Peltier Bridge Primitive Campground and Horse Camp Primitive Campground welcome pets throughout their shaded sites in Whiskeytown-Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area. Both campgrounds maintain spacious sites with ample room for pets to rest beside tents or RVs, featuring picnic tables, fire rings, and trash bins. Sites are generally spread far apart providing privacy for campers with dogs. Bear boxes are available at both locations, essential for proper food storage when camping with pets. The primitive campgrounds require leashed pets at all times, with owners responsible for waste cleanup. Brandy Creek RV Campground provides additional pet-friendly options with year-round availability. Sites at Peltier Bridge are positioned along a creek where pets can cool off during hot summer months when temperatures frequently reach 100-110°F.

Dogs enjoy access to numerous trails throughout the Whiskeytown area, though owners should be vigilant for poison oak along paths and near campsites. The nearby Sacramento River offers water access for pets needing to cool off during summer camping trips. Cline Gulch BLM dispersed camping provides free pet-friendly sites with fewer amenities but greater flexibility for dogs that need more space. Mountain Gate RV Park and Redding RV Park offer full-hookup options for RV campers with pets, including shower facilities and trash service. Both provide designated pet areas for exercise. Campground restrooms throughout the region are generally clean and well-maintained, though primitive sites typically offer only pit toilets. Sites 8 and 9 at Peltier Bridge are considered the most desirable for campers with pets due to their proximity to the creek and distance from the entrance road.

      LOGE Mt Shasta

      A very hip parking lot

Camping at The Loge Mt Shasta will have you humming the song“They paved paradise and put up a parking lot…” The Loge is cute and hip and there are fun fairy lights at night and wifi and a coffee shop with lattes right outside your tent in the morning. There is a community fire pit and a shared kitchen and grilling area. There is also a train going by right near you most of the night, gravel under your sleeping pad, and neighbors within inches of you who may use the easily accessible electricity and wifi to stream music. The tent area looks like a horse corral and has canvas over the top to keep you mostly try if it rains. Bathrooms are in the hotel building across the way. There are lots of beautiful natural places to camp near Shasta that are much cheaper and much much more scenic. I chose to stay here because I was working from the road and needed wifi. If I stayed here again I’d spring for a room- otherwise I think I’ll hit up nature camping next time.

      Green Acres RV Park

      Nice park bad neighborhoods

This was a very nice park. Had a clean dog park that we enjoyed. Everything in the park seem like it was well kept. All of the other campers we interacted with seem very nice and courteous to each other. However outside of the park is a shady neighborhood. We went to do laundry and saw what appeared to be people doing drugs outside a hotel near by, and there were numerous homeless people wandering around.

      Redding RV Park

      I'd stay here again

Full hookups in back in spot for $55. Mostly pull throughs in Park, which cost more. Shower, restrooms, dog park. Propane for sale here.

      Beehive Point Shoreline Campground

      Great Location With Caution

This was a nice short distance away from the i5. Great view of greenery and lake and the night stars. If you happen to have pets be cautious there is a lot of broken glass everywhere, my dog had several cuts on her pads.

      Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort

      Beautiful place to stay!

I absolutely loved camping here with friends. And we already can’t wait to book another trip! Breath-taking view of Mt. Shasta was just around the corner from our site. Very clean, family/pet friendly, hiking, fishing, and swimming! Overall a wonderful stay!

      Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort

Great camping for tent or RV

We highly recommend this campground as they have all the amenities…a general store, boat rental, cabin rental, activities for the kiddos, a dog park and pub. Water, toilets and showers are readily available, though a bit in need of a good coat of paint and showers need cleaning/updating .

      Hayward Flat

      Family camp out

The campground was beautiful with easy access to the lake and spacious sites that easily fit our large family. This campground was also pet friendly and welcoming to our dogs as well. Our only complaints were that there was no lightning in the bathroom and the quiet hours were not enforced as we were woken up by loud partying well after 2 am.

      Mt. Lassen-Shingletown KOA

      Wonderful!

So, we already knew we were in trouble. Lassen Volcanic was closed(it was on fire), which is the whole reason we were here. Lots of smoke, but the campground wasn't in danger. We came in anyway. This was the last stop before we started home.

The campground had a lot of cancellations, so it was unusually quiet. That didn't bother us! We had a back in site- 33. The best site in the campground! It's close to the dog park if you have a dog.

The bathroom/shower is 3 sites down. Very clean.

Also close to the walking trail, basketball/volleyball courts& a neat tree swing. All this is under tall pines. This isn't a large campground, but it's VERY nice. Lots of trees& shady. Has a gift shop at the office.

The pool was open. Lots of hornets& 2 people got stung while in the pool. They have traps out, but the hornets are persistent!

Laundry I didn't use, but it's there if you need it. Everything was very clean. Service was friendly.

So, this is a good base for Lassen Volcanic. Since we couldn't go, there's other things to see. McArthur Burney Falls is a bit of a drive, but well worth it. We also stopped at Subway Cave, which we loved& Hat Creek Rim Overlook(which was a waste of time with the smoke). The rest of the day we chilled at the pool! We will definitely be back someday to see Lassen!

    Guide to Shasta

Dispersed camping options near Shasta provide alternatives to established campgrounds for visitors with pets. The region sits at elevations between 600-3,500 feet in the Sacramento River watershed, creating varied camping environments from riverside to mountain terrain. Summer temperatures in the region frequently exceed 95°F from June through September, making water access important for comfort.

    What to do

Creek exploration: Peltier Bridge Primitive Campground offers creek access where campers can wade and explore. "Loved listening to the creek while falling asleep, lots of shade and the staff was friendly. Sites are nicely spread apart #8 #9 being the best that were open," notes Valerie T.

Water recreation: Oak Bottom Tent Campground provides lake access for swimming and boating. One visitor mentions, "Our site had private water access and was a good distance from adjacent sites. I really can't say enough good things about my time here."

Stargazing: Beehive Point Shoreline Campground offers excellent night sky viewing opportunities. A camper observed, "Great view of greenery and lake and the night stars," making it ideal for astronomy enthusiasts.

    What campers like

Privacy between sites: Campers value the separation at certain campgrounds. At Cline Gulch BLM Dispersed, a visitor noted, "We stayed on a Thursday night until Friday morning and there were only a few other people there, we could see any of them from our spot so we felt totally isolated."

Clean facilities: Many campers mention facility cleanliness as a highlight. One review of Mountain Gate RV Park states, "We loved our stay. We felt safe and it's probably one of the most cleanest campground and facilities I've ever been to. Clean bathrooms, showers, zero trash around."

Water sounds: The sound of flowing water enhances the camping experience. At Peltier Bridge, a camper shared, "The creek is super beautiful. It was really hot during the day like 90s but site #9 is shady and the river is freezing so it's easy to stay cool."

    What you should know

Fire restrictions: Fire regulations vary by location and season. At Cline Gulch, a reviewer advised, "Don't forget to get a CA fire permit if you want a fire or to use a camping stove it only takes a few mins to obtain online."

Site variations: Some campgrounds have significant differences between sites. At Oak Bottom, a camper explained, "The shoreline sites allow you your own little spot on the lake, although some seemed better than others. Site was sloped and uneven but did have a couple flat spots for tents."

Wildlife presence: Bears and other wildlife necessitate proper food storage. At Brandy Creek RV Campground, campers must use provided bear boxes, as the area has active wildlife populations including black bears.

    Tips for camping with families

Best tent sites: Families seeking tent camping should consider specific areas. "Sites 8 and 9 are a little more secluded in the back," notes a Peltier Bridge camper, making these locations better for families needing more space.

Pet-friendly activities: For pet-friendly camping near Shasta, California, consider shoreline access points. Beehive Point offers water access where "The kids loved playing and swimming in the river," although one reviewer cautions, "If you happen to have pets be cautious there is a lot of broken glass everywhere."

Temperature planning: Prepare for temperature fluctuations. "It was really hot during the day like 90s but site #9 is shady and the river is freezing so it's easy to stay cool. Gets pretty cold at night," reports a Peltier Bridge visitor.

    Tips from RVers

Late arrival procedures: RVers arriving after office hours should note check-in protocols. At Sacramento River RV Park, "The late night check in was easy. The map they provided to pick out a spot was easy to read, the instruction were clear and concise."

Parking challenges: Some RV sites have limited parking. At Peltier Bridge, a camper mentioned, "Don't think we could have fit more than 1 car to park there," which is important for RVers traveling with multiple vehicles.

Cell service availability: Cell reception varies greatly throughout the Shasta region. At Beehive Point, visitors report "Had like 1 bar of spotty service only enough for maybe a phone call (Verizon)," while others note "The ATT phone was able to browse the internet and stream video, the Verizon phone could only send texts."
