    Bakersfield River Run RV Park

    Good for overnight

Called to see if they had availability for the night after the office had closed, but a woman answered and gave us late check-in instructions. Clear list of available sites, amenities and prices. Pull-through site we chose wasn’t quite level, but close. The pull-through sites alternate direction of entry. Concrete pad, grassy areas in between on the door-side; neighbor’s hookups on the hookup side. Pad was long enough to stay hooked up and wide enough to have slides out, but if the neighbor on the hookups side has slides on that side, they’d be almost touching . Full hookups worked fine. Restrooms good, but the stall doors didn’t all lock. The freeway noise was pretty constant, and there was an occasional sour smell from the river, I guess. Would stay here again.

    Walker Pass Campground

    Small and Quiet

Along Hwy 178 towards Ridgecrest you'll find this campground that is small but quiet and clean. It is not for big rigs or RVs.

There are 2 sites with fire pits and covered picnic tables that could fit a large van at most. There is one other spot that is level but has no fire pit or covered table. Further back are several scattered picnic tables and tent spots. There are also 2 unisex ADA accessible pit toilet bathrooms which were quite filthy.

This is a stop along the Pacific Crest Trail. The scenery is an amazing mix of Joshua Trees, pines, chaparral, mountains and large rocks, some snow on the peaks facing north. It is close to the highway so there is some road noise and people stopping to use the bathroom. The road in is paved and narrow and potholed but passable.

There was no cell service with AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile.

There is a donation based drop box for camping fee so pay what you want or what you can afford.

Fires and charcoal grills are not allowed per sign at info board, camp stoves are ok.

    Bakersfield River Run RV Park

    Hidden Gem

This place is a hidden gem in Bakersfield amid industrial complex buildings. It does sit next to a branch of the Kern river…unfortunately it was dry. The campground is clean and well maintained. Sites are level dirt for your rig and a clean cement pad for your chairs etc. A few of the pull thru spaces are a bit close together especially if you have pull outs but the cement pads do not face each other. Full hookups at each site including a sewer line and cable tv with a modest list of channels. There are trees some sites are shaded others not so much. The bathrooms are by far the cleanest I’ve seen. They have a great laundry room as well. There is a pool, a pretty impressive sized rec room, there also is a camp store saw these at a distance we did not stay long enough to use these facilities. I would definitely stay here again.

    Amazing Time

First time to the Kern River. Loved it. We were there August 1-6. The River was a little low but it was perfect for us with our 5 year old son. We were able to float down the river in our inner tubes safely. We were told May to June the river is very high in this area. We also fished in the river. Our camp site was great. We stayed in site 81 in our class C RV. Corner site on a creek that ran through the campground. The creek was great to sit in to escape the heat and float down. Lots of kids and dog friendly. The WIFI was good to stream TV and ATT cell service was good too. The sites had power, water and cable TV hook up. There is a dump station in the campground. They clean and rake all camp sites after each use and they enforce the 10:00pm quiet time. It is a short walk/ride to Kern River Brewery. Or it is about a hour drive to Trail of 100 Giants Sequoia Trees. Can’t wait to stay here again.

    Bakersfield River Run RV Park

    Home Town RV Parlk

Bakersfield RV park just off Hwy 99. My home town, Born and raised, so I've stayed here a few times returning. Nice park adjacent to a great bike trail of 50+ miles. The river is not always running as in some of the pictures. Gravel pads concrete patios surrounded by grass. Daily weekly monthly rates, and have used all of them.

    Unexpected

We heard good things about this campground from family so we decided to give it a shot. It’s about an hour and 15 minutes from our home in Bakersfield. That road off of the 65 is pretty decent as we have a 32 foot fifth wheel. As usual some sites are better than others there are some creek side sites that are very large and if there’s water are very nice. They have tent only sites as well. On our first trip we stayed in a pull through site. There is not a whole lot of space between campsites in this loop but it’s doable. They also have a stocked pond on site. However if you want to keep any of the fish caught, you have to purchase them. There are trails to hike. FYI, there is no cell reception and no provided wifi. Personally I think that’s a good thing 😬.

    Shaded Haven RV Park

Worst campground I’ve ever stayed at!

5+ years Full time RVer, worst ever campground we have ever stayed at, stayed in many states, long-term short-term, stayed at this one for two months, although had a reservation for three. Sites are too tight, everything‘s grayish/dusty and dirty, you’re near a rail track, that blows its horn for minutes 24/7, that includes 2 AM, that includes 4 AM. Many of the neighbors you’ll see look like they’re on (mental) disability and don’t look healthy. Hot tub is smelly and yellow water too often although they state they clean it almost weekly. I god major depression staying here.

    Bakersfield River Run RV Park

Clean, Friendly with pool, hot tub, laundry, wifi, showers and full hookups

We stayed for one night, after dry camping in Yosemite for several days. It was nice to fresh hot showers, do laundry, recharge everything and get a good night's sleep. The place is for RVs, no tent sites, fire rings or tables, but well spaced level pads, with full hookups, a concrete patio for your own table and chairs, grass, flowers, trees and landscaping. I took a dip in the swimming pool, it was very refreshing. The hot tub jets massaged my neck and shoulders after driving for several days. The site has a recreation room and outdoor grill with picnic tables. The location is close to 99 but not too loud. Costco is nearby. There is a river and a park on the other side of the RV Park fence. Overall just what we were looking for.

Guide to Bear Valley Springs

RV parks near Bear Valley Springs, California provide convenient access to the Tehachapi Mountains at elevations ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 feet. The area experiences distinct seasonal changes with summer temperatures averaging 85°F and winter lows occasionally dropping below freezing. Many campgrounds remain open year-round but winter visitors should prepare for occasional snow at higher elevations.

What to do

Glider watching opportunities: Mountain Valley RV Park sits adjacent to a glider airport where visitors can observe air activities throughout the day. "Sites are right off runway for glider flying. We ended up extending stay from one night to four to watch air force cadet competition," notes one camper at Mountain Valley RV Park.

Cycling paths nearby: Several rv parks Bear Valley Springs offer access to extensive bike trails. Bakersfield River Run RV Park connects to a significant trail system. "Nice park adjacent to a great bike trail of 50+ miles. The river is not always running as in some of the pictures," shares a regular visitor at Bakersfield River Run RV Park.

Fresh fruit picking: Seasonal citrus harvesting adds a unique activity at select RV parks. "The oranges are absolutely fantastic and makes you wonder why you can't get the same quality in a store," mentions a repeat camper about Orange Grove RV Park's distinctive amenity.

What campers like

Clean shower facilities: Many campgrounds near Bear Valley Springs maintain high standards for bathrooms. "The showers were better than you'll find in most homes, lol & the pool was beautiful & spotless," reports a first-time RVer about their experience at Bakersfield River Run RV Park.

Spacious sites: Certain rv facilities near Bear Valley Springs accommodate larger vehicles comfortably. "Sites are level dirt for your rig and a clean cement pad for your chairs etc. A few of the pull thru spaces are a bit close together especially if you have pull outs but the cement pads do not face each other," explains a visitor describing Bakersfield River Run RV Park's layout.

Pool amenities: Several parks offer swimming facilities with controlled access. "We had a great time. Although it was really hot the pool was nice and refreshing and clean," notes a camper from Castaic Lake RV Park, which maintains a swimming pool approximately 35 miles south of Bear Valley Springs.

What you should know

Train noise considerations: Railroad proximity affects some campgrounds with varying impact on sleep quality. "You definitely could hear the trains in the evening and night; it didn't bother me as I use a white noise machine," mentions a visitor to Orange Grove RV Park about the ambient sound conditions.

Bathroom access limitations: Several facilities restrict nighttime bathroom access. "Bathrooms are locked between 10 pm and 7:30 am (not good for those of us with early mornings)," cautions a camper about Mountain Valley RV Park, a policy reported at multiple rv parks near Bear Valley Springs.

Differing hookup options: Not all parks offer identical services at each site. "There is a dump station not full hookups and WiFi is only available when the cafe is open. Great for a rest and recharge," explains a visitor about Mountain Valley RV Park's specific arrangements.

Tips for camping with families

Dog-friendly areas: Most RV parks around Bear Valley Springs accommodate pets with designated zones. "Dog area is a very small lawn with no fencing so no off leash running - especially bcuz there's a small plane airport next to the RV park with no fencing," advises a camper about site-specific pet considerations at Mountain Valley RV Park.

Playground availability: Limited recreational structures exist for younger visitors. "This is a simple and clean campground with paved roads that are good for kids to ride bikes. They separate the residents and the short term people on two different sides of the park, so that's nice. Not a lot of shade and could absolutely use a playground for kids of to play on," suggests a parent who stayed at Orange Grove RV Park.

Educational opportunities: Some locations offer unique learning experiences. "If you have time and they have a pilot and time it is a fantastic flight. It is surreal to get pulled into the air, release the tow, and only hear the wind as you fly over the mountains searching and finding updrafts," shares a camper about the potential for glider rides near Mountain Valley RV Park.

Tips from RVers

Connectivity concerns: Cell service and WiFi performance varies significantly between parks. "Starlink and Verizon service both work great here," reports a camper about Mountain Valley RV Park, providing specific carrier information.

Site selection strategy: Choosing specific site numbers impacts noise exposure. "Ask for 1-32 or 89-113 to have your best chance of avoiding the highway noise," recommends a visitor to Bakersfield River Run RV Park who carefully tracked the quieter locations.

Size restrictions apply: Larger RVs face navigation challenges at some parks. "For a 43 footer this place is TIGHT. If you have a big rig, prolly not the best idea. But if you have a 28 footer, this place is Six Stars!!!!" warns a camper about the constraints at Castaic Lake RV Park for vehicles exceeding certain dimensions.
