Best Cabin Camping near Gulf Shores, AL

Cabin rental options near Gulf Shores include Gulf State Park Campground, which provides cabins with electricity and air conditioning. Facilities range from basic shelters to fully-equipped accommodations with private bathrooms and kitchen areas. "Gulf Shores Alabama Gulf State Park has spacious sites, some with foliage, some with Lake or canal views. Grills but no fire pits," notes one camper. Dauphin Island Campground and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park also offer cabin rentals as alternatives to traditional camping, with varying levels of amenities depending on location and price point.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Blakeley State Park features primitive cabins described as "basically open air cabins with two walls, a roof and two walls of screens" with wooden platforms for beds. Some sites require advance planning as a review mentioned, "These cabins are a bit of a drive out in the woods, so make sure your vehicle is up to it." Most cabins permit pets but policies vary by campground. Bella Terra of Gulf Shores provides upscale cabin accommodations for those seeking more comfort, with reviewers praising its "clean and beautiful" grounds.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. KOA cabins typically come with minimal cooking facilities, so campers should plan to bring their own cookware and utensils. Basic supplies can be purchased at camp stores, with Gulf State Park and several other locations offering on-site markets. Fire pits aren't universal at all cabin sites—Gulf State Park has grills instead of fire pits at standard sites, while other locations provide both. Storage space is typically limited, so efficient packing is recommended when planning extended cabin stays.

    Bella Terra of Gulf Shores

    You will not be disappointed!

We spent 3 nights at this resort in July while visiting our son and his family. This class A only resort is clean and beautiful. We had a lake view pad with full hook ups and seating area for $56.00 a night. You can upgrade and get a gazebo and/or fire pit as well. Beautiful zero entry infinity edge pool and gorgeous clubhouse with daily activities. 15-20 minutes from Gulf Shores AL and the beach! We will definitely be back!

    Blakeley State Park Campground

Very large park, hiking, camping, battlegrounds

Blakely State Park is a very large State Park, with different choices for camping. There are larger primitive tent sites, smaller tent sites with power/water hookups, RV sites, two primitive cabins and 2 newer cabins which are very nice. There's TONS of hiking, a battleground for history buffs, a playground, a boatdock, lots of hiking, horseback riding etc.

I stayed in one of the two Squirrels Nest, which are primitive cabins. Basically open air cabins. 2 walls, a roof and 2 walls of screens. There are two wooden platforms for beds. A twin and a queen, and barstools to sit inside and look out into the woods, over the hill in which they are nestled. There's a sink (but no water) and a cabinet, and outside a large deck with bench seating. Below is a fire pit and picnic table. There is a shared porta potty outside of the two cabins. These cabins are a bit of a drive out in the woods, so make sure your vehicle is up to it. It's very peaceful out there. My cabin was inhabited by mice at night, so I kept my food in airtight plastic paint bucket containers & my belongings covered by garbage bags on one of the platforms and had my air mattress inside a pop-up mosquito tent, so the mice did not bother me. I was after all in their house. I sprinkled peppermint oil around my gear & my bed platform to keep the mice away. Next time I will have my food in a large cooler so that the wildlife is not attracted.

There are hiking trails by these sites, as well as, steps down the hill, leading off into another trail.

i would stay there again. Great place to get away.

    Gulf State Park Campground

    Beaches and bikes

Gulf Shores Alabama Gulf State Park Current camping spot on the canal. Ours is a nice pull thru with electric and water. Almost 500 sites here from tent to big rig friendly. Spacious sites, some with foliage, some with Lake or canal views. Grills but no fire pits. Right now there's a shortage of usable bath houses because of hurricane damage repairs in progress. Good wifi, local TV, and cell service. Close to stores and dining. Free access to adjacent pier. Great coastal access. Free use of bikes. Lots of great paved and boardwalk trails. Gators, snakes, armadillos and birds reside here.

    Gulf State Park Campground

Campers with way too much stuff

If it didn’t have the Gulf weather and bugs and or for that matter, the campers, this would be a five star campground. I sit here writing this review at the pool. I opened my book to read and the lady next to me brought out her Bluetooth speaker to blast music. Last night, a family chowed down on a can of pringles in the pool. Trash everywhere at the fishing docks. My husband went to put our wash in the dryer last night and dryers were filled with abandoned clothing. People have bicycles with horns.

We did make the mistake of coming here during one of the busiest weeks of July, but that doesn’t mean that every campsite should be littered with crazy amounts of gear, despite it being so obviously oppressively hot and muggy that much of it seems unusable. I want to reiterate: the weather is vile but I still can’t imagine bringing fans to plug in OUTSIDE of my camper. The campers next to us have a large trailer, camper bus, a large truck and a golf cart. In one spot. That doesn’t include the bikes, the chairs, the tents, etc.

The actual campsites and facilities are nice. Individual campsites are spacious and level and come with a grill and picnic table. Some site locations are much better situated than others (I would never want to camp along Campground Road - it’s insanely busy with cars and bicycles). It’s great to have a large pool w backside, clean and fairly large laundry facilities, a camp store and an exceptional network of bike trails. There is also a very awesome nature center, several playgrounds, pickleball courts, a boat ramp, and free bicycle rentals! There is ten bathhouses and while only three bathroom and shower stalls each seemed insufficient to me there wasn’t anyone in the bathhouses any time I utilized them. They were super clean and in reasonable proximity to all of the sites in the loop.

The campground, which is massive (500 plus sites) consists of several loops, and is smack dab in the middle of the State Park. Campers get free parking at several beaches in the Park, which we utilized (beach was pretty quiet in the morning). I thought that was a great perk. We didn’t get to bike much between the heat and rain but the trail system looks amazing and there were plenty of staged opportunities for both free and paid bike rentals.

The campground is located right smack dab in between Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, which is ideal if you want to go play some miniature golf or grab a bite to eat.

I think coming off season is probably the best bet - we honestly didn’t even feel like we were in nature when we came and it was so darn humid I didn’t really want to nature anyway! I think the campground would benefit from allowing less vehicles at each spot - from my vantage point, I’m literally staring out at nine trucks for maybe three campers.

    Beach front

This beach front campground is beautiful, quiet, and relaxing. Under new ownership they seem friendly and helpful. Dog friendly park that is away from the major city hubs, nothing but the beach is walkable. Our site was level with a grill, fire pit, picnic table and a wooden deck.

    Gulf Shores RV Resort

    Gulf Shores, AL…..Brand new!!!!!

Love it here. We were escaping Nicole and after 9 hours on the road we were trying to find a place in Gulf Shores. We tried many campgrounds with no avail. Happened upon this one and the guy that answered was like a beacon in the night. He was very kind, gave us a spot that was a back in but since we were coming in in the dark at about 11:30 we asked for a pull in as we didn’t know the logistics and we hate pulling in at night. He gave us a pull through at the same price, had our paperwork in the box at the office, said if we needed any help to call him and gave us his cell number. The campground is beautiful. They have a small lake in the middle with fishing and lovely water features. Close to the beach, sites are huge, with fire pits, and charcoal grills and picnic tables. Pool is lovely, has a tennis court and horseshoe pit. They pick up your trash at your site. It’s all paved and sites have patios and paved. They have new trees planted and it’s pretty open but it’s new. The park is surrounded by trees and very quiet. Not a ton of rules…YET but sure it will change. AT&T worked fine and we have our own Wi-Fi. It’s close to shopping and restaurants. It was quite a find. We stayed the end of November, December and left January 9, 2023. We had to move to another site after a wk as we decided to stay longer. There are no bad sites. There are more amenities coming as the owners aren’t finished.

    Meaher State Park Campground

Very close sites, on/near the Bay.

I have done tent camping at this park a couple times. All of the sites are close together and the ants are ridiculous. I had read reviews about the ants prior so I came prepared. Each site has a picnic table & fire ring. There is a boat launch, which is popular, a pier and also 2 cabins that you can rent. This is a popular park for RV's. And of course there is a shower house & covered picnic tables.

I chose a specific site with water view which was enjoyable. The street lights throughout the park are very bright, so if you're light sensitive when you sleep, use a darker tent. All the sites have power & water hookups.

    Mystic Springs Recreation Area

    Remote Primitive and Wild

Pros: Covered tent sites (we tent camped) portapottys, free for up to a week, boat launch, spaced out sites (pretty private). Has picnic tables, fire pits, and grills. Cons: Sites flood, lots of gaters (if you have small pets this is sketchy), gets a little busy on the weekends with the boaters, it's reaallllly far from the next town but there's a gas station 15mins away. Get gas before you go back to camp. It's beautiful and clean. About 45mins to pcola

Guide to Gulf Shores

Cabin camping near Gulf Shores, Alabama offers options ranging from basic shelters to fully-equipped lodging within 10-15 miles of the coastline. Most cabin rentals are situated around freshwater lakes or forested areas rather than directly on beaches. Water temperatures in the area average 72°F annually, with summer highs reaching 87°F, making cabin stays comfortable year-round when compared to tent camping.

What to do

Fishing for alligator spotting: Gulf State Park Campground features multiple lakes where visitors can fish while watching for wildlife. "Keep your eyes peeled for wonderful birds and alligators!" notes Hannah C., who enjoyed exploring the park's aquatic habitats.

Historical exploration: Fort Pickens Campground at Gulf Islands National Seashore offers extensive historic structures to explore. "We were able to use our senior national park pass to get in for free and a discount on our site... We walked about 30 minutes to the old fort," reports Deborah C., who visited in February.

Biking the trails: The paved trail network at Gulf State Park provides miles of scenic routes. According to Jon K., "This is a great park with lots of amenities including Pickle Ball, Pool, Restaurant, Trails, etc." The trails connect cabin areas to beaches and other park features.

Bird watching: Dauphin Island Campground offers cabins near a bird sanctuary with hiking trails. "The Ferry is on one side of campground...Sea lab and Fort Gaines on the other. One of the best features about the island is you can ride your bicycle from one end of the island to the other," explains Benjamin K.

What campers like

Private cabins with water views: Many cabins at Gulf State Park feature waterfront settings. "I loved my stay at Gulf State Park. We stayed in one of the bungalows and it was so pretty and had everything we needed. The restaurant in the park has great food," shares Hannah C.

Fishing opportunities: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park offers lakeside cabin options with fishing access. "The lake is full of bream and each of my kids caught their first fish, definitely a memorable trip," says Ashley P., who visited with her family.

Clean facilities: Most cabin sites maintain well-kept bathhouses and facilities. "Bath houses were great! No campfires ☹️, but a great place!" explains Deborah P. about Dauphin Island Campground, noting the trade-offs between amenities and restrictions.

Family activities: Many parks schedule regular activities for families staying in cabins. "We had a lot of fun. The kids loved all of the Saturday activities. Campsites have a fire pit, so we made s'mores," reports Jaimee D. about her stay at Jellystone Park.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most cabin rentals require advance booking, especially during peak seasons. One visitor to Pirates Cove RrrrV Park noted, "I had to reschedule our planned reservations and was able to do so with great customer service."

Insect preparation: Gulf State Park cabins may have issues with local insects. "Beware of the ants!!!!!! The whole campground is infested with stinging ants. There are ant piles all over the campsites," warns Marilyn G.

Beach access varies: While most cabin rentals advertise beach access, actual distances differ. At Dauphin Island Campground, "We camped a week in the tent sites. Very clean. Great bathrooms. Great staff. 24 hour access to the beach, which is just a short stroll away," reports Donna H.

Wildlife encounters: Cabins near water may include wildlife neighbors. Paul G. at Gulf State Park mentions, "Went hiking along the trails and found 3 baby gators hanging out! Had a few good tent spots and lots of RV spots. Just watch out where you swim!"

Tips for camping with families

Pool access: Gulf Shores RV Resort offers cabin rentals with swimming facilities. "The pool was large and warm, my kids loved that. Fishing was fun even though they didn't catch a single fish," notes Mccoy, highlighting activities beyond beach trips.

Educational opportunities: Families staying in cabins can take advantage of ranger programs. "You can also join in for one of the rangers led educational walks to see wildlife around the park," suggests Asher K. about Gulf State Park.

Kid-friendly amenities: Jellystone Park focuses on family entertainment with their cabins. According to David C., they offer "activities, wagon rides, group s'mores campfire, fishing, crafts, super clean restrooms, well supplied camp store if you forgot something."

Beach proximity considerations: When booking cabins with kids, check actual beach walking distances. Jenny W. notes about Dauphin Island, "The actual campground is not great - it definitely could use some TLC. We had a beach back in spot, which is only a beach view in theory as the brush and forest was so thick that it blocked the view. However it was a short and pleasant walk to the beach."

Tips from RVers

Cabin access during weather events: Bella Terra of Gulf Shores provides cabins that remain accessible during coastal storms. "We were escaping Nicole and after 9 hours on the road we were trying to find a place in Gulf Shores... It was quite a find," shares Douglas T., highlighting the value of cabin rentals during weather events.

Off-peak benefits: Visiting cabin sites during slower seasons offers advantages. One reviewer mentioned, "This is a Motorhome only park with lots owned by individuals who rent their lots when they are away," explaining how Bella Terra's private cabins become available when owners are absent.

Space considerations: Most cabin sites provide adequate outdoor space. "Our site had nice separation from our neighbors with a big grassy area and a hedge between us," notes Nancy W. about Bella Terra, an important factor for those used to RV camping who prefer more privacy.
