large wildlife," explains Bri F. about Hart Springs Park's riverside ecosystem.

Paddling the Suwannee River: Kayak or canoe trips are easily arranged from waterfront campgrounds. "We tubed the lower portion of the Ichetucknee with the included access to the neighborhoods private park entrance and pickup. Kayaking up river to sunbeam spring was awesome. We saw turtles and otters," shares Jerry H. from Camp Clear Riverfront RV.

What campers like

Private waterfront access: Waterfront sites at The Old Pavilion RV Park provide direct Gulf of Mexico views. "It literally backs up to the gulf. If we got any closer, we would be IN it. I can't explain how beautiful the sunset is here," explains Dan F. The park offers full hookups with both vehicle and boat access.

Off-grid relaxation away from crowds: Smaller campgrounds provide quiet retreats. "This spot is a little slice of heaven. Located in the country and off the beaten path, be sure to have everything you need before you arrive. All sites are beautiful," shares BA K. about Camping out in Country, adding, "If you are looking for a place to get away from it all, have absolute peace and quiet except for the occasional sounds of farm animals and crickets, this place is for you."

Pet-friendly facilities: Many rv campgrounds near Mayo prioritize dog amenities. "A huge bonus for us was their large (about 2 acres) fenced dog park. This year they fenced off an area for small dogs," notes MickandKarla W. about Madison RV Resort and Golf Course. Moonshine Acres RV Park also features a designated off-leash dog area.

What you should know

Cell service limitations: Connectivity varies widely between campgrounds. "WiFi is better than normal for this sized CG and we got two bars on Verizon. We had clear shots of the southern or northern sky for satellite and several OTA channels," reports MickandKarla W. about Madison RV Resort and Golf Course.

Limited shopping options: Most rv campgrounds in the Mayo area require preparation. "Located in the country and off the beaten path, be sure to have everything you need before you arrive," advises one camper. Valdosta, GA is approximately 30 minutes from Madison with major retailers.

River flooding concerns: Some springs and riverside campgrounds experience closures during high water periods. "We were camping here in March and we were not able to enjoy the springs because they were having a brown out," notes Vanessa B., who still found "plenty to do like walk the trails, enjoy the pool or visit the many different springs that are very near to your location."

Tips for camping with families

Plan spring visits for swimming: Water activities are most comfortable in warmer months. "Our favorite time to visit is the off season with cold nights warm days and the least bugs. Hart gets pretty busy during the hot months but still worth the visit," advises Bri F.

Consider splash pads as alternatives: Some campgrounds offer water play options besides springs. "The spring itself is really nicely kept and they have a small but very nice splash pad for the kids," reports Danielle C. about Hart Springs Park.

Bring entertainment for rainy days: Recreation buildings provide indoor options during afternoon thunderstorms. "Pool house is fantastic and very nice for entertaining on rainy days," mentions Brooke about Moonshine Acres RV Park, which also features a clubhouse with games and a jukebox.

Tips from RVers

Arrive with full propane tanks: Limited propane services exist in the immediate Mayo area. Most RV parks don't offer on-site fills, though Madison RV Resort provides propane tank pickup service when arranged with management.

Book waterfront sites well in advance: Premium spots at The Old Pavilion RV Park fill quickly. "We got lucky & got lot 17, a waterfront site. It was absolutely amazing! The sunsets were breathtaking," shares Jackie A.

Test leveling equipment before arrival: Some sites require additional leveling. "The center sites seem more level than the outer ring of sites. We started at site 26 and moved to site 68 because we couldn't level out on the sandy ground," reports Kelsey G. about Moonshine Acres RV Park.
