Best RV Parks & Resorts near Crawford, CO

Several RV parks dot the landscape near Crawford, Colorado. Black Canyon RV Park & Campground in Cimarron offers electric hookups, water hookups, and sewer connections, with easy access for large rigs. Riverbend RV Park & Cabins in Montrose features full hookups including 30/50-amp service, open from April 15 to October 15. "Tight spot and dusty but staff nice. Was relatively quiet, but seemed 5 ft from next rv," notes one camper about Cedar Creek RV Park, which provides full hookup sites with 50-amp service for larger motorhomes. Mountain Time RV Park & Cabins (formerly Tall Texan) operates seasonally from May through October with 103 sites accommodating RVs with electric, water, and sewer connections.

Most RV parks in the region require advance reservations during summer and fall months when visitation peaks. Sites near the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park may have limited cell service, particularly at higher elevations where South Rim Campground sits at 8,200 feet. A camper noted, "Great place to camp, they only have electric for RV, no water or sewer hook ups due to altitude of 8200ft. Limited on RV sites need to call ahead." Dump stations are available at select locations including Riverbend RV Park and Cedar Creek RV Park. Many parks accommodate pets with designated walking areas, though specific restrictions may apply. During winter months, RV camping options become significantly limited as several facilities close seasonally due to mountain weather conditions.

Island Acres Section Camping — James M. Robb Colorado River State Park

    Spacious State Park

Overnight stay. Nice park park like setting with all the necessary amenities. Very flat concrete site with picnic table and canopy, fire ring, and gravel sitting area. 30 amp electric and water worked great. Excellent Verizon service as well. Nice view of distant mountains. We did occasionally hear a train in the distance, but it did not affect our sleep. Would stay again.

South Rim Campground — Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

    Winter camping!

We stayed in the winter off season in Loop A, since it’s the only loop open. They plow Loop A and all pull through sites. There was no fee for the campsite, just the park entrance fee. There’s no power in this loop and there’s no water since it’s shut off in the winter. There are pit toilets which are pretty clean for pit toilets. There were a few campers but they were spread so far apart since everyone needed pull through sites cause it snowed a lot recently. Some places the snow is up to your thighs and some places it’s up to your waist.

Even without amenities, we were happy a campground was open in the Colorado winter.

[Internet. Verizon via iPhone has no signal. However, with our booster Nighthawk MR-1100 - 25 mbps down and 1 mbps up with 200 ping.]

    Kebler Corner

    Would happily visit again!

We stayed in a camper van over a busy holiday and loved it! We were hoping for a peaceful getaway for us and our dog and found it at Kebler. Yes, some of the spaces are close together but everyone there made it work well. The angled spots and strategic landscaping help too. Plenty of grassy common areas to stretch your legs and your pup’s (on leash), so much so we didn’t feel like we missed out on anything by not being parked with the big coaches along the river. Even better since the large river spots had little/no natural shade (most seemed to have their own awnings that our van didn’t so no worries there I think for them). The tent spots were in a different area on the other side of the property a little away from the busier parts. They also had less shade but had level pads and but seemed closer to the bridge (and hiking). The community vibe was respectful and friendly and it was lovely to stroll about and enjoy it all. Families were out and about, playing with their children and trying different things to do. There was a little playground and some activities in a covered space like velcro axe throwing and corn hole. There were soccer goals set up at one of the grassy areas too. There was also a frisbee golf course, hammocks and picnic tables scattered around the property. A sign by the bathrooms invited camp guests to go gentle group hike if you meet at the bridge at the posted time in the morning. The general store was open during the day and had more than I expected (came for stickers and snacks, left with a game of Bananagrams and more). There wasn’t cell service but wifi worked well for what we needed. The bathrooms were clean and the water was warm. On a busy weekend you might need to use the portable toilets near the tent sites if the regular ones are occupied at a busy time. In the future, splitting the shower and toilet facilities might help with that long term, but I am not sure how hard (and expensive) that is to do in places that are tucked away into the mountains like this. We did use the coin laundry and that worked well. At the time of our visit it was $2 for the washer and $3.50 for the dryer. There was a variety of cute cabins for rent with a good range in size and cost - and some have own their bathroom and even little patio spaces. The hosts and staff were friendly and helpful, even doing trash pickup in the morning if you left it out at a certain time by your site. Kebler is in a beautiful setting, has thoughtfully-designed spaces and is carefully maintained. We would definitely come back - hopefully in a camper van / travel trailer or even just to stay in one of the cabins.

    Ouray Riverside Resort

    Beautiful Ouray

Nestled in a valley with beautiful view next to Uncompahgre River with wonderful walking path. Gravel parking right off hwy 550. Laundry, showers, restaurant. Primitive cabins and fully equipped cabins. Very friendly staff. Pet friendly. Close to uptown shopping and eating & grocery store. Pull thru and back in sites. Overflow parking for extra vehicles for a charge. Down side-you have to trailer to trailheads for SXS riding. Most tail heads are small parking areas but the riding in the mountains is priceless. Been here twice, same site and would go again.

    Ouray KOA Holiday

    Quaint and quiet

Stayed at a small back-in site with 30 amp & electric in our camper van. The site had a fire ring, grill, and picnic table. Loved that they had a store, laundry room, and firewood for sale. The store closes at 5:00 & we arrived at 5:10 but the office lady still checked us in and made sure we had firewood. The campground is well-maintained and clean.

    One Mile

    Nice riverfront campground

Big Rig friendly. 30 amp service. Good cell service on Verizon. Some highway noise but the river just on the otherside makes it an enjoyable place to camp. Clean bathrooms.

Mountain Time RV Park & Cabins (Formerly Tall Texan)

Easily accessible RV park near Gunnison, CO

They have a great staff that is friendly and always accessible! We have a back-in site but they have pull throughs also. There is a playground for the kids, laundry, and bathrooms with showers. They allow fires and provide a “fire pit” that is constructed from an old washer tub with legs welded on. Just ask for one at the front desk. They also sell firewood for the fire. Oh, and they come by and pick up your trash at your site between 9-5 each day just leave your bag out by the road. There are full hookups at most of the sites. The area is in walking distance of the Gunnison River and there is a nice hiking trail on the south side of the river heading west. There is also a bike path that goes back into town and up the road toward Crested Butte. On the main road (intersection of CR11 and highway 135) there is a bus stop for a free bus trip into Gunnison. The men’s bathroom had a couple of issues, the overhead light didn’t work very well and one of the toilets was malfunctioning but they got those fixed pretty quickly. There is a nice combination of shade (from the trees) and sun at all the sites.

    Three Rivers Resort & Outfitting

Great location with easy access fishing

Great location with full hookups for RVs. The description mentions back-in sites only, and while our electric hookup was conveniently on the same side, we had to run our water and sewage lines underneath the RV since those hookups were on the opposite side—this seems to be the case for all sites. The campground is perfectly situated at the intersection of the Gunnison, Taylor, and East Rivers, making it ideal for fly fishing. They offer cabins, RV sites, and long-term housing options. There's a small store with basic items, beer, and merchandise, plus a fly shop in the same building. There's also a restaurant, though it was closed during our stay, and coin-operated laundry facilities. Overall, a great stay!

Guide to Crawford

Camping areas near Crawford, Colorado offer a range of accommodations within easy reach of natural attractions. The region sits at elevations between 7,000-8,200 feet, creating distinct seasonal camping conditions with limited options during winter months. Many campgrounds close between October and May due to mountain weather patterns, with summer high temperatures typically ranging from 75-85°F.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Blue Mesa Reservoir provides excellent fishing access for campers staying at nearby sites. "We had an awesome lot but they are all very nice! WiFi works great! Host was so nice! Very well cared for grounds and the view is astounding," notes a camper at Black Canyon RV Park & Campground.

River recreation: Several campgrounds offer direct river access for fishing and water activities. A visitor at Riverbend RV Park & Cabins shares, "Beautiful location next to the Fort Umcompahgre River with easy access to trails for biking. The sites and grounds are well maintained and large."

Mountain biking: Trail systems near campgrounds provide options for cyclists of all levels. "Plenty of activities in the clubhouse along with 2 pools. Nice cool nights and love the dark nights to star gaze," reports a camper at Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many RV parks in the area offer well-designed sites with room to set up. A visitor at Centennial RV Park shares, "Super clean Park, bathrooms, laundry. Well maintained. Very Spacious pull thru rv spaces. Long green dog walk area."

Natural shade: Some campgrounds feature mature tree cover, a rarity in this region. "This park is nestled in a beautiful section of forest with a pond on site. Great walking around the park for our pups, reliable hook ups, clean facilites, and very friendly staff," notes a camper at Mountain Time RV Park & Cabins.

Lake views: Campsites with water views remain popular choices. At Elk Creek Campground, a camper notes, "If you are tent camping I would try and get a site that is next to the reservoir. Makes for a great sunset view! Overall the campsite is well maintained."

What you should know

Seasonal operations: Most RV camping near Crawford closes during winter. At Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch, "Outdoor closes and activities die down after beginning of September."

Electric hookup limitations: Higher elevation campgrounds face utility restrictions. A camper at Four Seasons River Inn & RV Park reports, "We were up by the highway, so the traffic was loud and the neighbors were fairly close. Not too terrible, and nothing a fan couldn't drown out at night."

Internet connectivity: Cell service varies significantly between campgrounds. "There is no Cellular service at this Campground. They have Wi-Fi, but I cannot attest to its strength or reliability; I use Starlink," notes a camper at Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch.

Site conditions: Be prepared for variable terrain at some campgrounds. "Sites are larger than many campgrounds. Laundry, bathrooms, and showers are clean. The staff is very friendly. Most sites are shaded.... a real treat in this area," reports a visitor at Mountain Time RV Park & Cabins.

Tips for camping with families

Campground amenities: Look for parks with dedicated recreation facilities. "We had such a relaxing stay at Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch! One of the major highlights for us was the amazing pool setup—both indoor and outdoor pools were clean, well-maintained, and perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring," shares a camper.

Site selection strategies: Pick sites appropriate for your setup and needs. At Cedar Creek RV Park, "This RV park is close to a bowling alley and several restaurants. It's great for a quick stay. There does appear to be many long-term residents, but they are separate from the retro campers."

Weather preparedness: Mountain climate means rapid changes even in summer. "Elv is 7600 so does not get super hot," notes a camper at Elk Creek Campground, making it easier for families with heat sensitivity.

Tips from RVers

Park accessibility: Not all campgrounds can accommodate larger rigs. "Nice size sights. Gravel lots. Do hear a bit of traffic noise from highway when close to front gate. River sights look nicer. I would stay here again without hesitation," shares an RVer at Riverbend RV Park & Cabins.

Utility hookups: Full service sites with water, electric, and sewer are available at select locations. "Nice park. Wifi and T-Mobile service are good. Park is clean and front desk people are friendly and helpful. All spots are on gravel, but there is a large pet yard as well as a grassy area with a large play structure for the kids," notes a Cedar Creek RV Park camper.

Propane availability: On-site propane service is offered at some parks. "They sell propane here. Not a lot of entertainment at there campgrounds other than enjoying there outdoors. It's a private campground.... So pricey@ $90 per might," a Mountain Time RV Park visitor reports.
