Best RV Parks & Resorts near Bermuda Dunes, CA

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV parks around Bermuda Dunes accommodate large motorhomes with full hookup service. Emerald Desert RV Resort in Palm Desert offers concrete pads with 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections. Shadow Hills RV Resort in Indio features spacious sites with privacy hedges between motorhome spots and accepts big rigs year-round. Thousand Trails Palm Springs provides seasonal camping from September to May with both 30-amp and 50-amp full hookup sites on white sand pads. Coachella Lakes RV Resort maintains 361 RV sites with both 50-amp and 30-amp service options. "The spots were all concrete but we unfortunately got one that was an end spot so it angled down to one side quite a bit. It was difficult for us to get level and cost us our patio area."

Most RV parks in the region have sanitary dump stations, with daily trash pickup common at upscale resorts like Emerald Desert and Shadow Hills. Road noise affects several parks, particularly those near Interstate 10 and railroad tracks. A visitor commented that "Interstate 10 and a set of major East-West train tracks lie right behind the resort, but neither were very disruptive to us." Cell service is generally strong throughout the area with 5G available at many locations. Pet-friendly policies exist at all major RV parks, though dedicated dog parks vary in size and maintenance. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F, making the October-April window most popular for RV travelers. Advance reservations are strongly recommended during winter months when snowbirds fill many parks to capacity.

Cottonwood Campground — Joshua Tree National Park

    Very nice but small sites

I really liked this campground. It’s one of the campground inside Joshua Tree NP and reservable through Recreation.gov. The sites are very private but they are small. Both the pull through and back in sites are small so this is definitely not for big rigs. We had A19 which is a pull through on the right side of the road and we had to go into the gravel part of the site so we would be in enough to open our driver side slide out. And we ended up pretty slanted as a result, but it fit. There are flush toilets that are very clean. This side of the park is very nice but most of the action is north of here and so we’re an hour drive to a lot of the hikes we want to do. No cell service at all.

    Thousand Trails Palm Springs

    Lovely TT RV Resort!!!

The is a beautiful Thousand Trails RV Resort in Palm Springs, California! The park is large, very spacious and so clean! The gorgeous Palm trees are a little bit of a parking hazard, but they were here before we were! 😊 And besides, they are so beautiful to look at every day. The park feels like a day on beach with white sand to park on in most spaces, towering Palm trees, and brightly colored tropical flowers. What a treat in the winter! We are here in November and December and daytime high’s are in the low 80’s. The park is split in half with one side 30 amp FHU and the other half 50 amp FHU. For TT members, there is not an additional charge for 50 amp. Quite a deal! There is plenty of room to get out and walk in this park, along with a nice dog park, playground, billiards room, swimming pool and spa, horseshoes, 8 pickle ball courts, many laundry rooms and restrooms, and community recreation room. The surrounding mountains ranges are pretty amazing, too. This park is close to it all in the Palm Springs area and everything is within a short drive. Joshua Tree National Park and the Salton Sea is just over a half hour away. The Thousand Trails Palm Springs RV Resort is perfect and we will definitely be visiting again!

    Shadow Hills RV Resort

    Urban Glamping during Covid

Shadow Hills RV Resort is a stellar urban RV resort with all the amenities. Full hookups, daily trash pickups at each site, cable tv, large level pads with privacy hedge, small dog parks scattered throughout, gated security, nice restrooms w/ showers (free). We were visiting family who were just a short bike ride away. Can be extremely windy here. Desert X environmental art installations are nearby.

    Thousand Trails Palm Springs

    Concrete Condo Camping

A well managed, well-kept park. Plenty of 50-amp sites, which usually means BIG rigs, are all back-in. The mature date palms and tight sites makes parking and manuevering diffecult for big rigs. Very lively community; lots of people out, kid playing. Proximity to Interstate 10 and railroad tracks makes it a bit noisy. But, it's NOT too bad. Plenty of TV stations along with 5G cell service. It's not in the rules so, I believe I'm allowed to wash my rig.

Palm Canyon Hotel & RV Resort

Family Friendly Borrego Springs full with hookups

A nice little (120 spaces or so) full hookup (30 and 50 amp) campground.  We paid $289 for 5 nights. Clean, well maintained and full of families.  Very close to downtown and Anza-Borrego Visitor Center.  Spaces are good size, no problems fitting our 30' toy hauler towed by F250, and the park is well laid out and easy to drive. Checkin was fast and easy.  There are full time residents, but they are in a different section.  We used it as a base for hiking and off-roading at Octotillo Wells (both recommended, but bring as much water as you  can carry). The property has an old west theme, and there is also a hotel , laundromat and restaurant. If you have never visited this part of California, be advised that the wind here can be VERY intense, especially at night.  Also note that Borrego Springs is a dark sky community, so please be respectful and remember to look up and enjoy the stars.

    Pineknot

Pineknot Campground, Big Bear Lake, Ca

A bit challenging to locate via Google Maps... Just go up (south) Summit Blvd, when you get to the parking lot of the ski resort, veer towards the left, and just past a concrete wall, you'll see the little Pineknot Campground sign attached to an aluminium pole. The campground is very cozy, countless tall pine trees, clean bathrooms, clean sites, water from taps, no hookups, and not for big rigs. The hosts are friendly, but strict! No generators from 8 pm to 8 am, a $3000 fine if your campfire is left unattended, and no rowdy obnoxious behavior is tolerated! We appreciated the rules, and thoroughly enjoyed our peaceful, quiet, deep in the woods getaway!!

    Catalina Spa and RV Resort

Nice place, good value for money

Great for long term RV camping with hookups. They have nice hot springs pools, decent cell signal, and reasonable prices for full hookups. Camp sites are on the small side so neighbors are close, but at least they put plants in between to give you a little privacy.

Joshua Tree Lake RV & Campground

    Quiet, private and unique

A great spot away from the main Joshua Tree strip. We visited for one night during the waning height of COVID and staff was taking all the necessary precautions. There were some restrooms and dish cleaning station available, though we didn’t use them. Spaces were clean and tidy and, although close together, were separated by beautiful bushes that kept it feeling private. Lots of birds around and great views of the desert and mountains. Fire ants were everywhere, so wear shoes. Most of the spots don’t have individual sewer connection but access to shared dump station. Everything was in great condition. The art installations and theatre looked so cool, but were closed temporarily. The lake was super cool and teeming with wildlife. Very reasonably priced for 50 amp & water hookup per night. Very easy access with 25’ trailer. We will definitely return.

    Palm Springs-Joshua Tree KOA

    Value for the area

Near and clean campground with clean restrooms requiring a key code to enter. Two laundry rooms. One large pool and three spas (hot tubs to folks not from So Cal) all heated with naturally heated mineral water. Secure. Park staff drive around at night to keep an eye on things. Most camps are close to the neighbors but most folks are quiet. Pay extra foe larger or premium campsites. Play area for the kids by the office. Put-put golf. Not much shade but many hedges. Gravel parking. Separate are for tents, communal sinks. Few trees around. Each camp has a sturdy picnic table. Propane fires only. And probably the same for BBQs. Great AT&T 5G cellular. Wi-Fi is weak, but it’s free.RV spot had fill hookups (water, 30 or 50 amp power, sewer, but no cable TV.

Well run and friendly, responsive staff. Understand that Desert Hot Springs is sometimes WINDY!! And that can mean dust storms, but that goes for the entire Cochella Valley. Not close to anything out here. A convenience store about 1/3 mile away. You won’t be running for coffee here. The the management sometimes hosts events and a weekend breakfast can be purchased.

All rigs are in good repair and I’ve seen nothing sketchy here at all. Been here 3 weeks with 3 more to go.

Bottom line: I would definitely stay here again, but it is a drive to get into DHS or Palm Springs. And it is windy/dusty.

Guide to Bermuda Dunes

RV camping near Bermuda Dunes, California offers access to mineral hot springs and mountain views within the Coachella Valley. Daytime temperatures range from 70-80°F in winter months to over 100°F in summer. Most RV parks in the region operate year-round, with peak season running October through April when temperatures remain moderate.

What to do

Hot springs relaxation: Catalina Spa and RV Resort features natural hot spring-fed pools maintained at approximately 90 degrees. "The pool/spa is currently open, which is a little surprising considering pandemic restrictions so we chose to abstain. We had a nice back-in site. Sites are pretty close together but divided by tall hedges that make for good privacy."

Pickleball tournaments: Indian Waters RV Resort maintains four pickleball courts with regular play. "The park is spacious and clean. Beautiful pool and hot tubs. Four pickleball courts. Clubhouse with lots of activities. Near Palm Springs and lots to explore in the area."

Joshua Tree exploration: Joshua Tree Lake RV & Campground provides convenient access to Joshua Tree National Park, approximately 15 miles from the west entrance. "We stayed here for a week and we absolutely loved our stay! The staff was very friendly and hard working. They ran an easily accessible store on the campgrounds that had lots of last minute necessities. Not to mention the ducks! This RV park is also in super close proximity of the National Park."

What campers like

Privacy landscaping: Shadow Hills RV Resort uses hedges to create separation between sites. "Full hookups, daily trash pickups at each site, cable tv, large level pads with privacy hedge, small dog parks scattered throughout, gated security, nice restrooms w/ showers."

Heated mineral pools: Catalina Spa and RV Resort maintains two mineral water pools at therapeutic temperatures. "We wanted to escape the rain and cold and hit the jackpot with this location. I was concerned that the pools might be closed due to COVID but both pools were open. They are fed by natural hot springs and warmer than most hot tubs."

Winter weather conditions: Thousand Trails Palm Springs attracts snowbirds seeking mild winter temperatures. "Thousand Trails Palm Springs offers a great pool and hot tub area with a lively, mixed-age crowd—perfect if you're in your 30s and looking for variety. The bathrooms and laundry facilities are well-maintained, and the location is unbeatable for exploring Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley."

What you should know

Wind considerations: Many RV parks in the area experience periodic high winds. One camper at Catalina Spa and RV Resort noted, "Nice place with hot spring pools. Lots of amenities. Close to downtown Palm Springs. Only issue is it is terribly windy most of the time."

Site leveling challenges: Some parks have concrete pads but may present leveling difficulties. At Encore Palm Springs Oasis, "The sites were all concrete but we unfortunately got one that was an end spot so it angled down to one side quite a bit. It was difficult for us to get level and costs us our 'patio' area since there wasn't enough room for our rug."

Water quality varies: Oasis Palms RV Resort uses well water with mineral content. "Most important to note the water (sourced from a well) is NOT SAFE to drink or cook with due to excessive arsenic and fluoride. There are however 3 locations in the park with reverse osmosis filters to fill water jugs."

Tips for camping with families

Pool access: Cathedral Palms RV Resort offers heated pool facilities accessible to families. "The staff were great, the location is fantastic, and the heated pool was a big bonus. My favorite touch was the thought put into giving each of the spaces a feeling of privacy using mature shrubs. This is a Resort that seems to have many older patrons, but we felt very welcome with my 3 kids (10,12 and16)."

Miniature golf: Coachella Lakes RV Resort provides recreational facilities for families. "This campground is a luxury resort with immaculate ground keeping and facilities. The pool and hot tub were outstanding as well as the opportunities for fishing, golf putt, putt, and more if you're in the area."

Wildlife viewing: Joshua Tree Lake RV & Campground features a small lake with waterfowl. "There is a nice little pond with lots of birds that my daughter loved. It's out of the town which we like but not far from the Joshua Tree entrance to the park and lots of coffee shops."

Tips from RVers

Navigation challenges: Thousand Trails Palm Springs has tight spacing between palm trees. "Parking big rig between the palm trees can be a challenge."

Sewer hose requirements: Bring extra length for hookups at some resorts. At Indian Waters RV Resort, one camper noted: "Stayed here overnight. Clearly off season as only a few campers here. Nice level concrete pads FHU (bring lots of sewer hose)."

Off-season availability: Many parks have abundant sites available during summer months when temperatures exceed 100°F. At Catalina Spa and RV Resort, "Weekly rate was $35 per night and great amenities. We got a site across from the laundry/pool/bathroom which was also not far from the dog park. We arrived on a Tuesday, so we got to spend a few quiet days before the weekend campers showed up which was nice."
