Green Canyon Dispersed Campground sits at approximately 5,600 feet elevation in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, providing cooler summer temperatures compared to the Cache Valley floor. The area features limestone rock formations and scrub oak vegetation throughout the camping zones. Road access varies seasonally with closures from December 1 to April 15.
What to do
Explore canyon trails: The road through Green Canyon Dispersed Campground leads to multiple recreational areas. "Road ends a few miles in with a closed gate. There was a huge campsite back there with about 3 RVs parked," notes camper Kristen P.
Visit limestone caves: Located on the left side when entering the canyon, these natural formations attract climbers and explorers. "There is even a cave up on the left coming in and we saw some people bouldering up there," mentions Lucille W.
Cross-country skiing: Winter visitors enjoy groomed trails when the road closes. "In the winter months the road is closed, and is groomed by a local group named Nordic United. They groom it for cross country skiing several times a week and after every good storm," reports Steven E.
What campers like
Proximity to town: Located just minutes from Logan, Tony Grove Lake offers a convenient escape. "About 15 mins outside of Logan up a beautiful canyon. Headed up around 4pm on a Saturday during Memorial Day weekend so didn't have high hopes but found a spot with a fire ring almost immediately!" shares Kristen P.
Convenient amenities: Despite being dispersed camping, basic facilities exist. "Pit toilets and the entrance and a little bit up the road, very clean!" notes a camper about Green Canyon.
Cell service: Unlike more remote areas, Hyrum State Park Campground maintains connectivity. "Got in late around 2100. Plenty of spots available in the back without electric. I did get a spot right next to the lake. Has picnic table, firepit, and charcoal grill available," reports Nathan D., who also noted "Handicap accessible bathrooms and showers, plenty of hot water!"
What you should know
Weekend crowding: The area fills quickly during peak periods. "Camped with friends we had cell service via t-mobile, att&t, and visible with varying strengths. No cost, first come first serve. Bathroom is a about a mile from the coordinates. More campgrounds open in June, no service at them. Popular trail with bikers. Lots of traffic even late at night," notes CrookedSnake about Green Canyon.
Seasonal permit requirements: Smithfield Campground and other forest service campgrounds have specific operating dates. "Road to dispersed camping is closed Dec 1 - April 15. Permit fee is $10 for 3 days," explains joanna about winter conditions.
Noise levels: Many sites experience traffic and recreational noise. "Very loud, with folks driving around until the AM. Definitely a local party spot," warns pang B. about Green Canyon.
Tips for camping with families
Shaded sites: Look for tree cover during summer months. "This campground is just off the road going up Logan canyon. It is set right next to the river which helps drown out the noise from the road. The entire camp site (6 sites) is completely protected by large Willow trees," notes Preston P. about Wood Camp Campground.
Water access: Several dog friendly campgrounds near North Logan offer creek or lake access. "The spring is really nice for little kids to play with and there is a small dam at the bottom to go fishing swim and kayaking," shares Maybo H. about Spring Hollow.
Trail options: Accessible hiking for various skill levels surrounds most sites. "Great location! Across the road is the Wind Caves Trailhead. Just down the road is the Crimson Trail Head. Liked this campground because it was quiet and intimate," writes a reviewer about Guinavah - Malibu Campground.
Tips from RVers
Site selection: Many pet-welcoming campgrounds near North Logan have limited RV capacity. "It's super relaxing and very affordable! Vault toilets, no water but lots of shade. Each site has a picnic table, tent, and fire pits," notes GoWhereYouAreDraw N. about Wood Camp Campground.
Full hookup options: For those needing complete services, select established campgrounds. "New RV park & sparkling clean. Large clubhouse with all amenities & beautifully decorated! Dog park and nice laundry/shower facilities. Efficient and friendly check-in procedures," says Elizabeth S. about Aspen Grove RV Park.
Space considerations: Look for sites that accommodate your rig size. "The sites are super nice and level, and have great grass area to relax in," explains Jason S. about Traveland RV Park.
