Best RV Parks & Resorts near Laurel, FL

Several RV resorts serve the Laurel area of Florida with year-round accommodations. Encore Royal Coachman in Nokomis provides full hookup sites with 50-amp service, water, and sewer connections on paved pads suitable for big rigs. "Very tight quarters. Fulls hook-ups which was nice," noted one visitor about nearby Encore Ramblers Rest in Venice, which accommodates RVs between permanent mobile homes with some sites backing up to the Myakka River. Encore Harbor Lakes in Port Charlotte features level pull-through RV sites with 50-amp electric service, though RVs are often situated between permanent residences. Sites at Pleasant Lake RV Resort in Bradenton support large motorhomes with full hookups, while Encore Winter Quarters Manatee positions RVs around a central lake.

Access to most parks requires careful navigation of narrow interior roads, particularly for larger motorhomes and fifth wheels. During winter months, these Florida RV parks reach maximum capacity with seasonal residents and advance reservations become essential, often requiring booking 3-6 months ahead. According to reviews from The Dyrt, highway noise affects some parks, particularly Winter Quarters Manatee which sits adjacent to I-75 with "noisy all the time" conditions. Most parks provide sanitary dump stations, laundry facilities, and swimming pools. Pet policies vary between resorts, with some implementing breed or size restrictions. Cell service remains consistently strong throughout the region, and proximity to urban centers ensures easy access to propane refills, groceries, and RV supplies within short driving distances.

Palmetto Ridge Campground — Myakka River State Park

    Enormous park

I’m staying in the Palmetto Ridge loop which is the only paved loop & I think the only one w/sewer. The Big Flats & Old Prairie loops are gravel road, tight, no privacy & very small sites like for popups, vans or small campers. The Palmetto Ridge pull thrus are gigantic. I would say the vegetation gives semi privacy but they aren’t on top of each other so it’s not like you’re looking right at your neighbor. There is a picnic table & a fire ring. Gravel sites but pretty level. My site was 50 amp. Not sure how many are. Bath house & laundry facility appears clean. Pet friendly. The outpost is literally like 3 miles into the park down from the entrance & Palmetto loop. The store was nice & there was a food truck. It was a little spendy but good food. The river was low so the kayak rental & boat tours were shut down. Tons of great hiking & even some elevated bridges for site seeing. Tons of gators, birds, deer etc. There is also a scenic drive in the park, a “fisherman’s loop” & a few picnic areas. There are cabins to rent but I didn’t see them. Also never saw a playground if you have kids. Very dark & quiet at night.

    Sea Isle Resort

    Convenient to Matlacha

Our stay here was a bit weird. Since it was March in Florida (and nearly impossible to find available campsites unless you reserved 11 months in advance), we called ahead to see if there was room. When Carl learned we only had a 17-foot camper van, he agreed to “fit us in”. Yes, there was a slot that we backed into and we had room to erect our screen room on the concrete pad next to our van but there was absolutely NO privacy between sites. Many of the people here were long-term residents and not generally vacationing campers. Although information says the rates range from $30-$60 per night, we paid $50, cash only. There were no restrooms on-site, but we were able to use the clean restrooms at the county park across the street (but had to make a mad dash across the busy road to get there). It suited our needs for two nights to enjoy small and quirky Matlacha, including walking distance to kayaking opportunities, but we wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

    Horseshoe Cove RV Resort

    Great short or long stay

I live local and have been staying here in the pull through area a month until I transition to 100% travel trailer life. I have 2 50 lb+ dogs and there are many other people with dogs, plus a dog park. Park is very well kept, beautiful gym, pool, hot tub, and private island on backside to fish and other games like horseshoes. Love this place! Maintenance is A M A Z I N G!!!!!!!! I will be staying here again for short and extended periods and feel more than comfortable to recommend to friends and family. Laundry facilities and bathrooms are fine too. Dryers dry a full load of towels in one cycle, was pretty impressive! Also plenty of area to ride a bike a couple times around the park. It is also close to gas, grocery store and really good restaurants. Two thumbs up!!!

    Myakka River RV Resort

    Low Key Campground

We stayed here for a week and overall it’s a solid, no frills place to stay. Level & compact sites with concrete patio pads. Our site backed right up to the marsh, which had a lot of birds & wildlife. There’s a pool, laundry, fenced dog area, and WiFi (for an extra fee). Verizon cell service was solid & always had connection. Mostly long term residents here but they are really friendly & helpful.

    MacDill AFB FamCamp

    Utilitarian

No surprise on a military base but felt like a campground equivalent of base housing. Tight spots with full hook ups. Lots of snow birds, so getting in was a challenge. We had to show up without a reservation and take advantage of first come, first serve spots.

Full hook up (electric/water/sewer) and cable. No wifi (so weak it didn't work) and cell coverage almost non-existent (AT&T).

Close to a small beach and marina with a restaurant walking distance. Several dog parks but muddy/dirt. Laundry available for fee. Bath houses clean and large.

Good amenities on base. Gym not too far and massive.

Make sure you arrive at the base through the gate at the end of Dale Mabry, as it's the only gate campers can come thru. And be sure to go to the far right lane, even if it's got a red X showing the lane is closed. They will open the wider lane for you. You don't want to know why I know that or how close our Airstream was to the guard shacks if you don't go in the far lane!

    Fort De Soto Campground

    LOVE, LOVE, LOVE

I loved** Fort De Soto State Park**, Florida! My favorite for this trip as far as location and atmosphere . But this may be because I seldom visit the beach type campgrounds and it’s something unique to me. If you don’t like sand in everything you may not pick this as your favorite;)

In the campground there are two loops. Most of the outer sites in each area had access to the water, some had direct access where people parked their watercraft for their visit.

In the first loop all the middle sites were long and pull through with a screen of foliage between each site. Suited for the bigger rigs. The second loop had smaller sites and the road was a little “skinnier” more for pop ups and tents. It was a little more crowded in the middle sites and less of a foliage screen between sites.

Overall both areas were very Gilligan’s Island homey if you were on a cruise ship that ran aground and everyone made their “homes” in the same area ;) It is a well maintained area with centrally located facilities. There is an inlet for fishing and short trail within easy walking distance or you can strike out on the long paved trail.

Recreationally speaking aside from the water sports there was a hike/ bike trail the entire length of the park with access to several beach areas and fishing piers. Then there is the Fort to explore if you like your history and a ferry service within the park. Another thing was a triathlon going on while we visited at the far end of the park, the swim portion would have been a definite challenge, the bike was on flat roads and I didn’t see the run portion but if it was on the sand that would be a workout!

I saved the best for last (in my opinion) there is a TOTALLY AWESOME DOG BEACH which was definitely the main reason I picked the park to visit. A nice stretch of beach where my dogs had an excellent time playing in the water, weeds and sand. There are two fenced dog parks with seats, shade and dog wash areas to rinse off the sand before heading back out. All of this is very close to a touristy area with coffee shops, fuel and other necessities. But you would never know it if you just stay in the park, it just feels very .....detached from the city.

A thumb and three paws up for this park!

    Canoe Outpost Little Manatee River

Decent spot. If you want privacy and primitive, it’s not the spot

So I grew up camping a lot and like to be more primitive/ private. The campsites are close together, with little privacy. It’s also located right off the highway, so you get all the noise. All day and all night.

Now, for canoe and kayak trips, I guess it’s a good spot. There’s a lot of folk that come just for that. The staff is very friendly. They drive around maybe once a couple of hours. They are pet friendly. A long as your pup isn’t running around the whole property. I’m pretty sure every site has water and electricity.

    Thousand Trails Peace River

    Love this Thousand Trails campground

Even though its a bit close to the highway, the park is well laid out and full level hookup sites. There is pleanty to do and see. From a stroll alone the Peace river to swimming or hot tubbing. There is an area towards the rear of the campground that host electric and water hookup with a dump station within 50 yards of the area, reason for this area not to have sewer is its prone to flooding during the rainy season. But if its in the winter, its level and far more quiet then the upper areas. All in all, a nice campground!

Guide to Laurel

RV camping near Laurel, Florida offers access to the Myakka River and coastal beaches within 10 miles of most campsites. The subtropical climate maintains warm temperatures year-round with summer highs averaging 90°F and frequent afternoon thunderstorms from June through September. Cell service remains strong at most locations, though internet quality varies between resorts.

What to do

Kayaking on Myakka River: At Linger Lodge RV Park, campers can rent kayaks to explore the Braden River. "We rented some kayaks and explored the Braden River, I can highly recommend it. And the kids loved fishing," reports Rebecca H.

Beach exploration: The area's proximity to Gulf beaches provides easy day trips from most campgrounds. A camper at Encore Royal Coachman notes, "You're less than a mile and half from beaches, legacy bike trail and Main Street Venice, Fl. Venice is a favorite small florida city, famous for its beaches full of fossilized sharks teeth."

Resort activities: Many RV parks offer extensive on-site recreation. At Sun N Fun RV Resort, campers enjoy "21 Pickleball courts" and a "slide (limited hours…ask ahead), and the warm pool was refreshing," according to recent visitors.

What campers like

Waterfront sites: Some campgrounds offer sites near water features. At Encore Ramblers Rest, visitors appreciate sites backing to the river: "We stayed here in our 40' class A for about 2 months in August & September 2019 and really enjoyed the campground which is nestled amongst tall pine trees. The pool area is well kept and heated."

Recreation facilities: Campers consistently highlight pool areas and recreation options. At Horseshoe Cove RV Resort, a visitor noted "beautiful gym, pool, hot tub, and private island on backside to fish and other games like horseshoes."

What you should know

Peak season congestion: Winter months bring significant crowds to Florida RV parks. At Encore Harbor Lakes, one camper noted the park was "mixed in with full timers and mobile homes. The RVs were shoved in between these homes and permanent spots."

Navigation challenges: Many parks have narrow roads making maneuvering difficult. A visitor to Horseshoe Cove advised, "Roads are narrow with lots of turns. If you have a big rig with a toad I suggest dropping the toad by the office to park rig and have your partner drive to site with you."

Site conditions: Some parks have uneven or poorly maintained sites. At Encore Terra Ceia, a visitor rated it "Mediocre for the weeken visitor" noting "No fire pit, no hiking, no lake, no beach."

Tips for camping with families

Pool amenities: Facilities with kid-friendly features are scattered throughout the area. One camper at Royal Coachman mentioned, "This was a fun campground with lots of activities included with your rental. They have a huge pool, pickle ball, tennis, mini golf, basketball, and kayaks."
