    The Retreat at Shady Creek

    Awesome RV resort in town

We normally don't do RV resorts, but this one is awesome. The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts. Big rig friendly with many different style spots to choose from. We always choose the fence line back in sites, and they always come with plenty of grass to walk the dogs. The fence backs up to residential, but that doesn't bother us. Even the back in sites are plenty spacious for a big rig and your tow vehicle and another vehicle. The park is very roomy and easy to navigate and park.

The staff are always so nice and they make late check in a breeze, which we appreciate after a long, tiring day of towing. This RV resort is the only place we've ever stayed in that allows RV washing! For full-time RVers, that's pretty huge. They also have a mail room if you need to receive a package on the road.

The resort is split up into two areas by the road, the Retreat area is more resort like and caters to short term stays, while the other half has long term stays. They both look nice and are clean and beautiful. We will continue to visit every time we pass through the area.

    A Plus RV Park

    Friendly Staff, Easy Highway Access

I have seen this place a million times living in the community nearby and never thought to check to see if they all tent campers. I was shocked to find out they do accommodate them so I passed through and checked out the grounds and wanted to let people know it exists!

There are two entries at the front of the property each easily accessed from the highway. Though they are gravel they are easy to navigate but do hold a little water in the rain. As you drive into the camp there are 4 main rows of camping, mostly in use by RVs however they do also accommodate tent campers. These sites can be picked up nightly or for more long term use so many people at this park have called this their home for a bit. Despite obvious signs of the long term dwellers, the grounds are clean and well maintained and don't look cluttered like some long term campgrounds will begin to look.

The site offers nice restrooms with showers, a bbq for general use, a rec room perfect for having your breakfast or dinner or perhaps a game of cards with friends and has connections for RVs up to 50 amp as well as a dump station.

For the tent camper sites are wide enough to be comfortable to move around and have scattered picnic tables. The tent camping sites are located on a grassy area next to the pond so they are not squished between big rigs and have a bit more privacy.

This site might not look as elaborate as some, but it more than makes up for the few things you do not have by its friendly staff and on site mechanic.

    TIPS:

    • Call in advance if looking for an RV site, they do have several spaces available but during certain times of the year they do fill up as they are centrally located to many things.

    • Check out the LBJ Grasslands which are nearby when visiting this location, a great get away for some outdoor activities.

    Lake Park Campground

    Nice Place

This place is well-maintained and a fairly nice park. Family friendly and there is a lake and playground within walking distance. The staff is courteous. We did not use any of the facilities, except dump station.

There are specific sites for 30 and 50. The middle spaces for 30 amp have no shade. For 50 amp avoid sites 59-63, 0 shade. There are no sewer hookups at the site. Only dumping station.

Reservations is done by calling the park, no online.

    Holiday Park Campground

Hard to Believe You’re Next to a Big City

When we got to Benbrook, we used the campground(CG) website instructions as we didn’t see any signage for the CG on US377 coming in from the east. We turned right onto Pearl Ranch Rd and followed it to the Holiday COE entrance about 2 miles straight down the road. Check in was easy and the guy who checked us in was very informative. We needed to fill our freshwater tank and he pointed out on the map the two dump stations with potable water. We proceeded to the dump station just inside the gate to find out there was not a potable water spigot just the usual rinse hose. We went back to the entrance and he informed us the park ranger had told him they are on well water and thus the water at the dump station was safe, even though there was a sign clearly stating it was not safe to drink. We were then told we could go to an empty camp site that had water hook-ups and fill up there, which we did. Not sure what we would have done if this had been a busy weekend with all of the water sites full. We then proceeded to pull through site 72 with 30/50 AMP. There was plenty of space for our 39’ fifth wheel and F-450 on the asphalt pad. The site had a covered cement patio with picnic table, and bbq/fire pit that we couldn't use due to a burn ban. Site 73 was the only other site in our little cul-de-sac. For the intent of this review, we toured the campground specifically looking for free standing water spigots, but didn't find any. The showers/restroom were old but in workable shape. If you want to stay where we did in sites 72-75 they were definitely electric only, contrary to what other reviews mentioned. There were water spigots at the sites but they had been capped off. Sites 76, 77,& 78 were also electric only and sat up on a hill with a slight lake view but are across the street from a neighborhood that backs up to the park. Sites 83- 93 had water and electric as well as some of the sites near the front of the park. We got 3 bars on Verizon and a whole bunch of OTA channels. We enjoyed the view of the lake and privacy at our site since we were the only ones there the whole time of our stay during the week.

    Traders Village RV Park

    Clean and big

We stayed 4 nights in site 24, PT FHU on a level concrete pad with a picnic table and plot of grass. $40/ni after Good Sam. The park is split into two sections; the side we are in is next to an airfield and the other side is by a small dog run (next time, I'll request this section bc I'm traveling with my dogs). They have a store and the laundry is clean and well priced ($1.25/wash, $0.25/12 min dry). The wifi is strong and the park is quiet. There are some long term, possibly permanent, tenants, but their sites are well kept.

    Thousand Trails Bay Landing

    Decent Park

As far as Thousand Trails this is an average park. There are some full hook up sites but many are partial hookups. You pick your own site which is nice but most of the full hook up sites are occupied by long term residents or annual site holders. The view of the lake is beautiful and the park is quiet. They do have a lot of amenities.

Sites: most were level, grass or gravel. Some have a view of the lake. I sprained my knee and ankle at this park because our site was so unlevel and the mud sunk our jacks a little. Our rig weighs 16,000lbs so the Class As should be careful. The ground was soft and I came out of the RV without thinking and twisted both. Medical services are within a half hour of the RV Park.

Each site had picnic tables and fire rings.

Cellular: we were able to work and stream video easily with T-Mobile and AT&T.

Amenities: Club House Shuffle Board Pool Hot Tub (closed while we were there) RV Storage Mini Golf Hiking Trails Laundry Bath House Playground Fishing WiFi

    The Vineyards Campground & Cabins

    Very nice

Our site had a concrete pad for our rv. Full hookups are very nice. While we were here nightly thunderstorms came in. The staff were on top of it as they drove around alerting everyone about the wind approaching. Clean laundry room and restrooms. We didn’t use the store due to corona fears and didn’t need to. Pet friendly. Quiet at night. I would absolutely stay here and recommend it to anyone. The only spring time issue is lake flooding will close it.

Guide to Newark

Located 30 miles northwest of Fort Worth, Newark's camping areas feature a mix of shaded RV sites and lakeside accommodations in the rolling Cross Timbers region. The area experiences hot summers with temperatures often exceeding 95°F and mild winters, making spring and fall the optimal camping seasons. Cell service is consistent throughout most campgrounds with AT&T and Verizon providing reliable coverage even at more remote sites.

What to do

Fishing at Eagle Mountain Lake: Access the lake directly from Lake Life RV Resort, which offers convenient proximity to fishing spots. "Great spot conveniently located walking distance from Eagle Mountain Lake. Across the street from a convenience store with food kitchen," notes Brandon C., who appreciates the easy lake access.

Wildlife viewing: The wooded areas around Riverbend RV Park provide natural habitats for local wildlife. "If you venture back further into the park, you do get the sense of being out in nature that other similar parks tend to lack," explains David K. The park's river access adds to the nature experience.

Swimming in seasonal pools: Several parks maintain swimming facilities during warmer months. At Lake Life RV Resort, Brandon C. recommends you "enjoy the swimming pool on a hot day," while at Treetops RV Resort, Jessica F. shares an unexpected winter experience: "My boys jumped in the pool even though it was 55° outside and said it was a fun experience."

What campers like

Spacious sites with shade trees: Treetops RV Resort receives consistent praise for its wooded environment. "Beautiful tree filled park. Super well maintained with a mix of pull through and back in sites. There is a ton of shade," notes Stacey. Another camper, Sybel P., confirms: "Our spot was 171 and was very well shaded."

Clean, well-maintained facilities: Campground cleanliness stands out in reviews. Kenneth P. describes Thousand Trails Bay Landing as having "many amenities and activities" with "facilities are well maintained and clean." At Treetops, Justin D. reports "Cleanest facilities ever. The bathrooms were great and as clean as I've seen."

Security features: Safety measures at certain parks provide peace of mind. Harold R. highlights that Clean Living RV Park is "completely fenced in with access via a code-controlled gate," adding that "safety and security are foremost."

What you should know

Site conditions vary seasonally: The clay soil in the area can affect site conditions. Matthew at Thousand Trails Bay Landing cautions: "Most sites are not gravel so you are setting up in grass," which can become problematic after rain.

Water quality differs between parks: Some campgrounds use well water that may require filtration. At Boyd RV Park, Josh M. reports: "Water seems to be well water and tastes like it's contaminated. (Even with a carbon filter)."

Noise considerations: Train tracks near some campgrounds can impact the camping experience. Josh M. warns about Boyd RV Park: "Train is really close to the park so expect loud horns at night."

WiFi limitations: Internet service varies widely. William notes at Thousand Trails Bay Landing: "No WiFi from the RV. You have to go to the Clubhouse to use it," while Jessica F. shares that at Treetops, "WiFi worked for my family of 5 the majority of the time for simple things. Hubby works remotely and went to Panera for stronger/faster service."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Rock Island RV Park offers unique animal encounters that children enjoy. David K. describes: "Horses, donkeys, and other assortments of animals are kept on the premises. It gives a true Texas countryside feel in the park."

Playground access: Several rv sites near Newark, Texas include dedicated play areas. Jessica F. mentions that Treetops has a "kids playground" among its amenities, making it suitable for families with young children.

Swimming options for children: Pools provide relief during hot Texas days. Brandon C. notes that Lake Life RV Resort "only has seven spots so it's very quiet and well kept. Enjoy the swimming pool on a hot day."

Picnic facilities: Many campgrounds near Newark offer outdoor dining spaces. David K. notes that at Boyd RV Park, "The small park boasts showers, a pets area, and a back area with nice country views and fields."

Tips from RVers

Level concrete pads: Cowtown RV Park receives consistent praise for its stable, level sites. Patrice S. comments: "The host bends over backwards to make your stay pleasurable, Larry escorted us to our pull through cement location and made sure we had everything we needed."

Big rig access considerations: Multiple RV camping options near Newark accommodate larger vehicles. Robert T. shares that at Cowtown, "The slips themselves were concrete and for the most part level. It took us no time to level and have our RV ready to use."

Site selection tips: When choosing rv sites near Newark, Texas, proximity to amenities matters. Kenneth P. describes his experience at Thousand Trails Bay Landing: "I tent camped and cooked out the back of the Jeep at a back-in RV site that sure seemed to be the best spot of them all. The site itself was really large with huge old trees for hammocks."

Arrival timing: For new RVers, some parks offer extra assistance. Justin D. recounts: "This was our first time ever in our first trailer ever and it was perfect. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a pull thru super."
