Salt River Pass

This free dispersed campsite requires high clearance vehicles to navigate the heavily rutted access road that branches off Highway 89. The rough track descends with steep drop-offs on one side, making the journey challenging even for experienced drivers with suitable vehicles.

Campers who make the drive find themselves in an open meadow filled with wildflowers during summer months. The site sits in a single large field rather than defined individual spots, allowing flexibility in setup. Sheep frequently graze in the area and provide early morning wake-up calls with their vocalizations. Makena W. notes "Complete privacy in a giant field of flowers that make the air smell absolutely amazing."

Cell service proves unreliable, with AT&T showing no coverage according to recent visitors. The location offers complete isolation despite sitting close to the highway, with the rough access road deterring casual traffic. Some campers report finding the entrance blocked by other visitors' vehicles, limiting access to potential additional sites further along the track.

Campers wanting developed amenities and easier access might consider Allred Flat, which charges a small fee but provides maintained facilities.

Guests frequently mentioned this isolated wildflower field location for its stunning views and complete privacy. However, several reviews noted the heavily rutted access road requires high clearance vehicles and can be treacherous.

Fire

We were headed to camp there, and we're met be fire crews. The mountain side is burned. It may be a while until you can camp there

Do not go here

The suggestion that you need a high clearance vehicle is an understatement. The service road is incredibly rocky with one side a sheer drop. Went down with our campervan and barely made it down and back up in one piece. Looks like a nice spot but the other entrance was blocked so you’d have to get out via the same horrendous route in. Avoid.

Pretty

It’s a pretty spot, but we were unfortunately unable to stay here because a couple was already there and they asked us to leave because they wanted the spot to themselves - which we understood.

They also blocked the road that goes pass the site with their truck so we weren’t able to drive any further to see if there was anywhere else in the area, but upon looking at satellite view of the coordinates, the road seems to go on a bit further so if you have the chance to drive through there may be more potential sites.

The road is a bit rough and you definitely need a high clearance vehicle to drive through.

Tons of wildflowers and trees everywhere. A very private spot right off the highway.

We ended up staying at Allred Flat campground just a mile or so up there road. It’s $10 a night - $5 if you have a pass - and in my opinion was even prettier than this site.

Need high clearance

This site is incredible. It’s gorgeous however in my equinox I had to drive half on the edge of the road because the dirt road into the area where other tires go was so deep. There is no cell service at all ATT wise, my onstar WiFi wouldn’t even connect. It’s just one big open field.

This place is awesome

My boyfriend & I were the only 2 people probably in at least a mile radius. Complete privacy in a giant field of flowers that make the air smell absolutely amazing. There are sheep everywhere and they love to talk (my boyfriend was a little annoyed when they woke him up in the morning but I thought it was cool). Amazing views here. Overall just a fairytale spot. We stopped here between our drive from Zion to Teton. Would love to go back to this spot! Rough road but doable in my 2WD 1999 4 runner

Incredible Views and TOTAL Privacy

As I was driving over Salt River Pass I noticed a small dirt road on the side of the highway. Upon checking Google Maps Satellite View, I could see that the road ended in a campsite, so I decided to scout it. The road is HEAVILY rutted, and would be impassible for a regular car, but it was easy to pass in my Sprinter Van. The campsite is STUNNING, in a field of wildflowers, RIGHT near the highway, but totally isolated and private.
