Description

Willard Bay State Park

Willard Bay is a freshwater reservoir located 12 miles northwest of Ogden on the flood plains of the Great Salt Lake. An earthfilled dike and natural shoreline make up the 20-mile enclosures. The dike is officially named the Arthur V. Watkins Dam, for a former U.S. Senator from Utah who was essential in getting the Weber Basin Project passed through congress in 1949. The area had a need for a reservoir to store surplus water from the Ogden and Weber rivers that could later be pumped out and used on farmlands.

  • Park gates are closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily.

  • Be aware that Willard Bay is a shallow lake with fluctuating water levels, and weather conditions change rapidly creating extreme lake conditions. For boating conditions contact the park.

  • The park is frequently sprayed for mosquito abatement during the summer. Dates of spraying are posted at the park entrance.

  • The extra vehicle fee applies and can be paid at the entrance gate.

  • For all Single Sites first vehicle included in reservation and all others will need to pay extra vehicle fee at the entrance gate.

  • For double sites a reservation covers first two vehicles and all others will need to pay extra vehicle fee at the entrance gate.

  • Dayuse group sites, dayuse only. Fee pays for exclusive use of pavilion, per vehicle fee still applies and is paid at the entrance gate at the park

Disappointing

Planned on staying for an overnighter, but not for the price being asked. $60/night.

Good for a must stop now!

Electric and water. Vault toilets. Showers and running water toilets too. Not really a “site” but a circular parking lot. No space between your neighbors.

Too many Mosquitoes in August!!

So much standing water in the area makes the mosquitoes overwhelming. We have a can of Off and it isn’t enough to keep us from being eaten alive!!

Campground is large parking lot where you park in your space and there is grass behind the spot with a picnic table.

Full hookups are nice and everything is working well.

Great location, poor site

Lake and Mountain View were awesome. Wish we camped on north side though. Our site had no shade source, and was infested with bees. Upon arrival knocked a wasp nest off the electrical and our whole site was covered in honeybees feeding on red clovers. Literally hundreds. Would not recommend staying on south side at all

Noisy, but pretty

We stayed one night in early September, it was very hot, and this location has no hookups, so plan to be hot. Nice big sites, lots of wildlife all around. Nice swimming beach, fresh water. Pretty sunsets, and a nice view of mountains to the east. Sites in this campground are large. Lots of room to spread out, play games and have fun. Wild life is abundant here, birds, raccoons, deer. I loved the crickets chirping. Front gate staff was helpful, but agree with other comments, you have to pick a space before you come in.

Bad part was the freeway noise. Even with ear plugs I could not sleep. Worst: trash was everywhere. Showers in bath houses were unusually small and cryptic.

For the price, the lack of access to pick a spot, strictly enforced entry time, the trash and noise, I will look elsewhere for a place to stay.
