Davenport, Florida is surrounded by diverse camping opportunities, with accommodations ranging from full-service RV resorts to cabin rentals. The area features several established campgrounds including Orlando Southwest KOA Holiday and Sun Outdoors Orlando ChampionsGate, both offering amenities for RVs and tent campers. Camping is available year-round in the Davenport area, with most campgrounds providing water and electric hookups, and many offering full sewer connections for RVs. The climate remains warm throughout most of the year, though summer brings high humidity and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Winter months (November through March) offer milder temperatures and less precipitation, making this the peak season when advance reservations become essential. Pool and clubhouse is clean and nice. Shop is well stocked."

It's clean, quiet and a pleasant stay." Some campgrounds have undergone renovations to improve facilities, with several featuring heated pools, dog parks, and communal gathering spaces. While natural features are limited compared to state park camping elsewhere in Florida, these mixed-use campgrounds provide convenient bases for exploring central Florida attractions.

    Responsible Adults Be Warned

I'd like to give you the positives. Crisp, clean, manicured, food and bar pretty good, well-appointed amenities. We had a pretty good week, having found a quiet pool area. Saw a bald eagle and a swallow-tail kite. I’d like to tell you about that, but that’s not the review.

Here’s the review: if you book here, you will be checking into a bizarre combination of tropical paradise, tailgate party, spring break, and a middle school playground. On St. Patrick's Day, we had been doing some sightseeing. We came back to our site, and the folks who had arrived behind us fired up their music. I don't have a problem with music or other noise prior to"quiet time," so long as it's not over the top. This was way over the top. Kim was on the phone with the nursing home about her 91-year old mother and she couldn't hear the other end of the call.

We called Security and asked for help, they came around and talked to the offenders. Whereupon the offenders started yelling around"who complained about our music?" And, they sent their preteen daughters on their bicycles going around and asking"did you complain?” Let's just say it was downhill from there. They jacked the volume even more, and started taunting us. Kim lost her temper and started yelling at them to quiet down. They responded by threatening her. She told me to call security, but since they hadn’t helped, and the on-duty rent-a-cop had no interest in helping, I called 911(which the campground rules said to do in an emergency). Apparently, that was a mistake. The rent-a-cop was pissed off that we called 911 when he was supposed to already be on top of it(which he wasn't). So there was a conclave of police cars, and the night manager, and the three large guys from the offending site, etc.

Bottom line: management demanded that WE leave, in half an hour, or be arrested. It’s 10:30 pm, and I told the rent-a-cop that I was in no shape to drive. “Figure it out,” he said, and walked away. So two 70-year olds had 30 minutes to get everything packed up and drive to some alternative place.

While we were striking the site, the kids at the offending site were chanting"we won, we won." And they started playing"Hit the Road You Jack" quite loud. And the adults were yelling"we're Republicans. We can do whatever we want." They noted our Maine license plates and told us to"go back to Canada where you belong."

We ended up in a wicked expensive hotel in the next town over, paying spring break prices($340 a night!!). And we lost the cost of two nights at the campground.

So if you’re a party animal, this may be your kind of place. Just don’t complain about anything, or you will be asked to leave.

It’s interesting to note which rules are enforced and which aren’t. For instance, there’s a poolside bar, and lots of signs between the bar and the pool saying“no food or drink beyond this point.” Not only was there lots of food and drink around the pool, there were wait staff taking orders and delivering it.

In retrospect, the fact that they have a rent-a-cop cruising the premises every night should have been a red flag. I’ve never seen that before, but apparently they expect rowdiness. They just don’t want to deal with the negative repercussions.

Our campsite is nice. It's quiet here during the week. The bathrooms need cleaning. They are kept neat just not cleaned.

    Thousand Trails Peace River

    New management, new campground

There appears to be new management in the campground. Procedures are completely different and much better than previous visits. It is cleaner and more organized. It is now possible to get a reservation for the full hookup section. The river and woods trails are in great shape. Hopefully they will get the mini golf course turf replaced, it is currently painted concrete and not much fun to play on.

    Lithia Springs

    Highly recommend

Welcoming staff upon arrival. Park is very clean and well taken care of. Met some great neighbors and enjoyed the quietness. The park is constantly monitored by staff giving you a sense of comfort. Beautiful spring to enjoy a warm day as the water temp is a consistent 72°. Canoe and Kyak launch is easily accessible to enjoy the calm waters of the Alafia River. Restrooms and showers were clean and plentiful around the grounds. We will definitely be back.

    Thousand Trails Peace River

    Love the Peace River

I think the best thing is the size of this place, there usually is always a spot to get in on. There is a nice Little River running through the very edge of the park, but it's difficult to get a spot there. Also, the laundry facility is top notch and the pool is very pleasant, they also have racquetball and some nice short trails to walk on.

Guide to Davenport

Davenport camping offers diverse options within Florida's subtropical climate zone where summer temperatures typically reach 90°F with high humidity. Located in central Florida at approximately 120 feet above sea level, the area's campgrounds feature sandy soil and flat terrain making most sites level without much effort. Many campsites are situated close to lakes or man-made water features that attract local wildlife.

What to do

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Lake Louisa State Park Campground offers encounters with native Florida species in their natural habitat. "We were able to spot a bobcat in pursuit of dinner, which was a delight to see firsthand," notes one camper. Another visitor mentions, "Wild turkeys visited us daily to hang out by a fallen tree near our site. Deer passed by every evening."

Water recreation access: At Camp Margaritaville RV Resort and Cabana Cabins Auburndale, visitors enjoy multiple water features. "They've got a great splash pad and playground for the kids, a water slide, and two larger pools for kids and adults," explains a reviewer. The resort also sits near a lake with additional activities: "There's a eagle preserve by the lake and the Auburndale bike trail (29 miles!) just outside of the entrance."

Theme park proximity: For those visiting Orlando attractions, Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground offers transportation options. "There is bus service throughout the campground with bus and boat service to the Parks," mentions a camper. Another visitor adds, "We took the bus to the marina area for dinner at the buffet, to watch the fireworks/light show, and to see Cinderella's horses and carriage."

What campers like

Spacious sites with privacy: Many campgrounds in Davenport FL feature well-designed layouts. At Lake Louisa State Park Campground, "Campsites are far enough apart for privacy with lots of shades trees. Each site has a firepit." Another visitor notes, "All of the sites seemed level, most are quite private with a fair amount of trees/foliage in between sites, have a sizable picnic table and nice fire ring with grate."

Clean facilities: Davenport area campgrounds maintain high standards for bathhouses and amenities. One camper at Orlando/Kissimmee KOA shares, "We had to use the shower at the facility and it was good. We used the family shower and it was clean and a perfect place to rest for the night!" A long-term visitor notes, "The welcoming atmosphere and supreme customer service place this campground above and beyond!"

Accessibility to necessities: Campers appreciate proximity to supplies. A visitor at Sun Outdoors Orlando ChampionsGate mentions it's "a walkable distance from grocery stores" and another notes it has "Very clean bathrooms with showers (soaps provided) and a laundry room."

What you should know

Variable site quality: Reviews indicate significant differences between campsites at the same property. At Encore Sherwood Forest, "The entrance was clean but not in the park." Another camper notes, "The best sites, in general, are all of the ones that are completely on the perimeter."

Weather considerations: Florida's climate affects camping conditions year-round. At Lake Kissimmee State Park Campground, a camper points out, "Most of the trails are still flooded. Our rainy season just ended and we've had a lot of rain towards the end of it."

Reservation requirements: Popular campgrounds fill quickly, especially during peak seasons. "Quiet hours are 10pm to 8am," notes one camper at Camp Margaritaville. Another camper at Disney's Fort Wilderness advises, "Rent a golf cart if you don't have one. Transportation was OK and the Tavern was very nice."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Camp Margaritaville offers numerous options for children. "The kids played for four hours straight and went back for more after dinner!" shares a parent. Another mentions, "Easter there had a TON of activities for everyone."

Pool considerations: When evaluating campgrounds, check pool facilities. "Very crowded," notes one Camp Margaritaville visitor about the pool area during busy times. At Disney's Fort Wilderness, "The pool is a nice size pool with a small water slide. There is a splash area in the back for small kids."

Entertainment options: Look for campgrounds with scheduled activities. At Encore Tropical Palms, "Kids love the ability to ride their Bikes around the campground and love the pool. Plenty of deer to watch throughout the day." The resort also hosts "planned activities like Holiday parties, block parties, etc."

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategies: Choose campsites based on your specific needs. At Thousand Trails Orlando, "A-Lots of pull throughs, B-Giant Field where the kids play, D-Jungle, Secluded, Private, also with snakes but a lot more shade, E/F/G-Normal RV Park in the grass, some shade in some parts."

Utility connections: Be prepared for variable hookup arrangements. At Orlando Southwest KOA Holiday, "Water pressure is good. Cable is good except for very poor signal quality for the local stations." Another RVer notes, "Many spots did not have sewer, but they had free pump outs every Wednesday and a dump station."

Maneuverability concerns: Consider access challenges when selecting a site. At Disney's Fort Wilderness, "There is not a lot of room in the loops to pull your rv into the spot. There is plenty of room between your rv and your neighbor next to you but not a lot of room across from your spot."
