Big beautiful dog run area with a waterfall. This would be a great long term or a it’s a very easy on off expressway stop. High recommend

Dry Hollow Campground — Echo State Park

    Right by the lake

We are at a spot that is on a cement loop (#1) which was unlevel and it is not next to the lake but closer to the road (which is not too busy) but a view of the lake. You get a nice covered pavilion with a steel picnic table and fire ring with grate for grilling. The camp host was very sweet. Most of the sites are pull through and accommodates big rigs very well. The park managers keep it clean.

    Golden Spike RV Park

Great RV Spot Close to the Interstate

This an wonderful medium sized RV campground that is totally locally owned so you know your stay will go towards benefiting local families!  That and given its proximity to the Interstate make it the closest and easiest RV campground to get to near Brigham City/Perry.  It is a perfect stopping point if you're looking at having all the comforts of home before heading into the mountains or into the towns nearby.  Amenities include a full laundry and bathroom in addition to cable TV and Wi-Fi.  They owners are on the property year round and is a very safe place to stay.  There are 38 sites that have 30 and 50 amp hookup options in addition to water.  Definitely visit this RV campground over the nearby KOA as it supports local businesses!!!

If you want to spend time out in nature there is the nearby Bird Refuge, and Great Salt Lake.  To the north and northwest of here there lies the amazing Devils Playground and the namesake of the campground which is the Golden Spike National Historic Site in which the rail lines from the east and west met.  To the east there are numerous canyons to choose from in case the days are too sweltering hot to stay in the valleys

    Tanners Flat

Good location for exploring Wasatch Mountains and Salt Lake City

You really need to know this: No dogs are allowed because this campground is in the Salt Lake City watershed.

And this: As inviting as the water running through the campground may look, you are not allowed to swim, wade or wash in it.

One more thing: Gate closes at 10 pm although that didn't stop some partiers at the next site in from us. They partied and left around 11 or so. There was no payment tag on the post. The exit is open but has tire shredders if you enter over them.

A pleasant surprise at a Forest Service campground: 10 lbs of ice for $2! (There was also the usual bundle of firewood for $6.)

An unpleasant surprise: Old, dirty bathrooms. I've seen cleaner vault toilets elsewhere than these flush toilets.

There is no water for now (July 2018) in bathroom sinks or at spigots. The host said something about a pipe issue and water needing to be tested. That covers the amenities other than dumpsters.

What about the sites? We arrived on a Sunday morning when the host was putting up signs indictating which sites were reserved. We had 3 possible sites among 1 through 19 and grabbed #9, a pull through site with a buffer between the road in the parking/small RV area.

Sites in the other area (higher numbers) were becoming available, but that area's host said many of the sites were only appropriate for tents.

Our site #9: There are a few steps down to the picnic table, fire ring and grill plus a separate area to the left for a tent. See photos.

    General site info:

    • Some sites have a concrete pad for the picnic table, etc.

    • Many sites have an area for the tent that is away from the picnic table and concealed from the road.

Dixie Creek Campground — East Canyon State Park

A good example of how government campsites should be done

Overall, the facility is neat and clean for a campground. My visit was at the end of the 4th weekend, so some messes were expected. My campsite was in good shape upon setting up my 30ft trailer. All sites are back-in and mostly flat asphalt. A little rig leveling might be needed. The outside of the loop at Dixie C.G. is electric and water only. The inside of the loop has full hook-ups.

All sites have long, sturdy metal tables and a metal cover over a concrete pad. A fire pit was adjacent. Even with fire restrictions almost everywhere else in Utah, wood fires were permitted in the provided pit. Common area toilets are well maintained, containing flush toilets and running water. Most service buildings also contain free showers.

A one-star deduction is due to the effects of climate change, which is out of the Park's control to an extent. That said, my beef is with maintenance of the beach - a nice beach by the way. It's obvious where the historical water level use to be. Wish I could have seen the reservoir full because it may never happen again. But I digress. I think the park should rake or scrape the beach surface to remove offensive weeds and people's discards. That takes workers, budget and equipment. My guess is our State representatives lack interest to fund state parks for such mediation measures. It would greatly enhance the visual appeal and safety for families at the water's edge.

Guide to Clearfield

RV parks near Clearfield, Utah offer year-round accommodations along the Wasatch Front at elevations around 4,300 feet. The area experiences four distinct seasons with summer temperatures typically ranging from 75-95°F and winter lows often dropping below freezing. Highway access makes most campgrounds easily accessible even for larger rigs, with several properties offering mountain views or riverside settings within 30 minutes of the Clearfield area.

What to do

Riverside fishing access: At Echo Island RV Resort in Coalville, campers can enjoy fishing in the small streams that run through the property. "There is a river and walking trail just steps away from all sites," noted one visitor, while another mentioned, "Beautiful setting on two small rivers with shade."

Family-friendly amusement options: Located 25 minutes south of Clearfield in Farmington, Lagoon RV Park & Campground provides direct access to the adjacent theme park. "There is a walking path to the amusement park and another just back around the park," one camper shared. The campground closes at 10pm with an exit-only option from the park after hours.

Biking and walking trails: Many campgrounds provide access to local trail systems. Park City RV Resort offers "direct access to the bike path that leads directly into Old Town Park City and links you with lots of other trails." The Weber River trail near several Clearfield-area RV parks provides paved walking paths suitable for all abilities.

What campers like

Pool and recreation facilities: Several RV campgrounds near Clearfield feature swimming options. As one camper at Pony Express RV Resort in North Salt Lake noted, "Nice pool area. Amazing clubhouse with pool table, foosball, large TV, comfy chairs, guest kitchen area. Complimentary coffee, tea and fresh made cookies."

Mountain views: The elevated terrain provides scenic backdrops at many campgrounds. A visitor to Riverside RV Resort observed it has "a very pretty place with the mountain backdrop. Lovely sunrises and sunsets."

Peace and quiet: Despite proximity to highways, many campgrounds manage to maintain relatively quiet environments. One reviewer at Echo Island RV Resort noted, "Even though this campground was tight & busy, it was incredibly quiet and peaceful." Others mention being surprised at how quiet certain parks can be despite their location.

What you should know

Highway noise considerations: Many RV campgrounds in the area are situated near major roadways for convenience, but this can create noise issues. At Park City RV Resort, "the interstate is 20 yards from the first row of sites. It was constant traffic noise 24/7," according to one reviewer who recommended selecting lower-level sites further from the road.

Varying site spacing: Site density varies significantly between parks. At Valley View RV Resort in Layton, sites are generously sized, while at other parks like Century RV Park, one camper noted "tight cramped spots" as their main complaint despite otherwise good facilities.

Pet policies and facilities: While most RV campgrounds welcome pets, the quality of pet facilities varies. Valley View RV Resort has dedicated dog areas, but one camper noted, "There was dog mess left behind all over the doggy run and random spots all over the park."

Tips for camping with families

Pool availability varies seasonally: When planning summer trips with children, verify pool status before booking. One camper at Park City RV Resort shared, "Booked this location for the pool... would have been up in the mountains more if I knew ahead of time no pool."

Consider noise factors: Families sensitive to noise should select sites carefully. At Century RV Park in Ogden, "the exhaust from highway traffic can get a bit strong," though the reviewer noted they would still return despite this issue.

Look for recreation options: Some RV parks offer more family amenities than others. Echo Island RV Resort provides "a small pond for kids to fish in, two swimming pools and two hot tubs, very clean and modern facilities, well maintained campsites with fire pit, a cute little shop with firewood, treats, and other necessities and they have DVDs and sports equipment you can check out."

Tips from RVers

Level sites are plentiful: Most established RV campgrounds near Clearfield feature level concrete or asphalt pads. At Aspen Grove RV Park in Tremonton, campers appreciate the "long, paved, and level" sites that accommodate even larger rigs with towed vehicles.

Full hookups widely available: Nearly all RV campgrounds in the Clearfield area offer full hookup sites. The amperage options typically include both 30 and 50-amp service, though availability may vary by site. One visitor to Riverside RV Resort noted, "We had 30/50a options, WiFi, water & sewer at our site."

Reservation recommendations: During peak travel months (May-September), advance reservations are strongly recommended for weekend stays. Many parks fill completely on summer weekends, particularly those closest to attractions. Most parks offer after-hours check-in procedures for late arrivals.
