North Ogden camping options lie at the base of the Wasatch Range, with elevations ranging from 4,300 to 8,100 feet across nearby campgrounds. The area experiences distinct seasons with hot, dry summers reaching 95°F and winter temperatures regularly dropping below freezing. Spring runoff typically peaks in late May, affecting creek levels at several primitive camping locations throughout the canyon.
What to do
Waterfall hiking: 30-minute trek from North Fork County Park provides memorable outdoor experiences. "Had a great stay at North Fork. Camped in the canyon near the trailheaad for the waterfall hike. We stayed at campsite 6 which was great, but they were all really nice," shares Rich J. The trail gains 400 feet of elevation over 0.8 miles.
Mountain biking trails: Beginner to advanced routes connect directly from campsites. "Excellent mountain bike trails also. Can't wait to go back and ride more of them," notes Rich J. about North Fork. Trails range from 1-mile loops to 12+ mile technical routes.
Fishing access: Multiple creek spots within South Fork Campground offer trout fishing opportunities. "We've been to South Fork 3 times and plan to go back many more times. There are single and double sites. The grounds are well maintained and it's right along the rivers edge which is nice and cool in the summer," explains Alicia G.
What campers like
Privacy between sites: Many campers appreciate the spacing at local campgrounds. "North Fork Campground has been a friends and family favorite for many years. There's a tiny-creek front, meadow, shaded and unshaded, and a specific area for if you bring horses. You choose what you want," explains Morgan L.
Accommodations for large groups: Anderson Cove provides spaces for family reunions and gatherings. "This is a great place for a family reunion. We enjoyed the camp site and the short walk to the lake. Facilities were clean and staff was great," reports David H.
Lakeside camping options: Sites near water provide cooling effects during hot months. "We love state parks and decided to try Hyrum State Park for a couple of nights. It's right on a small lake with a boat ramp and a small beach. The campground is small… about 8 or 9 sites with w/e and about a dozen sites with dry camping. All the sites are paved and level. Grassy and shady on most sites," notes Brenda L.
What you should know
Yurt camping North Ogden, Utah: Seasonal availability varies based on weather conditions. Permanent yurts at North Fork County Park require advance booking, with peak season (June-August) reservations filling 3-6 months ahead.
Bug situation: Prepare for mosquitoes in summer months, particularly near water. "The campgrounds were very open with not many trees but a great view of the lake. We saw fox that came right up to our tent and lots of bison close by," reports Whitney K. about White Rock Bay Campground.
Gate closures affect late arrivals: Some campgrounds restrict after-hours access. "The only thing that was annoying is that they lock the front gate at 10PM so if you are out after that time, you have to park your car on the street and walk to your campsite," notes Sandra W. about Hyrum State Park.
Reservation windows: First-come sites fill quickly on summer weekends. "This campground gets pretty primitive in that there is no drinking water available and only vault toilets available with picnic tables and a fire ring at each campsite," explains Alan B.
Tips for camping with families
Playground access: On-site facilities provide entertainment for children. "We had a delightful stay over Memorial Day weekend. Our kids had a blast swimming, playing at the playground and then spending time in the arcade," explains Kristan J. about Brigham City-Perry South KOA.
Creek exploration: Shallow water play areas offer natural entertainment. "We've camped all over in North Fork sites! Our family has our anual family reunion in Mustang Flats every summer. Clean bathrooms throughout, hike to the waterfall or ride the mountain bike trail!" shares Fale L.
Yurt rental options: Alternative to tent camping provides comfort for families with young children. These structured canvas accommodations at North Ogden yurt camping locations sleep 4-8 people depending on configuration and include raised wooden platforms.
Tips from RVers
Full hookup locations: Multiple options across various price points. "We stayed for Memorial Day weekend in the cottonwood campground. This campground is right next to the I-15, and a set of train tracks that seem to see daily use. I loved that the sites were spacious, the grounds were clean and there were some great amenities," shares Rara B. about Willard Bay State Park.
RV site selection: Specific sites offer better views and amenities. "The sites are tightly packed. The hook ups (especially sewer) are awkwardly to the far rear of the sites. All black top and gravel, which really gets warm on the hot July days. There is a fenced in dog relief area," notes Chris L. about Hill AFB FamCamp.
Dump station locations: Plan ahead as not all campgrounds provide this service. "Great campground. The host was very nice. It gets packed during the weekends so plan ahead! Right along side the river too," advises Wyatt S. about South Fork.
