Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Loon Lake, WA

Shore Acres Resort welcomes pets at its lakeside cabins and RV sites on Loon Lake, with a seasonal operation from April 15 to October 15. Deer Lake Resort, Jump Off Joe Lake Resort, and Thousand Trails Little Diamond also accommodate pets in various lodging options including tent sites, RV spots, and cabins. Most campgrounds require pets to be leashed at all times, though several properties feature designated off-leash areas where dogs can exercise freely. Liberty Lake RV Campground provides an exceptional dog park that receives consistent praise from visitors. Dragoon Creek Campground offers a free camping option for pet owners, though pets must remain leashed throughout the stay. Camp hosts at Dragoon Creek make regular rounds to ensure pet policies are followed. The sites at Shore Acres Resort are particularly well-suited for families with pets, offering direct water access.

Riverside State Park's Bowl and Pitcher Campground maintains pet-friendly sites year-round with hiking trails suitable for leashed dogs. Several lakeside campgrounds provide beach access where pets can swim, including a designated pet swimming area at Riley Creek Campground. Campers report that while most sites have adequate space for pets on leads, some RV parks have limited grassy areas, making it challenging to keep RVs clean when traveling with dogs. Hog Lake Campground offers more remote pet-friendly camping with hiking opportunities and fewer crowds. During summer months, early morning or evening walks are recommended to avoid hot ground surfaces that can injure paw pads. Most campgrounds enforce quiet hours that apply to barking dogs, and excessive noise may result in being asked to leave. Pet waste stations are available at the larger RV resorts, while primitive campgrounds require owners to pack out all pet waste.

    North Spokane RV Campground

    Well maintained and manicured

Very clean with all the trim :) space between units, a dog park and playground, and nearby to restaurants while being just far enough on the edge of town to feel as such

    River Walk RV Park

Parking lot near river and bike trail

It is hard to find many positives about this place. It has nothing to do with the people, but only about the "campground". It is a parking lot. No grass. Very tight. Lots of seasonal folks. There is a dog park. It Is right on the river. It is right on the bike trail. It is close to town. Beyond that. There is nothing that I deem attractive or desirable about this place. So for me personally, we passed. Please check out the photos and judge for yourself.

    Shore Acres Resort

Sweet spot for cabins & RVs

This campground has been around for awhile, but is under new ownership. It’s a really unique spot right on the shores of Loon Lake in Washington State. It’s a bit remote for one night, but if you’re planning a family reunion over a long weekend or something, this would be a great spot.

They’ve got a variety of accommodations — RV spots for those that use them, plus more permanent structures like “vintage cabins and retro apartments” (this sounds a little suspicious, but I swear, they’re good enough as long as you bear in mind that this is a campground. They even have a cafe and a little store so you only have to rough it solo as much as you want to.

They have a little marina with boat slips if you have your own, or you can rent from them and take advantage of everything the lake has to offer. Due to the remote location compared to other lakes closer to the Washington State metro areas, there aren’t a ton of people on the water here at any time of year, even during holidays.

I’m not sure how tent camping would work here, I’m sure they would find a way to accommodate it if you wanted to try, but if I was in a group sans RV I’d probably splurge on a cabin and call it a day.

Peaceful Pines RV Park & Campground

    Week Stay

I’ve never been so harassed before by a campground for having a pet. Definitely not pet friendly. There is literally one tree they make you stay at and you can’t walk the campground with your dog.

    Liberty Lake RV Campground

Looks like a parking lot with RVs

This is a newer RV park in Liberty Lake. They have only been open 2 years. Liberty Lake is between Spokane, WA and Coeur d’Alene ID. There are about 130 spaces or so, with concrete pads and paved streets. There is grass between sites, but they are much too close to be comfortable, and there is no shade! And, the rules!!! Lots more rules than most other camping areas.’ It also appears many of the residents are semi-permanent. They have free cable snd wifi, a dog park, playground, swimming pool, laundry, and dump station. The sites are 30/50 amp, most are pull through but the outer ring is back in. They also have propane. They are on the pricy side: an outside loop 50 ft. Site is $74/night. Good Sam gets you a 10% discount. It is easy access to I-90 both East and west.

    Coeur d'Alene RV Resort

    Nice Public Bldg

We stayed the night in January and had a late check-in. Paid $69 and had access to full hookups. If you are not there before 5 pm they will not share the code for the bathrooms, etc so beware! Neighbors are told not to give out the code so we had quite a time trying to get in! The public building has bathrooms, laundry, pool, small store and a nice lounge. Lots are quite close together but it is neatly laid out with a few dog parks.

    Liberty Lake RV Campground

    City Slicker Camping

All in all our trip was great. The campground is very clean and well maintained. All of the spots had big pads that were very easy to maneuver around. Very dog friendly park with a fenced off off lease dog park that was easy to access. The swimming pool was fantastic as well. If you are looking for a true outdoors in the woods camping spot this is not the place for you. You are maybe half mile from I-90 and road noise can be heard all hours. You are also in the middle of the town Liberty Lake. Minutes from Safeway, McDonalds and Starbucks. If that is your cup of tea this is the place for you.

    Liberty Lake Regional Park

    Quaint & Enjoyable!

Tucked back behind a neighborhood of fairly luxurious homes and sitting near the lake, these sites offer a nice spot to catch a breath while traveling. We stayed at tent site 10 and it has been perfect. $27/night for tent and $38/night for RVs. Pet friendly, great host, facilities, and plenty of space.

    Beautiful and free

Stayed here with my dog, pet friendly but the animals must be on a leash. Camp hosts are very attentive and make multiple rounds which is nice. Follow all posted rules and you’ll have a blast. Pack in and pack out.

Guide to Loon Lake

Pet-friendly camping near Loon Lake offers a variety of options for campers with dogs. Located in eastern Washington about 35 miles north of Spokane, Loon Lake sits at an elevation of approximately 2,400 feet, surrounded by pine forests and rolling hills. Several campgrounds in the area implement quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., which also applies to barking dogs.

What to do

Swimming with dogs: At Lake Spokane Campground, dogs can join families at the designated swimming area. "The swim area doesn't appear to be toddler friendly as it isn't a gradual incline into the water," notes reviewer Nanette C., who adds there's "a single ramp for access" that can benefit pets and people alike.

Hiking nearby trails: Many dog-friendly campgrounds near Loon Lake connect to trail systems. Pend Oreille County Park offers "over 7 miles worth of trails" according to camp host Theresanne V., making it ideal for exercising your dog during cooler morning hours.

Fishing with canine companions: Several lakes allow pets to join during fishing trips. One camper at Deer Lake Resort mentions "fishing, camping, kayaking and volleyball" options available for visitors with pets, making it a versatile option for active dogs and owners.

What campers like

Private sites: At Dragoon Creek Campground, "the sites are spacious and well removed from neighboring sites," according to Henry H., who notes that "not all sites can accommodate large tents" but most provide adequate room for dogs to rest on leash.

Clean facilities: Several dog-friendly campgrounds maintain high cleanliness standards despite pet traffic. "Bathrooms were immaculate, and the sites are spacious," reports Kirsten T., highlighting what makes Dragoon Creek appealing for pet owners concerned about sanitation.

Seasonal water access: Campers appreciate lakefront campgrounds that allow dogs water access. The dog-friendly Silver Beach Resort offers "nice privacy" with sites that aren't "too far from the restroom or the lake," according to Lanae, making it convenient for quick dog walks and water breaks.

What you should know

Wasp concerns: Multiple campgrounds report seasonal wasp issues that can affect pets. At Dragoon Creek Campground, one reviewer noted "the number of wasps throughout the grounds" is "the only downside," suggesting "wasp traps would be a nice investment" for pet owners concerned about curious dogs disturbing nests.

Gate hours: Many campgrounds restrict entry after certain hours. "The gates close at 10pm so you don't have to worry about people driving in at all hours of the night," explains Serena G. about Dragoon Creek Campground, which helps maintain a calm environment for nervous dogs.

Limited recreation at some sites: While beautiful, some dog-friendly campgrounds have fewer activity options. Kirsten T. explains that besides creek access, "there's no recreation" at some locations, noting they're "good for rest, not recreation," which might matter for active dogs needing exercise.

Tips for camping with families

Dog-friendly cabins: Thousand Trails Little Diamond offers cabins that accommodate families with pets. "This is a wonderful spot to camp. We love the private campsites," writes Laurie T., adding that "the staff are so helpful here" for families traveling with both kids and pets.

Look for dual swimming areas: Some campgrounds separate human and pet swimming zones. Lake Spokane Campground features "a beautiful swimming area and boat launch," according to Kris S., where families can alternate between pet swimming areas and human swimming sections.

Spacious group sites: For families camping with multiple pets, seek larger group sites. At Jump Off Joe Lake Resort, one reviewer describes "swimming with floating dock, and playground area" alongside camping options for "cabins, tents or RV," providing versatility for different family setups with pets.

Tips from RVers

RV waste management: For longer stays with pets, proper waste management becomes essential. At Deer Park RV Resort, "put your trash out and they come by and pick it up in the morning," explains Ralph M., which helps maintain clean sites when traveling with pets that generate additional waste.

Check site spacing: RV sites with adequate spacing prevent pet conflicts. Patrick J. describes how Deer Park RV Resort features a "circle the wagons layout" where "4 RV spots are placed around a common grass area," noting this "would be nice for a group" with pets but potentially "weird for strangers" whose dogs might interact.

Consider seasonal operations: Many pet-friendly RV parks operate seasonally. Zanna H. notes that higher-end parks like Deer Park RV Resort have staff that "came running to help" when needed, an important consideration for older travelers with pets who might need assistance.
