Watchman Campground in Zion National Park accommodates pets at designated tent and RV sites with proper restraint required at all times. Dogs must be leashed and never left unattended, with several campgrounds near Colorado City providing similar pet policies including South Campground, Zion Canyon Campground, and Zion River Resort. Pets are restricted from wilderness areas and most trails within Zion National Park, but can join their owners at developed areas and along Pa'rus Trail. Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park Campground maintains clean bathrooms and hot showers while welcoming four-legged companions, though pets must remain leashed and under control.

North Creek Dispersed Camping and Kolob Terrace Road Dispersed areas offer free primitive camping options for travelers with pets, requiring self-sufficient preparation as these locations lack facilities like drinking water, toilets or trash collection. Dispersed campsites sit approximately 40 minutes from Zion National Park's entrances, providing budget-friendly alternatives to established campgrounds. During summer months, early morning or evening walks prove essential as pavement temperatures can harm paw pads. Most campgrounds enforce standard pet policies including leash requirements (typically 6 feet maximum), waste cleanup responsibility, and quiet hour compliance to prevent excessive barking. Sand Hollow State Park's Westside Campground offers water access where dogs can cool off during hot weather while maintaining leash rules.

      Kaibab Paiute RV Park

      Extended our stay

Beautiful campground with surrounding mountains. About 20 minutes from Colorado City, AZ which has a grocery store. The views are spectacular. The showers, laundry area, and patio areas are well maintained. Staff were great at making recommendations and you can wash dishes or cook in the club house.

St. George RV Park & Campground

St. George RV Park & Campground, UT

Located right off the highway, this a great place to stay for one night or for longer periods. There seemed to be several full-timers living in the campground. You can hear the highway when you sleep, so try to request a site furthest from the road. The bathrooms were clean and the staff was welcoming and accommodating. There was not a dog park or any grassy areas that allowed pets which was a challenge.

      Grand Plateau RV Resort

      Grand Plateau RV Resort

Site P15 (back-in) by the dog park was perfect for our pups - easy access to the fenced area with agility features and beautiful red cliff views. The spacious site was level with full hookups. Super friendly and helpful staff made check-in and everything else effortless. Laundry room is great: very clean with large-capacity washers/dryers that handled big loads quickly. Amenities rock—spotless showers/restrooms, heated pool/hot tub, pickleball, game areas. Quiet spot east of Kanab, ideal base for Zion, Bryce, North Rim. It’s pricey even off-season ($65–$70 nightly), laundry adds up too, but weekly rates ($390) effectively give one day free on a 7-night stay for solid value. Worth it for the modern setup, pet perks, views, and service.

      Crazy Horse RV Resort

The Perfect 10-Day Stay at Crazy Horse RV Resort!

I recently stayed at Crazy Horse RV Resort in Kanab, UT for 10 days and had an absolute blast! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel right at home—they were welcoming, helpful, and always had a smile on their faces. The resort itself is loaded with amenities that made our stay so enjoyable. The pool was the perfect temperature—so refreshing after a long day of exploring the trails nearby. Our pets stayed free(a huge bonus!), and the dog park was fantastic. Having the dog wash station right there was such a lifesaver after dusty hikes—it made traveling with our pups stress-free. There’s never a dull moment around Crazy Horse. The resort is close to so many incredible attractions—like the Sand Caves, Belly of the Dragon, Coral Pink Sand Dunes, and of course Zion National Park. It was the perfect hub for adventure, but also a relaxing place to come back to at the end of the day. Between the friendly staff, the clean and well-maintained facilities, and the unbeatable location, this was easily one of the best RV resorts we’ve ever stayed at. We’re already planning our next trip back!

      Snow Canyon State Park Campground

      Disappointed

This is a wonderful campground. The sites are well designed and some are really special. The reason I gave it only three stars has to do with pets. Dogs are not allowed on any hiking trails. They are allowed, however, on the paved bicycle trail which felt dangerous for both dogs and bicyclists. My 17 year old cat is a well seasoned camper. He free ranges around where he feels comfortable and always knows where home lies. The Camp Ranger ordered my cat to be leashed. That was a first in four months of camping and I knew it would not go well. We were going to stay for one week but left after only one night. Disappointed.

St. George / Hurricane KOA Journey

      Red Cliffs Hiking

This KOA is located about ten minutes outside of St George and right off the I-15 freeway. It was all the amenities that your typical KOA has; dog park, hookups, cabins, and store. The best part of this KOA is its proximity to Red Cliffs National Conservation Area which is about a mile away. This National Conservation Area is surrounded by towering red cliffs that have miles of hiking trails through them. It's a great place to spend the day exploring.

The only downside is the traffic noise on the I-15 at night. But if you are in your RV or van you will hardly notice it. This is a good campground for any trip to Zion or the surrounding area.

      Cell Service: Good

    Guide to Colorado City

Dispersed camping options near Colorado City, Arizona provide economical alternatives for pet owners seeking outdoor accommodations. Located at elevations ranging from 4,000-5,000 feet, the region experiences dramatic temperature shifts between scorching summer days and cooler nights. Most free camping areas require visitors to be entirely self-sufficient, bringing all necessary water, waste disposal equipment, and camping supplies.

    What to do

**Sand dune exploration: Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park Campground offers direct access to unique terrain for outdoor recreation. "Great place to stay, was close enough to for a bit of a drive to both Bryce and Zion but wasn't crowded mid August. Right on the coral pink sand dunes and everyone had a lot of fun renting Off road vehicles to take for a spin," notes Erin T.

**River relaxation: North Creek Dispersed Camping sits beside a small waterway perfect for cooling off during summer. "Nice location right of the road, but tucked in under trees by a small river. Pretty views up the valley. Good level areas with fire pits. Those with 4x4s can chance a trip across the river for real solitude," shares James W.

**Trailhead proximity: Watchman Campground provides easy access to several Zion trails. "Great site, on dirt. Lots of trees around and gorgeous views. A few minutes walk from the shuttles, the visitor center and the town of Springdale," reports Julie F., making this location ideal for hikers with pets who want to alternate park explorations with pet-friendly activities.

    What campers like

**Affordable alternatives: North Creek Dispersed Camping offers free camping with basic setup. "Really easy, good roads, quiet and by creek. Here on a Saturday night and there are a lot of folks here, tons of tents. Got here mid afternoon and found a flat site by creek. Feeling pretty lucky!" explains Jenni I.

**Clean facilities: Kaibab Paiute RV Park maintains excellent bathrooms despite its remote location. "New campground with clean private showers and restrooms. And at $30 a night a real bargain. Pull through sites with full hookups and a friendly staff makes this place a winner," states William J.

**Convenient location: Zion Canyon Campground sits close to town amenities. "Walk right into Zion from this campground! Not only is it convenient, but most spots are shaded and you can also use the nearby hotel amenities (outdoor pool, vending, laundry (for a fee)). The showers/bathrooms are very clean and you are given shower coins per person/per day," shares Taylor C.

    What you should know

**Cell coverage: Many dispersed sites have limited connectivity. At North Creek Dispersed Camping, "We have T-mobile and had 5G service," reports Morgan L., but other campgrounds may have spotty coverage.

**Seasonal considerations: Summer temperatures can reach 100°F, making water access critical. "The summer nights by the beach camping out with your people and your dogs is one of my favorites. The beach is mostly clean, sometimes rude people leave behind garbage but the main culture their helps out to maintain a clean peaceful and fun environment!" notes Jodi M. about Westside Campground.

**Bathroom limitations: Dispersed camping areas lack facilities, creating sanitation concerns. "This place is fine if you're desperate- there's tons of spots! But the fields in and around the camp area are filled with human and animal poop...they really need to build some pit toilets or something out here because it is really gross!!" warns Katie W. about unimproved areas.

    Tips for camping with families

**Holiday activities: Some campgrounds organize seasonal events. At South Campground, "We experienced a first: It was Halloween and many of the kids camped around us dressed up in costumes and went trick or treating. Many campers put up festive lighting and one even set up a full size inflatable castle which was a big hit," describes Rod D.

**River cooling: During hot weather, seek camps with water access. "Great spot with great staff! All around respectful and facilities clean and up to date," mentions Travis C. about Westside Campground, where the reservoir provides swimming opportunities.

**Shade hunting: Trees provide essential relief from desert sun. When staying at North Creek Dispersed Camping, one visitor advises, "You def need a higher up car to get to where I went. I have a Honda HRV and took it really slow and didn't have any issues. I got to the location and kept going and found a shaded area at the bottom of a hill."

    Tips from RVers

**Utility hookups: Zion River Resort offers full services for larger vehicles. "Original plan was to camp inside the park but failed to secure a site. That led us to finding this Rv park. Very friendly staff, clean facilities, and mature trees! With temperatures in the it's all week, we appreciated the shade, the pool, and full hookups for AC," shares Larry E.

**Site selection: Choose pull-through spots when available for easier access. "Electric and water sites are very nice. Lots of long pull throughs, many over 100 ft. Close to level sites, good water pressure, solid electric, clean well maintained infrastructure," notes Gene P. about Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park.

**Road conditions: For pet-friendly camping near Colorado City, Arizona, check access roads after rain. "The road can be muddy and rutted after a rain, so take weather into account. That said, we got our 30 year old 30 foot motorhome in and out multiple times," advises Erik C. about dispersed camping areas.
