North Fork County Park offers additional equestrian camping opportunities beyond its dedicated horse-friendly sites. The park spans several camping loops with access to multiple trail systems connected to the broader Wasatch mountain network. Located approximately 10 miles east of North Ogden at an elevation of 6,000 feet, this area provides cooler summer temperatures than the valley below, typically 10-15 degrees lower during peak heat.
What to do
Hike to hidden waterfalls: North Fork Park features accessible waterfall hikes directly from the campground. "Had a great stay at North Fork. Camped in the canyon near the trailheaad for the waterfall hike. We stayed at campsite 6 which was great, but they were all really nice," notes Rich J. at North Fork County Park.
Mountain biking: The area offers extensive mountain biking trails for various skill levels. "Excellent mountain bike trails also. Can't wait to go back and ride more of them," shares Rich J. The trails connect to higher elevation routes for more challenging rides.
Wildlife viewing: Antelope Island State Park provides opportunities to observe native wildlife. "We saw fox that came right up to our tent and lots of bison close by. Quiet place," reports Whitney K. from White Rock Bay Campground.
What campers like
Spacious, private campsites: Campers appreciate the room to spread out. "Enough trees to keep your site private, able to fit a 30' trailer in over 75% of their spots, and holy cow the number of spots they have, this place is the size of 4 good sized camp grounds combined," describes Jared at North Fork County Park.
Creek access: Many sites offer direct access to water features. "We've camped all over in North Fork sites! Our family has our annual family reunion in Mustang Flats every summer, CW8 & CW9 are great for 5 families because they're connected by a little road," explains Fale L. about the group camping options.
Sunsets and stargazing: The clear mountain air provides excellent night viewing. "I've never seen so many shooting stars before. The sites were plenty big, each had a fire pit and picnic table and were close to legit toilets," shares Stephanie R. from Bridger Bay Campground.
What you should know
Seasonal bugs: Insects can be problematic during certain times of year. "We visited in early May when the No See Ums were at their peak, so forget enjoying a campfire at dusk, or anything at dusk," warns Caroline N. about White Rock Bay.
Weather variability: Mountain conditions can change rapidly with temperature swings of 30+ degrees between day and night. Pack accordingly for all seasons.
Campground hosts: Most established campgrounds in the North Ogden area have knowledgeable staff. "The camp hosts are great!" according to Debbie P., who calls North Fork "a local fav!"
Tips for camping with families
Creek exploration: Children enjoy playing in the accessible water features. "My husband and I recently took our toddler and infant here and had a blast. They found joy in simply throwing pebbles in the creek and making mud," shares Morgan L. from Franklin Basin.
Playgrounds and beaches: Some campgrounds offer dedicated recreational areas. "There's a nature trail through the grounds, a nice playground, and a 5 min walk to the beach," notes Rara B. at Cottonwood Campground.
Group sites for reunions: Several campgrounds accommodate large family gatherings. "WE LOVE NORTH FORK CAMPGROUND!!! Have for YEARS and years! We first started camping up there before we got married or had our first childrens, so over 17 years ago now. It has always been a great family spot to camp," explains Dave D.
Tips from RVers
Site selection: RVers should consider specific campground features. "The showers are awesome lots of trees and good grass in the campground. It's the typical cram in next to your neighbor type start campground," notes Nathan B. about Hyrum State Park.
Generator restrictions: Many campgrounds near North Ogden prohibit generator use. Check specific rules before arrival.
Utility hookups: Availability varies significantly between campgrounds. "Fire pits and picnic tables included, but that's all that's included so pack your generator and fill your water," advises Jared about North Fork Park.
