Dockweiler Beach RV Park sits directly on the Pacific Ocean shoreline with separate camping areas for hookup sites and dry camping. The dry camping section typically remains quieter with more space between sites compared to the main RV area. Sites in the dry camping section numbered 125-128 offer particularly desirable locations. According to camper feedback, airplane noise from nearby LAX becomes less noticeable over time. The campground connects to an extensive coastal bike path extending over 20 miles in both directions.
What to do
Water sports access: The beachfront location at Bolsa Chica State Beach Campground allows immediate access to swimming and water activities. "Great spot where you are never alone. Depending on the season, the lot can be packed. It is accommodating for some different size vehicles and has direct beach access and some amenities such as fire pits on the beach," notes Amanda K.
Hiking opportunities: San Gabriel Valley provides access to multiple trail systems. At Malibu Creek State Park Campground, campers can explore former movie sets and wilderness areas. "The state park is a former movie set and is filled with easily accessible trails for hiking and some for mountain biking. The primary trails were open fire roads with off-shoots to lakes, pools, meadows, and more," explains Ryan W.
Urban exploration: Staying at Anaheim Harbor RV Park positions visitors near major attractions. "Close to shopping and stores. On-site guard at night for safety," shares Tracey S. The park is within walking distance of Disneyland, approximately "a mile each way" according to Jennifer H., making it convenient for day trips.
What campers like
Ocean views: Malibu Beach RV Park delivers exceptional Pacific Ocean vistas from an elevated position. "Most amazing views of the pacific from the ocean view sites. Friendly staff at check in and wonderful experience, even despite the pouring rain," reports Nicole M. The park also features a lounge area overlooking the water.
Direct beach access: Many campers appreciate the proximity to shorelines. "The park is right next to the beach, walk 1 minute and you're there. There's also a bike path that goes for miles both north or south - great for an early workout," notes Ignasi M. about Dockweiler Beach RV Park.
Clean facilities: Golden Shore RV Resort maintains high standards for cleanliness. "Very well maintained campground. The spots are groomed and clean when you come in. Great Long Beach location, a nice bike ride along the beach to Naples and the Queen Mary," writes Theo A. The resort offers a swimming pool, hot tub, and clean laundry facilities.
What you should know
Noise considerations: Highway proximity affects several campgrounds. "Great location. I mean what can I say to diminish a beach spot for 60 bucks? How about a motorcycle passing right outside your bedroom window at 12,000 rpm every two minutes all night long? Yeah, that'll do it. Bring earplugs and lots of white noise," warns Rob N. about Bolsa Chica.
Site spacing varies: Expect significant differences in site spacing between campgrounds. "The spaces aren't huge so if you have a big rig or large trailer it will be tight. Most trailers parked their tow vehicle perpendicular to the space and some barely fit," explains Michele H.
Wildlife awareness: Canyon Campground — Leo Carrillo State Park Campground has active wildlife. "Spotted a few rats at night, so definitely store your food properly," advises Alfred. At Malibu Creek State Park, "coyotes were wandering through the park and campground without fear. If you have a dog with you make sure they don't try join the pack."
Tips for camping with families
Beach camping with children: Dog friendly campgrounds near Manhattan Beach offer varied experiences for families. "We spent an entire week there 02/2018. We enjoyed it. Super clean. Showers, toilets and laundry well taken care off. Everyone was friendly and you cannot beat the price!" shares Nadine T. about Seabreeze at Seal Beach.
Pool access: Children appreciate swimming options at several locations. "My girls LOVED staying here. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat with my kids for a Disneyland vacation," writes Jessica R. about Anaheim Harbor RV Park, noting that "after setting up camp we had REALLY nice showers, then we spent time in the pool."
Wagon recommendation: When camping near beaches, bring transport assistance for gear. At Leo Carrillo State Park Campground, "the best part about this campground is definitely the beach access- it's about a 10-minute walk from most sites... Bring a wagon if you're hauling beach gear though, as the walk can feel long with all your stuff."
Tips from RVers
Site selection strategy: At Bonelli Bluffs, RVers recommend choosing carefully. "Sites very close to each other; a bit loud due to airport nearby. Very friendly staff," notes Anna X. The campground offers both standard and premium sites with varied amenities and spacing.
Space limitations: Most beachside RV parks have compact layouts. "The RV park has a hookup area and a dry camping area. The hookups are full of large rigs, very close one with another, in a parking lot style. The dry camp provides much more space, but only relatively small RVs," explains Ignasi M.
Extra costs: Budget for additional fees at certain locations. "Standard sites may be too narrow to extend awning. Despite Disneyland being a family destination, their campsites are for 2 people only. You must pay for each additional person over 10 years old," advises Prentice F. about pricing structures at Anaheim Harbor.
