Sites at many parks accommodate larger vehicles, with big-rig friendly options available at multiple locations around the lake. "We were in the top part of the campground and had no issues with it being real wet. Have heard that the lower area does have pooling of water with heavy rain."

Several parks near Lavon Lake operate year-round, making the area suitable for both seasonal and full-time RV residents. While most RV sites feature gravel pads, conditions vary considerably between parks. One camper noted that "never in all my years have I been to a park with no bathrooms or showers," highlighting the importance of verifying amenities before arrival. Cell service strength fluctuates throughout the region, with some locations requiring signal boosters for reliable connectivity. Pet policies generally permit dogs at most parks, though specific restrictions may apply. Pull-through sites are limited at certain locations, requiring advance reservations during peak seasons when motorhome travelers converge on the area for lake activities.

    The Retreat at Shady Creek

    Awesome RV resort in town

We normally don't do RV resorts, but this one is awesome. The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts. Big rig friendly with many different style spots to choose from. We always choose the fence line back in sites, and they always come with plenty of grass to walk the dogs. The fence backs up to residential, but that doesn't bother us. Even the back in sites are plenty spacious for a big rig and your tow vehicle and another vehicle. The park is very roomy and easy to navigate and park.

The staff are always so nice and they make late check in a breeze, which we appreciate after a long, tiring day of towing. This RV resort is the only place we've ever stayed in that allows RV washing! For full-time RVers, that's pretty huge. They also have a mail room if you need to receive a package on the road.

The resort is split up into two areas by the road, the Retreat area is more resort like and caters to short term stays, while the other half has long term stays. They both look nice and are clean and beautiful. We will continue to visit every time we pass through the area.

    Lake Park Campground

    Nice Place

This place is well-maintained and a fairly nice park. Family friendly and there is a lake and playground within walking distance. The staff is courteous. We did not use any of the facilities, except dump station.

There are specific sites for 30 and 50. The middle spaces for 30 amp have no shade. For 50 amp avoid sites 59-63, 0 shade. There are no sewer hookups at the site. Only dumping station.

Reservations is done by calling the park, no online.

    Traders Village RV Park

    Clean and big

We stayed 4 nights in site 24, PT FHU on a level concrete pad with a picnic table and plot of grass. $40/ni after Good Sam. The park is split into two sections; the side we are in is next to an airfield and the other side is by a small dog run (next time, I'll request this section bc I'm traveling with my dogs). They have a store and the laundry is clean and well priced ($1.25/wash, $0.25/12 min dry). The wifi is strong and the park is quiet. There are some long term, possibly permanent, tenants, but their sites are well kept.

    Lake Tawakoni State Park Campground

    Nice state park

We don't stay at too many TX State Parks because of the added day use fee. We decided on this park due to its proximity to family in this area. The site was level and on a concrete pad with a parking spot right next to it. We did have a neighbor, so the space between us was fair. Our cell signal with Verizon was poor, so it made work difficult. Our site had W/E and there is a dump station. We did have a picnic table and fire ring. There are some sites that back up to a part of the lake. Noise level was pretty low. Unfortunately, we only spent 1 full day here, so we didn't really get to enjoy any of the hiking trails or do any fishing. We will definitely have to stay again in the future.

    The Vineyards Campground & Cabins

    Very nice

Our site had a concrete pad for our rv. Full hookups are very nice. While we were here nightly thunderstorms came in. The staff were on top of it as they drove around alerting everyone about the wind approaching. Clean laundry room and restrooms. We didn’t use the store due to corona fears and didn’t need to. Pet friendly. Quiet at night. I would absolutely stay here and recommend it to anyone. The only spring time issue is lake flooding will close it.

Guide to Lavon Lake

Lavon Lake in Northeast Texas offers several RV parks with full hookup accommodations for travelers seeking extended stays. The parks surrounding this 21,400-acre reservoir provide year-round access with varying amenities and site conditions. Most locations maintain gravel pads with water, electric, and sewer connections, though hookup types and reliability differ between facilities. Cellular service varies throughout the area, with some locations requiring signal boosters for consistent connectivity.

What to do

Fishing access: Lafon's RV Park provides convenient proximity to fishing spots on Lavon Lake, with one camper noting, "We needed to do some repairs to our truck after a hell storm, we need to be around the Dallas, Garland, McKinney area, and this is a perfect location, quiet, but yet close to everything we needed."

Local dining options: Several small restaurants operate near the RV parks, including barbecue establishments. As one Lafon's visitor mentioned, "There's a good little barbecue place not far, will be back when we need to go back and visit family in the garland area."

Dog-friendly activities: Many parks accommodate pets with dedicated exercise areas. A visitor to Plantation Place observed, "Quiet park with easy access to Dallas. Nice dog walking area and dog park. Full hookups."

What campers like

Convenient lake access: Patriot RV Park provides boat launch facilities, enhancing recreational opportunities. A reviewer mentioned, "They have a saltwater pool, dog park, laundry room, shower/bathrooms, trees/landscaping and access to a boat ramp."

Extended stay amenities: Long-term campers appreciate mail service and laundry facilities at select parks. One Patriot RV Park guest stated, "They have a nice laundry room and mailboxes on site. They offer short or long term living."

Internet connectivity: Some parks provide complimentary high-speed internet service, valuable for remote workers. According to a camper, "The price is the best in the area and they give free high speed internet."

What you should know

Bathroom availability varies: Not all RV parks offer shower or bathroom facilities. A Dove Hill RV Park visitor warned, "There are no restrooms, showers, picnic tables or any other amenities, not even an office."

Site leveling challenges: Some parks feature uneven terrain requiring significant leveling. One camper reported, "It appeared that the campground doesn't have any sites that approach level. It is covered solidly with rocks, not gravel and some were quite large. A few of the campers had to have their back wheels off the ground in order to get level!"

Access road conditions: Road quality varies significantly between parks, affecting arrival experience. A reviewer noted, "To get there, you travel a rough dirt road that has had some oil put on it near the few houses that are there but that stops about halfway to the site. Otherwise, it is a dusty, rough road."

Tips for camping with families

Pool access: Some facilities maintain swimming pools for summer recreation. A Lafon's RV Park visitor described the property as having "full connections as well as a laundry facility but that is about it. certainly not a vacation destination."

Site spacing considerations: Parks differ in site size and proximity to neighbors. A camper at Patriot RV Park observed, "Some sites are a bit tight. We were in the top part of the campground and had no issues with it being real wet."

Location convenience: Multiple parks offer strategic positioning for exploring the broader Dallas metroplex. According to one reviewer, "It is what it is. We needed to do some repairs to our truck after a hell storm, we need to be around the Dallas, Garland, McKinney area, and this is a perfect location, quiet, but yet close to everything we needed."

Tips from RVers

Seasonal drainage issues: Some parks experience water accumulation following heavy rainfall. A visitor to Lavon Oaks RV Park mentioned drainage problems: "Have heard that the lower area does have pooling of water with heavy rain. It does go away quickly, but should be aware of this if you have lots of outside things or a pet."

Monthly electricity costs: Long-term campers should budget for separate utility charges beyond site rental. One camper reported, "We stayed a month and the electricity was decently priced. For the month in the Texas heat, our bill was about $75."

Site access variations: Parks offer both back-in and pull-through sites, with availability fluctuating seasonally. A camper noted one park has "30/50 amp hookups, water, sewer, back-ins and pull-throughs."
