CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Syracuse, Utah provides several developed RV parks for travelers. Riverside RV Resort features 92 RV sites with full hookups including 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections on paved sites with small grass areas. Valley View RV Resort in nearby Layton offers 131 sites with similar hookup options, plus amenities including a swimming pool and pickleball courts. Century RV Park in Ogden provides pull-through sites with 50-amp service, though spaces are more compact. Many parks in the region accommodate large motorhomes, with Aspen Grove RV Park in Tremonton specifically designed for big rigs. "The sites, streets, and pads are all in excellent condition. Everything looks new," according to one camper's review of Riverside RV Resort.

Most RV parks in the Syracuse area remain open year-round, though seasonal parks like Lagoon RV Park & Campground in Farmington operate from May through October. Several parks feature security-controlled access, with Valley View and Riverside both offering gated entry. Dump stations are available at most facilities, particularly useful for overnight guests not requiring full hookups. Highway noise can be significant at parks near Interstate 15, with one visitor noting Riverside experiences "constant traffic noise 24/7" plus sounds from nearby railroad tracks and Hill Air Force Base. Pet-friendly policies are standard throughout the area, with designated dog areas at several parks including Riverside's river-adjacent walking path. Laundry facilities tend to be limited relative to park size, with one review mentioning Valley View has insufficient machines for its capacity.

Big beautiful dog run area with a waterfall. This would be a great long term or a it’s a very easy on off expressway stop. High recommend

Dry Hollow Campground — Echo State Park

    Right by the lake

We are at a spot that is on a cement loop (#1) which was unlevel and it is not next to the lake but closer to the road (which is not too busy) but a view of the lake. You get a nice covered pavilion with a steel picnic table and fire ring with grate for grilling. The camp host was very sweet. Most of the sites are pull through and accommodates big rigs very well. The park managers keep it clean.

    Golden Spike RV Park

Great RV Spot Close to the Interstate

This an wonderful medium sized RV campground that is totally locally owned so you know your stay will go towards benefiting local families!  That and given its proximity to the Interstate make it the closest and easiest RV campground to get to near Brigham City/Perry.  It is a perfect stopping point if you're looking at having all the comforts of home before heading into the mountains or into the towns nearby.  Amenities include a full laundry and bathroom in addition to cable TV and Wi-Fi.  They owners are on the property year round and is a very safe place to stay.  There are 38 sites that have 30 and 50 amp hookup options in addition to water.  Definitely visit this RV campground over the nearby KOA as it supports local businesses!!!

If you want to spend time out in nature there is the nearby Bird Refuge, and Great Salt Lake.  To the north and northwest of here there lies the amazing Devils Playground and the namesake of the campground which is the Golden Spike National Historic Site in which the rail lines from the east and west met.  To the east there are numerous canyons to choose from in case the days are too sweltering hot to stay in the valleys

    Tanners Flat

Good location for exploring Wasatch Mountains and Salt Lake City

You really need to know this: No dogs are allowed because this campground is in the Salt Lake City watershed.

And this: As inviting as the water running through the campground may look, you are not allowed to swim, wade or wash in it.

One more thing: Gate closes at 10 pm although that didn't stop some partiers at the next site in from us. They partied and left around 11 or so. There was no payment tag on the post. The exit is open but has tire shredders if you enter over them.

A pleasant surprise at a Forest Service campground: 10 lbs of ice for $2! (There was also the usual bundle of firewood for $6.)

An unpleasant surprise: Old, dirty bathrooms. I've seen cleaner vault toilets elsewhere than these flush toilets.

There is no water for now (July 2018) in bathroom sinks or at spigots. The host said something about a pipe issue and water needing to be tested. That covers the amenities other than dumpsters.

What about the sites? We arrived on a Sunday morning when the host was putting up signs indictating which sites were reserved. We had 3 possible sites among 1 through 19 and grabbed #9, a pull through site with a buffer between the road in the parking/small RV area.

Sites in the other area (higher numbers) were becoming available, but that area's host said many of the sites were only appropriate for tents.

Our site #9: There are a few steps down to the picnic table, fire ring and grill plus a separate area to the left for a tent. See photos.

    General site info:

    • Some sites have a concrete pad for the picnic table, etc.

    • Many sites have an area for the tent that is away from the picnic table and concealed from the road.

Dixie Creek Campground — East Canyon State Park

A good example of how government campsites should be done

Overall, the facility is neat and clean for a campground. My visit was at the end of the 4th weekend, so some messes were expected. My campsite was in good shape upon setting up my 30ft trailer. All sites are back-in and mostly flat asphalt. A little rig leveling might be needed. The outside of the loop at Dixie C.G. is electric and water only. The inside of the loop has full hook-ups.

All sites have long, sturdy metal tables and a metal cover over a concrete pad. A fire pit was adjacent. Even with fire restrictions almost everywhere else in Utah, wood fires were permitted in the provided pit. Common area toilets are well maintained, containing flush toilets and running water. Most service buildings also contain free showers.

A one-star deduction is due to the effects of climate change, which is out of the Park's control to an extent. That said, my beef is with maintenance of the beach - a nice beach by the way. It's obvious where the historical water level use to be. Wish I could have seen the reservoir full because it may never happen again. But I digress. I think the park should rake or scrape the beach surface to remove offensive weeds and people's discards. That takes workers, budget and equipment. My guess is our State representatives lack interest to fund state parks for such mediation measures. It would greatly enhance the visual appeal and safety for families at the water's edge.

Guide to Syracuse

Syracuse, Utah camping options extend beyond traditional RV parks, with diverse outdoor accommodations within 30 minutes of the city. Located at approximately 4,300 feet elevation along the eastern shore of the Great Salt Lake, Syracuse experiences four distinct seasons with hot, dry summers and cold winters. Noise levels vary significantly between campgrounds, with several sites reporting sounds from nearby transportation corridors.

What to do

River recreation access: Riverside RV Resort features a walking trail along the Weber River that connects to recreational opportunities. "There is a trailhead right down the road that is along the Weber River. Mountain bike or hike, you with have a good time," notes Patrick J. in his review of Riverside RV Resort.

Fishing opportunities: Several RV parks offer fishing access for guests wanting to catch local species. At Echo Island RV Resort, "two small rivers with shade" provide fishing spots, and the campground has "a small pond for kids to fish in," according to reviews.

Amusement park access: Lagoon RV Park & Campground offers direct walking path access to the adjacent amusement park. "There is a walking path to the amusement park and another just back around the park," according to Cortney M. The park closes at 10pm with "an exit only from the park to the campground."

What campers like

Mountain views: Several RV parks feature views of the surrounding mountains. At Park City RV Resort, campers enjoy "a lovely view" from the pool/hot tub area. One camper noted the resort has "a mountain backdrop" providing "lovely sunrises and sunsets."

Gated security features: Safety measures are appreciated by many campers at Syracuse area RV parks. Claire L. mentions that at Riverside RV Resort, "Gated entry is a plus for me, and the staff is so kind and welcoming." Other properties feature similar security measures.

Year-round availability: Most parks in the area remain open during winter months. Aspen Grove RV Park in Tremonton operates year-round with "large sites" and "efficient and friendly check-in procedures." Their all-season operations include "immaculate" facilities even during colder months.

What you should know

Noise considerations: Several Syracuse area campgrounds experience significant noise from transportation. According to one camper, some resorts have "constant traffic noise 24/7" plus "trains going by on the track" and aircraft noise from Hill Air Force Base. At Golden Spike RV Park, campers should expect normal highway sounds given its proximity to major roads.

Fire restrictions: Fire policies vary significantly between campgrounds. Golden Spike RV Park "don't allow any sort of fire (no charcoal or wood)" according to Becca F., while other parks permit controlled fires in designated areas.

Spacing between sites: Some parks feature generous spacing while others place RVs in close proximity. Park City RV Resort sites can be "very, very close. So close that our neighbor's slide out prevented us from really using the picnic table," according to one review.

Tips for camping with families

Pet policies: Most parks accommodate pets but have varying rules. At Echo Island RV Resort, families appreciate that it's "a pet-friendly place to stay" with dog parks at several facilities. Golden Spike RV Park allows pets but some reviewers note they "don't enforce a dog on leash policy."

Pool availability: Swimming amenities are seasonal but popular with families. One Echo Island RV Resort visitor mentioned "two swimming pools and two hot tubs" among the amenities, adding that they have "very clean and modern facilities."

Wildlife encounters: Some campgrounds feature local wildlife viewing opportunities. At Lagoon RV Park & Campground, campers report being "greeted by 2 peacocks in the morning" and "visited by raccoons" at night, requiring food storage precautions.

Tips from RVers

Connectivity options: Internet reliability varies between rv parks in Syracuse, Utah area. At Valley View RV Resort, Wi-Fi is generally reliable, while Golden Spike RV Park has inconsistent service, with one long-term camper reporting "the internet is 50/50 if you'll have any after 5pm."

Laundry facilities: Laundry options may be limited at some parks. Valley View RV Resort has laundry machines that are "limited given the size of the park" according to one reviewer, who noted "I'd stay again but perhaps do my laundry somewhere else on the way in."

Seasonal considerations: Although many parks remain open year-round, amenities may be reduced in winter. At Park City RV Resort, "the bottom level by the creek, with mostly partial hookups" closes during winter months, and pool facilities typically shut down in early fall.
