Best Campgrounds near Albertville, AL

Camping in the Albertville area of Alabama centers around Lake Guntersville, with several established campgrounds offering a range of accommodation types. Lake Guntersville State Park Campground serves as the primary developed camping destination, providing full hookup sites for RVs along with tent camping options and cabin rentals. Nearby alternatives include Honeycomb Campground in Grant and Boaz RV Park, which cater to visitors seeking varied camping experiences within 20 miles of Albertville. Most campgrounds in this region support both RV and tent camping, with several offering cabin accommodations for those preferring more amenities.

Access to camping areas remains available year-round at most established campgrounds near Albertville, though summer brings higher occupancy rates, particularly on weekends. Lake Guntersville State Park provides water and electric hookups along with shower facilities and reservable sites, while smaller facilities like Boaz RV Park offer more basic amenities with lower fees. Most developed campgrounds maintain paved access roads suitable for all vehicles, with many sites accommodating larger RVs. Reservations are recommended, especially during fishing tournaments and summer holidays when the lake attracts numerous visitors. As one camper noted, "This is a nice state park in a small town in north Alabama. The lake is really pretty and the campground has a nice view of it. It's a bit of a drive to get to town so try to get the essentials before setting up camp."

Lake access represents the defining feature of camping in the Albertville region, with fishing and water recreation opportunities driving campground popularity. Several campgrounds provide direct lake access with boat ramps and swimming areas, particularly at Lake Guntersville State Park. Campers frequently mention wildlife viewing opportunities, including abundant deer throughout the park areas. The region experienced significant tornado damage in 2011-2012 which removed many trees, resulting in more open, sunny campsites with less privacy between sites. Many reviewers note the lack of shade in summer months, particularly at waterfront locations. Campers seeking more privacy and shade might prefer the campgrounds located in more forested areas like Monte Sano State Park or Cathedral Caverns State Park, both within reasonable driving distance of Albertville.

Walls of Jericho - Trailhead Campsite

    Quite

Quite at night, but the primitive camping area is overgrown, and I have seen a lot of trash in the woods. Stayed one night just to hike the trail the next morning.

    Lake Guntersville State Park Campground

    Great place for kids

We went to Guntersville State Park campground for our first camping trip and really enjoyed it. We went on Labor Day weekend so it was pretty full. Even though nearly every campsite was booked, there was plenty of room for kids to roam, ride bikes, and play. I was really surprised how quiet it was despite the number of people there. No noise issues (other than my own kids). We spent alot of time at the playground and also a morning on the beach area. We’ll definitely be back one day.

    Wills Creek RV Park

    Convenient location

This was an overnight stay on our way to the Smokies. Easy to get to from I-59 in Fort Payne. They have some sites that are shaded, but the pull through sites are in an open area. Gravel roads and pads (thankfully, as everything around was standing in water from the recent downpour)

The facility is dated, but clean and an easy on and off on the way through.

    Nightly rate was $45

    WiFi worked

    Misfit Mountain

    Cute off grid cabin

We had a great experience here! It is such a cute cabin with everything you need including a luxurious outdoor shower and composting toilet. The trails on the property looked nice and well maintained but we unfortunately didn’t get a chance to try them. I would just recommend texting the host before showing up as it can be tricky to find and she has some additional info that’s useful.

    Cherokee Rock Village

    Rocks and Rigs

We attended North Alabama trails and recreation’s Rock and Rig event here. The park is beautiful with amazing views. We camped on the “brow” not in the rv parking area so I can’t speak to the camping spots or amenities for RVs, but the staff and facilities are nice.

    Monte Sano State Park Campground

    4.9 stars

Pretty spectacular all around. Sites are spaced well, wooded, and many have direct access to the trails. The trails! So many! We saw 4 waterfalls, including one inside a cave. A mountain bikers or hikers paradise here. It is in a beautiful area with nice homes and mountain views. The camp store is great and the two gates with code are a nice touch. There are cool little wooden play obstacles for the kids in the campground and a huge playground 1/2 mile away inside the park. The Japanese garden is very cool also. Wonderful overlooks to take in the surrounding area. Just a short drive down the mountain to great shops and restaurants. Just what a state park should be. Loved our site along the trail and ridge.

    Cherokee Rock Village

Safe place to spend the night

This park is an attraction to hikers and rock climbers according to the lady at the camp store. The views are absolutely spectacular! To register for the night you will need cash unless there's someone in the store. Best I can tell, there are more day visitors than campers. I stayed in the tent area, but there appeared to be quite a few places to park a small RV. I chose the tent area because it seemed a bit better for level parking. It was also closer to the restroom. Note there are lots of signs stating no parallel parking in the tent area, so I guess the way the space is laid out if you are towing a trailer you couldn't park there. The tent sites are scattered along half the loop through the park, but there are no specific sites with numbers. Instead there are lots of picnic tables and fire rings and it seems you just pick an open spot. Absent are any tent pads, so you just put out your tent under the trees. There is a restroom building that includes showers, but the showers are those single button things you have to keep pressing. The restroom was reasonably clean given there were a few groups of kids there during the day. Overall this is a pretty good place to camp for the night. The staff was friendly and the park well maintained. I slept in my truck quite comfortably and had a peaceful night. It's June as I visit, and the full rate is $19 to camp. They gave me a senior discount.
