Best Cabin Camping near Kenansville, FL

Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo offers cabin accommodations 40 miles west of Kenansville with full electrical hookups, heating, air conditioning, and furnished interiors. Cabin sites include picnic tables and fire rings, with most offering sewer and water connections. Cabins at Camp Mack in Lake Wales provide riverside locations with standard amenities. "We actually got a spot at RRRVR which is on the backside by the smoke house restaurant. It was lot 196 and it was FANTASTIC! River ranch has so much to do," noted one visitor about the River Ranch area. Kilpatrick Hammock Campground in Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park provides more rustic cabin options in a certified dark sky location.

Options range from tiny log cabins to spacious family-sized layouts at several locations within 50 miles of Kenansville. Most cabin sites require advance booking, particularly during winter months when seasonal visitors are most common. Pet policies vary by location, with Westgate River Ranch Resort, Sebastian Inlet State Park Campground, and Jetty Park all permitting pets in designated cabin areas. According to one visitor, "All the sites are beautiful! Lots of entertainment for all ages." Cabin rentals typically include basic furnishings but may lack full kitchens or private bathrooms depending on the facility.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities vary widely, with some cabins offering only basic refrigerators and microwaves while others provide full cooking amenities. Resort at Canopy Oaks and Westgate River Ranch both maintain on-site markets for basic provisions, though selection is limited. Guests staying at more remote locations like Kissimmee Prairie Preserve should arrive fully stocked as one reviewer noted, "Be sure to fuel up and have plenty of groceries. Quiet and remote." Visitors planning extended stays should consider bringing supplemental cooking equipment and food storage containers as cabinet space is typically minimal in most furnished cabins.

    Orlando/Kissimmee KOA

    Fabricated Camping @ Kissimmee KOA

Why contemplate leaving the creature comforts of home when you can just haul everything that you love most to a place that provides all of the concrete paved, easy-to-access amenities that you likely have at home in the first place? If you find yourself in this dilemma, no worries, Orlando/ Kissimmee KOA has all of your manufactured outdoor camping needs covered … and what’s perhaps most interesting is that you won’t even have to drive out of the concrete jungle to encounter this experience, in fact, it’s right off a major 4-lane highway (HWY 192).

So, if you are dreaming of escaping your domesticated life for the thrills of an outdoor camping adventure that will have you appreciating the best of what nature has to offer, then just be forewarned, this is not that place. But if you are simply looking for a change of scenery and want to be near all of the action and attractions here in Central Florida’s ‘Magic City’ and want a different experience than paying overpriced rates at Tiki-hut themed entertainment hotels and relish the idea of dusting off your RV or unpacking your tent in a pseudo nature environment complete with all the astro turf your dog can poop on within a confined, fenced-in setting, then this KOA (and let’s be frank, ANY KOA) has you covered.

As far as amenities go, it’s a KOA, so there’s going to be more amenities here than you can shake a stick at. These include: heated in-ground medium-sized pool complete with tiled patio, lounge chaise chairs, tables with umbrellas and regular chairs, water-rinsing station, as well as a jacuzzi / spa, propane refilling station, bike rentals, 134’ max length slots, WiFi, pavilion, Kamp K9, firewood for sale, 24 hour laundr-O-mat, picnic tables, community fire pits, on-site market, recreation office, life-size Jenga, designated trash areas, fitness center, playground, dog wash, public bus service, basketball court, EV chargers, jump pad, taxi service back-in and pull-through perfectly paved, level concrete RV sites with full hook-ups (30 / 50 amp electric, water and sewage). There’s even RV sites that are dubbed ‘Deluxe,’ which are larger and come with a paved connected patio.

No RV? And REALLY don’t want to have an experience that is different than living at home? Even here at this KOA, that’s not a problem, where the proprietors will easily rent you a deluxe cabin, if there is one available. These 1BR or 2BR A/C cooled Deluxe Cabins sleep 4, 6 or 8 people and come with bunk bed set, futon / sofa sleeper and a queen-sized bed along with a private bath and shower, TV with cable offering over 20 channels, some with EV chargers, patio w/ charcoal or gas BBQ grill and fire pit, front porch with patio furniture and chairs, refrigerator, fresh linens, paw pen for the pups and a partial or full kitchen. They even have rustic cabins that are cheaper and don’t come with all the thrills for those that want some degree of ‘roughing’ it, so this means no kitchen and no bathroom or showers, although there is full bed, bunk bed, TV, mini-refrigerator, A/C patio furniture, brick fire pit with cooking grate.

Insider’s tips? Here’s a few: (1) To continue with the simple, easy-to-access, manufactured experience theme here, for those that grow tired of trying to conjure up that next meal for the kiddos, who are grumbling about making every meal, head on over to any one of these nearby drive-thru windows or curb-side meal offerings: McDonald’s, Panda Express, Applebee’s, Steak ‘n Shake and Wendy’s; (2) If you want to heighten that suburban culinary experience you all have been craving though, I really do rate the silverware-free dining experience that is Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, which is literally just down the road and is actually a lot of fun for the kiddos and adults alike; (3) Should you find yourself in need of anything that you either forgot or may have run out of, then fear not, there’s a Sam’s Club that is in walking distance from this KOA and further south that definitely requires a drive, there’s a Walmart Supercenter; (4) I’ve noticed that this place has SIGNIFICANT discounts if you simply plan in advance – so for example, during the months of March OR April (it’s January now), they’re offering a whopping 25% discount; and (5) If you are looking for a slice of nature’s paradise, then I highly recommend driving a bit north to Wekiwa Springs, where you’ll be able to enjoy one of the most amazing springs in all of Florida where the water is 72 degrees year round.

    Happy Camping!

    Sun Outdoors Orlando ChampionsGate

Desolate RV Camping Outpost near Magic Kingdom

OK, let’s just cut to the chase here. You are likely considering Sun Outdoors Orlando Champions Gate due to its proximity to the ‘Most Magical Place on Earth’ or one of the other themed amusement parks here in the Orlando area. And maybe you’ve got an RV and shrugged your shoulders and said ‘why not?’ And to this I say, if proximity and accessibility are key criteria for you on this particular trip and locking down a spot to park your RV for a few days while you (and likely the kids) are wanting to enjoy all of the entertainment and endless lines of all-you-can-eat buffets, then Sun Outdoors will certainly be a very good option for you.

What I like most about Sun Outdoors Orlando is that this spot is recently completely refurbished, so everywhere you go, while the place itself looks like it has recently been cleared of all vegetation (definitely a negative in my mind - as it looks as though every single piece of nature, be it grass, bushes or trees, has been surgically removed leaving a very barren, sterile environ), all of the buildings, sites and amenities look fairly brand spanking new, especially the club house and adjoining in-ground heated pool, which is definitely the best aspect of this particular paved campground. Here they have plenty of level, asphalt-paved or grassy RV pads, spots for tent camping as well as even cottages and cabins that they’ll rent to you in case you’ve not come prepared with any overnight preparations of your own.

Amenities: large heated in-ground swimming pool with patio and deck chairs, umbrellas and chaise loungers, pristine bathroom & showers, shuffleboard court, game room, horseshoe pit, WiFi, pet-friendly, coin-operated laundr-O-mat, dog park, bingo hall, basketball, volleyball, stand-up BBQ grills, religious services, Adirondack chair encircled fire pits, cornhole as well as back-in and pull-through RV slots with concrete patios, picnic table and all the traditional hook-ups (20 / 30 / 50 amp electric, water and sewage).

Insider’s tips: (1) When we visited, there was a solid amount of road construction going on right in front of Sun Outdoors Orlando, so unless that has changed (call ahead if this is of concern), then I would highly suggest booking a spot furthest away the front of the campground, which sits right in front of the roadway where the work is being done; (2) If you grow weary of opening up your on-board fridge or half-empty roto-molded Cordova cooler and want to check out a nearby restaurant, I recommend nearby Miller’s Ale House, Marco’s Pizza, Mondo di Gelato or Reunion Gyro; (3) While this campground will tell you on-line and on-site that you can tent camp here, even if you could, I don’t know that you would want to, unless your idea of a good tent camping experience is being sandwiched between 2 oversized RV’s and pitching your tent on asphalt; (4) Some of these sites for large RV’s and even 5th wheels appear to be a bit too small (several were either parked beyond the asphalt limits on the grass, or the width was too large and overhung the concrete pad itself, creating unstable situation for some RV’s) ;(5) If you actually care to grab a slice of nature while you are here at Sun Outdoors Orlando, then go for a day trip to Lake Tohopekaliga, which has some pretty amazing bass fishing as well as a few choice places to drop your boat into, like Twin Oaks or Cherokee Point Conservation Areas (and if you don’t have your own kayak, canoe or boat, contact Wild Willys Airboat Tours and they’ll show you around); and (6) There’s a Publix, CVS and Aldi so close to this campground that you can walk there, in case you run out of anything.

    Happy Camping!

Kilpatrick Hammock Campground — Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park

    Awesome stargazing and wildlife

If you love camping, wildlife, and stargazing but still want the convenience of amenities (i.e electricity, running water, bathroom, shower) then this is the place for you.

Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park is part of IDA International Dark-Sky Places. The park has little light pollution and also a stargazing pad where you can also camp on.

The campgrounds aren't large but the campsites are good for tents and RVs. The one site we stayed at had water and electric hook-ups and a firepit. We were close to very clean restroom area that also had showers, washer and dryer. They do have primitive campsites for the more rustic individuals. The campgrounds are about 45 minutes from town, but the ranger station sells ice for $2.50 and firewood purchase is by honor system. We also saw other campers with their dogs so pet-friendly as well.

Lots of hiking trails and so much wildlife. We saw deer grazing near our campsite!

Make sure to bring lots of mosquito repellent, especially in the summer months. Otherwise you'll get bit...a lot! But it is Florida after all.

    Orlando/Kissimmee KOA

Only place to stay outside of Disney

This was the perfect location for our touristy vacation! The Orlando Kissimmee KOA Holiday is great park to visit when staying in the Orlando area. Most shopping and restaurants are within a 5-10 minute drive. And all the tourist attractions are within 30 minutes:

    • Walt Disney World 15 minutes
    • Universal Studios 23 minutes
    • SeaWorld 17 minutes
    • Gatorland  minutes
    • Midevil Times  minutes

We made our reservations on the app, you could also choose to book online at Koa.com or over the phone. It’s an easy process and you’ll have multiple site options to choose from. Sign up for the Value Kard rewards program if you think you’ll stay more than 3 nights a year, it’ll pay for itself. KOA will not assign a specific site until you arrive to checkin, however they will accept requests if you have an area in mind or friends you want to be close to.

This park has 3 types of Motorhome/Camper sites; back-in, pull-through and deluxe patios. They are all full hook-ups(50Amp, water, sewer and cable). They also have deluxe cabins and tent sites available. We were extremely impressed of the amenities the tent sites had. Large tables, chairs around the fire pit and covered kitchen area with sinks and electrical outlets. These are located next to the shower and bath rooms, this makes it very convenient for those quick trips in the middle of the night. They’re also diagonal to the heated pool, sauna, workout room, bike rental area and laundry area.

On the other side of the park is a great playground and jump pad. They even have a fenced in dog run and dog wash area. This is a beautiful KOA location and well maintained. We like that the campground is just lit enough at night to walk the dogs after sunset. The lamps look like little Mickey Mouse heads! The staff is friendly and helpful. The camp store is well stocked and kept clean. There is minimal noise from the major road nearby.

If you can’t stay at Fort Wilderness on Disney property this is the next best location!!!

    Fort Pierce-Port St. Lucie KOA

    Close to town and well-kept

General: Small family-run KOA campground (33 sites) located 1.5 miles north of Fort Pierce on Highway One. All sites are FHU with a combination of regular, premium, and extra-large sites. There is also a tent site area.

Site Quality: All sites are level and gravel with a fire pit and a brick patio area with a picnic table. Typical RV park layout with minimal to no privacy separating sites.

Bathhouse: Two unisex all-in-ones that were clean and air-conditioned. The shower had immediate hot water and good water pressure.

Activities/Amenities: There is a small playground and pet area plus a clean spacious laundry area. It is close to town. There is a manatee center and Navy Seal Museum (but we didn’t explore either one) close by in addition to shops and restaurants in Fort Pierce. I was able to enjoy a 3-mile run to town and back on sidewalks.

This campground was more expensive than we usually like to spend but it was a convenient location for us to have dinner with a family friend. We arrived after the office was closed so did not have any interaction with staff but our check-in paperwork was readily available. We appreciate that we were tucked in at the rear of the property which lessened the road noise (and we didn’t have neighbors on either side of us). I would rate this three stars for our purposes but as it was well-kept and for others may suit their needs, it merits four stars in general.

Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo

    Isolated but fun

Tons to do on property including little stores, bbq restaurant, pizza, ice cream etc. Horseback riding, petting zoo, rock climbing. BUT, my only complaint is the noise level of the area. Lots of boat noise, gas golf carts (big property) & it just happened that my neighbors loved their gas blowers & pressure washing lol. Lots of great sites to choose from. Nice staff. Pet friendly.

Kilpatrick Hammock Campground — Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park

    Simple and well maintained

Our visit was relaxing and enjoyable. We visited in July and the shade from all the trees around our site helped keep the heat tolerable. The camp site’s aren’t dispersed and a little close together but we didn’t have any immediate neighbors around us so it was perfect. We stayed on site 008 and it was spacious enough for our large cabin tent, picnic table, additional table, dog pool, chairs, etc. Our site is conveniently close to the bathrooms. I liked that there is only one main dumpster and it’s kept a distance from the camp sites. I think this helped keep any raccoons that may have been around away from the campers. AMAZING star gazing location.

    Mill Creek RV Resort

Little RV Nature Respite Surrounded by Concrete Jungle

I have to admit, when I first discovered Mill Creek RV Resort on our smartphone’s GPS, I had nothing but low expectations and when navigating to get to this seemingly RV road stand, all of the traffic and commercial real estate surrounding this place was just begging me to turn around and hightail it out of here. That was, until we decided to check out this RV parking spot. And we were somewhat pleasantly surprised by what we found. While easily not a destination, if your aim is to simply find comfortable, affordable and safe accommodations to roll up your mobile living room for the night, then (especially for the price), you won’t be disappointed.

To begin with, the community and neighbors you will meet are incredibly welcoming and the owners / management couldn’t be more hospitable. This place on the one hand has a small neighborhood feel (because it is partly carved out of a residential area) and on the other, feels like a semi-decent nature preserve where RV’s aren’t jam packed next to one another. Sure, it’s tight in a few places, but all-in-all, one feels safe and secure here and offered a number of pretty great and new amenities. And if you don’t have an RV, no worries, the good folks at Mill Creek RV Resort will rent you one of their newly built park models.

Mill Creek RV Resort offers a number of amenities, including: complete RV hook-ups (20 / 30 / 50 electric amp, water and sewage lines) with pull-through and back-in flat concrete slab sites, picnic tables, heated in-ground pool complete with lounge chairs and umbrellas, recreation hall with ping pong tables, coin-operated laundry facilities, very clean restroom and shower facilities, kid’s playground w/ slide, doggie park (one for small and another for large), mail center, cable TV access, free WiFi access (near the office only though) as well as indoor and outdoor games (e.g. horse shoes, shuffle board, corn hole), propane refill station, LP gas, cable TV access and even sheds for extra storage.

Insider’s tips? Here’s a handful: (1) This location puts you within short driving distance to Walt Disney World, Universal, Seaworld and a bunch of other family-friendly entertainment options; (2) When you get tired of paying for overpriced amusement park food or can’t muster enough strength to plan your next meal from the confines of what might be available in your RV fridge, then venture out to one of these nearby eateries: Coqui Snacks, Sol de Borinquen Bakery Restaurant & Deli or Dolce Bakery and Café; and (3) If you brought a kayak or canoe, I highly recommend launching in nearby Kissimmee Lakefront Park, where if you go to the far eastern side, you can cast a line and catch some pretty good fish.

    Happy Camping!

Guide to Kenansville

Cabin camping near Kenansville, Florida provides options in a region known for its inland waterways and prairie landscapes. Located in central Florida at an elevation of about 65 feet, this area experiences a subtropical climate with summer temperatures often exceeding 90°F. Mosquitoes are prevalent during warmer months, particularly near water features like Kissimmee Prairie and the Kissimmee River.

What to do

Dark sky viewing at night: Kilpatrick Hammock Campground at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park offers certified dark sky viewing areas. "Astronomers love this park. In fact, they have a designated campground just for them. Be sure to ONLY use flashlights with red lense so that you do not disrupt the star gazers," advises one visitor.

Fishing opportunities: The cabin areas at Camp Mack, A Guy Harvey Lodge, Marina & RV Resort provide access to fishing opportunities. "They have air boat tours, guided fishing trips (bass). They have a Marina a camp store, food and beer garden with music playing," notes one reviewer who stayed at the resort.

Wildlife observation: The prairie landscape supports diverse wildlife viewing. "Our 6 teenagers were so excited to stand face-to-face, only a few feet from gentle deer, bunnies, and turkeys. We even saw some lazy baby alligators sunning on the Military Trail," explains a camper about Kissimmee Prairie Preserve.

Weekend rodeos: For families wanting entertainment beyond nature activities, weekend events provide additional options. "We really enjoyed the rodeo," mentioned a visitor to Westgate River Ranch, which hosts regular Saturday night events.

What campers like

Clean, spacious bathroom facilities: Cabin campers appreciate well-maintained facilities at Resort at Canopy Oaks. "Bathhouse was extremely clean and showers are really spacious and private," notes one visitor. The newer resort facilities tend to offer more modern amenities than older establishments.

Water features and pools: Access to swimming areas ranks high for summer visitors. "The pool was refreshing! We had an excellent time celebrating two retirements and two birthdays! The tiki bar and fire pit are amazing," shares a Resort at Canopy Oaks camper.

Social atmosphere: Many cabin areas foster community interaction. "The full time residents are very friendly as are the staff. The pool is clean and they have all types of camping available," comments a visitor to Vero Beach Kamp, which offers cabin options among its accommodations.

Proximity to attractions: Cabin sites within reasonable driving distance to tourist destinations appeal to many. "Most shopping and restaurants are within a 5-10 minute drive. And all the tourist attractions are within 30 minutes," reports a camper about Orlando/Kissimmee KOA's location.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Summer heat significantly impacts comfort levels. "Since it's a new resort and the trees are new there is absolutely no shade! It can get extremely hot that you will definitely need to take advantage of the pool," warns a visitor about Resort at Canopy Oaks, which was developed more recently than other options.

Distance from amenities: Remote cabin sites require preparation. "Be aware that this campground is very far from the closest stores. You can buy firewood from the camp office but it is definitely worth the drive," advises a camper about Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park.

Bug situation: Insects present challenges throughout the region. "Bugs, especially the 'no see ums' were pretty bad - so bring bug spray," notes a visitor to Sebastian Inlet State Park Campground. This is especially true for cabins near water features.

Booking windows: Advance planning is essential for peak periods. "This was our very first camping trip with our new camper. Absolutely beautiful state park with so much to do and see!!! From bird watching to swimming, to paddle boarding, to kayaking, to biking, the possibilities are endless," shares a Sebastian Inlet visitor who reserved well ahead.

Tips for camping with families

Recreational activities for children: Organized activities keep younger visitors engaged. "Lots of things for kids to do! Also has a rodeo every Saturday night! The only down fall is the prices are a little expensive, other than that lots of fun," explains a camper about Westgate River Ranch Resort.

Safety considerations: Campgrounds with security features provide peace of mind. "We felt safe staying here because there was always someone from staff walking around cleaning or checking on things," reports a visitor to Orlando/Kissimmee KOA.

Transportation within larger properties: Mobility options help at expansive resorts. "Bring your bikes as everything is a bit of a walk from the campground," suggests a Westgate River Ranch visitor. Several cabin areas sprawl across large properties where walking distances can be considerable.

Child-specific amenities: Facilities designed for younger visitors enhance family stays. "Playground for kids, A fun camp ground," notes a Camp Mack visitor, highlighting features beyond standard cabin accommodations.

Tips from RVers

Site specifications: Understanding pad surfaces affects setup. "Sites are very spacious! The trees were planted in December 2020, so there's not much shade at this point," explains a Resort at Canopy Oaks visitor, indicating the newer nature of some facilities.

Utility connections: Hookup availability varies significantly between properties. "Most pads are brick pavers with full hook ups," reports a Camp Mack visitor, noting the convenience of comprehensive connections at cabin sites.

Proximity to other campers: Site spacing impacts privacy levels. "The sites 100-144 aren't as shady. The red knot circle is the most shady," advises a visitor to Jetty Park Campground about selecting optimal locations within the property.

Accessibility considerations: Road conditions affect arrival experiences. "The dirt road on the way to the campground was very smooth," mentions a Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park visitor, providing practical information for those traveling to more remote cabin sites.
