Most RV parks in the area accommodate pets with designated dog areas, though quality varies significantly. Cell service is generally strong throughout coastal San Diego County, with visitors reporting "great reception" and "reliable WiFi" at multiple locations. Reservation requirements differ seasonally, with summer months demanding bookings 2-3 months in advance, particularly for premium waterfront sites. Many parks enforce RV age restrictions, with some requiring photos of older units before accepting reservations. Paradise By The Sea visitors appreciate the park's proximity to beaches, with one reviewer noting the "awesome staff" and "pull-through and back-in, full hookup spots" that make beach access convenient for RV campers.

    Fiddlers Cove RV Park

Great RV Park - We love it!

Very clean and well maintained but rather small RV park collocated with a nice marina. This is a military installation so it’s not open to the public. This is our go to staycation place on San Diego bay. Close enough to Coronado but far enough to be secluded. 20/30/50 amp power, water, and cable TV connections on the pedestals. Most spaces are back-in, but some are pull-through. Pet friendly with disposal stations, and the park has a nice mini-mart.

    Pechanga RV Resort

This Is A Resort With All Amenities

I spent a few nights using my Passport America discount at Pechanga RV Resort. I really liked it there. This is now one of my favorite RV resorts in California except for the showers. It is clean, well-maintained, concrete, level pads, full hookups, 168 site spaces, 20-30-50 amp power, 5 luxury spaces that The park itself is clean, well-maintained, concrete, level pads, full hookups, 168 site spaces, 20-30-50 amp power, 5 luxury spaces that is fenced in with gazebo, and picnic tables. First of all, it is part of the Casino with entertainment and restaurants. This casino reminds me of the Vegas casinos and now is under construction to make it a real Vegas Style Resort. It’s going to be finished sometimes in 2017.

The RV resort itself has a nice heated pool, Jacuzzi, ping pong table. They also have a golf club which could be important for some. One thing I hated is the showers. The RV resort shower has a timer set to 25 seconds and the showerhead is not able to stand upright. So you basically have to hold the shower in one hand and keep pressing the timer every 25 seconds. It’s December, it’s cold in the shower, especially because the water keeps shutting off. You end up standing soaking wet putting soap on yourself in the cold.

I wonder if the hotel rooms have timer on the showers as well. The person who came up with this idea should take showers in there each night. It pet-friendly resort, they also have an area for dogs. If you heading to the casino, they have a shuttle service 24/7 which picks ups from and drop-offs to and from your space. You have to call a number and they are there to pick you up in minutes.

About the WiFi! It’s the best WiFi ever in any parks I’ve so far visited! I wasn’t even close to the main building and had a great reception. I am able to use my Roku to watch Netflix and can use my laptop as well for work. I didn’t even need my Sprint or Verizon, but both work fine. Across the street, there is a 2-mile bike/walk trail. Using this and riding around the nice neighborhoods it was a fun way to get some exercise.

    Fiddlers Cove RV Park

    Military RV park

Water front back in sites, pull through sites, other back in sites not waterfront and two tent sites. Don’t book with the concierge service. Easier to call the campground itself. Cell service is great and they have WiFi. Clean restrooms with shower. Water, sewage and power hook ups (30&50 amp). Small store and a boat house you can rent stuff like kayaks and paddle boards from. Great hidden gem.

    Lake Jennings

    Hidden Gem

This place is truly a hidden gem. Just 30 minutes from San Diego, with friendly staff and partial or full hookups. We were in a preferred lake view site#96 which had water and electric hookups. There was a play area that had ladder golf, tetherball, and ping pong. Have extra guess? Have them reserve a Tipi that has a max of 6 people. We had thee bars on our Version service and the campground WIFI is one of the best I have seen camping. Lake Jennings has some supplies available as well such as ice, propane, firewood, etc. at reasonable prices. Bathrooms and showers are clean. There is a dump station in the campground, and I suggest checking out the best way to get into the dump station before taking your rig. there are several roads around the dump station but only one that takes you in straight without having to make a sharp turn and possibly having to back up. The lake is drinking water for the local town and therefore no swimming allowed but they do stock the lake with fish. Just a long walk or short drive to the other side of the Lake and you can go fishing or boating. I would not suggest checking in early. The road in is very narrow and if you arrive before the noon checkout time you may find yourself falling into the lake while trying to squeeze by another on coming RV or trailer.

Paradise By The Sea RV Resort

    Amazing RV Resort Near Beach

A nicely appointed RV resort in downtown Oceanside with an awesome staff. Pull-through and back-in, full hookup spots available. Cable, wi-fi, a clubhouse with TV and PlayStation for the kids, pool table, games to check out, and a small swimming pool and hot tub. There are also outdoor community areas with ping-pong, bean-bag toss, grills, and other activities.

The resort is only a 5- minute walk to the beach and not far from Oceanside restaurants and shops. While it’s a tad spendy, you really do get a lot for your money with a great near beach location.

    Thousand Trails Pio Pico

    Be Truthful

I’m new to RV’s, and the lifestyle. I’ve been planning on full time RV living for the last 10 months. Pio Pico is the 1st RV park I’ve stayed at. I was enjoying my quite solitude, when my closest neighbor told me, one of the workers has tested positive for Covid-19, so I hauled ass out of there. Luckily, I didn’t have any human contact whatsoever with anyone there during my stay. I have bronchial asthma, so I wasn’t taking any chances.
Too bad, because it felt remote, quiet, and was only a nice 7 mile drive from grocery stores, retail stores, food, gas, etc., if you needed anything. 30 amp, and water at site. Dumping area with two stations. Nice paths to hike, or walk your dog. Laundry was open, but only facility I used was the dump station. I didn’t get any TV reception, but others did. I didn’t have a powered antenna, but I do now. The internet was slow and iffy. They said they were working on it. I got to see a few shows on Netflix, Hulu, YouTube... No cell service at all, but I did get a little with my WeBoost. I wasn’t expecting much with mountains all around. I would have given another star, but keeping something like a worker testing positive for covid-19 from customers is not a good business idea. I’d probably give them another try though, since it had the seclusion I was looking for.

    Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park

One of the Best County Parks you will find

This is a great park in Southern Orange County. I have tent camped here for years with my kids in the Live Oak campground and never had a bad experience. There are hiking trails everywhere with lots of wildlife to watch. I switched to a travel trailer several years ago and now use Ortega Flats campground. The sites are big and well spaced, with 30 amp electric. The water is off for the time being. The dump station is very close by and easy to access.

Guide to Encinitas

RV camping near Encinitas, California provides access to coastal attractions while offering a range of facilities from basic to resort-style accommodations. The region experiences a Mediterranean climate with year-round average temperatures between 60-75°F, making it suitable for camping in all seasons. Sites throughout northern San Diego County require advance reservations, particularly during summer and holiday periods when availability becomes extremely limited.

What to do

Beach activities at Paradise By The Sea RV Resort: The resort features a back gate leading directly to beach access areas. "We loved the quick walk to the beach. The resort is nice, about what you expect for space at an urban resort," notes Don M., highlighting the easy coastal access from this Oceanside location.

Watersports at Fiddler's Cove: Located on San Diego Bay, this military-only RV park provides rental equipment for water recreation. "Adjacent to the marina, so many boats, kayaks and watercraft are available for rent," shares Chuck T. The protected bay waters create calmer conditions than ocean beaches, suitable for beginners.

Biking on coastal paths: Mission Bay RV Resort connects to extensive bayfront cycling routes. "There's a path that goes along the bay that is about a mile long, and also a bridge that connects the park to Campland on the Bay," explains Juliet L. Visitors should bring their own bikes or check rental options at nearby shops.

What campers like

Resort-style amenities: Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay offers numerous entertainment options. "They quite literally have everything to the point where you can't even do all of it. Sites come with a picnic table and 4 chairs around a nice propane fire tank," reports Lance L., who appreciated the secure entry system with keycards.

Pool facilities: Paradise By The Sea maintains pool and hot tub areas for visitor use. "Pool and hot tub well maintained. Easy access to beach and a mild walk to the pier," writes David T. The resort also features both indoor and outdoor recreation areas with games and social spaces.

Family activities: Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay includes specialized areas for different age groups. "Splash pad for the little ones, bar for the bigger ones, activities poolside and HUGE TV! Food service as well," notes yawkub, who also mentioned the adjacent nature center that offers discounts to campers.

What you should know

Proximity to train tracks: Many coastal RV parks experience regular train noise. While staying at Oceanside RV Resort, one reviewer noted, "For tent campers - pretty solid place for a quick couple stays" but warned "There is a rail right behind the tent sites so if you are looking for the tent sites with quiet location: PLEASE STAY AWAY from here."

Space limitations: Most RV parks in this region have compact sites. At Circle RV Resort, Tom W. observed: "Place is well taken care of, but there are a lot of regular residents, and they park their cars everywhere. Empty spaces, half in the space, half in the street, it was nuts."

RV age restrictions: Several parks maintain appearance standards that limit older vehicles. As one Olive Avenue RV Resort visitor reported: "Arbitrarily rejected accepting our motorhome based on a picture I sent, which they undoubtedly did not even check. Never explained why." Contact parks directly about age policies before booking.

Tips for camping with families

Entertainment options: Multiple campgrounds offer dedicated facilities for children. At Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay, facilities include "an arcade for the kids. There is also a comfort station with a playground and horse shoe pits," according to yawkub.

Tent camping availability: Most parks primarily accommodate RVs but Oceanside RV Resort provides tent-specific sites. "There are 5 spots where you can walk your stuff and camp right on the beach. Each spot was secluded and had a picnic table and a good size area for your tent," shares Alicia F.

Bathroom facilities: When traveling with children, clean facilities become essential. One camper at Oceanside RV Resort emphasized this point: "First, the campsite has the MOST CLEANEST restroom and shower booths I have ever visited for tent camping."

Tips from RVers

Leveling challenges: Many coastal sites require adjustment for drainage. Michael noted at Olive Avenue RV Resort: "We had a pull through site with full hook ups; it was on a cement pad that was nice, but the city made them slope all the pads for water drainage... a huge amount! We maxed out our tongue on multiple boards to level off."

Utility connections: Some parks have unusual hookup placements. A Mission Bay RV Resort visitor warned: "The connections are at the front of the space on the drivers side. If you back in you better have 100 feet of hose sewer and power cord."

Seasonal considerations: Escondido RV Resort has shown resilience during extreme weather. John H. reported: "Despite facing challenging weather conditions with heavy rain and hail from an atmospheric river, everything continued to function seamlessly- from the electric hookups to the water supply. The drainage system was impeccable, preventing any issues with mudslides even in such extreme weather."
