    Fiddlers Cove RV Park

Great RV Park - We love it!

Very clean and well maintained but rather small RV park collocated with a nice marina. This is a military installation so it’s not open to the public. This is our go to staycation place on San Diego bay. Close enough to Coronado but far enough to be secluded. 20/30/50 amp power, water, and cable TV connections on the pedestals. Most spaces are back-in, but some are pull-through. Pet friendly with disposal stations, and the park has a nice mini-mart.

    Pechanga RV Resort

This Is A Resort With All Amenities

I spent a few nights using my Passport America discount at Pechanga RV Resort. I really liked it there. This is now one of my favorite RV resorts in California except for the showers. It is clean, well-maintained, concrete, level pads, full hookups, 168 site spaces, 20-30-50 amp power, 5 luxury spaces that The park itself is clean, well-maintained, concrete, level pads, full hookups, 168 site spaces, 20-30-50 amp power, 5 luxury spaces that is fenced in with gazebo, and picnic tables. First of all, it is part of the Casino with entertainment and restaurants. This casino reminds me of the Vegas casinos and now is under construction to make it a real Vegas Style Resort. It’s going to be finished sometimes in 2017.

The RV resort itself has a nice heated pool, Jacuzzi, ping pong table. They also have a golf club which could be important for some. One thing I hated is the showers. The RV resort shower has a timer set to 25 seconds and the showerhead is not able to stand upright. So you basically have to hold the shower in one hand and keep pressing the timer every 25 seconds. It’s December, it’s cold in the shower, especially because the water keeps shutting off. You end up standing soaking wet putting soap on yourself in the cold.

I wonder if the hotel rooms have timer on the showers as well. The person who came up with this idea should take showers in there each night. It pet-friendly resort, they also have an area for dogs. If you heading to the casino, they have a shuttle service 24/7 which picks ups from and drop-offs to and from your space. You have to call a number and they are there to pick you up in minutes.

About the WiFi! It’s the best WiFi ever in any parks I’ve so far visited! I wasn’t even close to the main building and had a great reception. I am able to use my Roku to watch Netflix and can use my laptop as well for work. I didn’t even need my Sprint or Verizon, but both work fine. Across the street, there is a 2-mile bike/walk trail. Using this and riding around the nice neighborhoods it was a fun way to get some exercise.

    Fiddlers Cove RV Park

    Military RV park

Water front back in sites, pull through sites, other back in sites not waterfront and two tent sites. Don’t book with the concierge service. Easier to call the campground itself. Cell service is great and they have WiFi. Clean restrooms with shower. Water, sewage and power hook ups (30&50 amp). Small store and a boat house you can rent stuff like kayaks and paddle boards from. Great hidden gem.

    Lake Jennings

    Hidden Gem

This place is truly a hidden gem. Just 30 minutes from San Diego, with friendly staff and partial or full hookups. We were in a preferred lake view site#96 which had water and electric hookups. There was a play area that had ladder golf, tetherball, and ping pong. Have extra guess? Have them reserve a Tipi that has a max of 6 people. We had thee bars on our Version service and the campground WIFI is one of the best I have seen camping. Lake Jennings has some supplies available as well such as ice, propane, firewood, etc. at reasonable prices. Bathrooms and showers are clean. There is a dump station in the campground, and I suggest checking out the best way to get into the dump station before taking your rig. there are several roads around the dump station but only one that takes you in straight without having to make a sharp turn and possibly having to back up. The lake is drinking water for the local town and therefore no swimming allowed but they do stock the lake with fish. Just a long walk or short drive to the other side of the Lake and you can go fishing or boating. I would not suggest checking in early. The road in is very narrow and if you arrive before the noon checkout time you may find yourself falling into the lake while trying to squeeze by another on coming RV or trailer.

Palm Canyon Hotel & RV Resort

Family Friendly Borrego Springs full with hookups

A nice little (120 spaces or so) full hookup (30 and 50 amp) campground.  We paid $289 for 5 nights. Clean, well maintained and full of families.  Very close to downtown and Anza-Borrego Visitor Center.  Spaces are good size, no problems fitting our 30' toy hauler towed by F250, and the park is well laid out and easy to drive. Checkin was fast and easy.  There are full time residents, but they are in a different section.  We used it as a base for hiking and off-roading at Octotillo Wells (both recommended, but bring as much water as you  can carry). The property has an old west theme, and there is also a hotel , laundromat and restaurant. If you have never visited this part of California, be advised that the wind here can be VERY intense, especially at night.  Also note that Borrego Springs is a dark sky community, so please be respectful and remember to look up and enjoy the stars.

Paradise By The Sea RV Resort

    Amazing RV Resort Near Beach

A nicely appointed RV resort in downtown Oceanside with an awesome staff. Pull-through and back-in, full hookup spots available. Cable, wi-fi, a clubhouse with TV and PlayStation for the kids, pool table, games to check out, and a small swimming pool and hot tub. There are also outdoor community areas with ping-pong, bean-bag toss, grills, and other activities.

The resort is only a 5- minute walk to the beach and not far from Oceanside restaurants and shops. While it’s a tad spendy, you really do get a lot for your money with a great near beach location.

    Thousand Trails Pio Pico

    Be Truthful

I’m new to RV’s, and the lifestyle. I’ve been planning on full time RV living for the last 10 months. Pio Pico is the 1st RV park I’ve stayed at. I was enjoying my quite solitude, when my closest neighbor told me, one of the workers has tested positive for Covid-19, so I hauled ass out of there. Luckily, I didn’t have any human contact whatsoever with anyone there during my stay. I have bronchial asthma, so I wasn’t taking any chances.
Too bad, because it felt remote, quiet, and was only a nice 7 mile drive from grocery stores, retail stores, food, gas, etc., if you needed anything. 30 amp, and water at site. Dumping area with two stations. Nice paths to hike, or walk your dog. Laundry was open, but only facility I used was the dump station. I didn’t get any TV reception, but others did. I didn’t have a powered antenna, but I do now. The internet was slow and iffy. They said they were working on it. I got to see a few shows on Netflix, Hulu, YouTube... No cell service at all, but I did get a little with my WeBoost. I wasn’t expecting much with mountains all around. I would have given another star, but keeping something like a worker testing positive for covid-19 from customers is not a good business idea. I’d probably give them another try though, since it had the seclusion I was looking for.

Tamarisk Grove Campground — Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

    Beautiful desert campground

Cool campground, quiet but busy with day use visitors and hikers, host available with lots of info at kiosk.

A bit pricey at $35/night. No hookups available, no dump station. RV max length is 21 ft. Hike/bike spots $5/per person, day use fee is $10.

No water here for drinking, but there are spigots throughout the campground. Showers available, pay via token.

Just about no cell service here. Very nice short loop trail just across the street, bursting with flowers in the spring.  Plenty of room to park your vehicle (even big rigs) outside the campground along the road.

Guide to Santee

Several RV campgrounds near Santee, California offer camping options beyond standard hookups. Located in San Diego County at approximately 400 feet elevation, Santee experiences mild Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and mild winters. Most campgrounds in the area feature seasonal activities with swimming pools that remain open year-round due to the temperate weather conditions.

What to do

Hiking trails access: Oak Creek RV Resort connects to hiking paths where campers can enjoy native California landscapes. "It was really nice spending some time here, we saw it on the app and wanted to check it out. We live close in the area. I had no idea there was a little lake here, it's very pretty!" shared one visitor to Oak Creek RV Resort.

Water recreation options: Fiddlers Cove RV Park offers equipment rentals for water activities. "Kayak, boat, SUP available for rental. Easy access to all of San Diego," notes a camper at Fiddlers Cove RV Park, which requires military ID for access. The park sits directly on the bay, providing immediate water access.

Outdoor games: Many Santee-area campgrounds maintain recreational facilities. Mission Bay RV Resort features "a nice basketball court and clean bathrooms. There is a gated pool and hot tub," according to a recent visitor. The park also connects to a mile-long path along the bay.

What campers like

Security features: The gated entrance at Ramona Oaks RV Resort provides campers with additional safety. "Has a coded security gate which changes monthly. Has a pool, spa, playground, barn, RV storage, laundry, restrooms with showers, catch & release pond," notes one visitor to Ramona Oaks RV Resort, located about 30 minutes from Santee.

Concrete pads: Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay stands out for its site quality. "Elite Full Hookup RV Site includes your very own gas fire BBQ grill, gas camp fire, 4 Adirondack chairs, dinner table with 6 chairs, full hookups including cable tv," explains a camper at Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay. The park maintains 197 sites with premium amenities.

Resort-style amenities: Several RV campgrounds near Santee feature extensive recreation options. "Pool, places to eat and drink. The staff is always friendly," mentions one Sun Outdoors visitor. Another notes, "Great pool area. Splash pad for the little ones, bar for the bigger ones, activities poolside and HUGE TV! Food service as well."

What you should know

Traffic noise levels: Highway proximity affects several campgrounds. "RV park is between highway and main road - no quiet found here," reports one visitor about Circle RV Resort. Similarly, at San Diego RV Resort, "This RV resort is situated between free ways. Road noise is the main issue. Otherwise it's a very nice and well maintained RV resort."

Cell service quality: T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon service varies significantly between locations. "The phone service was non-existent, and the wifi didn't reach our spot. Apparently after speaking with other residents, it doesn't really reach most of the park," reports a Mission Bay RV Resort visitor.

Water quality issues: Some campgrounds report periodic problems with water systems. A Ramona Oaks visitor noted, "Nice quiet and clean campground. With a lots of hiking trails and activities to do. The only downside is the drinking water has issues."

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Pools provide recreation when beaches aren't convenient. "We went camping in August, during a heatwave, and had Covid restrictions. Even with all of that, we had a good time! Bathrooms were clean and stocked with supplies. Pool was nice and refreshing but had little shaded areas," reports a visitor to Ramona Oaks RV Resort.

Playground access: Children need dedicated play areas at campgrounds. "They do have a nice playground for the kids," notes one Ramona Oaks visitor. Similarly, Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay features "a comfort station with a playground and horse shoe pits."

Farm experiences: For unique camping, consider Thompson Palms Campground. "My family and I had an excellent time at the Thompson's farm! We stayed a few weeks, hanging out with their cows and chickens! Their eggs are fantastic and so beautiful I almost didn't want to crack the shells!" shares a visitor to this small 3-site facility.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: Choose sites away from entrance gates when possible. At Escondido RV Resort, "People are complaining about freeway noise, we stayed in site 3 (the closest site to the freeway) and it was quiet as a mouse from inside our (insulated) RV," shares one camper at Escondido RV Resort.

Laundry facilities: Bring sufficient quarters or cards for laundry facilities. "Laundry is with your debit card, but wicked expensive, $3.75 wash, $3.75 dry," notes one camper about Circle RV Resort facilities. Multiple RV parks in the area charge $5 or more per complete load.

Reservation timing: Book well ahead for peak seasons, especially winter months. Summer temperatures often exceed 90°F, while winter averages 65-70°F, making the Santee area particularly popular with snowbirds seeking moderate winter temperatures.
