    River Park

    Peaceful and rustic camping

This was a great trip to escape into the wilderness. Vault toilets were clean, centrally located and close to the hand pump well. Plenty of space at each of the sites. Some of the sites were right on the river while the ones uphill had horse fences. The road in was a little muddy but not bad enough to get stuck. My only complaint was the amount of trash in the fire pits. They have plenty of trash cans all around. Hopefully future campers start using them!

    Point Beach State Forest

    Little Gem!

This campground is situated across from Lake Michigan, with access to trails, sand-ridged beaches and a lighthouse (the lighthouse cannot be toured, but can be admired from the outside).  There is a nice lodge and camp store right on the lake, complete with a quaint restaurant where we got breakfast on the weekend as well as ice cream.

We stayed on site 13.  Not super secluded from neighboring sites, but it had nice tree cover.  A three minute walk to the beach.  The shower house and flush toilets were a bit of a hike from our campsite, but pit toilets were nearby.

We camped in late-May and there were no mosquitos and we didn't see any ticks (not to say there weren't any).  The area has some interesting natural features, including some wetland-prone areas with frogs, salamanders, etc.

All-in-all everyone in our party agreed that we would stay here again.  Happy camping!

    High Cliff State Park Campground

    Spacious and close to trails

This was my first time camping in a Wisconsin state park and I thought it was great! Our site backed up to a trail along the cliff which was awesome for a family that loves to hike. I felt for a state park most of the sites were spacious, ours was particularly because we had no site behind us. Shower house was clean. Will be back!

    High Cliff State Park Campground

Close to town but surrounded by nature.

This is a state run campground that provides plenty of hiking, biking and horse riding trails. There is also access to Lake Winnebago for boating and swimming. The camp sites are all either partially or fully shaded with a good amount of privacy for each site. Plenty or pit toilets are provided and there are also plumbed toilets and showers available on the campground.

This campground is perfect for a weekend getaway or for those families just starting out. It is close enough to town to be able to run in and get forgotten items. There are plenty of playground equipment for kids to run and climb on. If you are looking for a rustic get away this may not be exactly what you are looking for but it is a great spot to get out of the city for a day or two.

    High Cliff State Park Campground

So much to do for everyone

No matter what your skill level you can find a trail here from easy to challenging to hike or bike.  There is a beach, a marina, Lake Winnebago, horse trails, hiking, biking and pet beach and picnic area.  The park is very clean and pretty.  There is a playground, several vault toilet areas spread around and a shower house.   Some sites have electric and there is a dump station and water fill up.

Both AT &T and Verizon provided good service and the ability to stream.  Spaces are large and have many  trees for shade and privacy.

    High Cliff State Park Campground

    Comfortable camping, lots to do

Another spacious Wisconsin State Park site. #2 is level and listed as full shade but we had enough sun to recharge our Jackery everyday. It helps that it was blue skies each day! All sites were rented for the weekend and there were just a few no-shows. Even full there wasn’t enough noise to mention. We were near the entrance and enjoyed watching all the cars and campers coming and going. The shower house was fine, a very short walk for us. The camp host was friendly and quick to clean sites. There’s single stream recycling at the dump station and they take glass! Cell reception was good enough (Visible) There’s much to do in the park and in the area. We hiked, fished, golfed, shopped and ate well from what we find. I recommend the Appleton Farmers’ Market, Dick’s Family Foods in Sherwood Nieman’s Southside Market in Appleton.

    Bay Shore Park

Great on the go last minute sight

We visited Bay beach in Green Bay and then wanted to spend the night near Green Bay in our 35’ class A. Not making reservations in Wisconsin during the summer is risky but fell upon this beautiful 50% first come county campground that is well kept. Both 50 and 30 amp service with hiking, biking, gardens and more.

    High Cliff State Park Campground

    Great Views!

It was a bit chilly to enjoy the lake unfortunately, but the hiking is amazing. There are great rock outcrops for bouldering and exploring. All over just beautiful. Definitely one of my favorites in Wisconsin!!

    Historic Trails

Great place to explore with the fam. Hike the trails to see pieces of Wisconsin history throughout. Some trails on the Ridgeline offer vista views and moderate inclines that add to the adventure. There's plenty to do from fishing to hiking mountain biking lookout towers and parks .

Guide to Luxemburg

The northeastern Wisconsin area surrounding Luxemburg offers camping options within a 30-minute drive radius, with most campgrounds situated near water features. Located in Kewaunee County, this region experiences cold winters with temperatures dropping below freezing and warm summers averaging 75-80°F. Most campgrounds remain open from May through October when temperatures are suitable for outdoor recreation.

What to do

Water activities on Lake Michigan: At Point Beach State Forest campers can access clean beaches along Lake Michigan. "The beaches are very clean and great for walking at different points in the day," notes Terry L., who recommends bringing your own drinking water as "the drinking water is not good."

Hiking on the Niagara Escarpment: High Cliff State Park Campground offers trails along the geological formation with moderate elevation changes. "Part of the Niagara escarpment there are plenty of cliffs and fun views along the trails," explains Racheal M., who finds the hiking opportunities to be the park's best feature.

Kayaking and fishing: River Park provides water access for small watercraft. "We were able to kayak and fish along the river within view of our campsite," shares David K., who appreciates that "some of the sites themselves are elegantly perched above the riverbank and give you a great view overlooking the mini rapids."

Live music experiences: Smaller campgrounds occasionally host musical performances during summer months. As David K. describes Green's Green Acres Campground, "While it may not look like much from the road in the approach, this camp is largely centered around music. A local staple, many regular and occasionally irregular music festivals are held here."

What campers like

Secluded wooded sites: Many campers appreciate the privacy offered at certain campgrounds near Luxemburg. At Rustic Timbers Door County Camping, Amber C. was "surprised that each site is pretty wooded making you feel like you don't have neighbors," adding that "the surrounding area is just expansive farmlands which is beautiful to look at when walking the dog in the morning."

Clean facilities: Campground cleanliness ranks high among visitor priorities. Linda N. notes about Rustic Timbers: "The toilets and showers were just spotless and so clean. That was honestly such a pleasant and welcomed surprise."

Quiet atmosphere: Bay Shore Park offers peaceful camping despite being a popular destination. "Everything was very clean and even with the campground full it was nice and quiet," reports Celeste D., though she cautions that "rain does cause many of the spots to flood."

Riverside camping: Sites along waterways provide both scenery and recreation. Cole M. describes River Park: "The location is beautiful. Each campsite seems to be separated pretty far apart. I couldn't see anyone else from my site (#2)." However, he warns that larger vehicles may have difficulty accessing sites.

What you should know

No dedicated equestrian facilities: There are no specific horse campgrounds near Luxemburg, Wisconsin. Travelers requiring horse-friendly accommodations should explore alternatives further away. The campground data confirms most locations explicitly indicate "NO horse-corral" in their amenities listings.

Seasonal operation: Most campgrounds close during winter months. Point Beach State Forest notes a planned maintenance closure: "Campground will be closed until May 24, 2024 for maintenance on the waterlines," according to Laura M.

Reservation requirements: Popular sites fill quickly, especially during summer weekends. Laura M. observed at Point Beach: "Huge campground, and I guess we were lucky to snag a site mid week in August, as there were only two sites left when we arrived in the early afternoon."

Site flooding concerns: Bay Shore County Park can experience water issues during rainy periods. Nikki & Mike noted: "The ground was a sandy-dirt, which wasn't too bad at first, but after an overnight rain it was a muddy mess."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds feature play areas for children. At Rustic Timbers, Linda N. recommends their setup: "There is also a nice little convenience store and a bar/restaurant with a patio that overlooks the play area. It's a great setup for parents who feel comfortable letting their kids play at a distance."

Beach day preparations: When visiting lakefront campgrounds, bring appropriate supplies for changing weather conditions. Kristine M. says about Bay Shore Park: "This is a great spot for kids..although there isnt swimming there are 2 playgrounds and lots of space to play frisbee or run around."

Holiday activities: Some campgrounds host seasonal events that appeal to families. Debra M. experienced "Christmas in July" at Rustic Timbers: "Many campers had decorated. There were hayrides to view the decorations," making it a "great place for family reunions."

Nature exploration opportunities: Several campgrounds feature educational natural elements. Jennifer S. describes Bay Shore Park as having "a lot to do for kids a great play area, swimming, fishing, boating etc. There are hiking trails but not a lot."

Tips from RVers

Hookup placement challenges: At some sites, utility connections may require strategic parking. Nikki & Mike found at Bay Shore Park: "The electric and water hookups were on opposite sides of the site, and we had to keep adjusting the travel trailer to get both to actually hook up."

Size restrictions: Larger RVs face access limitations at certain campgrounds. River Park has constraints according to Cole M.: "I would not recommend this campground for anyone with a larger camper. I have a 38' long, 12'+ tall bumper pull and was scraping the roof on trees and struggled to get backed into the site."

Dump station congestion: Plan departure timing to avoid delays at sanitation facilities. Laura M. advises Point Beach visitors: "The dump station gets really backed up at the end of the weekend, so heads up."

Site selection for privacy: When booking, research specific site characteristics. Jeff G. found at Rustic Timbers: "The space we had is large, it would fit any RV," while Linda N. recommends: "We were fortunate to have a more wooded spot within the circle section of the campground but it was not as wooded/secluded as other camping experiences we've had."
